Wrestling has been one of the most challenging and rewarding parts of my high school experience. It’s a sport that demands discipline, mental toughness, and heart—things that I’ve developed through early morning practices, cutting weight, and pushing myself even when I felt like giving up. I wasn’t the most naturally gifted athlete when I started, but wrestling taught me how to grow through hard work. That mindset has carried over into every other aspect of my life—from the classroom to student leadership to my future goals.
In college, I plan to major in business administration. What draws me to business isn’t just the financial side—it’s the idea of using leadership and creativity to make a positive difference. I hope to one day start a business or work in consulting, focusing on projects that support underserved communities and tackle issues such as affordable housing and economic opportunity. This goal comes from my experiences volunteering and working with nonprofits, including a summer I spent at Camp Daley, a sleepaway camp in Calabasas that serves disadvantaged youth. I worked in the kitchen and helped with weekend events, but more importantly, I got to be part of something bigger—giving kids a safe space where they could just be kids.
Throughout high school, I’ve taken on leadership roles that helped me grow as a person. I’m the President of the Crespi Business Bureau, where I help plan events that expose students to real-world business skills. I’ve served all four years in student government (ASB), acted as a school ambassador and Zelo Leader for freshmen, and led our Sports Medicine Club. Balancing those responsibilities with sports like football and wrestling hasn’t been easy, but I’ve learned to manage my time and be fully present in each role.
Wrestling is unique in how much it pushes you to take personal responsibility. You can’t blame anyone else when you’re out on the mat—win or lose, it’s all on you. That has shaped the way I approach setbacks in life. Whether it’s a tough loss or a personal challenge, I’ve learned to reflect, adapt, and keep moving forward. I know that’s something Coach Brian Shaw believed in and passed on to his students. From what I’ve heard, he was the kind of coach who inspired people and made a real impact. I want to honor that legacy not just by wrestling, but by being the kind of person who lifts others and gives back.
I’m grateful for everything wrestling has given me, and I want to carry that drive into college and beyond. This scholarship would not only help me pursue my educational goals, but it would also remind me of the kind of leader and person I strive to be—someone like Coach Shaw, who made a difference in people’s lives.
Gabriel Martin Memorial Annual Scholarship
Living with allergies has shaped my daily experiences in ways that many people take for granted. From a young age, I had to be hyper-aware of my environment, always checking ingredient labels, monitoring seasonal changes, and carrying medication just in case of a reaction. While this might seem like a minor inconvenience to some, it has influenced my perspective on health, responsibility, and resilience.
One of the biggest challenges has been the unpredictability of allergic reactions. Whether it’s food allergies, environmental triggers, or seasonal sensitivities, I’ve had to develop strong self-awareness and adaptability. Social situations, such as eating at restaurants or attending school events, required careful planning and occasional awkward conversations about ingredients and cross-contamination. While it was frustrating at times, these experiences taught me to advocate for myself, ask the right questions, and take proactive measures to ensure my well-being.
Allergies have also impacted my physical well-being, sometimes affecting my ability to fully participate in outdoor activities or sports. When pollen counts were high, I had to modify my exercise routines or take extra precautions to prevent flare-ups. Despite these setbacks, I never let my allergies define me or limit my potential. Instead, they fueled my determination to stay active and find ways to manage my condition without sacrificing the things I love.
More importantly, dealing with allergies has made me deeply aware of broader issues related to health, access to care, and public safety. I’ve seen firsthand how something as simple as an unlabeled food product or a lack of awareness can put individuals at risk. This has sparked my interest in urban planning and economics, particularly in creating safer, more inclusive environments for those with medical conditions. Whether it’s advocating for better labeling policies, improving air quality in urban areas, or ensuring that public spaces are accessible to individuals with allergies and respiratory conditions, I want to contribute to solutions that prioritize public health.
Looking ahead, I aim to combine my passion for business, urban planning, and social impact to address systemic issues, including affordable healthcare access and sustainable city development. My experience managing allergies has given me a unique perspective on the intersection of personal health and community infrastructure. I hope to leverage this awareness to contribute to policies and innovations that improve quality of life for individuals with medical conditions.
Ultimately, my allergies have taught me responsibility, resilience, and the importance of proactive problem-solving. While they have posed challenges, they have also shaped my mindset and motivated me to pursue a future where I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Valerie Rabb Academic Scholarship
Throughout my life, I have been driven by a passion for leadership, service, and making a tangible impact on the world. My interest in business administration stems from its versatility and potential to create meaningful change, especially in areas like urban planning and economic development. I want to address major societal challenges such as homelessness, gentrification, and housing affordability by developing sustainable and equitable solutions that benefit communities. My goal is to blend business strategy with social impact, ensuring that economic growth does not come at the cost of displacing vulnerable populations.
One of the most defining experiences that shaped my perspective was my work at Camp Daley, a sleepaway camp for disadvantaged youth. There, I saw firsthand how access to resources and opportunities could shape a child’s future. Many of the kids came from underserved communities, facing struggles that I could only imagine. My time there reinforced my belief that everyone deserves a fair shot at success, and I want to use my career to create opportunities for those who need them most.
Adversity has played a crucial role in shaping who I am today. The transition from middle school to high school was a challenging period, as I had to navigate new academic and social environments while stepping into leadership roles. Balancing sports, academics, and extracurricular commitments often felt overwhelming, but I refused to let these challenges define me. Wrestling, in particular, taught me how to push through discomfort, embrace setbacks, and develop resilience. Every loss on the mat was a lesson, and I learned that perseverance is the key to overcoming obstacles.
These experiences have influenced my approach to adversity beyond athletics. Whether in student government, founding the Crespi Business Bureau, or taking on leadership roles in clubs, I have learned to embrace challenges rather than avoid them. Instead of seeing failures as roadblocks, I view them as opportunities to grow. This mindset will carry over into my future career, where I will face complex economic and social challenges. Just as wrestling taught me to fight through exhaustion and setbacks, I am prepared to tackle real-world issues with the same level of determination and problem-solving.
Looking ahead, I see myself using business and urban planning to bridge the gap between economic growth and social equity. Whether through sustainable development, affordable housing initiatives, or entrepreneurship, I want to create solutions that uplift communities rather than push them aside. My experiences have given me the resilience, leadership, and vision necessary to make a lasting impact.
At my core, I believe that true success is measured by the positive influence we have on others. I am excited to take the lessons I have learned—both from adversity and leadership—and apply them to a future that creates meaningful change in the world.
