Trades Make the World Go 'Round
I am Garret Mikel Willmarth and I plan to be an electrician. I started my journey to become an electrician in my senior year of high school. I decided to explore this career path after I looked up the highest-paying trade job in math class and electrician came up as the top result. Since then, I have been fascinated by the world of wires and lights. I didn't know a whole lot about electricity before I got to trade school except how to wire a simple light switch. Now I am well on my way to being able to wire up a whole house on my own. I love learning new ways of wiring and hooking up lights. I have always loved to make people smile and brighten up their day and with my current job, I can do it literally. One of my happiest day at work was when my journeyman Kyle and I were sent out to a metalworking shop to replace their old light fixtures. We took down some old rusty fluorescent fixtures and replaced them with some small LED lights and you would not believe the difference it made. The smile it brought to the shop owner was amazing. I hope to continue to make people's day by brightening up their lives and making sure they have the power they need. I have a long way to go but I plan to graduate from MSUN with an associate degree in Electrical technology and use that education to help me get my journeyman license. After that, I will be making my way to becoming a master electrician and opening up my own electrical contracting company. With the knowledge I gain, I will brighten up the world, literally. Currently, I see myself as a good residential electrician and plan to make the homes people live in a little more comfortable and safer with my wiring. Maybe this next year of college will show me how to better work on commercial jobs and then I can help build the foundations of companies of the future, or at least their electrical systems. My positive impact on the world will be light and power. It even shocked me when I discovered what I wanted to do with my life. Who knew it would revolve around wires, lights and motors. I have a lot of time before I'm working on a job by myself but till then I'm studying up on the electric code. Thank you for your time.

As I said earlier, I chose this career path originally because I thought I would earn good money in this field, and from what I hear I will if I work hard. Now I am working in this career because I am truly fascinated by electrical systems and how they work. I am almost always looking at conduits and outlets I see as I'm walking around town, at school, and in my own family members' homes. I will be successful at this trade because I am determined to be successful. I have set it in my mind that I will be a master electrician and I am working towards that goal every day. I am a hard worker and hate it when I make mistakes. When I do make mistakes, I do all I can to make sure I don't repeat them. I will be successful because it's one of my dreams and I truly want to achieve this in my life. A successful life for me is a place I can call home, hopefully, a nice plot of land with a huge shop. A successful life is one where I can look back and say I made something out of my life. That's why I love the trades because I literally build my legacy. A successful life is one that makes me happy, and so far being an electrician makes me happy. Thank you for your time.

Getting this scholarship will help me move forward with getting my associate's degree. Currently, I am paying for college with several school scholarships, loans, and savings. I still am working through the school year with the time I have but next year I will have a lot less time to work. This scholarship will help me be able to focus more on my education and learning about electrical systems while I am in school. If need be, I will try and find a job willing to work around my schedule but any funds would be greatly appreciated and used with a goal in mind of brightening up the world.
