My life goals are to become an ICU nurse and ultimately advance my education to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. These goals are rooted in my desire to provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients during their most critical moments while continuing to grow professionally through lifelong learning.
I am most passionate about patient advocacy and serving vulnerable populations. Through more than 15 years of experience as an ER Technician and hospital EMT, I have seen how fear, trauma, and injustice often accompany illness and injury. I am especially passionate about advocating for individuals affected by domestic violence, child abuse, and sex trafficking—patients who may not feel safe speaking for themselves. I believe creating a calm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment can help restore dignity and trust during times of crisis.
I am a strong candidate because of my perseverance, leadership, and commitment to service. I am a first-generation college student who overcame academic setbacks by retaking prerequisite science courses and significantly improving my performance. I have trained and mentored EMTs and ER technicians, and I am known as someone others trust in high-stress situations. I bring resilience, compassion, and purpose to everything I do, and I am fully committed to completing my nursing education and serving my community.

I still remember standing beside my mother’s hospital bed, and watching nurses care for her with a level of compassion that brought comfort during one of the most difficult times in our family’s life. Despite her illness and frequent hospitalizations, they always treated her with dignity, patience, and kindness. Before she passed away in 2017, I promised her that I would finish my education and become a nurse. That promise has guided me every step of the journey and inspired me to pursue a career dedicated to serving others.
For the past 15 years I have worked as an EMT and as an emergency room technician, where I have witnessed both the fragility and resilience of life. Every shift has reinforced why I chose health care. I have cared for patients experiencing heart attacks, traumatic injuries, strokes, and other life-threatening emergencies. I have celebrated successful outcomes with families and stood beside others during an unimaginable loss. These experiences have taught me that while medicine saves lives, compassion often leaves the greatest impact.
My journey has not been without challenges. As the first person in my family to pursue higher education, I had to learn how to navigate college largely on my own. After facing academic setbacks, I realized I needed to strengthen my study habits and build a stronger scientific foundation. Instead of allowing those obstacles to define me, I repeated prerequisite courses, improved my grades, and continued moving forward. Those experiences taught me resilience, humility, and the importance of lifelong learning qualities that continue to shape me as both a student and a health care professional.
I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing through WGU because I want to expand my ability to care for patients at a higher level. After earning my BSN, I hope to work in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where I can provide critical, evidence-based care to patients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. My long-term goal is to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), combining advanced critical knowledge and compassionate patient care.
Beyond providing excellent medical treatment, I want to make a difference by ensuring every patient feels seen, heard, and respected. A reassuring conversation, careful explanation, or simple act of kindness can have a lasting impact on someone facing fear and uncertainty. I also hope to mentor future nursing students, especially those who have experienced setbacks or doubt their abilities. I want them to know that perseverance, hard work, and compassion can open doors that once seemed impossible.
The medical field inspired me because I have witnessed firsthand the compassionate health care that my mother was provided. Today, that same inspiration drives me to serve others with empathy, professionalism and integrity. Every patient encounters an opportunity on the promise I read to my mother while making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families who place their trust in my care.
Sammy Hason, Sr. Memorial Scholarship
I plan to improve the lives of others through a career in healthcare by combining clinical expertise with compassion, advocacy, and holistic care. For over 15 years, I have worked as an ER Technician and EMT, witnessing firsthand how healthcare professionals impact patients not only physically, but emotionally and psychologically. I have comforted patients and families in moments of crisis, advocated for those who felt unheard, and provided reassurance to individuals facing fear, trauma, or uncertainty. These experiences taught me that improving lives in healthcare requires more than technical skill—it requires empathy, presence, and the ability to treat each person as a whole, recognizing their physical, emotional, and social needs.
My approach to improving the lives of others begins with advocacy and patient-centered care. I have seen patients with chronic or acute illnesses struggle not only with the disease itself, but with the anxiety, isolation, and fear that accompany it. I plan to create a safe, supportive environment where patients feel valued, understood, and empowered to participate in their care. This involves listening actively, validating concerns, educating patients and families, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure the best outcomes. I want patients to know that they are not alone in their journey—that someone is there to guide, protect, and support them every step of the way.
In particular, I envision making a difference for patients with lung disease and rare medical conditions, populations that often face additional challenges, including limited treatment options, misdiagnoses, and a lack of awareness or understanding from the broader community. Patients with lung disease may struggle with breathing, fatigue, and limitations in daily activities, which can be physically and emotionally exhausting. Those with rare conditions may encounter obstacles in accessing care, specialists, or even basic support. Through nursing, I plan to provide holistic, individualized care for these patients—monitoring their physical health, managing symptoms, and advocating for resources, treatments, and education. I also hope to empower patients and families with knowledge about their conditions, helping them navigate the healthcare system with confidence and dignity.