Blair Harrison Meek Rising Star Wrestling Scholarship
Wrestling has completely changed the way I view adversity. Before I started competing, I saw challenges as obstacles—things that stood in my way and needed to be avoided or worked around. But wrestling has taught me that adversity isn’t something to fear; it’s something to embrace. The sport has pushed me beyond my limits, forcing me to confront struggles head-on, whether in practice, during a match, or in everyday life. I’ve learned that the hardest battles aren’t always physical but mental, and success isn’t just about strength or skill—it’s about resilience.
One of the biggest lessons wrestling has taught me is that failure is not the end but a stepping stone. Early on, I struggled with losses, feeling like they defined me as an athlete. But over time, I realized that each loss was an opportunity to learn. Every mistake showed me where I needed to improve, and every tough match made me stronger. Wrestling forced me to push through exhaustion, pain, and frustration, teaching me that perseverance is the key to overcoming any challenge.
This mindset has shaped how I approach adversity in all aspects of my life. When I face setbacks in school, leadership roles, or personal challenges, I no longer see them as roadblocks. Instead, I view them as tests of character. Wrestling has conditioned me to keep moving forward, even when things don’t go my way. It has given me confidence in my ability to adapt, improve, and find solutions rather than dwell on problems. It has also helped me by showing me that wrestling is the most strenuous activity I will ever participate in which makes every other activity much easier.
Looking ahead, this perspective will play a huge role in my future. Whether in college, my career, or life in general, I know I’ll face difficulties. But thanks to wrestling, I’m not afraid of them. I want to pursue business administration and make a meaningful impact, possibly in urban planning or economic development, where I can help solve real-world problems like housing affordability and homelessness. These are complex issues that require patience, persistence, and the ability to learn from failures, just like wrestling has taught me.
At the end of the day, wrestling isn’t just about winning or losing. It’s about growth, discipline, and the willingness to fight through adversity. That lesson will stay with me far beyond the mat, shaping the way I approach every challenge and every opportunity in the future.
A Security Insurance Agency Scholarship
In recent years, states like Florida, California, and Texas have faced a major insurance crisis due to natural disasters like hurricanes, floods, and wildfires. Because of the high risk involved, many insurance companies have decided to leave these states, making it harder for people to find affordable homeowners’ insurance. As a result, premiums have skyrocketed, leaving many homeowners—especially retirees and single parents—struggling to afford coverage. This situation is unfair, as people need insurance to protect their homes, but the rising costs make it nearly impossible for some families to keep up.
A potential solution to this crisis is the creation of a state-backed insurance program that works alongside private insurance companies. This program could function similarly to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), where the government provides partial coverage for high-risk homes, reducing the financial burden on private insurers. If the state takes on some of the risk, insurance companies may be more willing to stay in these areas, keeping premiums at a more affordable level for homeowners. At the same time, this approach ensures that people in disaster-prone states can still get the coverage they need.
Another possible solution is for the government to offer tax incentives to insurance companies that continue operating in high-risk states. By reducing their financial burden, the government can encourage these companies to remain in places like Florida, California, and Texas instead of leaving due to extreme losses. This would help balance the needs of both homeowners and insurers, making insurance more accessible while still allowing companies to stay profitable.
Additionally, homeowners should have more access to mitigation programs that help them strengthen their homes against natural disasters. Insurance agencies and the government could work together to offer grants or low-interest loans for homeowners to make improvements, such as reinforcing roofs, installing fire-resistant materials, or raising homes in flood-prone areas. If more homes are built to withstand disasters, insurance claims will decrease, making it less risky for insurance companies to provide coverage in these states.
Insurance agencies also play a big role in addressing this crisis. They can help homeowners find alternative coverage options, educate them on risk reduction strategies, and advocate for policies that support both the insured and the insurers. By working with customers to find the best possible coverage and pushing for industry reforms, insurance agencies can help make insurance more sustainable in disaster-prone states.
Overall, the insurance crisis in states like Florida, California, and Texas is a complex issue that needs a balanced solution. By combining government support, tax incentives, mitigation efforts, and assistance from insurance agencies, we can create a system that works for everyone. Homeowners will get the coverage they need at an affordable price, while insurance companies will have the financial security to keep operating in these high-risk areas. Finding this balance is crucial to ensuring that insurance remains accessible and fair for all.
Resilient Scholar Award
I was raised in a single-parent household, where my mother served as both a provider and a guide. Growing up, I learned early on that the dynamics of our family required a different kind of resilience. My mother worked tirelessly to make sure that I and my siblings had everything we needed, often sacrificing her own comfort to ensure our well-being. While I faced the challenges of growing up without a father figure in the home, I quickly learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and self-sufficiency. From an early age, I saw firsthand the strength it takes to overcome obstacles and make things work in the face of adversity.
My upbringing in a single-parent household has deeply shaped my perspective on life. It taught me the importance of responsibility, independence, and empathy, all while giving me a profound appreciation for the sacrifices my mother made to ensure our success. It also made me more aware of how fragile family dynamics can be, and how crucial it is to create a supportive and loving environment for those around you. I learned not only to value my relationship with my mother but also to understand the broader impact of what a single parent can do for their children, even in difficult circumstances. These experiences continue to motivate me in my personal and professional aspirations, particularly my desire to give back to others and to advocate for social causes that can help those facing similar challenges.
One particular event that led to a new understanding of myself and others occurred when I volunteered at a summer camp for disadvantaged youth. Working with children from backgrounds similar to mine, I was struck by how much they longed for a positive role model, someone to look up to and guide them through the complexities of life. I realized that, much like my mother had been for me, I could serve as a mentor, providing support, encouragement, and guidance to help these kids see their own potential. This experience helped me understand the power of empathy and the importance of stepping into others’ shoes, especially when they are going through difficult times. It also reinforced my belief in the value of community and how much we can learn from supporting one another.
That realization inspired me to take on leadership roles in my school and extracurricular activities, always striving to be a positive influence and someone others could rely on. My upbringing in a single-parent home gave me the foundation for this, teaching me that no matter the circumstances, with hard work, perseverance, and a little guidance, we can all rise above and achieve great things.

Selected Paragraph:
From The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene, Law 3: "Conceal Your Intentions"
"Keep people off-balance and in the dark by never revealing the purpose behind your actions. If they have no idea what you are up to, they cannot prepare a defense. Guide them far enough down the wrong path, envelop them in a fog of confusion, and when they are at their most vulnerable, strike."
Essay:
In this passage, Robert Greene emphasizes a key strategy in the acquisition and maintenance of power: the deliberate concealment of one’s intentions. This law, at its core, is about gaining the upper hand by maintaining secrecy and keeping others uncertain about one’s true motives. Greene’s argument is that by obscuring your plans, you prevent others from anticipating your moves and, in turn, neutralize their ability to counteract or prepare for them. The underlying message is that in the realm of power dynamics, knowledge is not just power—it is control. When others are left in the dark about your intentions, they are vulnerable and unable to protect themselves from your influence.
