Choosing a career in nursing is most often perceived to be solely because of a drive to help others. While this certainly did play a role in my decision to become a nurse, my choice to become a nurse is based on a combination of personal experience, professional interests, and emotional motivations. I chose nursing not only to take care of people, but because it aligns with my values, allows me to learn and grow, and satisfies my personal goals. Since I was a child, I have had a fascination with the human body and science behind health and disease. Becoming a nurse helps me to combine my love for science with real-life healthcare. Nursing is a blend of knowledge, critical thinking, and interacting with patients, which allows for me to be engaged intellectually while also making a difference in people's lives. Another huge factor in my decision was my own experiences with healthcare. When a family member of mine was very ill in the hospital I got to see first-hand how big of a difference nurses made. They didn't just treat my family member; they also supported us emotionally and advocated for my family. This showed me that nursing is bigger than just giving medication to patients-it's also about being there for the patients and their families. This experience made me want to be apart of a profession that embodies these qualities. The personal fullfilment I get from helping people through these challenging periods in their lives is a big reason why I chose nursing. This job demands the strength and understanding to care for patients' mental and emotional well-being, in addition to their physical health. Through going to clinicals in nursing school, I've found deep fulfillment in being there for people during tough times and also exciting moments. This combined with the intellectual engagement of nursing, shows me that this career will offer me a sense of fulfillment and purpose beyond any other job I could have. As a woman entering the healthcare field, I also hope to make a meangingful impact by advocating for patients and addressing issues like healthcare inequality. I plan to use my voice to support and advocate for not only my patients but also other women in the healthcare field. This moment occurred for me during my second semester of nursing school, and at the time it felt impossible to overcome, but it ultimately shaped my path towards becoming a pediatric nurse. In my second semester of nursing school, I was enrolled in a notably difficult course for me, which was the medical-surgical nursing course. I had already been briefed by previous students that this class was going to be one of the most difficult of all. As someone who strives for academic excellence, the thought of this course being a struggle for me was unsettling. However, the real challenge was when my beloved grandmother, whom I lived with, passed away in the first week of school. The timing was horrible, as I was already struggling to keep up with the painstaking workload of this course. Despite my grief, I was determined to not let this stear me away from the path to achieving my goals. My grandmother was my biggest cheerleader and was so excited to see me graduate from nursing school. She was very involved in my decision to enter the nursing field because she saw my love for helping others. So, I decided that I was going to achieve this goal, not just for myself but also for her. I knew that for me to succeed, I needed to muster up all the strength I could. I began by developing a strict study schedule, incorporating shorter, more frequent study sessions to be able to help my mother with the funeral planning and packing up my grandmother's things. The road was definitely not easy. There were days that I was barely able to sit through a lecture without tearing up, but I reminded myself of my end goal. I adopted a mindset that embraced endurance and accepted that this setback was a part of my journey. Eventually, my efforts paid off. I not only passed the course with an excellent grade but also gained a keen understanding of the material that would be the foundation of my nursing career. This experience with overcoming this tremendous obstacle through sheer determination has positively influenced my approach to challenges in my professional and personal life. As I transition into the role of a pediatric nurse, I will utilize the qualities of strength and determination that I developed during this time. Pediatric nursing often requires taking care of seriously ill or injured children in situations that not only require technical skill but also emotional resilience. In the pediatric setting, I will use my strength to remain composed and focused. I am determined to provide my patients with the highest standard of care. I will advocate for my patients and continue to seek knowledge and improvement. I will approach pediatric nursing with the same commitment to make a positive difference in the lives of my patients and their families. My idea for a new Love Island challenge would be called the "Ex Factor." This challenge would begin with all of the girls and guys standing up in a line. There would be a giant card for each of the contestants that lists something that has happened with an Ex-girlfriend/boyfriend of theirs. The girls go first and reveal one card at a time and have to match the card to the guy they think it belongs to. Next, the guys do the same and have to try to match the card to who they think it belongs to. The girls and guys can work together to decide who the card belongs to. The team that matches the most cards correctly to the players wins the game. The prize for the team that matches the most cards correctly is a one-on-one chat with the ex-girlfriend/boyfriends of the players of the opposite team. I think this would be a great challenge because when you are secluded from the outside world like you are on Love Island, you aren't able to really get an idea of how this person has acted with the opposite sex in the real world. I think this challenge would bring great insight about their partner to the players.
