Community Health Ambassador Scholarship for Nursing Students
I want to pursue a degree in nursing because I truly believe it is one of the most impactful and meaningful careers anyone can choose. Ever since I was young, I’ve been drawn to helping people, especially in moments of vulnerability. There is something powerful about being the person who can bring comfort, healing, and strength to someone when they are at their lowest. Nursing gives me the opportunity to do just that, not only as a profession, but as a purpose. My passion for nursing is rooted in both personal experience and a desire to make a difference. Growing up in a Haitian household, I witnessed how cultural and language barriers often affected how people in my community received healthcare. Sometimes there was confusion, a lack of trust, or just a general fear of going to the doctor. I realized early on that representation matters, that having someone who understands your background and speaks your language can make all the difference in how care is delivered and received. That’s when I knew I wanted to be that kind of person for others, someone they can trust and turn to, someone who not only understands medicine but also understands them. I also admire the strength and versatility of nurses. They are often the ones who spend the most time with patients, the ones who notice small changes, listen to fears, answer hard questions, and provide comfort when it’s needed most. They are not only caregivers, but educators, advocates, and leaders. I want to be part of that. I want to be someone who helps people not only recover from illness, but also live healthier, more informed lives. My long-term goal is to work as a registered nurse in underserved communities where access to quality healthcare is limited. I also hope to eventually specialize, possibly in pediatric or emergency nursing so I can continue to grow and provide expert care to those who need it most. As a nurse, I plan to contribute to my community in many ways. I want to educate people on preventive care, nutrition, and mental health. I want to help families feel supported during tough times, and make sure no one ever feels overlooked or misunderstood. I believe health education and trust are the foundation of stronger, healthier communities, and I hope to be a bridge between the healthcare system and the people it serves. Nursing is not just a career to me, it’s a calling. It’s about being there for others in their most vulnerable moments and using my knowledge, compassion, and determination to lift them up. Earning my degree in nursing will allow me to fulfill that calling and give back to the people and communities who helped shape who I am. This scholarship would be a critical step toward that goal, and I am fully committed to using this opportunity to make a positive, lasting impact on the world around me.
DeJean Legacy Scholarship For Haitian American Students
Growing up with Haitian heritage has shaped me into the person I am today. My culture is rich in resilience, pride, and perseverance, and those values have guided me throughout my life. I’ve learned from my family’s stories of struggle, survival, and strength, that success is never handed to you. It’s earned through hard work, sacrifice, and staying rooted in your identity. These lessons have influenced how I approach my education and the goals I’ve set for my future. In Haitian culture, education is viewed as the most powerful tool for change. I was raised to believe that pursuing knowledge is not just about personal growth, but also about uplifting your community. That mindset has fueled my commitment to academic excellence. I take my studies seriously because I know that by achieving my goals, I can not only break barriers for myself but also help create opportunities for others who come from backgrounds like mine. My career goal is to work in a field that allows me to combine leadership with service whether that’s through healthcare, education, or public service. I want to be someone who makes a real difference, not just for myself, but for the next generation. My community has always played a major role in shaping my path. I’ve been involved in various service projects, whether it was volunteering at local food drives, helping organize cultural events, or tutoring younger students. One of my most meaningful experiences was helping lead a back-to-school supply drive for underserved kids in my neighborhood. Seeing the smiles on their faces reminded me of why giving back matters. It’s not about recognition, it’s about making someone else’s life a little bit easier, even if just for a moment. Looking ahead, I plan to continue being active in my community by mentoring youth, supporting immigrant families, and advocating for equal access to education and resources. I want to be a voice for those who are often unheard and provide the kind of support I was fortunate to receive. I believe that real change starts at the local level, with people who care enough to take action. Being Haitian means being part of something bigger than myself. It’s carrying a legacy of courage, faith, and community. It’s knowing that even in the face of hardship, we don’t give up, we rise. That spirit is what drives me to reach higher, dream bigger, and give back with everything I’ve got. This scholarship would help me continue that journey. It’s not just about funding my education, it’s about investing in someone who’s determined to pay it forward, to represent their culture with pride, and to leave a lasting impact.
