I aim to pass high school and college and work as a software engineer. I am also passionate about basketball, a sport I've played since childhood. While I may not be a professional, my dedication and commitment to the game are evident. I also like games, volleyball, swimming, and some art. I also worked at the Deli for 5 years, starting as a worker, working my way up to become supervisor, and working on my college degree while working. I quit Deli and started working a job for my degree in Information Technology, and I am the assistant admin. My biggest challenge was not to let failure take over me. It means you accept defeat; the best way to do it is to outthink it

Hello, my name is Gavin Hill, and I am passionately pursuing a career as a software engineer. My journey into the world of programming began at the young age of 10, sparked by a deep curiosity about how technology shapes our lives. At 13, I was fortunate to have a mentor, Amanda Bundy, who became a guiding light in my academic path. She introduced me to various colleges and inspired me to explore opportunities in Information Technology.
As I navigated through high school, I engaged deeply in my studies, maintaining an impressive 3.8 GPA while also dedicating three years to basketball and two years to football. My involvement in extracurricular activities didn't stop there; I joined the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), where I learned invaluable leadership skills. In my first year, I served as the reporter, diligently updating our members on important news and events. My commitment to the organization paid off when I advanced to the state level, practicing graphic design, and eventually stepping into the role of president the following year. I took pride in organizing various events, ensuring that we not only achieved our goals but also maintained a budget that favored profitability.
In addition to my academic and leadership roles, I explored the realm of e-sports for a year, further diversifying my experiences. My work at Bee's Marketplace for three years was another transformative chapter in my life. I started in an entry-level position and, through determination and hard work, was given the opportunity to become a supervisor. This role brought new challenges, including managing stress and overcoming moments of depression. However, I refused to let these obstacles define me. With the unwavering support of my boss, Sydnie Holm, as well as my family and friends, I learned the importance of resilience and perseverance.
Though my journey has had its hurdles—such as being the only Native American student in my school and facing misunderstandings from my tribe—I chose to prioritize education over comfort. The other school I could have attended lacked a focus on learning, and I knew that pursuing a solid educational foundation was essential for my future in programming.
After graduating from high school, I was excited to discover a job opportunity that aligns perfectly with my career aspirations. I currently work as an Assistant Admin in Information Technology, where my boss is dedicated to sharing knowledge and helping me grow. Each day brings new learning experiences, reinforcing my passion for this field and preparing me for future challenges.
Now that I am in college, I continue to strive for excellence with a GPA of 3.8. My goal is to keep pushing forward and gain valuable experience through internships that will enhance my skills and prepare me for the next steps in my career. I am driven by the belief that with perseverance and commitment, I will achieve my dream of becoming a skilled software engineer.

EJS Foundation Minority Scholarship
Hello, my name is Gavin Hill, and I am currently pursuing a degree in software engineering. My journey into the world of programming began at the tender age of ten when I realized my passion for technology. At thirteen, I was fortunate enough to find a mentor, Amanda Bundy, who guided me through the labyrinth of college applications and introduced me to the expansive field of Information Technology. This ignited my desire to learn and grow.
During my high school years, I immersed myself in various activities while maintaining a commendable GPA of 3.8. I dedicated three years to playing basketball and two years to football, where I not only honed my athletic skills but also learned the values of teamwork and perseverance.
In addition to sports, I was actively involved with the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). In my freshman year, I took on the role of reporter, diligently updating our members about events and opportunities. My commitment paid off, as I later advanced to the position of president, where I organized events that not only enhanced our chapter's visibility but also focused on financial sustainability. My time in FBLA also allowed me to explore my interest in graphic design at the state level.
Additionally, I ventured into the realm of e-sports for a year, which further nurtured my love for technology and competition. A pivotal part of my work experience was my job at Bee's Marketplace, where I spent three years climbing the ranks from a regular worker to a supervisor. The transition was challenging; I faced immense stress and moments of self-doubt. Yet, under the mentorship of my boss, Sydnie Holm, I learned the power of resilience. Her constant encouragement, along with the unwavering support of my family and few close friends, pushed me to embrace these challenges rather than shy away from them.
As a Native American in a predominantly different school environment, I encountered obstacles both socially and culturally. My tribe often questioned my decision to attend a school that prioritized education over community ties; however, I remained steadfast in my commitment to my academic and career goals in programming. Choosing education was a defining moment for me, shaped by my aspirations for the future.
After graduating high school, I seized an opportunity to further my career by securing a position as an Assistant Admin in Information Technology. In this role, I am constantly learning and growing under the guidance of my supportive boss, who is dedicated to helping me navigate this exciting field. Now, as I pursue my college education with a GPA of 3.8, I remain focused on pushing my limits and gaining valuable internship experience. With determination and hard work, I am confident that each step I take brings me closer to a successful career in programming, where I can make a meaningful impact.