My professional experience has shown me the importance of compassion in every interaction. I have comforted patients during life-altering diagnoses, provided reassurance during procedures, and supported families through grief and uncertainty. I believe these experiences will allow me to offer care that is not only clinically excellent, but also deeply human—ensuring patients with chronic or rare conditions feel heard, supported, and valued.
Ultimately, I plan to improve the lives of others through healthcare by blending technical skill with empathy, education, and advocacy. Whether it is helping a patient breathe easier, providing guidance and reassurance to a family navigating a rare condition, or simply being present during moments of fear and uncertainty, I aspire to create positive, lasting impacts. My goal is to provide care that restores not only physical health, but also confidence, dignity, and hope, improving the overall quality of life for every patient I encounter.
RELEVANCE Scholarship
Every experience in my life has shaped my perspective, resilience, and commitment to healthcare, guiding me toward a career in nursing. Growing up, I faced a childhood where I often felt alone, left to navigate challenges without much guidance. That sense of isolation made me understand the importance of having someone present to support, guide, and advocate for you—especially in moments of fear or vulnerability. I promised myself that no child or patient in my care would ever feel abandoned or scared, and that promise has become a driving force in my professional journey.
My personal challenges became even more profound during my time in healthcare. For over 15 years, I have worked as an ER Technician and EMT, witnessing patients at their most vulnerable. I have comforted parents who lost a child, held the hands of frightened children, and provided calm reassurance to families navigating trauma. I have seen the devastating effects of violence and neglect—cigarette burns, sexual abuse, and severe neglect. These experiences were heartbreaking, but they also reinforced my commitment to serving patients with compassion, empathy, and advocacy. I realized that medicine is not only about treating physical ailments but also about supporting the emotional and psychological well-being of patients and their families.
The loss of my mother in 2017 was a turning point in my life. While I was at work, she passed away. Despite years of preparing myself for her illness, the grief I felt was overwhelming. That moment stripped away the “tough skin” I had developed over years in emergency care and forced me to confront vulnerability, helplessness, and sorrow on a deeply personal level. Through that experience, I learned the importance of self-reflection, resilience, and emotional presence—qualities that are essential in healthcare. I began focusing on self-care, holistic healing, and practicing empathy not only for others but also for myself. This personal loss gave me a profound understanding of what patients and families experience during moments of crisis and loss, and it strengthened my ability to connect with them authentically.
My experiences have also shaped my approach to pediatric care. I loved my pediatrics rotation in nursing school because it allowed me to engage with children in a playful, supportive way. Having experienced loneliness as a child, I understand how crucial it is for children to feel safe and seen. I made a commitment to ensure that every child in my care feels protected and supported, no matter the circumstances. Combining my childhood perspective with my professional experiences allows me to provide care that addresses both the physical and emotional needs of patients.
In summary, my personal challenges—from childhood isolation to professional exposure to trauma, to losing my mother—have profoundly influenced my decision to pursue a career in medicine. These experiences have instilled resilience, empathy, and a commitment to advocacy that I carry into every patient interaction. I hope to use my background to make a positive impact in healthcare by providing compassionate, patient-centered care, advocating for vulnerable populations, and supporting families through the most difficult moments of their lives. Every experience I have faced has shaped me into a caregiver who values both the science and the humanity of medicine, and I am committed to bringing that perspective to my future patients.
Skin, Bones, Hearts & Private Parts Scholarship for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Registered Nurse Students
My motivation for pursuing advanced education in nursing comes from both my professional experiences and my personal commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality care. For over 15 years, I have worked as an ER Technician and EMT, witnessing firsthand how nurses make a profound difference in patients’ lives—not just through technical skill, but through empathy, advocacy, and presence. These experiences showed me that nursing is a career where I can combine clinical expertise with meaningful human connection, helping patients and families navigate their most vulnerable moments.
I am particularly motivated to continue my education to advance into critical care nursing and eventually become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). The complexity and responsibility of these roles align with my desire to provide specialized care while advocating for patients during high-stress situations. Advanced education will equip me with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver safe, evidence-based care, mentor colleagues, and contribute to the broader healthcare community. It will allow me to grow professionally while continuing to serve patients with compassion, integrity, and excellence.