The importance of secrecy, according to Greene, is rooted in the unpredictability it creates. If your true purpose is not known, people cannot form strategies to thwart you. They are forced to react to a situation they do not fully understand, which inherently puts them at a disadvantage. The metaphor of "guiding them down the wrong path" and "enveloping them in a fog of confusion" speaks to the psychological manipulation that can occur when individuals are misled into false beliefs or assumptions. This strategy relies on the ability to misdirect, to create distractions, and to control the narrative in ways that disarm potential opposition. By keeping people unsure, you ensure that they are not only unable to predict your actions but also reluctant to act because they are unsure of your true intent.
Greene’s approach echoes the tactics used by political and business leaders throughout history who have employed deception, ambiguity, and psychological warfare to gain advantages over their rivals. In these situations, power does not come from direct confrontation but rather from strategic positioning and the ability to influence the perceptions of others. This is a deliberate form of control—where the emphasis is not on brute strength or open aggression but on manipulating the mental landscape of those around you.
However, it is essential to consider the ethical implications of this law. Greene’s advice raises important questions about the morality of using deception and misdirection to achieve personal gain. While the law itself may be effective in achieving success in a competitive environment, it also risks creating an atmosphere of distrust and manipulation. In the long term, relying on concealment and confusion can erode relationships and create an environment where others are always on guard, potentially fostering a cycle of mistrust. This highlights the tension between the pursuit of power and the maintenance of integrity in personal and professional relationships.
In the broader context, Law 3 also speaks to the nature of strategic thinking in competitive environments, whether in business, politics, or personal life. It suggests that success often requires an element of psychological control, where you shape how others perceive you and your intentions. The ability to control what others know and believe is powerful, and by doing so, you can dictate the course of interactions to your benefit. This law, therefore, teaches the value of restraint and the power of silence in the face of competition.
In conclusion, Robert Greene’s Law 3, "Conceal Your Intentions," offers a strategic approach to gaining and maintaining power by keeping others in the dark and preventing them from anticipating your actions. While this approach can be effective in maintaining control and neutralizing threats, it also raises ethical questions about the use of manipulation and deception in human interactions. The law serves as a reminder that in power dynamics, perception is often as important as reality, and the ability to manage what others know can be a key factor in achieving success. Yet, it is important to balance strategic manipulation with ethical considerations to avoid the negative consequences that come with deception in the long run.

A defining moment in my life that tested my physical and emotional resilience occurred during my sophomore year. I was balancing an intense academic schedule, extracurricular responsibilities, and a part-time internship. The pressure began to mount, and I found myself physically drained and emotionally exhausted. I began to struggle with motivation and, for the first time, questioned my ability to keep up with my responsibilities. It was a difficult time, but I realized I needed to take a step back and reassess my priorities. I reached out to a mentor who guided me on how to manage stress and practice self-care. I learned to delegate tasks, set realistic goals, and take breaks to recharge. Slowly, I regained my focus and strength. By leaning on my support system, adjusting my mindset, and practicing better time management, I overcame that period of weakness.
This experience taught me that overcoming challenges isn’t about pushing through at all costs, but about finding balance and learning when to ask for help. It reinforced my belief in the importance of resilience and self-awareness—qualities that I will carry with me into both my academic journey and professional career. Angelia Zeigler Gibbs Book Scholarship
One personal experience that greatly influenced my decision to pursue business administration was my time spent working at Camp Daley, a sleepaway camp for disadvantaged youth. The camp, run by the Salvation Army, served primarily inner-city Latino and African American children, many of whom faced significant challenges in their lives. My role involved kitchen work, assisting in meal preparation, organizing supplies, and sometimes helping out on weekends for special events. While the work was physically demanding, it gave me the opportunity to witness firsthand the profound impact that organized, community-driven efforts can have on individuals who are often overlooked by society.
During my time at the camp, I realized how much leadership, strategic planning, and community resources contributed to the success of the program. I saw how the staff worked together to ensure every camper had the chance to experience a safe and supportive environment. This sparked a desire in me to use my skills to create sustainable, community-oriented business solutions that address social issues like poverty and access to opportunity.
What stood out most to me was the camp's focus on providing equitable opportunities for children who might not otherwise have access to enriching experiences. It made me reflect on how business and entrepreneurship could be a powerful tool in solving societal challenges. I want to combine my interest in business with my passion for philanthropy, and I believe that a degree in business administration will equip me with the knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in communities like the one I served.
This experience at Camp Daley cemented my desire to pursue a career that blends business leadership with social responsibility, and it has driven my decision to study business administration as a way to turn my ideas into actionable change.
Big Picture Scholarship
The movie Step Brothers has had a surprisingly significant impact on my life, even though it might not seem like the most obvious choice. At its core, Step Brothers is a comedy about two middle-aged men, Brennan and Dale, who are forced to live together when their parents marry. They struggle with maturity, their egos, and the challenges of becoming a family, all while engaging in hilariously outrageous antics. However, beneath the surface, the film offers valuable lessons about self-acceptance, perseverance, and the importance of finding one’s path, which have resonated deeply with me.
The primary takeaway from Step Brothers is the idea of embracing who you are, regardless of societal expectations. Brennan and Dale are both stuck in a state of arrested development, and their journey toward growth involves them learning to accept their quirks and flaws. In many ways, this theme of self-acceptance has influenced me, especially during the turbulent years of high school, when I was figuring out who I wanted to be. The movie teaches that it’s okay to take your time in finding your direction in life, and there’s no need to conform to the expectations set by others. This message gave me confidence to pursue my passions, such as business and leadership, without feeling pressured to follow a specific path.
Another major lesson from Step Brothers is the importance of perseverance and not giving up in the face of setbacks. Throughout the movie, Brennan and Dale go through countless failures—whether it's their attempts at building a business, bonding with their new family, or pursuing their dreams. However, despite the many failures and awkward situations, they never give up. Their ability to stay resilient, even when things seem hopeless, has inspired me to maintain a positive outlook when facing challenges. Whether it’s academic pressure, leadership responsibilities, or balancing my extracurricular activities, the perseverance shown by the characters reminds me that failure is just a part of the process, and success often comes after multiple attempts and lessons learned.
The film also highlights the importance of collaboration and finding common ground. Initially, Brennan and Dale are complete opposites, constantly at odds with each other. Over time, however, they learn to put their differences aside and work together, ultimately achieving success in their own unique way. This resonated with me during my time as a leader in various school clubs. Whether in the Crespi Business Bureau, sports medicine club, or student government, I’ve had to work alongside people with different ideas and personalities. The idea that collaboration can lead to growth and success has been pivotal in my ability to lead teams and navigate complex group dynamics.
