Growing up, sports always surrounded me—but I was never the one playing them. I wasn’t the star athlete, but I was the one on the sidelines, caring for my friends and teammates. I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field, but I also wanted to remain close to sports. Athletic training became the perfect match. I realized early on that I was good at helping people recover, stay safe, and return to doing what they love. My passion for athletic training started when my high school best friend, a basketball player, would sprain her ankle almost every season. I was just a teenager, but I found myself helping her tape her ankle, assisting with her rehab, and encouraging her to push through so she could continue being a star player. She eventually made it to play in college. One day, she had a severe asthma attack, and I was the one who stayed calm, got her to EMS, and made sure she received her inhaler in time. That experience showed me that this profession wasn’t just something I liked—it was a calling. Now, I’m pursuing my master’s degree in athletic training and preparing for the Board of Certification exam. My goal is to work at the professional level—whether in football, softball, or another sport. My ultimate dream is to open a performance and rehab clinic where professional athletes and high school athletes can train and recover side-by-side. I believe having those two groups in the same space can create a strong system of mentorship, motivation, and growth—for both young and seasoned athletes. There’s always more to learn, no matter your age or level. I’ve worked hard to impact my community by spreading awareness of the athletic training profession. From my high school clinicals to graduate school, I’ve always tried to educate others about what we do. This past summer, I had the opportunity to attend a professional conference, and I was honored to be the only scholarship recipient representing athletic training. That recognition gave me an even bigger platform to advocate for the field I’m so passionate about. Whether it was explaining recovery techniques to high school athletes or being the only one talking about athletic training while working in fast food, I’ve stayed committed to raising awareness and encouraging others to value what we do. This scholarship would tremendously help me stay focused on my studies and continue growing as a professional. It would give me the chance to attend more conferences, deepen my knowledge, and prepare fully for my board exam—without the added stress of working long hours outside of my clinicals. With your support, I’ll be able to take the next step toward becoming the kind of athletic trainer who truly makes a difference in the lives of every athlete I work with.