This scholarship will be a blessing in helping me achieve these goals. I recently transitioned from full-time to part-time work in order to focus on my final semester of nursing school. While this has allowed me to dedicate more time to studying, it has also created financial challenges. Between gas, parking, tuition, and daily living expenses, I have relied heavily on credit cards to cover necessities. Receiving this scholarship would relieve financial stress, allowing me to focus entirely on my studies and clinical performance rather than balancing multiple jobs or overtime shifts. It would provide the stability I need to reach the finish line and successfully complete my degree.
Beyond financial support, this scholarship represents recognition of the dedication, resilience, and perseverance I have demonstrated throughout my academic and professional journey. I have faced personal challenges, including the loss of my mother, and professional challenges in a high-stress healthcare environment. Yet, I have remained committed to my education, improving my grades in prerequisite science courses and continuously seeking ways to learn, grow, and provide better care. This scholarship would affirm that commitment and motivate me to continue striving toward my professional and personal goals.
In summary, my motivation for pursuing advanced education stems from a lifelong dedication to helping others, a desire to provide specialized care, and a commitment to growing as a professional in nursing. This scholarship will allow me to focus fully on completing my degree, relieve financial burden, and continue my journey toward making a meaningful impact in healthcare. It represents not just financial support, but a vote of confidence in my dedication to serving patients, families, and my community with compassion, skill, and purpose.

WinnerI am choosing a career in nursing because it allows me to combine my passion for helping others with my extensive experience in healthcare. For over 15 years, I have worked as an ER Technician and EMT, witnessing firsthand how nurses make a profound difference in patients’ lives—not only through medical skill but through compassion, advocacy, and presence. Nursing offers the opportunity to provide care at the most vulnerable and critical moments, and I want to be part of that healing process. It is a career that requires both technical expertise and emotional intelligence, and it aligns perfectly with my strengths, values, and desire to serve.
My favorite term in nursing school was Pediatrics. I loved being able to be silly and play with the kids, creating a safe and comforting environment for them. I had a rough childhood myself and was often left alone. I hated that feeling, so I made a promise to myself that no child in my care would ever feel scared or alone—that they would always have someone there to help and protect them. During my time in the medical field, I have seen the effects of violence and neglect on children—cigarette burns, sexual abuse, and severe neglect. It breaks my heart to see that children have to endure such suffering because of someone else’s actions. These experiences strengthened my desire to work in Pediatrics, where I can advocate for children, provide safety and comfort, and be a consistent, supportive presence in their lives. I want to be the nurse who not only cares for their physical health but also ensures they feel valued, heard, and protected.
Throughout my career in emergency care, I have witnessed the impact nurses have on families during traumatic events. I have comforted parents who lost a child, holding their hands, listening, and offering words of compassion when nothing could undo their grief. I have also supported children who lost a parent, providing reassurance and a calm presence while helping them navigate fear and confusion. These experiences taught me that healing goes far beyond physical treatment—it is emotional, relational, and deeply human. They reinforced the importance of advocacy, empathy, and consistency in care, especially for vulnerable populations.
Pediatric nursing allows me to combine my clinical skills with advocacy and education. I want to guide parents through their child’s care, helping them feel confident, informed, and empowered. I want to create a safe space where children can express their fears, ask questions, and feel comforted. Whether it is celebrating small victories, holding a child’s hand during a procedure, or offering a parent the reassurance they need, I hope to make every patient and family feel supported and understood.
Ultimately, I am pursuing nursing, and specifically pediatric nursing, because it allows me to serve with purpose, compassion, and impact. I want to be a source of comfort, strength, and guidance for children and their families, helping them navigate difficult moments while promoting healing, hope, and trust. Through pediatric nursing, I hope to make a meaningful difference in my community, ensuring that every child and family I care for feels safe, respected, and valued.
Losinger Nursing Scholarship
My personal inspiration for pursuing a career in nursing comes from both my professional experience and deeply personal life events. I have worked as an ER Technician and EMT for over 15 years, witnessing firsthand how nurses impact patients not only through medical expertise but through compassion, presence, and advocacy. In high-pressure situations, nurses provide calm, reassurance, and guidance, helping patients and families navigate fear and uncertainty. Observing their dedication inspired me to make the same difference in the lives of others.
My mother’s health struggles and passing in 2017 profoundly shaped my decision to pursue nursing. While I was at work, she passed away—despite knowing her time was near, I was unprepared for the depth of grief I would feel. That experience stripped away the “tough skin” I had built in emergency care, leaving me confronting helplessness and guilt. It also revealed the critical role nurses play in offering care, comfort, and advocacy when loved ones cannot be present. I realized nursing is not just a profession but a calling to serve others in their most vulnerable moments.
