    Samuel D. Hartley Memorial Scholarship
I believe that I should be considered for the Samuel D. Hartley Memorial Scholarship by reason of my personal experience in the golf industry. As a former member of the Notah Begay III Native Golf Team and current NB3 Junior golf coach, I believe I have the skills and knowledge to teach and grow the game of golf. It is my goal to teach the game of golf to my Native American community in New Mexico along with my entire community. I believe that it is my purpose in this world to teach our youth about the sport along with educating them on living a healthy and happy lifestyle. The NB3 Foundation has had a tremendous impact on my career choices and has given me the proper motivation to pursue these goals. As a junior golf coach I am required to have the proper playing ability to teach and I have attained a 3.0 handicap and am continuing to improve my game and I am confident in my ability to become scratch or a plus handicap in the near future. In the fall semester of 2023, I will be apart of the Professional Golf Management Program at New Mexico State University where I will pursue a marketing degree along with PGA Certification. In the PGM I will be continuing my education in marketing along with learning the rope of the golf industry. In the summers of my college years I will be completing 4 internships at multiple prestigious golf courses in the United States. One of which will be Turning Stone Golf Resort in New York and was a course designed by the owner of the NB3 Foundation, Notah Begay. In my personal experiences with Notah Begay, I have been heavily influenced and encouraged by him to continue to teach the game of golf along with multiple tips and advice for life, golf, and perseverance. My involvement with the Professional Golf Management Program is one of the reasons I should be considered for this scholarship. As a member of the PGM I will not only gain the knowledge and experience of the golf industry, I will have the motivation to pass college tests, study, go above and beyond to achieve my goals simply because my career choices are my dream. I was told by many of my elders and mentors to do what I love. Golf is what I love and I know my purpose is within the golf industry which is why I should be considered for this scholarship, because I will do whatever it takes to achieve my career goals and continue in the golf industry.
    Jared Ethan Trueba Memorial Scholarship
My name is Gabriel Knowshisgun and I am a senior at Cibola High School. I feel positive about myself along with my peers that we have made a positive impact on others in our community. I am a two year member of National Honor Society where I am a senior officer and my title is historian. Although I am the historian I have run the annual Thanksgiving food drive at our high school. As a group of officers we were able to collect 1175 Thanksgiving food items along with 25 turkeys. When giving away the boxes to our list of families in need and seeing the happiness was a day to remember. One of my most recent projects was on January 21st 2023 where I organized a community service project to parter with the local First Nations Community Health organization where we as a group bagged over 500 bags of food and health items that would eventually be distributed to the homeless population in Albuquerque. I believe that community service is a great opportunity to help others in need but to also help yourself. I know I have felt great about myself and my peers when I do community service and it is something I want to continue in the future when I attend college. I plan to attend New Mexico State University where I will join the PGM program (professional golf management) and I plan to chase a leadership position in the program to continue to work in community service and get others to get involved as well. One of my favorite National Honor Society projects was back in 2022 where we as a group worked with Tree New Mexico where we planted trees for multiple people in the Eastern part of Albuquerque. Many of which were older couples and the smiles and happiness it brought to the community is something that I enjoyed and something that is absolutely priceless. I understand that helping the community and giving back is extremely important, which is why I want to continue to go down the community service path in college and beyond. I believe as an officer in National Honor Society it is important to understand we are a group and there are no individual “I’s” in community service which is why I say we as a group accomplished what we were and will be able to accomplish. I strive to do my best and set the absolute best example I can as an officer so that the next group of NHS students can continue our work towards giving back to the community. Our school community is one of the best in Albuquerque and as a leadership group we can continue to support each other. Along with my community service at school with NHS I am also apart of the Notah Begay III foundation Native golf team where we also engage in multiple community service activities. Many of these events I have participated are more towards helping my personal community which is the Native American community. I was given great support and help by my Native American community so it is only right for me to give back. Overall I believe myself and my peers at Cibola High School have had a positive impact on our community which we all hope to continue and to help our students, staff, parents, and our entire Albuquerque society prosper and thrive!
