Choosing cosmetology wasn't just about finding a career for me it was about finding something that truly makes me happy while allowing me to make other people happy too. Ever since I was younger, I have always been interested in hair, beauty, and the way a person's appearance can affect how they feel about themselves. I loved watching hair transformations and seeing how something as simple as a haircut, color, or style could completely change someone's confidence. As I got older, I realized that cosmetology was more than just doing hair. It's about connecting with people, helping them feel beautiful, and giving them a reason to smile. That is what made me decide to pursue this trade. One of the biggest reasons I am passionate about cosmetology is because my goal in life has always been to make people happy. There is something incredibly rewarding about knowing that I can make a positive difference in someone's day. Everyone goes through stressful times, and for many people, getting their hair done is one of the few moments they get to relax and focus on themselves. I want to create an environment where my clients feel comfortable, listened to, and cared for. I want them to leave my chair not only loving their hair but also feeling more confident, refreshed, and excited about themselves.I have always believed that confidence can change the way a person carries themselves. When someone feels good about the way they look, it often shows in their attitude, their smile, and the way they interact with others. I think that's one of the most powerful parts of being a cosmetologist. While I may be styling hair on the outside, I also have the opportunity to help someone feel better on the inside. Knowing that I can play even a small role in boosting someone's self esteem is what makes this career so meaningful to me. Another reason I chose this path is because I enjoy learning and challenging myself. The beauty industry is always changing with new techniques, products, and trends. I love that there will always be something new to learn, whether it's mastering a new haircut, learning a coloring technique, or improving my customer service skills. I want to continue growing throughout my career so I can always provide the best experience possible for my clients. As I continue my education in cosmetology, I know there will be challenges, but I am excited to keep improving and building my skills. My dream is to become a hairstylist who people can trust and look forward to seeing. I want every client who sits in my chair to know they are valued and appreciated. More than anything, I want them to leave feeling happier than when they walked in. For me, cosmetology is about much more than hair. It is about creativity, kindness, confidence, and making meaningful connections with people. My passion is making others happy, and I truly believe this career gives me the opportunity to do that every single day. Knowing that my work can brighten someone's day, help them feel confident, and make them smile is the reason I am so excited to pursue a future in cosmetology.

The trade I am pursuing is cosmetology, and my passion for it runs deep. Ever since I was young, I found joy in doing hair and makeup for family and friends not just to help them look good, but because of how it made them feel. I noticed early on how someone’s mood could completely shift just from seeing themselves in a new light. I fell in love with that feeling the moment someone looks in the mirror and smiles, truly seeing their own beauty. That’s what cosmetology is to me: not just a service, but a chance to build people up, boost their confidence, and help them feel seen. My biggest inspiration in this trade is Jessica, the strongest woman I know. She’s a single mother of three and a successful stylist who built her career from the ground up. Despite all the challenges life threw at her, she never gave up. She worked long hours, cared for her kids, and still found time to make each client feel like the most important person in the room. Watching her strength, passion, and love for her craft showed me what kind of stylist and person I want to be. Jessica taught me that this trade isn’t just about beauty on the outside it’s about healing and empowerment from the inside out. After I complete my trade education and earn my cosmetology license, I plan to work in a salon where I can continue learning from experienced professionals and build strong relationships with clients. My long-term goal is to open my own salon a space that’s inclusive, welcoming, and rooted in community. I want it to be more than just a business. I want it to be a place where people come to feel safe, accepted, and beautiful. I also dream of mentoring other young stylists, especially those who might not have had a lot of support growing up. I want to be the kind of role model Jessica was for me. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was balancing school and work while dealing with financial hardship. There were times when I questioned whether I could afford to stay in school or keep going at all. I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and scared of falling behind. But I kept showing up every day because I believed in my future. I reached out for help when I needed it, picked up extra hours when I could, and reminded myself of my “why.” I thought about the people I want to help, the salon I dream of building, and the version of myself I’m working toward. That mindset carried me through. That experience taught me resilience and gave me a deeper appreciation for every opportunity I have. Cosmetology isn’t just my passion it’s my path forward. It’s how I plan to make a difference in people’s lives, just like others have made a difference in mine.

