I'll always remember the first time a man came up to me to applaud me for showing my support for the LGBTQ community. I had just finished marching in a parade for the town I live in for their annual heritage day parade. I had purchased a gay pride flag. I was walking around with my mother and boyfriend. Not thinking anything of it or looking for any recognition, as I am a very quiet, self-preserved person there was a man who came over to compliment me on being able to stand out for what I believed in. I wasn't waiving the flag around. I simply had it rolled up, holding my boyfriend's hand, walking around looking at the different vendors that where there after the parade. He continued to tell me how lucky I am to have a mother who supports him and isn't embarrassed to be seen out in public with him. He told me of how he also is gay and how difficult it was for him to be able to come out and stand up for whom he truly is. I felt lucky to have such a supportive family. I also felt proud that I am able to live my life without hiding from my family. I've been attending Schuylkill Technology Center South Campus for automotive collision since I was a sophomore in high school. When you think about sports you probably just think about things like baseball, basketball, football, soccer, track and field, etc. What about marching band? Marching band is extremely physical. Being that little boy that always loved looking at and learning about vehicles has made me want to be able to create that for others. I'm hoping to be able to get scholarships to help me with the expense of school so I'm not thousands of dollars in debt when I'm finished. Wanting to own my own business is also going to be a financial burden. This scholarship will help me be able to reach my life career goal.

Ever since I was little I was infatuated by automobiles. My neighbor has an antique car collection and you could find me at his house quite often. I loved watching him and learning as much as I could about each different car and truck. I always knew antique cars would be an obsession of mine to learn about as a hobby. If I wasn't at his house, there was a good chance I was sitting in front of the television watching shows like Fast n' Loud, Chasing Classic Cars, and Rust Valley Restores. Along came middle school and we started preparing for our high school plans. I went to visit our local vo-tech. I knew instantly I wanted to attend classes there. I just had to choose which program. They had diesel mechanic, automotive mechanic, and auto collision in the automotive field. I chose auto collision. I chose this because I feel like I get to see a difference that it makes appearance wise but I also need to make sure the car is going to run properly. It's not just one or the other. This will be my third year in the collision program. I've learning about the trade and working on different types of cars, some of which consisted of a race car, food truck, and my teachers personnel mustang. It's amazing how much there is to learn about vehicles. I was able to do a job shadowing this summer at a local garage and learn automotive things like oil changes, brakes, and tires. Things we don't get to see often in the collision program. Having this opportunity gave me more of an understanding of how important all aspects of the automotive industry are and how we must all work together. With the rapid change in vehicles it's important to never stop learning and to keep up-to-date with the latest technology. After graduation I plan on attending Pennsylvania College of Technology to further my education on automotive collision and automotive restoration. My goal is to own my own business one day, hopefully in Pittsburgh, since Pittsburgh is a city that has a lot of cat shows. I'd love to be able to help people have their dream car.
