Bio

Young professional with a passion for civil engineer, and business | Fluency in French, Haitian Creole | Passion for mentorship, and orator. Hello to everybody! At Brockton High School, I serve as a mentor and a senior. I'll begin college in the fall of 2023 to pursue a career as a civil engineer. Reading books that discuss wisdom is one of my loves that I enjoy doing. Life requires us to develop our minds. And for that reason, I enjoy reading books to learn more about life and about God, our savior. In addition, Robert Schuller remarked in one of my favorite quotes, "How big would you dream if you knew you couldn't fail?" I ask myself this question every day of my life because this quote applies to everything in life. My ultimate goal is to become a civil engineer and to operate a global corporation. Moreover, I am a great candidate because I know the courage it takes to keep pursuing even in the good and challenges times. What is more, I am a mentor, and it requires me to teach people the importance of not giving up, and to always keep pursuing when obstacles appear. I have faith in everyone, and I know we all have a personal legend. Do not give up. I am a strong man. A man that will not give up. A man with passions, wisdoms and purpose.

My Pathway The most important question we ask ourselves is “Why are we choosing our pathway?” Looking beyond the obvious, we realize everyone has their pathway, skills, and vision that makes them unique. Most of us are giving up because of the fear of getting lost while pursuing our dreams. While some of us keep going because our dreams are a purpose in our hearts. I was raised in Haiti by my mother who always told me “You have a future inside of your heart do not let it go". I slowly came to understand the meaning of her words as I got older and continued with my studies. Oftentimes in my confusion, I would ask my mom “what do you mean by those words?” and she would respond “Do not let it go.” I hold her advice and attempt to live by it. I vividly remember one of the most painful memories of my childhood that had shaped me and served as a source of motivation today. Back when I was a child, three of my classmates inquired me, “what do you want to be in life?” with a proud smile, I said, “I would love to become a civil engineer.” They all shouted “Math is an undiscovered subject. You will not make it to be a Civil Engineer.” Although I knew I was not that brilliant in math, I stood with sorrow in my heart and said, “You may think math is hard, but my vision of helping the community, and building new houses for people in need will not stop me from archiving my dreams just because of math.” Becoming a civil engineer is fulfilling my long-lasting dream. Besides that, it is a way of giving back to my community and living up to my mom's advice, the ethics and character that she attempted to instill in me. Getting a college degree is not sufficient for me. I would love my dreams to benefit others and to make the lives of others easier. The road to becoming a civil engineer will not be easy. I understand the hardship and competitive aspects of engineering. Failure and abandonment are two concepts that I strive to overcome. I understand that math may not be the easiest subject for me, however regardless of the level of difficulty, I know I can succeed with hard work as I was told by a previous Brockton High Math teacher “Math is about practice, nothing is difficult in math.” Civil engineering may be a challenging and demanding field, nevertheless, all the requirements do not compare to the goodness that the degree will bring. I am now able to understand the meaning behind mother’s metaphor when she said, “You have a future in your heart. Do not let it go.” Sometimes in life, you will find people that will make you doubt your abilities. It is my responsibility to stand for my dreams. My dream is selfless and will benefit others.

The most important question the universe asks us is, “who are we?” When we look beyond the obvious, we realize that every human has their own story, their own set of feelings, emotions, and experiences that make them unique. Most of us are hiding our true selves so that we can easily fit in with the crowd. I choose to bare my transparent and vulnerable side by penning down my story. I was raised in Haiti by a beautiful woman who is my mother. She raised two of her children by herself, which is my older sister and I. The love and sacrifice that my mother made for me and my sister are simply undoubtedly the maximum. Mother is the greatest blessing of God in everyone’s life and my mother epitomizes them all. Growing up, we did not have the chance to grow up with a paternal figure, because he migrated to the United States. Every day, I witness my mother fighting for us so we can be successful. I always hold my mom’s hands and tell her, “You are a strong angel even if the world can’t see it.” One afternoon after playing my favorite sport, which is basketball, I sat down on the porch, sweaty, looking at the bird flying down next to me because my mother threw corn on the floor earlier. Suddenly, I heard the phone ringing, I stood up and was stunned that the birds didn’t fly away. As I entered the house, my mother said, “your father is on the phone.” At that moment, my happiness shines like a star to talk to my dad. On March 3, 2018, a day when the sun was bright, the radio was loud I was dancing holding a mango, and suddenly I heard a knock at the door. I ran to it without my sandal not knowing who that person could be. When I opened the door, I was surprised to see my dad standing in front of me. I couldn’t think of anything but jumped on him with excitement. He then asked for my sister and told us to get ready and come with him to his house. However, we didn’t have our mother’s approval since she wasn’t home. Two days later after my dad had taken us to his house, he told me and my sister about traveling to the United States without our mother knowing. I felt downhearted, but My dad leaves us with no option because we were little. When we arrived in the United States, he gave me his mobile so I can talk to my mother and the moment I heard my mother’s voice, I felt a hole in my heart when I heard her asking, “where are my children?” I always think of those days, regretting that my mom wasn’t home, regretting that I was happy to see my dad not knowing that my contentment will end the day I met him. The smart man I am today, and my uniqueness come from the story that my dad has created in me. I haven't seen my mother for five years. I don’t remember how it feels to be hugged by my mother. My story motivates me to never give up in life no matter how hurtful, lonely, or detached life can be. My story helps me to become a better man. A man that will never detach from his mother, a man that knows the meaning of a mother, and a man that later will not separate his child from their mother. My story, simple, but hard like a rock.
