The impact I want to make is deeply personal, rooted in the lived experiences of my family and the community that raised me. Growing up, I watched my mother work endlessly to provide for me, sacrificing her own comfort and safety so that I would have every opportunity to succeed. My father, who grew up in poverty, learned a trade to make ends meet and supported me however he could. Neither of my parents had the chance to attend college, yet they instilled in me a profound work ethic and a commitment to uplifting others. They are my ultimate inspiration. Because of their sacrifices, I am driven not just to build a better life for myself, but to use my education to transform healthcare for women in underserved communities. My vision is to become an OB/GYN dedicated to dismantling maternal health disparities, particularly for Black women who face disproportionately high rates of maternal mortality and inadequate reproductive care. At seventeen, I am completing my school’s nursing program and preparing to sit for my LPN boards. Earning a nursing credential at a young age gave me direct, hands-on clinical experience, showing me firsthand how critical empathy, clear communication, and representation are at the bedside. However, to create systemic change, I need to take my education further. Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology will lay the rigorous scientific foundation required for medical school, giving me the clinical expertise and authority to serve on the front lines of women's health. I am determined to use my education to give back to my community across several critical avenues. As a Black female physician, I will provide culturally competent care by offering a safe, trusted environment where patients feel heard, respected, and thoroughly advocated for during their most vulnerable healthcare moments. Furthermore, coming from a family without a college background, I know how difficult it can be to navigate the path to higher education. I plan to establish mentorship networks for young, aspiring healthcare professionals from low-income and minority backgrounds, showing them that their dreams are achievable. Beyond individual patient care, I intend to leverage my clinical research and community outreach to influence public health initiatives, ensuring that quality reproductive and maternal care is accessible regardless of socioeconomic status or zip code. Shaping a better future means turning generational sacrifice into generational progress. By combining my practical nursing background with a medical degree, I am determined to save lives, empower women, and serve as proof to my community that no barrier is insurmountable. My parents walked so I could fly, and through my career as an OB/GYN, I will make sure I lift others up with me.
