In 2021, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, IBS, and Iron Deficiency Anemia. Being forced to do the extensive research to understand my new bodily needs led me to falling in love with the science behind real nutrition, having a balanced diet, and learning what is best for your body.
My mom raised my brothers and I on a clean diet consisting of nuts, grains, fruits, and vegetables when we were younger. As we grew older and filtered into public school, she could no longer hide us from processed foods. Our classmates came to school eating Cheez-itz, Goldfish, Oreos, Doritos, and more. Being curious kids, led us to asking our mom for these foods in the grocery store. As we got older, cooking on our own worsened the quality of meals due to our choices. Before we knew it, our kitchen had things like instant ramen noodles and Takis.
Little did we know, these foods were destroying our guts, mind, and body. It got worse over quarantine; I remember having instant noodles once a day and that put me in the predicament of developing Crohn’s disease. After the hundreds of hours spent in the hospital, I still consider Crohn’s disease a blessing for raising my awareness on how important your diet and food choices are. I have been able to completely turn around my lifestyle and affect the others around me to think twice about what is on their plate as well.
It has been three years of following my passion for nutrition and I am proud to say I am now going to Life University to get my bachelor’s degree in Dietetics/ Nutrition in 2027. I hope to continue to spread love to others through sharing the importance of what we put in our bodies. When treating patients, I plan on getting to know them through their daily activities, physical hobbies, childhood history, family health history, etc. This will help me identify what their body needs. Another aspect I believe is that variety is the key to great health, so I will take pride in helping my patients with assisted meal planning to make sure their bodies are getting the most nutrients possible. But most importantly, I will share my knowledge on how taking these steps can and will change their lives. Once you hop on the train to outstanding health, your family and friends start to notice. I believe this is great knowledge to spread, and we as a society should open our eyes to the lies within most food industries we have grown up with. Instead of taking something to treat our sickness, we can prevent any sickness from developing by putting our health first.