Lastly, Step Brothers reminds me not to take life too seriously. Although the characters engage in absurd behaviors, the film’s humor and lightheartedness encourage me to approach life with a sense of humor. High school can often feel overwhelming, and it’s easy to get caught up in the pressure to succeed or meet expectations. Step Brothers taught me the importance of laughter, taking breaks, and not being afraid to enjoy the journey—no matter how messy or chaotic it might be.
In conclusion, Step Brothers has had a significant impact on my life because of its messages about self-acceptance, perseverance, collaboration, and maintaining a sense of humor. Although it is primarily a comedy, the lessons it conveys have shaped how I approach challenges and personal growth, and have helped me embrace my individuality while striving to improve and contribute positively to my community.

In summary, my choice to pursue business administration stems from a deep-rooted desire to lead, innovate, and make a difference. I am drawn to entrepreneurship because of its potential to bring about meaningful change, and I believe my drive, resilience, and passion for learning will make me successful in this field. A successful life, to me, is about using one's abilities to foster positive change and create a lasting impact in the world.

Growing up in a single-parent household has shaped me in ways I never expected. It has taught me the value of perseverance, responsibility, and the importance of having a strong support system. Watching my parent juggle multiple responsibilities—working hard to provide for our family while still being there for me—showed me what resilience looks like. It wasn’t always easy, but these experiences have given me a deep sense of independence and drive, pushing me to work hard in everything I do, from academics to leadership roles in school.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from growing up in a single-parent household is the power of adaptability. I’ve had to step up in ways that many of my peers haven’t, whether that meant managing my own schedule, taking on extra responsibilities at home, or making mature decisions at an early age. These challenges have helped me develop problem-solving skills and a strong work ethic that I carry into my academics, athletics, and leadership roles. I know that life doesn’t always go as planned, but my experiences have taught me that with determination and the right mindset, I can overcome any obstacle.
Looking ahead, I want to use my talents and experiences to make a difference in people’s lives. While I may not know exactly what career I’ll pursue, I know that whatever path I take, helping others will be at the center of it. My experiences have made me deeply passionate about economic stability, education, and mental health—three things that I’ve seen firsthand can impact a person’s future. Whether it’s through business, public policy, or community work, I want to create opportunities for others, just like the opportunities I’ve been given.
One of my biggest goals is to help people—especially young individuals—who face financial or personal hardships. I understand how difficult it can be to navigate life without a strong financial foundation, and I want to find ways to empower others through financial literacy, mentorship, or support systems that provide resources to those in need. I believe that everyone, no matter their background, deserves a fair chance at success.
Beyond my career aspirations, I want to set an example for others who have grown up in similar circumstances. I want to prove that where you come from doesn’t define where you’re going. My experiences have fueled my ambition, and I am committed to making the most of every opportunity so that one day, I can give back and uplift others. No matter what career I choose, I know that my resilience, leadership, and passion for helping people will guide me toward making a meaningful impact in the world.

Mental health has played a significant role in shaping my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. As a student-athlete, I have experienced firsthand the mental challenges that come with balancing academics, athletics, and leadership responsibilities. Through these experiences, I have grown to understand the importance of mental resilience, emotional intelligence, and the need for proper mental health support, especially for athletes. This understanding has fueled my desire to study both economics and psychology in college, as I believe these two fields are deeply connected in shaping societal well-being.
Football has been one of the most influential aspects of my life, teaching me discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. However, it has also exposed me to the pressures that athletes face, from performance anxiety to the struggles of maintaining mental toughness. I have seen how mental health impacts not just individual athletes but entire teams—confidence, focus, and emotional stability can determine success on and off the field. I want to use my platform as an athlete to advocate for mental health awareness in sports, ensuring that players at all levels receive the support they need to thrive.
Beyond sports, I am passionate about studying economics and psychology because I see them as key to understanding how people think, make decisions, and interact with financial systems. Economic stress is a major factor in mental health issues, affecting individuals, families, and entire communities. By studying both disciplines, I aim to develop solutions that promote financial stability while prioritizing mental well-being. Whether it’s addressing the psychological effects of financial insecurity or advocating for workplace policies that support mental health, I want to bridge the gap between these two fields to create meaningful change.
In the future, I hope to make a positive impact by integrating mental health awareness into business and policy-making. Whether through advocating for mental health programs in athletics, researching the psychological effects of economic policies, or developing financial literacy programs that reduce stress, I want to help individuals lead healthier, more stable lives. Mental health should not be an afterthought—it is just as important as physical health and financial security.
Through football, academics, and leadership, I have developed a deep appreciation for the role mental health plays in success and happiness. My experiences have taught me the value of resilience, the importance of seeking help when needed, and the power of advocating for others. As I pursue a career that combines economics, psychology, and athletics, I am committed to using my knowledge and experiences to break down mental health stigmas and build a society where mental well-being is a priority for all.

Throughout my high school years, one teacher has had a profound impact on me—Mr. Santoro, my honors English teacher during my sophomore year. He didn’t just teach me how to write better essays or analyze literature; he taught me important life lessons about leadership, dedication, and the value of pursuing your ambitions with integrity.
When I first walked into Mr. Santoro’s class, I didn’t expect the class to become such a transformative experience. I had always been a strong student, but what Mr. Santoro showed me was how to channel my passion for learning into something more meaningful. His classroom wasn’t just a space to complete assignments; it was a place where ideas were challenged, discussions were encouraged, and hard work was expected. From the start, he recognized my drive and encouraged me to go beyond the minimum. He didn’t just give me the answers—I had to think critically, push myself, and solve problems on my own. This challenge was exactly what I needed.
What truly set Mr. Santoro apart was his leadership style. He led by example, not by authority. He always worked with us, not above us, and that was what inspired me most. I watched as he took time out of his day to explain concepts to students who needed help. His patience and dedication made a lasting impression on me. He would often make himself available after class to help students, and it was in those moments that I learned the value of giving back. I saw how his commitment to his students wasn’t just about teaching a subject—it was about helping them grow into better individuals. This was something I wanted to embody as well.
Beyond his academic instruction, Mr. Santoro showed me what it means to be a true leader. He didn’t expect anything less than my best effort, but he also provided me with the tools and support to succeed. He gave me opportunities to take initiative, whether that was helping other students or leading discussions. His confidence in my abilities made me believe in myself, and that’s when I started to truly realize my potential.
