My name is Gavin Francis, and I am a senior, dual-credit student at San Juan College High School, pursuing a degree in Pre-Pharmacy, and I plan transfer to the University of New Mexico to join their PharmD program. Growing up, I observed many family members and friends deal with medical dilemmas such as depression, diabetes, cancer, and more. I have observed firsthand how mediation positively impacted my family, helping them live happier, healthier, and longer lives. Growing up near the Navajo Nation, I observed and grew familiar with the health-related conditions the Navajo people face. Seeing the impact that medications have on people, I knew I wanted to be the person who provides these remedies. These discoveries and observations helped me develop an interest in pharmacy, as pharmacies offer many treatments for the world’s health issues, aiming to improve people’s lives. I have always had a passion for positively changing people’s days and especially, lives, and I know how much good that medication can do. Combining these factors, I realized that pharmacy was the right career for me. When integrating my observations, discoveries, ethnicity, and teachings, my idea of pursuing pharmacy is further reinforced. By applying the knowledge I was taught to fuel my education and career goals, I can give back to my community and to anyone who needs medication assistance. If I can help improve one person’s life, I know that I can help countless others’ lives as well, giving me a great sense of self-fulfillment.
