Hodge Legacy Community Service Scholarship
Community service has always been important to me because it allows me to help others while also learning more about myself and the world around me. Being involved in my community has shown me that even small efforts can make a real difference, especially when people come together with the same goal of helping others. One of my main experiences with community service has been through youth leadership and community organizations where I’ve had the opportunity to work with other young people to support local initiatives. Being involved showed me how much work goes on behind the scenes to make sure communities function and how important it is for young voices to be included. I learned how to communicate with others, speak up respectfully, and take responsibility for my actions. These experiences helped me become more confident and aware of issues that affect people in my community, especially youth and families.I also work as a restaurant server, which has taught me a lot about service in a different way. Every day, I interact with people from all kinds of backgrounds, and that has helped me develop patience, empathy, and strong communication skills. Sometimes customers are having a great day, and sometimes they aren’t, but I’ve learned that kindness and understanding can go a long way. Even though it’s a job, it’s still a form of service because it reminds me how important it is to treat people with respect and care.Giving back and paying things forward matters to me because I know I didn’t get to where I am on my own. There have been people who supported me, guided me, and believed in me, even when they didn’t have to. Community service is my way of returning that support and making sure others feel seen and valued too. When you help someone, you never know how much of an impact you’re making on their life, and that motivates me to continue giving back.Through community service, I’ve grown as a person. I’ve learned leadership skills, accountability, and the importance of showing up consistently.
It taught me that change doesn’t always come from big gestures, but from being reliable and willing to help whenever possible. These experiences have influenced my future goals and strengthened my desire to pursue a career where I can continue serving others. Overall, community service has helped shape my values and the way I approach life. Giving back isn’t just something I do, it’s something I believe in. Paying things forward helps create stronger communities, and I hope to continue making a positive impact wherever I go.