Mr. Santoro’s influence extends beyond the classroom, too. He showed me that leadership isn’t about titles or recognition—it's about impacting others and doing what’s right. His support pushed me to become more involved in extracurricular activities, and I found myself taking on leadership roles in clubs and volunteering in my community. I’ve since taken on positions like Vice President of the National Honor Society for Sports Medicine and President of the Sports Medicine Club, and I always remind myself of the lessons Mr. Santoro taught me: lead with humility, serve others, and always aim to improve.
In my life moving forward, I know that the values Mr. Santoro instilled in me will continue to guide me. He taught me how to be resilient, how to lead by example, and most importantly, how to remain true to my values and ambitions. His belief in my potential continues to fuel my drive to succeed, and I am forever grateful for the way he shaped my high school experience.
Looking back, I realize that Mr. Santoro was more than just a teacher—he was a mentor and role model who has profoundly influenced how I approach my life and my future. He’s the kind of educator who goes beyond preparing students for exams; he prepares them for life.

Music has played a significant role in my life throughout my high school years, providing me with a sense of identity, emotional expression, and connection to others. From the first time I picked up an instrument to the countless hours spent listening to different genres, music has been a source of comfort, motivation, and reflection. It has shaped my experiences and helped me navigate both the highs and lows of my journey through high school.
One of the ways music has impacted me is by helping me cope with stress. High school can be overwhelming at times with academics, extracurricular activities, and personal challenges. When I felt anxious or drained, I would often turn to music to clear my mind. Whether it was listening to calming instrumental pieces or energetic rock songs, music had the ability to shift my mood and give me a sense of release. The rhythms and melodies acted as a form of therapy, allowing me to process my feelings and gain a new perspective.
Beyond providing emotional relief, music has also been a powerful motivator. During long nights of studying or preparing for tests, I’ve relied on certain playlists or songs to help me focus and stay energized. The rhythm of music kept me moving forward when I felt like giving up. It reminded me to stay persistent, and in many ways, it served as a soundtrack to my academic and personal achievements. Music has taught me that perseverance is key, and sometimes, the right song can be the push I need to keep going.
In addition to its emotional and motivational influence, music has connected me to others. I’ve been fortunate to be part of a school band, and through that experience, I’ve forged lasting friendships with fellow musicians. Music has allowed me to collaborate with others, express myself creatively, and become part of something bigger than myself. It has helped me communicate in ways that words alone sometimes cannot. Being part of a musical ensemble taught me the value of teamwork and how each individual’s contribution plays an important role in creating something beautiful.
Furthermore, music has helped me explore different cultures and broaden my understanding of the world. Throughout high school, I’ve become interested in a variety of music genres—from classical to hip-hop to world music. Exploring new sounds and learning about the cultural contexts behind the music has deepened my appreciation for diversity and the power of art to unite people. It’s also given me a way to reflect on my own identity and the way I relate to the world around me.
Overall, music has been a constant companion during my high school years, offering me comfort, motivation, connection, and a deeper understanding of myself and the world. It has shaped my personal growth, helped me build relationships, and provided a creative outlet for self-expression. As I move forward into college and beyond, I know that music will continue to be an integral part of my life, guiding me through new experiences and challenges. Whether through listening, creating, or performing, I will always carry the lessons and emotions that music has brought me throughout these formative years.
Ryan Stripling “Words Create Worlds” Scholarship for Young Writers
Writing has always been a passion of mine, and it is a form of expression that allows me to communicate my thoughts, ideas, and emotions in a meaningful way. Whether it’s crafting essays, telling stories, or reflecting on my experiences, writing has been my way of making sense of the world around me. What I love most about writing is its power to create connection. A well-written piece can inspire others, spark change, or simply offer someone a moment of reflection. The ability to use words to impact others is something that continues to motivate me as a writer.
Writing has been an integral part of my academic journey, whether in English essays, history reports, or even creative writing projects. It provides a platform to organize complex ideas, analyze texts, and construct narratives that make sense of our experiences. I enjoy the process of brainstorming, drafting, and revising, as each stage allows me to dig deeper into the subject matter and refine my thoughts. Writing challenges me to think critically and express myself clearly, all while learning how to present my voice in a way that resonates with readers.
As I look ahead to college, I am excited to continue developing my writing skills and exploring new forms of writing. I plan to engage in writing-intensive courses, such as literature, history, and even urban planning, where I can incorporate research, critical analysis, and storytelling into my work. I am particularly excited about continuing my creative writing and honing my ability to craft compelling narratives. Whether in the form of short stories, essays, or even journalistic pieces, I want to keep writing as a way to explore new ideas and perspectives.
Beyond academic writing, I also look forward to writing in extracurricular spaces. I’ve been involved in school publications and podcasts, and I plan to continue contributing to campus media outlets, whether it’s through writing articles, creating content, or collaborating on creative projects. I believe that writing for a community or platform can foster a sense of belonging and allow me to share ideas with others who have similar interests.
In addition to formal and extracurricular writing, I want to make time for personal writing, whether in the form of journaling, blogging, or storytelling. Writing for myself helps me process my experiences and reflect on my personal growth. I also hope to explore the intersection of writing and technology by working with digital media and social platforms, creating content that combines my passion for writing with the opportunities technology provides.
Ultimately, I plan to make writing a core part of my college experience by continuing to explore, learn, and grow as a writer. Whether through academic assignments, creative projects, or personal reflection, writing will remain an essential part of my life as I navigate my college years and beyond. Writing is not just a skill—it’s a passion that I will carry with me throughout my journey, allowing me to communicate, learn, and inspire others along the way.
BIPOC Urban Innovators Scholarship
Growing up, I was always drawn to understanding how cities function and how they impact the lives of the people who live in them. As I learned more about urban planning and economics, I became deeply interested in issues such as homelessness, gentrification, affordable housing, and sustainability. These challenges are not just abstract problems; they affect millions of people every day, especially in rapidly growing cities. My desire to make a difference in these areas led me to pursue a career in urban planning and economics, where I can help create more equitable, sustainable, and livable urban spaces for all.
My background has shaped my perspective on these issues. I have seen firsthand how gentrification can drive up housing costs, pushing out long-time residents and disrupting communities. I have also witnessed the struggles of those experiencing homelessness and the inadequate resources available to help them. These experiences have motivated me to focus on policies that can make cities more inclusive and affordable, where everyone, regardless of their economic background, has access to quality housing and a stable community.
Through my academic studies and involvement in community service, I have gained valuable experiences that have prepared me for this field. I have volunteered with local organizations that provide support to people experiencing homelessness, where I helped with resource distribution, organized awareness events, and worked to understand the root causes of homelessness. These experiences taught me how complex and multifaceted the issue is, requiring solutions that address not just the immediate needs of individuals but also the systemic barriers that contribute to homelessness, such as lack of affordable housing and income inequality.
