Law Family Single Parent Scholarship
While the literature addressing the experiences of women in higher
education is expanding, the experiences of single mothers in academia remains
under-explored, despite single student mothers being the largest and fastest
growing student demographic in higher education institutions. The role of single
mothers who are pursuing degrees while raising children assumes crucial
importance in helping forge means of support that are not governmentdependent, as well as enabling single parent student mothers to role model
educational pursuits and achievement of degrees as possibilities for dependents.
Though college degrees can provide means of financial stability and immense
social and professional benefits for sole provider single–parent homes, higher
education can prove significantly detrimental to the quality of parenting single
parent students provide dependent children, and can negatively impact personal
health, financial and economic security, and interpersonal relationships from
undertaking multiplicity of roles.
This study seeks to understand the challenges, needs and experiences
which occur at the intersection of parenthood and studenthood for single parent
student mothers, as well as exploring ideologies of what it means to be a “good
parent” or “good student.” It also inquires into student mothers’ perceptions of
institutional support, which may impact matriculation or attrition and seeks to
ascertain whether existing college policies need to be restructured to better
support the degree-seeking endeavors of single parent student mothers.
iv
Study findings revealed key themes that emerged from the data:
participant awareness of constrained and competing time demands; competing
pressures to produce the identities of “good mom” and “good student”; guilt
arising from missed event choices; outcomes of forced choice events; guilt over
lower classroom performance and loss of class standing over missed choice
events; participants’ perspectives of in-class support by teachers or professors;
participants’ views regarding presence or absence of institutional support tailored
to their specific needs as single parent student mothers; participants’ concerns
regarding student debt; and categories of unmet need and support services that
would assist single mothers to degree completion. Student parents’ discursive
narratives indicated internal and external pressure to perform better as students
and parents.
Results revealed that nearly all respondents were forced on some
occasions to choose between attendance at school and family events and being
present at moments which would ensure optimal outcomes in both categories of
competing identities. Conflict was experienced by respondents when student
mothers were forced to shift into and out of various roles and identities which
made it difficult for student parents to maximize performance in any central area
of personal or professional achievement. Finally, student mothers’ discourses
indicated they perceived others’ perceptions of their in-class performance, class
standing, and professional trajectory of their achievement suffered when a forced
choice situation resulted in their absence or tardy in a course, or inability toparticipate in a group class activity. Student mothers revealed through their
narratives instructors who shamed them in front of classmates for having to bring
a child to class, or castigated them for bringing a child to an inappropriate forum
in which content was not perceived as child-suitable. Student mother narratives
revealed resentment regarding being exhorted to choose between being a parent
and being a student, when, in their opinions, they were forced to undertake both
roles concurrently, without sufficient support to engage in either role.

