My goals as a pilot are driven by a passion for aviation and flying and desire to serve others. Becoming a pilot is not just about personal dreams, it's also taking on responsibility, leadership, and service. Whether that's as a military, commercial, or corporate pilot I am not sure yet! Beyond that I hope to fly in a way to help others, possibly humanitarian missions or disaster relief aid. I hope to make my aviation goals meaningful to others and my country!

From a young age, I was captivated by the idea of flight. My grandpa, Byron Duff, a retired Navy pilot, was one of my greatest influences. Although he was a man of few words, he would often share with me pictures from his career, sparking my curiosity. I remember his photos of the F/A-18 Hornet, where he led a strike mission against Libya, and the F-104 Starfighter, the plane in which he broke the atmosphere. Although my grandpa passed away from brain cancer, his legacy lives on in my heart and through the medals and awards he left behind. His stories, though brief, continue to inspire me as I pursue my own dreams of flight.
When I turned 15, I began working toward my goal of becoming a pilot. My summers were spent under the scorching sun, with the smell of tomato plants in the air and the prickly okra plants on my skin. While working on the farm, I would often look up, watching planes and contrails streak across the sky, dreaming of the day when I would be the one flying. After several summers of hard work and saving money, I was able to begin my flying lessons. This past October, I had the thrilling experience of completing my first solo flight. The rush of adrenaline and the exhilaration of being in command of an aircraft was unlike anything I had ever felt. In just a few weeks, I will have earned my private pilot's license, marking a major milestone in my aviation journey.

Speech is crucial part to becoming a pilot. There has to be clear and effective communication to ensure safety, coordination, and efficiency. Examples of this are radio communication, aviation terminology, listening skills, non verbal cues, all that are needed in intense environment. For flight training, confident communication will help you operate safely in busy airspace during complex procedures. These are just a few reasons speech is crucial in my future goals of aviation.

“No! I don’t want to play mermaid!” I protested as the water splashed every which way. My sisters, like mermaids, plunged into the pool, their laughter echoing around us as they disappeared into the crystal-clear depths. “It’s your turn, Gavin!” they called.
“I’m not a mermaid; I’m an airplane,” I replied, grinning. “And I can fly.” Little did I know that this playful declaration would foreshadow my future passions and dreams.

Aviation is not my only goal, I was excited to find out that I can also get a minor in UAS. I do not have a lot of experience in this field yet, but ready for the next step in college to pursue these goals!
