The past decade has been marked by rapid technological advancement, with many groundbreaking inventions changing the way we live and work. Of all the amazing inventions that have emerged in the past 10 years, 3D printing is by far my favorite. This technology allows for the creation of three-dimensional objects by layering materials on top of each other, based on a digital model. 3D printing has revolutionized the way we design, prototype, and manufacture products, making it a game-changer in many industries.
One of the key benefits of 3D printing is its ability to facilitate rapid prototyping and customization. This means that designers and engineers can quickly refine their designs, without having to wait for weeks or months for a traditional manufacturing process to produce a prototype. As a result, 3D printing has significantly accelerated the pace of innovation and product development in many industries.
As a student studying mechanical engineering in automotive design, I am particularly interested in the potential applications of 3D printing in this field. One of the most exciting aspects of 3D printing is its ability to create intricate, customized parts that can improve the performance and efficiency of vehicles. For example, 3D printing can be used to create lightweight, aerodynamic components that reduce drag and increase fuel efficiency. It can also be used to create complex parts that would be difficult or impossible to manufacture using traditional methods.
In addition to its potential to improve vehicle design, 3D printing also has the potential to significantly reduce waste in the manufacturing process. With 3D printing, only the exact amount of material needed to create a product is used, unlike traditional manufacturing processes that often result in significant waste. This waste reduction can have significant environmental benefits, making 3D printing a more sustainable manufacturing option.
As I look ahead to my future career as a mechanical engineer, I am excited about the potential of 3D printing to drive innovation in the automotive industry. Growing with Gabby Scholarship
One way in which I've grown over the past year is in my journey of self-discovery and self-love. I have overcome an eating disorder and discovered my passion for weightlifting. This journey has been challenging, but it has also been incredibly transformative and empowering.
I realized that my relationship with food and my body was not healthy and that I needed to make a change. I used to be so obsessed with being thin and fitting a certain mold, my self-worth was tied to the number on the scale, and the way I looked. In addition, I was constantly comparing myself to others, and I felt like I was never good enough. I was always unhappy with my body, and I was constantly criticizing myself. It was affecting my physical and mental health, and my relationships. I knew something had to change.
Through therapy, self-reflection, and support from loved ones, I was able to start the process of healing and learning to love myself. I learned how to challenge my negative thoughts and beliefs, and how to replace them with more positive and realistic ones. Also, how to accept my body for what it is, and how to appreciate it for what it can do. I understood how to listen to my body's hunger and fullness cues, and how to eat intuitively. I began to set boundaries, and say no to things that don't serve me. I practiced self-care and being kind to myself. It was not easy, but it was worth it.
What has changed for me is my mindset and attitude toward food, my body, and my self-worth. I now focus on nourishing my body and being strong. I realized that my body is not just a vessel, but it's also a tool. Physical strength is not just about lifting heavy weights, but also about having the mental strength to overcome obstacles and push through challenges. Weightlifting is not just about aesthetics, but also about empowerment. I started to enjoy the process of lifting, and how it made me feel. I even began to appreciate the changes that were happening to my body, and how it was becoming stronger, fitter, and healthier. I slowly saw the beauty in my imperfections, and in my progress. I slowly saw the beauty in myself.
What has remained the same is my commitment to self-care, self-love, and self-acceptance. I learned that self-love is not something that you can achieve overnight, but it's a lifelong journey, and I am committed to continuing to work on it. It is not about perfection, but about progress. It is not about being happy all the time, but about being okay with the sadness. Nor is confident all the time, but about being vulnerable. Self-love is not about being independent, but about being interdependent. Everyone is unique and I just needed to learn about myself and my needs.
Through this journey, I learned that self-discovery is not easy, but it's necessary for growth and healing. I learned that the key to loving myself is to be kind to myself and to be patient with myself. I'm incredibly proud of where I've come and I can't wait to see where the future leads me!

I also began practicing mindfulness and relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing and meditation, which helped me to become more aware of my thoughts and feelings and to manage them more effectively.
Another important step in overcoming my social anxiety was gradually exposing myself to the situations that triggered my anxiety. I started small, by going to a nearby coffee shop by myself, then slowly started making small talk with the baristas, then I moved on to meeting friends in small gatherings, and eventually, I was able to attend social events and even speak in public. This process helped me to learn that the feared outcomes that I imagined in my head were not as bad as I imagined, and that I was able to cope with social situations.
As I started to gain confidence in my ability to handle social situations, I also started to make new friends and build a support system of people who understood and could provide emotional support, encouragement, and understanding. This was a big step for me, as I had always been very introverted and had difficulty making friends.
