Bio

My goal is to pursue a career in the funeral service. I feel that it is a way to help those grieving find peace in their loved one's last resting place. This is a hard pathway, not something many take up or think of, but it is important because it allows people to have peace.

Being raised by a single mother of two, working multiple jobs has given me strength and determination. My mother raised my brother and me by herself. She beat cancer twice, which was hard to watch, but she held her head high and continued to work to support us. She was, and still is, a person that many people know and look up to in her career, despite much pushback against different-minded individuals. Watching her and learning from her has taught me perseverance. She taught me determination. Without her, I would not have the courage to go into such a difficult field. As a young woman working in jobs that are full of older men who have a certain mindset, it was hard for me to stand my ground and stand up for myself and others who were treated poorly. There were times when I felt that I was being looked down upon, mistreated, and often abused in the workplace by many people, including managers. A few times, I had been yelled at for things that were not my fault or the issue of another department. If not for her, I would not have the strength and the will to do so. Not once did I let someone treat me badly because she taught me to be strong. I was taught independence for myself, being shown that while being helped is not something to be ashamed of, but that is is important to be able to bring myself up and not need dependence on others. It hurt me to watch my mother struggle, and I appreciate everything she has done for me. She taught me to enjoy life and that if I work to achieve my goals, then I can continue to make myself happy. I take care of her when she gets sick, and when I start school and move away, I will not be able to continue. Finishing school and starting in my dream field will be an opportunity for me to give back to my mother. I want to help take care of her just as she took care of me. She gave me the strength and determination needed to succeed, and with it, I will be able to make sure she is taken care of. I do not want her to struggle anymore because I think she has worked hard enough, and it is time for her to rest.
