My name is Francesca and I am currently a first year dental student in Florida! Growing up in Nicaragua, provided me with a unique life experience that really opened my eyes to the reality that many people face outside the United States. For many people running water, electricity, and access to oral care is a privilege rather than a right. Once moved to this country at the age of 15, I wanted to take the opportunity to be able to help people locally and globally in some meaningful way. I was also interested in a career that was hands-on. Therefore, when I was exposed to dentistry it made perfect sense for me. It was a career that was going to let me bring my creativity and artistic skills to the table, all the while being able to make a difference in people's lives. The more I learn about dentistry, the more I realize that dentistry is truly my biggest passion. My goal as a Dentist is to build clinics in underserved communities to provide better access to oral care and make programs to better educate communities about the importance of oral healthcare and its connection to the rest of the body.

Dr. Anastasia Pre-Dental and Dental Student Scholarship
My name is Francesca Frech and I am currently a D1 at Nova Southeastern University! Since I was a little girl, I had always gravitated towards more artistic and manual activities. These ranged from drawing classes after school when I was younger, to learning how to do professional make-up in high school. I thought the career I would pursue during college was going to follow that pattern. However, since I grew up around poverty in Nicaragua, helping others in need was something I’ve always held close to my heart. When I was introduced to the field of dentistry I realized it was exactly what I was looking for. It was a career that was hands on, and gave me the opportunity to give back to others as well. Although dental school has been hard, everyday I wake up more convinced than ever before that this is the career I was meant to do. I truly cannot imagine myself doing anything else. Every day I wake up and feel so lucky that I was given the opportunity to do what I truly love. As a dentist in the future, I plan to take on leadership positions in the field of dentistry and hopefully improve the access to care and patient education.