I am inspired to advocate for patients who may feel unseen or unheard, including those affected by trauma, abuse, or violence. I want to provide care that is compassionate, trauma-informed, and empowering, ensuring patients feel safe, respected, and supported. My experiences, both personal and professional, have strengthened my resilience, empathy, and commitment to serving others. Nursing represents the perfect combination of skill, compassion, and service, and I am determined to honor this path by making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families.
To me, the phrase “human touch” goes far beyond physical contact—it represents empathy, compassion, presence, and genuine connection. In healthcare, human touch is the ability to make patients and families feel seen, heard, and valued, especially during moments of vulnerability, fear, or loss. A subtle hand on a shoulder, active listening with eye contact, clear communication, patience, or small acts of kindness that convey respect and dignity.
I have comforted parents who lost a child. I cleaned and placed on the "beanie and booties" on the baby. I made sure I bundled them up while on the gurney. I have placed a teddy bear to show that the baby is comfortable and safe, even if they are no longer here. I held their hands, listening, and offering words of compassion in moments when nothing could undo their grief. I have let them scream and cry so they can release that emotion. I have also supported children who lost a parent, providing reassurance and a calm presence while helping them navigate fear and confusion. I have even opened up and shared my personal experience to provide some "roadmap" to help aid them in their healing journey. These experiences showed me that healing goes beyond physical treatment—it is emotional, relational, and deeply human.
Human touch fosters trust, reduces anxiety, and can improve cooperation with care. When nurses take the time to acknowledge emotions, validate feelings, and offer support, patients and families feel understood and safe. Even small gestures, like a comforting word or gentle guidance through a procedure, can make patients feel valued and respected. Families often mirror this reassurance, gaining stability in what is otherwise a chaotic and overwhelming situation.
Moreover, human touch contributes to holistic healing. Patients who feel cared for emotionally and psychologically often experience lower stress, greater satisfaction with care, and better overall well-being. In my own practice, I have seen how empathy and presence transform fear into trust, helping patients and families navigate traumatic situations with dignity.
Human touch is an essential component of nursing because it bridges the gap between technical skill and compassionate care. As a future nurse, I aspire to integrate human touch into every interaction—ensuring patients and families feel supported, respected, and understood. In this way, nursing fulfills its true purpose: healing not only the body but also the human spirit.
Community Health Ambassador Scholarship for Nursing Students
I want to pursue a degree in nursing because I am deeply committed to providing compassionate, skilled care to individuals in their most vulnerable moments. My journey into healthcare began over 15 years ago as an ER Technician and EMT, where I witnessed firsthand the critical role that nurses play in patient outcomes. I saw how their knowledge, calm demeanor, and ability to advocate for patients made tangible differences in moments of crisis. These experiences inspired me to advance my education and take on a greater role in patient care, ultimately leading to my goal of becoming an ICU nurse and, eventually, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Nursing offers the unique combination of technical expertise, critical thinking, and human connection that aligns with both my skills and my values.
During my years in emergency care, I have encountered patients facing a wide range of challenges, including trauma, chronic illness, and abuse. These experiences revealed the impact nurses can have not only medically but emotionally, socially, and psychologically. I have developed resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure, skills that will serve me well in nursing school and beyond. More importantly, I have learned the significance of empathy, patience, and advocacy—qualities that transform healthcare into a truly healing experience. My desire to pursue nursing is fueled by the knowledge that I can make a difference in the lives of patients and families, providing care that is not only competent but compassionate.
I also want to contribute to my community as a nurse by serving vulnerable and underserved populations. Throughout my career, I have worked with patients affected by domestic violence, child abuse, and sex trafficking—individuals who often feel invisible or unheard. I hope to use my nursing education to recognize signs of abuse and trauma, provide holistic and trauma-informed care, and connect patients with the resources and support they need. By advocating for these individuals and ensuring they receive fair and respectful care, I can help create a more equitable healthcare environment. I believe that even small acts of advocacy and compassion can have lasting effects, and I am committed to being a consistent, trustworthy presence for those who need it most.
Additionally, I plan to give back to my community by mentoring and educating others. Having trained new EMTs and ER Technicians, I understand the value of guidance, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing in healthcare. As a nurse, I intend to support colleagues and future students, helping them navigate the challenges of clinical work, promoting professional development, and fostering collaboration. I also hope to raise awareness in my community about health, safety, and preventive care, emphasizing education as a powerful tool for improving public health outcomes.
