One of the ways that I am unique is that I am working to make a positive participant in my community and the world through my generosity. As a student, I am still able to be generous to others even if it’s just a smile to someone who looks lost or unnoticed. I have found that I can still give money away even though I think perhaps I may need this one day. I can give away time spent with a friend even just to listen, make them laugh and let our proverbial hair down. My generosity started in childhood when I helped my grandmother hang out the laundry and continues to the musician in the metro station playing the accordion.
Acts of kindness flow from a generous spirit and paying it forward is a way to become more generous with strangers. Being generous and extending generosity to others helps to make the world a better place, teaches others to walk in selflessness and makes people who feel invisible know that they are seen in their time of need. I highly recommend adopting a spirit of generosity and using it to share with others. There is no other feeling that can compare to knowing you have helped someone else live their best life.
In November 2020, I took my first steps to change my life in a much more radical manner. I decided to go back and get my degree in History, Law and Society. Right now, I am enrolled at the American University of Paris (AUP) for the Fall 2025 semester with a GPA of 3.7. Helping my classmates have a good time at AUP as well as learning from them why they are at AUP has been a highlight of my time here. Individually I have taken the time to help lost tourists, helped people to learn how to use the laundry machines, check-out machines, and even help the homeless with money, food or just a smile.
Daily, I present myself through my actions and paying it forward with random acts of kindness. While I am in college, I consider myself an ambassador of the United States of America to the people I meet and want them to think well of me as I walk among the diverse people I meet. Learning to interact with my fellow students who come from over one hundred nationalities, and faculty members who come from almost thirty countries, I am learning new customs, and traditions by influencing their opinion of Americans, one person at a time.
My plans are to earn my degree and use it to create a new non-profit business for myself. With anticipation, I am looking forward to learning the essentials necessary to start a new endeavor including gaining the connections to make my next business an effective success. This new business will be where I can hire others and aid them to receive a salary that reflects their worth to my company as well as offering educational opportunities to my employees and their children. Being able to establish mentorship programs and give them a fighting chance to work towards empowerment.
By pouring all my might into moving forward in excellence, I know that things will work together for my good and having come through, I am better from the experiences. My drive is that it is never too late to fulfill a dream. Delay is definitely not denial and I thank God for that.