Throughout this process, I have also learned the importance of self-compassion and self-acceptance. I've learned to be kind and understanding to myself when things don't go as planned, and to not be too hard on myself when I make mistakes. This has helped me to be more resilient and less critical of myself.
In conclusion, overcoming social anxiety is a challenging and ongoing process that requires a lot of hard work, determination, and support. I am proud to say that I have been able to overcome my social anxiety and have become more outgoing and confident. I have learned that the best way to overcome social anxiety is to confront the feared situations gradually, learning that the feared outcomes are not as bad as imagined, and to be kind and understanding to oneself. By always striving to improve myself, I believe that I will be well-equipped to handle any challenge that comes my way and achieve my goals as a successful mechanical engineer.
Dr. William and Jo Sherwood Family Scholarship
Obtaining a scholarship would be a crucial step in achieving my goal of becoming a mechanical engineering student at Kettering University. One of the main reasons that this would be so beneficial is because the cost of tuition and other expenses associated with attending college can be very high. As a mechanical engineering student, I would be required to take several specialized courses and labs that are necessary for my studies. These courses often have additional fees associated with them, which can add up quickly and make it difficult for students and their families to afford the cost of tuition. In addition to tuition, other expenses must be taken into consideration, such as housing, meals, and textbooks. These costs can be a significant burden for many students, and it can be challenging to afford them without some form of financial assistance.
In addition to the financial benefits, a scholarship would also provide me with the opportunity to be recognized for my hard work and dedication to my studies. It would be an honor to receive this recognition and it would motivate me to continue to strive for academic excellence.
A scholarship would provide much-needed financial support to help me cover these costs and allow me to focus on my studies without the added stress of financial concerns. By reducing my financial burden, a scholarship would enable me to fully engage in my studies and make the most of my time at Kettering University. I would be able to fully immerse myself in my coursework and not have to worry about how I was going to pay for my education, which would allow me to achieve my academic goals more effectively.
Furthermore, obtaining a scholarship would be an important accomplishment in and of itself. It would demonstrate to potential employers that I am a dedicated and capable student who is worthy of recognition and support. This could be a valuable asset as I begin my career and seek out job opportunities in the field of mechanical engineering. Employers would see that I have received this honor and it could give me an edge in the job market.
In conclusion, a scholarship would be an invaluable resource in helping me achieve my goal of becoming a mechanical engineering student at Kettering University. It would provide financial support to cover the high costs of tuition and other expenses, and it would be a recognition of my dedication and abilities as a student. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to apply for a scholarship and hope to be considered a worthy recipient.
James A Cook Memorial Scholarship
As a student, I have always strived to be a leader in my school and community by putting the needs of others first. One way I do this is by practicing servant leadership, which involves understanding the perspectives of my peers and showing empathy for their well-being.
Servant leadership is a leadership philosophy in which the leader's primary focus is on the growth and well-being of the people they lead. A servant leader works to empower their team and help them develop their skills and abilities, rather than focusing solely on achieving their own goals. In my experience, this approach has been extremely effective in building strong and collaborative relationships with my peers.
One key aspect of servant leadership is the ability to listen actively and seek to understand others' perspectives. In my daily interactions with my peers, I make a conscious effort to listen carefully to what they have to say and try to see things from their point of view. This helps me to be more empathetic and supportive, as I can better understand the challenges and struggles they may be facing. For example, if a classmate is struggling with a difficult assignment, I might ask them more about what they are finding challenging and try to identify specific areas where I can help. By actively listening and seeking to understand, I am able to provide more targeted and effective support to my peers.
In addition to actively listening, I also try to show empathy and concern for the well-being of my peers. I believe that everyone has their own unique set of strengths and weaknesses, and it is important to recognize and support each other in our individual journeys. This can be as simple as offering words of encouragement when someone is feeling down or stressed, or it could involve offering more tangible forms of support, such as helping them study for an exam or working on a project together. By showing empathy and offering support, I hope to create a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported.
The impact of these actions on those around me has been very positive. By showing my peers that I care about their well-being and am willing to help them, I have fostered a sense of trust and respect. This has helped to create a more collaborative and supportive learning environment, where everyone feels comfortable contributing and participating. My peers have also responded well to my efforts to understand their perspectives and offer support, and I have received positive feedback from both classmates and teachers for my leadership style.
In conclusion, practicing servant leadership has helped me to be a more effective leader in my school and community. By understanding the perspectives of my peers and showing empathy for their well-being, I have been able to create a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported. These actions have had a positive impact on those around me, and I believe that they are an important part of being a successful and compassionate leader. As I continue to grow and develop as a leader, I will continue to practice servant leadership and strive to create positive and supportive environments for those around me.