The trade I’m passionate about pursuing is cosmetology. It’s more than just a career path to me it’s a calling. I’ve always been drawn to the world of beauty, not just because of the creativity involved, but because of the way it can completely change how someone feels about themselves. When done with care, cosmetology is a form of healing. It builds confidence, restores self-worth, and helps people see themselves in a whole new light. My inspiration for pursuing this trade is Jessica the strongest woman I know. She’s not only a talented and successful stylist, but also a single mother of three children. I’ve watched her overcome incredible obstacles with grace, strength, and an unshakable determination to create a better life for her family. She didn’t come from privilege or have an easy start. She built her business from the ground up, often juggling long days at the salon with late nights helping her kids with homework and making sure they had what they needed. Despite the pressures and the exhaustion, Jessica never gave up. She poured her heart into her work, and over time, she turned her dream into reality. Her salon isn’t just a place to get your hair done it’s a safe, welcoming space where clients feel seen, heard, and cared for. People walk in feeling unsure or weighed down by life, and they walk out smiling, standing taller, and feeling beautiful. That kind of transformation is powerful. Jessica showed me that cosmetology isn’t just about appearance it’s about connection. Watching her inspired me to believe in myself, even when I faced my own doubts. If she could do it, then so could I. She taught me that strength isn’t about never struggling it’s about pushing through the struggle and rising anyway. Because of her, I want to follow in her footsteps and build a meaningful career in cosmetology. My goal is to complete my education, become a licensed stylist, and eventually open a salon that reflects the same values Jessica embodies: compassion, confidence, and community. I want to create a space where people feel empowered, regardless of who they are or what they’ve been through. Cosmetology gives me purpose. It allows me to express myself, connect with others, and help people feel like the best version of themselves. It’s not just about beauty it’s about making people feel like they matter. Jessica didn’t just inspire me she changed my life. I hope that through this trade, I can do the same for others.

Cosmetology has always felt like home to me. From the time I was a little girl, I found joy in doing hair and makeup for my friends and family not for attention, but because I loved seeing them smile afterward. Even then, I could see how something as simple as a new hairstyle or a touch of color could completely change the way someone felt about themselves. It wasn’t just about beauty. It was about confidence, self-worth, and feeling seen. As I got older, I realized that I wanted to turn that joy into a career. I want to become a licensed cosmetologist who not only provides excellent services but also makes every client feel safe, accepted, and uplifted. Whether someone is preparing for a job interview, a wedding, or just trying to feel better after a rough day, I want to be the person who helps them look in the mirror and feel proud of what they see. My long-term goal is to open my own salon one that is inclusive, positive, and rooted in community. I want it to be a space where people come not just to look good but to feel supported and inspired. I also hope to mentor other aspiring cosmetologists, especially those who might not have had many opportunities or support growing up. I know what it feels like to have a dream but worry about whether it’s possible. That’s why this scholarship means so much to me. Cosmetology school is a big financial commitment, and I’ve been working hard to cover my tuition and supplies. But the costs can be overwhelming. Receiving this scholarship would relieve a huge part of that stress and allow me to focus more fully on learning and growing. It would also remind me that I’m not alone that someone believes in my journey and is willing to invest in my future. This isn’t just a job for me it’s a purpose. I’m passionate about helping people feel beautiful, not just on the outside, but from within. With this scholarship, I’ll be one step closer to turning that passion into a lifelong career that lifts others up, just like I was lifted.
    Track to the Trades
Cosmetology has always been more than just a career path for me it’s a calling. Ever since I was a child, I’ve found comfort and joy in doing hair, experimenting with makeup, and learning about skincare. It started with playing “salon” in my room, braiding my cousins’ hair, and watching beauty tutorials late into the night. But as I got older, I realized that cosmetology isn’t just about looking good it’s about helping people feel good, and that’s what truly drew me in. What inspires me most about this field is the transformation not just on the outside, but on the inside. I’ve seen firsthand how something as simple as a new hairstyle or a fresh face of makeup can completely change someone’s mood, posture, and confidence. There’s something so powerful about giving someone the chance to feel seen and beautiful, especially when they might not feel that way in their everyday life. I’ve felt that impact myself. During some of my hardest times, doing my hair or makeup helped me feel in control, even if just for a moment. That’s when I knew this was what I wanted to dedicate my life to not just the techniques, but the healing that comes with it. My dream is to become a licensed cosmetologist who is not only technically skilled but deeply connected to the people I serve. I want to be someone my clients can trust not just to do their hair, but to listen, uplift, and empower them. I believe that everyone deserves to feel confident in their skin, and I want to create that space for them. In the short term, I’m working hard to complete my cosmetology program and earn my license. I’m fully committed to learning as much as I can from hairstyling and coloring to skincare and nail care. I want to be well-rounded and capable of meeting my clients' unique needs. Long term, I dream of opening my own salon a place that’s inclusive, welcoming, and full of good energy. I want it to be more than a salon; I want it to be a safe haven for people of all backgrounds to feel beautiful, respected, and loved. And one day, I hope to mentor other young people who, like me, have big dreams but need someone to believe in them. This scholarship would mean the world to me. Cosmetology school is expensive not just tuition, but tools, kits, products, and licensing. I’m doing my best to balance school and work, but it’s not easy. There have been moments where I’ve questioned if I could keep going, not because I don’t want this badly enough, but because of the financial pressure. This scholarship would ease that burden and allow me to focus fully on learning and growing. More importantly, it would show me that someone out there believes in my potential, and that support would give me the extra push I need to keep striving, even on the days when it gets hard. I’m not just chasing a career I’m chasing a purpose. I want to spend my life making people feel beautiful, not just on the surface but deep within themselves. With this scholarship, I’ll be one step closer to turning my passion into a life-changing reality for me and for the many people I hope to serve in the future.