I have also participated in urban planning-related projects through school and internships, where I gained insight into how policy, zoning laws, and infrastructure planning can shape a city’s development. In particular, I have worked on projects that explore how cities can balance growth with sustainability, making sure new development doesn’t come at the expense of the environment or the most vulnerable populations. This includes researching and advocating for policies that promote affordable housing, like inclusionary zoning, rent control, and public housing development.
I am passionate about urban planning and economics because I believe that cities should work for everyone, not just those with the most resources. Housing is a basic human right, and no one should be pushed out of their homes due to rising rents or be forced to live on the streets. Sustainable, affordable housing and responsible urban growth are essential for the well-being of future generations. I am committed to finding ways to make cities more inclusive and sustainable by working with policymakers, developers, and community members to address these pressing issues.
Ultimately, my goal is to become a leader in urban planning and economics, using my skills to combat homelessness, fight gentrification, promote affordable housing, and ensure that urban development contributes to a sustainable future. I am driven by a deep sense of responsibility to make a positive impact on the communities that need it the most, and I am excited to use my education and experiences to create a more equitable and sustainable urban environment for all.

One of the most challenging moments in my life came during my sophomore year of high school when I faced a personal setback that left me questioning myself and my abilities. I was juggling a heavy academic load, extracurricular activities, and leadership responsibilities, and the pressure began to take a toll. In the midst of everything, I also experienced a family crisis that made it even harder to stay focused. I found myself overwhelmed and struggling to keep up with everything I had committed to.
During this difficult time, I turned to my faith for strength and guidance. I’ve always believed that faith provides a source of inner peace and clarity, but it wasn’t until I found myself in this tough spot that I truly understood the power of relying on it. I remember feeling lost and exhausted, unsure of how I would make it through. That’s when I started to spend more time in prayer, asking for patience, wisdom, and the strength to carry on.
In those quiet moments of reflection, I realized that my faith wasn’t just about praying for things to get better; it was about trusting that I had the strength to handle the challenges I was facing. I found comfort in the idea that difficulties are not permanent and that every challenge is an opportunity for growth. My faith reminded me that it was okay to ask for help and that I didn’t have to do everything on my own. I reached out to friends, family, and teachers for support, and I began to prioritize my mental and emotional well-being.
One specific verse that gave me comfort during this time was Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." This verse became my mantra. I repeated it to myself whenever I felt like giving up. It reminded me that, through my faith, I could overcome anything that came my way. Slowly, I began to regain my sense of balance and confidence. I learned how to manage my time more effectively and became more resilient in the face of adversity.
Looking back, I realize that this experience was a turning point in my life. I not only came through the challenge stronger but also learned the importance of relying on faith when life gets overwhelming. My faith helped me stay grounded and reminded me that challenges are part of life’s journey, but they don’t define who I am or limit what I can achieve. I learned that faith gives me the strength to persevere and the clarity to see that every setback can lead to a greater purpose.
Since then, I’ve faced other obstacles, but I always try to remember the lessons I learned during that difficult time. My faith continues to be my foundation, guiding me through tough situations and helping me stay focused on the bigger picture. It’s not always easy, but I now know that with faith, patience, and perseverance, I can overcome whatever comes my way.

In recent years, there has been a lot of tension between law enforcement and the African American community, with incidents of police brutality and racial profiling making headlines. These tensions have led to protests and calls for change. To improve the relationship between law enforcement and African Americans, agencies need to focus on transparency, accountability, community engagement, education, and diversity. By making changes in these areas, police can start rebuilding trust and creating stronger connections with African American communities.
One of the most important ways law enforcement can improve relationships is by holding officers accountable for their actions. When police officers use excessive force or engage in racial profiling, it can seriously damage the trust between them and the community. To fix this, police departments should require the use of body cameras, establish independent review boards, and ensure that investigations into misconduct are fair and transparent. These measures can help ensure that officers are not only accountable to their supervisors but also to the people they serve. This kind of transparency can rebuild trust, especially in communities where relationships with law enforcement are already strained.
Another important step is for police to engage more with the community. Law enforcement agencies should get involved in local events and activities, such as town hall meetings, school programs, and community outreach events. By being present in the community and talking with residents, officers can show that they are not just enforcers of the law but also a part of the community. This builds trust and reduces the fear or suspicion people might have about law enforcement. When police officers and community members get to know each other, it creates a sense of partnership. It’s easier to work together to solve problems and keep neighborhoods safe when there is mutual respect and understanding.
Education is also key in improving the relationship between law enforcement and the African American community. Police officers should undergo training that focuses on understanding cultural differences, reducing bias, and learning how to handle conflicts in a peaceful way. Many officers may not fully understand the historical struggles African Americans have faced, such as slavery, segregation, and discrimination. By educating officers about this history, they can approach situations with more empathy and less judgment. Officers should also be trained in de-escalation techniques so they can handle tense situations without resorting to violence. When officers understand the challenges of the communities they serve, it can reduce misunderstandings and improve interactions.
In addition, police departments should work toward increasing diversity within their ranks. Having African American officers on the force can help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community. These officers often have a better understanding of the culture and issues African American residents face. By hiring more diverse officers, police departments can help create a force that is more representative of the people they serve. This diversity will not only improve relationships with the community but also bring a variety of perspectives into the decision-making process within the department.
In conclusion, improving the relationship between law enforcement and the African American community requires effort and change. By holding officers accountable, engaging with the community, providing better training, and increasing diversity, police can start to rebuild trust. This isn’t something that will change overnight, but with patience, open communication, and a commitment to understanding one another, law enforcement can become a positive force in African American communities, making everyone feel safer and more respected.
Success Beyond Borders
Title: "The Ripple Effect"
Opening Scene:
The camera zooms in on a busy high school campus as the sun rises, casting a warm glow over everything. Students are gathering in groups, chatting, and heading to class, while a few joggers sprint through the field. The scene feels like a fresh start—full of possibility. The camera shifts to me walking through the halls, backpack slung over one shoulder, heading toward my first class of the day. As I walk past the students, I take a deep breath, ready to start another day of school. There’s a quiet sense of purpose in my step, as I know that today, like every day, is an opportunity to make an impact.
As I pass by a group of freshmen looking confused about where to go, I stop for a moment and offer to help. "Hey, I can show you the way to the cafeteria," I say, smiling and guiding them through the hallways. The small act of kindness feels natural to me because I know how hard it can be to find your place in a new environment. The camera captures the thankful look on their faces as they wave goodbye and head off in the right direction. This scene shows how I try to live out my values—being there for others and helping them feel confident, even in the smallest ways.