Ultimately, my pursuit of a nursing degree is about more than a career—it is about service, impact, and creating positive change. By combining my experience, education, and personal commitment, I hope to contribute to a healthcare system that values empathy, advocacy, and excellence. I aspire to be a nurse who not only provides exceptional care at the bedside but also uplifts my community, supports my colleagues, and inspires trust, hope, and healing for every patient I encounter. Nursing is my path to making a meaningful difference in both individual lives and the broader community, and it is a responsibility I embrace wholeheartedly.
Jase Davidsaver RN Memorial Scholarship
I plan to positively impact the nursing profession by combining my extensive experience in emergency care with a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care. For over 15 years, I have worked as an ER Technician and EMT, gaining firsthand experience in high-pressure, high-acuity situations. This background has taught me resilience, critical thinking, and the importance of clear communication—skills I will carry into my career as a nurse. My goal is to use these experiences to not only provide excellent patient care but also to mentor and support colleagues, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment in nursing.
One way I will impact the profession is by advocating for vulnerable populations. During my career, I have encountered patients affected by domestic violence, child abuse, and sex trafficking—individuals who often feel unheard or unsafe. I aim to provide trauma-informed care that prioritizes dignity, safety, and empowerment, ensuring every patient feels respected and supported. By championing these patients and helping connect them with resources, I hope to inspire other nurses to recognize the broader social and emotional aspects of care.
I also intend to positively influence nursing through education and mentorship. I have trained new EMTs and ER Technicians, serving as a guide for those entering high-stress healthcare environments. As a nurse, I will continue this commitment by supporting students and colleagues, sharing knowledge, and modeling professional and ethical behavior. By contributing to the growth of other nurses, I can help elevate the quality of care across the profession.
Finally, I will impact nursing by promoting resilience and emotional well-being within the workplace. Having navigated personal loss while maintaining professional responsibilities, I understand the importance of self-care and reflection. I hope to encourage my peers to prioritize mental health, seek support when needed, and build a culture where nurses can thrive without sacrificing compassion or quality of care.
Through patient advocacy, mentorship, and fostering resilience, I am committed to contributing to a nursing profession that is skilled, compassionate, and inclusive. My experiences, values, and determination drive me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, colleagues, and the profession as a whole.
Enders Scholarship
I have been an ER Technician and EMT for 15 years, a career in which I have consistently confronted the realities of death and dying. Over time, I developed a “tough skin” to get through shifts and manage the emotional weight of the work. However, that resilience was truly tested in 2017, when my mother passed away while I was at work. Even with all my experience, training, and knowledge that her time was nearing, nothing could have prepared me—her son—for the depth of the loss. That tough exterior I had built immediately fell away. I felt helpless, ignorant, and robbed. I struggled with guilt and frustration, especially knowing I was not there in her final moments, although my sisters were.
In the months that followed, I realized I needed self-reflection and self-care to navigate the grief. I began actively working to stop negative self-talk, exploring self-help books, and returning to the gym to release aggression and tension. Meditation and journaling became essential tools for me: meditation helped me remain grounded and calm amid emotional turbulence, while journaling provided a safe space to process thoughts I could not yet verbalize. I also began practicing spiritually and exploring holistic healing, which taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of tending to my emotional well-being. These practices not only helped me heal but also gave me the tools to better support others in distress.
Before her passing, I promised my mother that I would finish school. I believe she held on longer because she wanted to ensure I would be okay on my own. I now have one more semester of nursing school left before graduation, and each step forward is both a tribute to her and a personal victory and promise to myself. Completing my education is a way to honor her and fulfill the promise I made, demonstrating the perseverance and commitment she instilled in me.
Some of my biggest influences are my nurse coworkers, who provide guidance, mentorship, and insight beyond the classroom. They have shown me new ways to approach clinical concepts, navigate high-pressure situations, and provide compassionate care even during emotionally taxing shifts. Their example inspires me to grow not just academically, but as a caregiver who can remain calm under pressure while offering emotional support to patients and families.
Through the loss of my mother, I have learned about my own resilience, the depth of my compassion, and the importance of empathy. I have discovered the value of emotional awareness and self-care, not only for myself but for those I care for professionally. My experiences have reinforced my commitment to complete my education, become a nurse, and provide care rooted in compassion, integrity, and understanding. Losing my mother taught me that vulnerability can be met with strength, and that even in grief, one can find purpose and direction. These lessons guide me every day as I work toward my goals and continue to grow both personally and professionally.