    Filipino-American Scholarship
If an AI system were trained to understand and represent the Filipino-American experience, I would want it to know that our story is one of quiet strength, sacrifice, and deep cultural pride. Being Filipino-American means constantly living in between balancing two cultures, two sets of expectations, and sometimes two versions of yourself. My story begins with my grandfather, who immigrated from the Philippines and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Like many Filipino men of his generation, he saw military service as a path to opportunity, not just for himself but for the family he hoped to build. His courage and discipline laid the foundation for everything I have today. His sacrifice gave my family a future in America, and his legacy continues to shape how I view hard work, honor, and resilience. I was raised with strong Filipino values: respect for elders, humility, family first, and the importance of perseverance. I grew up watching my parents carry those same values working tirelessly and often putting their needs second to support mine. They taught me to stay grounded, to never take opportunities for granted, and to always strive for more. At the same time, growing up Filipino-American meant navigating spaces where my culture wasn’t always seen or understood. I often had to explain our traditions why we mix English with Tagalog, or why we call friends and neighbors “Tita” and “Tito.” I learned early on how to adapt and make myself “understood,” while still quietly holding onto who I really was. That balancing act became even harder when I realized, in my third year of a four-year university, that I was deeply unhappy. I had followed a path I thought would make everyone proud but it wasn’t mine. Choosing to leave school and pursue hairstyling was terrifying, but it was also the most freeing decision I’ve made. I finally chose a future that felt true to me. No algorithm could ever fully capture what it means to carry the weight of generations while trying to become your most authentic self. Being Filipino-American is more than identity it’s legacy, love, and the courage to dream beyond expectation.
    Brattican Scholarship
For a long time, I believed success could only be achieved by following a traditional path going to college, earning a degree, and finding a “safe” career. That belief led me to enroll in a four-year university right after high school. I committed myself fully, worked hard, and by my third year, I was on track to graduate. But something didn’t feel right. Despite doing well academically, I was deeply unhappy. I felt unmotivated, disconnected, and lost. I couldn’t see a future in what I was studying, and I realized I was living a version of success that wasn’t truly mine. After a lot of reflection and difficult conversations with myself and those around me, I made the life-changing decision to step away from university and follow the path I had always been passionate about: becoming a hairstylist. Hair has always been a natural part of who I am. From a young age, I found myself drawn to styling experimenting with different looks, helping friends get ready for events, and learning techniques through online tutorials and practice. Hairstyling has always been more than just a hobby. It’s where my creativity flourishes and where I feel the most confident and inspired. What excites me most about a career in hairstyling is the opportunity to help people feel good about themselves. I believe hair can be transformative it’s not just about appearance, but about confidence, identity, and self-expression. Pursuing this dream hasn’t been easy. Leaving university meant stepping into the unknown and starting over. But it has also been the most empowering decision I’ve ever made. I finally feel like I’m on a path that’s true to who I am, and I’m motivated every day to work hard, learn new skills, and build a meaningful career. My goal is to not only become a licensed, skilled hairstylist, but also to eventually open my own salon where I can mentor others who are just starting out especially those who, like me, needed the courage to take a different route. This scholarship would have a tremendous impact on my journey. It would help ease the financial pressure of tuition and supplies, allowing me to stay focused on my education and training. More importantly, it would represent an investment in my future and in a career that I’m truly passionate about. Thank you for considering my application. I’m excited about what lies ahead, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my story. I’m ready to put in the work, give back to my community, and turn my passion into a purpose driven career.