My advice for overcoming such a barrier is to discover your personalized method of learning. In my experience, I had nobody to lean on and no formal structure or institution for learning the language—I was left with only my determination and critical thinking skills. Following some lessons that I could still not understand, I realized I could quickly observe objects or individuals or patterns and make certain predictions behind meanings of sounds. I used this as a base for establishing certain sounds that were regularly used in English. Quickly, however, I realized I wasn’t able to actually retain any of this knowledge unless I myself attempted to form the words. After making this connection, I realized my learning style was very physical—my ability to comprehend a subject was accelerated by my opportunity to feel or physically accomplish a task.
Once I realized my learning style, I began to observe sounds and the corresponding shape of the mouth created by the one who elicited the sound. After I had a basic understanding of how to form sounds the only task remaining was a simple one of associating these sounds with objects which was a far easier task to accomplish. Examples were when we needed to “line up” for lunch I could associate the words with the shape the students began to form, or when asked to close the door I followed the path created by the teacher’s finger.
Overcoming a language barrier is a tall task to say the least, but it is most certainly not an impossible one. My advice to those who find themselves in a similar position is to find the means of learning that work best for your mind. Not everybody will be able to look at a book and digest the rules of a language, so know that you can find the style of learning that will be best processed by your mind. Most importantly, don’t let your frustration overcome your dedication to learn the language. Whether or not you need to learn the language for a reason like my own, or if you’re choosingThough I am beyond proud of being bilingual and able to relate to my Mexican roots, it sadly caused considerable trouble as I began school. Alongside the challenge of learning English to keep up in the classroom, my poor performance made me vulnerable to bullying by my peers.
I was an active child who loved to learn about the world around me, and so I was ecstatic at the opportunity to go to school. Much to my dismay, I was unable to learn anything for the first semester I attended. My poor performance was the last thing on my mind, however, as I was constantly left to myself in class and struggled a great deal to make any sort of connections. Being so young, I hadn’t realized that this was abnormal and that the remarks made by my classmates were in fact directed attacks.
I had not realized the full extent of this problem until a fateful day at recess. The school had a large jungle gym fully equipped with a slide and monkey bars—the works. Unfortunately, I didn’t have many friends and so I spent most of my time sitting on the swings by myself. One day, a few of my classmates had approached me and insisted I follow them, saying something I couldn’t understand. Once we climbed the jungle gym I truly felt on top of the world as it seemed I would have friends for the first time in the semester.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
Having a mental illness can affect intimacy in a few ways. “For example, depression symptoms can leave you disinterested in relationships or sex in general,” Miller comments. “Intimacy might be triggering, or side effects of medication might decrease libido. If you notice your medication affects you in these ways, talk to your prescriber. Do not stop taking your medication.” Explaining how these symptoms may impact you and defining boundaries can help to provide a safe space for intimacy for both you and your partner.

One of the defining characteristics of science is the reality that the more you know, the more you realize you don’t know. And there is perhaps no field today in which that is more evident than in astronomy. Over the last two decades, we have learned that we fundamentally do not understand the stuff that comprises 95 percent of the universe: dark energy and dark matter. In one sense, in this time of scientific achievement, our ignorance is a little embarrassing. But in another sense, this is a time of enormous excitement. There are deep mysteries to be solved, presenting a great challenge to the researchers of our time.
We first learned about dark energy about fifteen years ago. Cosmologists had long expected that the force of gravity produced by the matter in the universe would cause the universe’s expansion to slow down, and perhaps eventually to reverse course. But contrary to everyone’s expectations, observations of Type Ia supernovae by the High-Z Supernova Search Team in 1998 and by the Supernova Cosmology Project one year later suggested that the expansion of the universe is actually accelerating. Thus, we were presented with a great mystery: why is the universe’s expansion accelerating, and what could possibly be fueling it? To answer these questions, cosmologists rethought the known contents of the universe, determining that about 70 percent of its matter/energy inventory is embodied in dark energy, a substance we have not yet begun to understand.
But even before the discovery of evidence for dark energy, we had already found evidence of dark matter. In fact, Vera Rubin, a Carnegie astronomer, was responsible for the verification of the existence of dark matter. Rubin helped prove dark matter’s existence through her measurements of its influence on the movement of stars within galaxies. The trajectories she observed simply did not fit Newton’s laws of gravity; there had to be matter that we cannot observe. Once we accommodate it, we find that dark matter constitutes about 25 percent of the matter/energy inventory of the universe.

Deliver a Message with Impact and Give it Exposure
Whether you're creating the message, or working within an existing campaign, as a designer you can communicate with impact. Ultimately, the message should make you think or be something positive that makes people want to grab onto. You can also get creative with your method of delivery or use of social media. Of course, this is what we do best as designers - give ideas shape, form, and strong visual appeal. Choose the right cause and jump in.
Choose to Work with Companies or Organizations that Make a Difference
You could choose to work directly for a charity or non-profit organization. Thereby, contributing daily to assisting the groups cause. This could be on an individual project or permanent basis. Or, as a freelancer choose to only take on work from organizations and companies who's polices and practices you agree with.
You may choose to work for a corporation or business though. Before accepting a design position with a company, you should review their policies, evaluate what they contribute to making a difference, and what your role might be in these initiatives.

