An obstacle that I had to overcome was being in a broken home. My mom and dad were never married but they separated when I was only 3 years old. They were high school sweethearts. They were together for a long time.
Growing up it was really hard. When I was really little, I couldn't understand why my parents couldn't live together as I got older things got easier. Having to juggle all the holidays going between my moms and dads was hard because I would miss out on seeing some family. My mom started doing holidays earlier so that way I wouldn't miss seeing anyone. As I got to the age of staying the night and hanging out with my friends it became another challenge because I would want to stay with friend a lot but I also I needed to see my family. It was always a tough decision on where to stay. I wasn't given specific days of having to be at one parent's house or the other. My parents let me pick and choose when I want to stay with them. I was always afraid that i would hurt one of my parents' feelings if I wanted to stay if one more day that week than the other. There were always things coming up where things would be switched so we didn't stick to certain times or day.
I am now 17 and things are much easier I have learned to overcome my parents not being together by learning I could still see them both and be with them as much as I wanted, and they both love me just the same and they both would do absolutely anything for me.
As I get older, I hope that I can make a positive impact on my local community by being a part of our county sports. we are a small community where there is not a lot for the kids to do. So, our county has a sports program and a lot of kids paly the different county sports. They are always seeking volunteers, so hopefully after I get out of school I can volunteer and help with the children of our future to learn everything that comes with playing sports, like good sportsmanship, communication, responsibility, working hard, not giving up and so much more.
I would also like to start something like a big brothers/ big sisters club. The kids in my community could use good role models in their lives