Flashbacks play in quick succession, showing snippets of my past: staying up late working on projects, volunteering at local events, and taking on leadership roles in school clubs like the Crespi Business Bureau. Each moment highlights the times when I’ve pushed myself to step up, even when it was hard. There are times when I’ve felt overwhelmed, trying to balance school, sports, and leadership roles, but these challenges have taught me the value of resilience and teamwork.
Cutting back to the present, I enter a classroom for a leadership seminar. The professor talks about the power of influence and how leaders can create change by helping others succeed. As I sit at the front of the class, I realize how much I’ve learned about leadership—how it’s about more than just being in charge, but about making sure others around you feel valued and supported. The camera zooms in on my face, filled with focus and determination, ready to take these lessons and apply them outside of the classroom.
The scene shifts to me sitting at a café later in the evening, looking over my college applications. My thoughts race as I fill in the personal statements, reflecting on everything I’ve done so far. A notification buzzes on my phone: one of my peers wants to collaborate on an upcoming community event. Without a second thought, I type back, "I’m in." It's these moments of connection and teamwork that mean the most to me. Helping others achieve their goals is just as important as reaching mine.
As the scene continues, the camera follows me outside, where I take a deep breath, looking at the sky. The stars begin to twinkle, a reminder that there’s still so much more ahead of me. But in that moment, I feel a sense of fulfillment—knowing that the small things I do today will create ripples that impact the future.
The final scene opens with a wide shot of me walking down the street at night. The camera pulls back to show the ripple effect of my actions. We see the people around me—students, teachers, and peers—taking steps forward, inspired by something I did to help or support them. The ripple spreads, becoming bigger and bigger, symbolizing how leadership and kindness can have far-reaching effects. The camera slowly fades to black, leaving the audience with a sense of hope and possibility.
End Scene.
This opening scene illustrates my journey—showing how every choice I make, no matter how small, can impact those around me. It reflects my belief that leadership is not just about personal achievement but about empowering others. Whether it’s offering help to a freshman or organizing a community event, I want to create positive change by supporting the people around me.
Life hasn’t always been easy. I’ve faced challenges along the way, from balancing school with extracurriculars to pushing through moments of doubt. But each struggle has helped me grow stronger and more determined. The title, The Ripple Effect, represents my belief that even small actions can lead to big change. I hope to continue creating those ripples in my community, and one day, in the world at large.
Matthew E. Minor Memorial Scholarship
I have always had a strong commitment to leadership and giving back to my community. Throughout high school, I’ve taken on roles that allow me to make a meaningful impact, whether through leadership in school organizations, athletic teams, or volunteer work. As the president of the Crespi Business Bureau, I have learned the importance of not only leading by example but also fostering an environment where others feel empowered to contribute. I’ve worked with peers to create programs that encourage involvement in both school and local community projects. Additionally, my role in student government has allowed me to engage in planning initiatives that prioritize inclusivity and school spirit, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to be heard and involved.
One of the most impactful experiences I’ve had was my volunteer work with the Salvation Army at Camp Daley, a camp that serves disadvantaged youth, primarily from inner-city communities. This experience opened my eyes to the challenges many children face and deepened my desire to contribute positively to their lives. Through activities like meal preparation, organizing supplies, and leading special events, I helped create a safe and supportive space where these children could escape the challenges they face in their daily lives. This work not only taught me valuable leadership skills but also showed me how small efforts can make a big difference in the lives of others.
As I prepare to enter higher education, I am mindful of the financial challenges that come with pursuing a degree. My family’s financial situation has made it difficult to afford the cost of college without additional support. As a first-generation college student, I have always been motivated to create a better future for myself and my family, but the financial burden of tuition, books, and other college-related expenses is a significant concern. I am seeking financial aid to help ease this burden so I can focus on my studies and continue to contribute to my community without being overwhelmed by financial strain. Scholarships would provide me with the opportunity to pursue my academic and career goals without the added stress of financial uncertainty.
In addition to my academic and extracurricular involvement, I am passionate about protecting children and youth from bullying, both in-person and online. I recognize the importance of creating safe spaces where young people can learn, grow, and express themselves without fear of harassment. I have taken steps to address bullying within my community by actively participating in awareness campaigns and encouraging open conversations about the impact of bullying. As a leader, I have used my platform in student government and as a member of various clubs to promote anti-bullying initiatives, creating programs that educate peers about the consequences of bullying and fostering empathy.
On the issue of cyberbullying, I believe that prevention begins with education. I have worked with peers to raise awareness about the risks of social media and the importance of digital literacy. Teaching children and young adults how to protect their privacy online, recognize harmful behavior, and seek help when needed is essential to ensuring their safety. I also encourage peers to report cyberbullying incidents and offer support to those who may be victims. Creating an environment where people feel supported and where bullying is not tolerated is crucial to maintaining a safe and inclusive community.
As I move forward in my academic and professional journey, I remain committed to helping others, promoting inclusivity, and addressing issues that affect youth, both in the physical and online world.

I see myself as a positive force in society through my dedication to leadership, community engagement, and creating meaningful change. At present, I strive to make a difference in the roles I take on at school, particularly as president of the Crespi Business Bureau and a member of student government. These leadership positions allow me to shape initiatives that foster collaboration and inclusivity, while also encouraging others to be active participants in their community. I’ve learned that effective leadership is not just about making decisions but about inspiring those around you to engage, grow, and contribute to a collective purpose.
One of the most impactful ways I have given back to my community is through my work with the Salvation Army at Camp Daley, a sleepaway camp for disadvantaged youth. These children, many of whom come from underprivileged backgrounds, often lack the support systems and opportunities that others take for granted. My role at the camp involved meal preparation, organizing supplies, and assisting with events that provided these children with a safe and nurturing environment. This experience deepened my understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized communities and taught me that small actions can have a lasting impact. Simply showing up, being present, and offering a supportive hand can create spaces where children and young people feel valued, seen, and inspired.
This experience and others have motivated me to focus on community service and social impact, which I intend to carry with me into my future career. I am passionate about using business as a tool for positive change. My academic goal is to study business administration with an emphasis on leadership and social responsibility. I believe businesses have the power to not only drive economic growth but also to address social and environmental challenges. Whether through corporate social responsibility, sustainable practices, or social enterprises, I aspire to help lead organizations that consider the broader impact they have on the world.
As I look ahead to the future, I am driven by the belief that the leaders of tomorrow will be those who understand the importance of balancing profit with purpose. I hope to contribute to shaping an industry where financial success is not pursued at the expense of people or the planet. I see my future career as a way to integrate my passion for business with my commitment to social justice, inclusivity, and sustainability. This money would help me get to college and make a difference there as well.

