I know that there are tons of deserving students out there, but I believe I am also deserving. I live with my single mom and my sister. My mom is a teacher and we barely make it from month to month. I would like to get a scholarship so I can make my dreams come true. I know my mom could take out more loans to pay for my education, but she is still paying off her own. My mom has always made sure we had everything we needed, even during the past year when we lost everything. Last fall, we had a house fire. We lost everything, including our beloved pets, but this showed me that I had not lost what is most important and that is my family. It showed me how resilient I am. I’m not going to say it wasn’t hard. We were homeless for a while, but we made it through. We did more than make it through, we took care of each other. Despite also getting Covid during this time, I still passed my classes. My GPA may not be as high as others, but I think it is a testament to my resiliency. I learned that I am strong and I am determined to follow my dreams.

WinnerGenerational wealth means the wealth that one obtains during each generation. We are always expected to make our way for ourselves. My grandparents helped my mom get into college, but after that point, she was expected to make it on her own. I feel like I must also do it for myself.
I am planning on going to the University of Northwestern Ohio in the fall. I want to study as an automotive technician. More precisely, I want to study to be a mechanic. I know it is not the most glamorous of jobs, but it is something that interests me deeply.
Over the years, my mom and I have talked a lot about my future. She keeps reminding me that wealth is more than just money. I must also be fulfilled by my choice of career. Even though she has never made a fortune as a teacher, she is very fulfilled in her life and has taught me to seek out a career that will do the same for me.
As a mechanic, I will be able to find work. The industry is always growing, as well as I keep up with the times, such as learning about hybrid and electric engines. I will keep up with my industry so that I can always be a leader in my field. I will continue to work hard and build a name for myself. I will work with integrity. Those who work with me will know that they can count on me to get the work done and for an honest price.
It is also a goal for me to help in my community. Mechanics often get a bad name because they do a job that most don't understand. A lot of people, especially women, get overcharged for mechanic services. My mom has talked about this a lot over the years. I want to provide quality services for my community, as well as donate services for those who need them to get back on their feet.
Overall, it is important to me to start my career in as little debt as possible. The college I have chosen is out of state, so the tuition is very expensive for me. This, along with room and board, will cost close to $50,000 by the time I graduate. In order to help me reach my goals with as little debt as possible, I need to try to get as many grants and/or scholarships as I can. My mother can help me take out other loans, but she is still paying off her own student loans after 20 years of graduating from college. As a single mother, she doesn't have much discretionary income to put toward those payments. Going into debt this early in my career would make it hard for me to generate any generational wealth for myself as I will barely be making it in my field for quite a while until I repay my loans. Therefore, please consider me for your scholarship. It would mean the world to me.

Mental health issues have impacted everyone in my life. Both my parents battle anxiety and depression. My grandmother is bipolar. Most importantly, I have also battled with anxiety and depression.
Ever since I was a small child, I have fought with anxiety. I was afraid to go on play dates without my mom coming along. She sat next to me at birthday parties. She helped me overcome my anxiety over the years by showing me that she would always be there for me. My mom is a single mom and teacher and we barely make it from month to month. She has taught me the importance of education and how it can open doors for me. Even though she has a lot of debt from her multiple degrees, she doesn't regret her education. It has helped her to find a career that is fulfilling and meaningful. Now I want the same for myself. I would love this scholarship so I could make my dreams come true.
My mom has always made sure we had everything we needed, even during the past year when we lost everything. Last fall, we had a house fire. We lost everything, including our beloved pets. This showed me that I had not lost what is most important and that is my family. It showed me how resilient I am. I’m not going to say it wasn’t hard. We were homeless for a while, and ended up living with strangers for a while. But we made it through despite the toll that it took on all of our mental health. Even though she did a really good job hiding it, my mom opened up about the depression she went through during this time. However, we did more than make it through, we took care of each other.
After the fire, it took us a while to find another place to rent. It took a while, but we moved into a new apartment with donations of furniture and clothing. We were just getting back on our feet, but then we all got Covid. What a nightmare! Despite also getting Covid during this time, I still passed my classes. My GPA may not be as high as others, but I think it is a testament to my resiliency. I learned that I am strong and I am determined to follow my dreams. This includes getting certified as an auto mechanic.
I have been struggling during my senior year with my own mental health. I've been really depressed, but I keep going. My closest friends who got me through my house fire are all going in different directions. I can't fathom my life without them, but I know they will only be a phone call away. I'm most overwhelmed with how I'm going to pay for college. I know mechanics don't make millions. However, I do know that this is the field for me.
I love working with cars and can't wait to get started. I want to go to the University of Northwestern Ohio because it has one of the best programs for future mechanics, but it is extremely expensive. I'll be out of state, so I will also have to pay room and board. I know my mom could take out more loans to pay for my education, but she is still paying off her own. Please help me to achieve my goals without going so far into debt that I will never get myself out. Thank you for your time and your consideration.