My goal is to be a Mechanical engineer at boing or any type mechanical works really. mechanical is always be my main subject that I wanted study since I was 2 week old in belly. This subject also is really hard and need lazy boy like me to continue. I finished my 2 year in Graphic Design& Web Design at Everett Community College and I hate Math so much I don't know why?
I overcome an obstacle by complain about everything. People want to hear woe is me over and over again, especially if I know about it. However, do not ask for help and for suggestions from others that may have been in similar situations. Because I always right and people opinion are doesn't go through my block head easily.

Self-expression is an important part of human nature, and it’s a base human desire that everyone experiences in their life. You don’t have to be in art school, or create marble sculptures or encompass a natural-born knack for creating realistic paintings; whatever you create is an extension of you, and it is beautiful in that regard.
Art and creative expression is a powerful tool that can be used to benefit both your mental health and your physical health.Living a lifestyle that is conducive to stress and anxiety can take a toll on one’s mental and physical health over time, and releasing pent up tension through the act of art is a great solution. Painting, drawing, clay sculpting and photography are some examples of activities that can help lower your stress levels. Creating art requires concentration and focus on the task at hand, and you can find yourself absorbed in the process, providing a distraction for your brain from the overwhelming thoughts and to-do lists that usually preoccupy the modern, busy mind.
Regularly creating art is a great way to consistently lower stress levels, which can lead to overall mental and physical health improvements.Art can also be beneficial for aging brains, and creating art requires practicing visualization and memory, making drawing and painting perfect activities to combat the development of memory disorders in old age. Mental decline is partly due to the loss of communication between brain cells rather than the death of brain cells, and practicing art can contribute to brain stimulation as well as the growth of new neurons.
Practicing and learning an art can help foster creativity, and can help engage your brain as a whole. Creative ability isn’t limited just to art, but practicing creative skills and engaging with the imagination can be directly related to creating art. There is no correct answer to art, and the process of creating and creative thinking allows you to come up with unique ideas and solutions in the moment, and that thinking can translate over to your everyday life, infusing creativity into your latest project at work, or your homework assignment for school.
Positive accomplishment, such as sewing, drawing or painting, photography or gardening (to name a few) can release the neurotransmitter dopamine into your system, which not only stimulates the creation of new neurons that can help keep the brain active, but can also combat depression and increase self-esteem.

The most challenging obstacle i have ever faced was lack of motivation. motivation helps us to pursue our interests and career or business goals. When we have the presence of someone whom we can trust for sharing our issues and constraints we feel relaxed. Motivational force creates people's mind clear and focused to achieve success and making decisions when necessary. At some point of time in life after completing graduation from the university, i was planning to go for another course in accounting and business management. But most of the family members wanted me to join for an employment option. This situation created confusions and uncertainty impact of lack of motivation- The impact was very disappointing because when we desire for better options in our career to pursue our interests in a less motivated situation we feel insecurity and intolerance. A great confusion took place at that time to go for a career option where our personal interests and objectives are achieved. Learnings - The difficult situations which were the obstacles in choosing career was an option for learning diffident things in life. Even when we have lack of support we should be focused to go for our interests and career goals. Because in a later point of time we may not get chance or opportunities to take such important decisions. Overcoming the situation - While getting inadequate support and motivation to pursue our career or business objectives and decisions we should not get deviated. Because when we have a plan and the courage to pursue it, success will be ours. We could motivate ourselves with a belief that we will be successful in the area we choose to be. The minimum support in taking vital decisions especially regarding personal career options can be utilised in a positive manner to support our decisions and thereby motivate ourselves to strive for success. When I overcome the obstacles with focused mind with decisions and self motivation, it resulted in achieving the goals which were set as standards for achieving. Confidence, courage, focused mind set along with career oriented mind set helped me to reach my goals by completing the higher studies with part time employment even when there was lack of motivation from the associated people
