Throughout highschool I have been a part of many extracurricular activities that helped me to become more a part of the school community. I was in volleyball since 7th grade and my senior year I became a captain. I was also in the band from 6th grade to 11th grade and was in the Wind Ensemble for 2 years. I joined the National Honors Society my sophomore year and have found much joy in helping the community by volunteering my time and helping many different donations. In my senior year I joined B3, Building Better Bulldogs. B3 is a leadership-based organization that student leaders of Becker sports have the opportunity to join to become a better captain or teammate.
Although teaching is not exactly what most people think of civil service, I feel that by going into the field of education I can still provide much service and create a positive impact on the public. I hope to make a meaningful difference in many children’s and families’ lives by going into the field of Elementary Education. I aspire to provide the same opportunities to grow, learn, and develop that I had, to the future kids that I will teach. I want to become a teacher who is known to help educate children to become even more of a helpful volunteer than me. This impact, I hope, will reach their parents as well. I will strive to make their lives easier by helping their children grow up to become willing, helpful, growing children.
I was inspired to go down this path by many people in my life. My dad is a teacher and I have always looked up to him in the way that he has always been the first one to volunteer to help. He hardly ever says no, and will always help anyone in need. My dad stays after school everyday helping kids, and he comes in early helping other kids to fit their schedules. I am truly very inspired by him, and he has made me the person who I am today.
I was also inspired to go down the path of education by working at Camp Opportunity, and mentoring for a family friend who is a kindergarten teacher. At work, I organize and execute many different types of activities for kids ages 5-11. Because of this, I have learned to change my plans to fit many unique learning styles and become flexible. This has helped me to realize that everyone needs help in separate ways. While I was a mentor, I loved that I got to be helpful for the teacher and take a small portion of her stress away. I aided her in classroom management and small group activities to make her job easier. I hope that my work as a teacher will inspire many youth and even adults to also help within the community in as many ways that they can.

I feel that I deserve this scholarship because I have always been very focused, hardworking, and organized. I upheld my 4.0 GPA while taking many advanced and college level courses. I have always stayed caught up with my tough school work even with volleyball and working a lot. I believe these are very important characteristics that I have; they have helped me become a great helper and leader. These characteristics are not only seen through my grades but also outside of school. At my job, I plan and run activities for kids after school and all throughout the summer. Being focused has also helped me during volleyball season. I was not only focused on school and my athletic performance, but also very much on my impact on my team and younger teams. I knew that since I was a captain, many people would look up to me. I did my absolute best to be the best person I could on and off the court. Because of this, I was awarded the “Bulldog Award” by my volleyball coach my senior year. I will continue to be the best person I can, because I never know who is looking up to me.
Overall, I think be in a student athlete has made a tremendous impact on the way I live. Because with being an athlete means a lot less time to focus on homework, I learned to work when I have the opportunity to. I also learned to push on and get things done even when I was physically and mentally exhausted. My planning and organization skills have also grown intensely. I learned to plan ahead in case if I had a game or practice and knew I would have less time to get my homework done.

I also hope to become a middle school volleyball coach while I am teaching as another way to serve my community. My volleyball coach was truly one of the most hardworking and service-focused people that I know. She stepped up to become our coach in a time where we desperately needed one, and she still found time to volunteer. She helped us to volunteer our time too, including running different youth volleyball camps.
