Bio

Hi there, My name is Jabria Fuller. I plan to attend Elon University and major in Biochemistry. Since I was a child, I have always been interested in science. I loved learning about the way things function on earth. I aspire to become a biochemist or a biotechnologist. One of my main goals in life is to inspire younger women who have a passion for science. Minority black women are significantly underrated in the stem field. I want to encourage the younger generation of women in my community by leading by example. During my career, I want to focus on combating climate change. Specifically, working in industrial biotechnology and developing new renewable resources.

      Bold Caring for Seniors Scholarship
During November and December of 2021, I participated in a program called the Senior Chromebook Project. It was started by a local nonprofit organization in my town called Spoken Word Existence. My classmate and I were allowed to educate elderly members of our community using technology. Our curriculum covered skills such as: how to create social media accounts, typing, starting a zoom call, practicing internet safety, tracking medical appointments, and searching the internet. Many of my students struggled with understanding the different concepts of the computer. One of my most entertaining students, Mr. Goose, struggled with typing. He joked with me once saying “I wish it was a way I could just talk and it would type it for me." I then showed him the microphone feature on Google Search and he was delighted. I stressed, however, that he still needed to practice typing. One of the most crucial topics we covered was internet safety. The Elderly community is at a higher risk of being targeted by scammers. We emphasized the seriousness of knowing your account information and keeping it secure. Another student, Ms. Gant spoke about the significance of cookies and how “Y’all can’t accept cookies from everybody, it’ll get you messed up. ” When the program ended, my students had grown significantly with using technology and learned the basics of the Chromebook. The Spoken Word Existence Organization has planned to host the program every year due to its success.

November through December 2021, I participated in a program called the Senior Chromebook Project. It was started by a local nonprofit organization in my town called Spoken Word Existence. This project was related to computer science. I had taken many computer science and microsoft classes in my academic career so, when the opportunity was brought up by my college counselor, I was very excited. Another classmate and I were tasked with educating elderlymembers in our community about how to use technology. In this class, we taught our students things like how to create social media accounts, learn typing, start a zoom call, practice internet safety, track doctors appointments, and search the internet. Many of my students struggled with understanding the different concepts of the computer. One of my most entertaining students, Mr. Goose, struggled with typing. He joked with me once saying, “I wish it was a way I could just talk and it would type it for me”. I then showed him the microphone feature on Google Search and he was delighted. I stressed, however, that he still needed to practice typing. One of my favorite topics we covered was internet safety. Elderly people are vulnerable and more susceptible to getting scammed, particularly through the internet. We stressed the importance of knowing your account information and keeping it secure and not responding to unknown emails asking for money. Ms. Gant spoke about the significance of cookies and how “y’all can’t be accepting them cookies from everybody, it’ll get you messed up.” When the program was concluded, my students had grown significantly and learned the basics of the chromebook. The Spoken Word Existence Organization has planned to host the program every year due to its success.
      Bold Dream Big Scholarship
My dream life, after graduating med school, becoming an anesthesiologist , I would buy my mother the house she always wanted, with a farm , a huge front porch with several acres. As we sat in the rocking chairs , my brother would be outside tending to the horses that he wanted since we were 6. My aunt Hattie would pull into the yard bringing her famous butterscotch pie. We would all go into the kitchen next to the stone fireplace and cut a slice. Meme and Risha, my cousins would bring their kids. I would take them out to the pond in the pasture and watch them play in the water. My grandfather would cook on the grill. Like always, I would help him grill the hot dogs. After the food was down we would all sit down in the house ,eat and tale stories of the past. My Mother would talk about Grandma Victoria , and how she was the sweetest woman she ever knew. She would speak about the fun times she had with my 15 aunts and uncles. How my uncle ToJo believed he was a Kung fu master. How my uncle Sterling jumped on my grandfather in the middle of the night because he thought he was the “green man”. We would all laugh and cry throughout the night. Finally as the fun came to an end ,everyone would say goodbye and leave. Not without fixing them another plate tho. Me and my brother would stay and sleep over. As i laid down on the palate on the living room floor , like old times, I would think about all the tears , the pain and the hardships in my life and realize it was all worth it.