One of my primary academic goals is to pursue a degree in business administration, with a focus on leadership and social impact. I have always been drawn to the versatility and potential of a business career, especially in roles that combine strategy, innovation, and philanthropy. In the long term, I aim to contribute to community-oriented initiatives, whether through management, entrepreneurship, or consulting. I believe that business can be a powerful tool for social change, and I am eager to learn how to use business practices to create a positive, lasting impact on society. This academic pursuit aligns with my passion for philanthropy and my belief that individuals can drive change through thoughtful, compassionate leadership.
Throughout my life, I’ve sought opportunities to give back to my community, both locally and globally. One of the most impactful ways I’ve done this is through my work with the Salvation Army at Camp Daley, a sleepaway camp for disadvantaged youth. I worked with children from inner-city communities who faced a range of challenges, from economic hardship to difficult home lives. My responsibilities included meal preparation, kitchen cleanup, and assisting with camp events. The experience allowed me to interact directly with children who were in need of positive role models and guidance. While the work was demanding, it was also incredibly fulfilling, as I was able to help create a safe and supportive environment for these children to learn and grow.
Another significant way I’ve given back is through my leadership roles at school. As the president of the Crespi Business Bureau, I’ve had the opportunity to help organize events and programs that provide resources and mentorship to students interested in business and leadership. I’ve also been involved in student government, where I’ve worked on initiatives aimed at improving student engagement and school culture. These experiences have taught me the importance of teamwork, empathy, and the ability to lead with a sense of purpose.
Additionally, I’m a member of the sports medicine club, where we focus on educating our peers about health and wellness, while also volunteering at local clinics and supporting athletic teams. Through this work, I’ve seen firsthand how small efforts can lead to meaningful change in the lives of others, whether it’s through providing knowledge, support, or encouragement.
These experiences of giving back have shaped my academic and professional goals by reinforcing the idea that leadership and community service should go hand in hand. I’ve learned that the best leaders are those who are grounded in a sense of responsibility to others and who understand the impact their actions can have on the world. My time at Camp Daley, my leadership roles in school, and my work with community-focused clubs have all inspired me to think about how I can use my skills in business to help address social issues and make a difference in people’s lives.
Looking ahead, I am excited about the prospect of continuing my education and gaining the skills necessary to bring about positive change. Whether through launching social enterprises, supporting non-profits, or driving corporate social responsibility initiatives, I am determined to make a meaningful contribution to the world. Throughout my life, I've encountered challenges that have tested my resilience, but one particular experience stands out as a turning point. It happened when I was working at Camp Daley, a Salvation Army camp for disadvantaged youth in Calabasas. The camp serves primarily inner-city Latino and African American children, many of whom face difficult circumstances in their daily lives. I was tasked with kitchen duties, assisting with meal preparation, cleanup, and organizing supplies, while also occasionally helping with special events. It was a role that required physical endurance, time management, and the ability to be adaptable under pressure.
The adversity I faced came in the form of burnout. The camp had long hours, and the work was physically demanding. I quickly realized that my initial excitement to contribute had led me to underestimate the level of responsibility and stamina required. I found myself juggling multiple tasks at once, constantly moving from one thing to another without much time to pause. As the days wore on, I started to feel exhausted, both physically and emotionally. I began doubting my ability to make it through the summer and feared I wouldn’t be able to deliver on my commitments.
It was during this period of fatigue and self-doubt that I had a realization: I was not alone in my struggle. The kids at the camp, many of whom faced greater adversity than I could ever imagine, were still finding joy in their days despite their hardships. They showed up every morning with hope in their eyes, ready to make the most of their time at camp. They had an ability to find strength in difficult situations that I hadn’t yet fully appreciated. This perspective shift encouraged me to push through the difficult moments. I realized that my challenges were temporary, and by focusing on the impact I could make on the kids' lives, I could find the energy to keep going.
From that experience, I learned the importance of perseverance and perspective. Adversity often presents itself as an obstacle, but it can also be a valuable opportunity for growth. Through the struggles at Camp Daley, I developed a greater appreciation for the power of hard work and the importance of being adaptable in challenging circumstances. I also learned that self-doubt is a natural part of growth, but it doesn’t define my potential. Instead, it is how we face and overcome those moments that shapes our character.
This lesson has stayed with me in everything I do. Whether it's balancing my leadership roles at school, managing my studies, or preparing for future opportunities, I approach each challenge with a renewed sense of determination. I’ve become someone who embraces adversity as a means to learn and grow, and I’m not afraid to push through the tough moments, knowing that perseverance will eventually lead to success.
Ultimately, overcoming adversity at Camp Daley taught me not just about hard work, but about the power of resilience, perspective, and compassion. These lessons have shaped who I am today: someone who seeks to make an impact in the world by facing challenges head-on and helping others along the way.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been fascinated by how business and finance can transform lives. My interest in this field of study started when I first learned about financial literacy and realized that understanding money isn’t just for bankers—it’s a key to unlocking opportunities for everyone. This curiosity deepened when I became President of the Crespi Business Bureau at my school, where I organized workshops on budgeting, investing, and entrepreneurship. I saw firsthand that teaching these practical skills not only empowered my peers but also ignited a passion in me to make a broader impact on my community.

Speaking of football, being a student-athlete has taught me the importance of resilience, teamwork, and determination—qualities that are essential in any field of study. Balancing early morning practices, intense training sessions, and academic responsibilities was not easy. There were times when the pressure felt overwhelming, and I doubted if I could continue pushing forward. I remember a season when injuries and a string of losses left me feeling like I was at the end of my rope. Instead of giving up, I learned to embrace my role as the underdog. I worked even harder, both on the field and off, channeling my frustration into a drive to improve. That experience taught me that adversity is not a setback but a stepping stone toward success.
Overcoming these challenges has shaped my perspective on life and solidified my commitment to my future career goals. I now see every obstacle as an opportunity to learn and grow. My personal faith has been a constant source of strength and guidance throughout my life, especially during moments of challenge and growth. Growing up, I always felt that God was watching over me—even on days when everything seemed to go wrong. This belief has helped me see obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than as setbacks. Whether it was struggling to balance a packed schedule as a student-athlete or facing doubts about my ability to lead, my faith reminded me that I was never alone.
During my time as President of the Crespi Business Bureau and as a member of Student Government, I often found myself in positions where I had to make tough decisions. There were moments on the football field, when I was considered the underdog, that I felt overwhelmed by the pressure. In those times, I would turn to prayer and reflection, seeking guidance and strength from God. This practice not only helped me calm my mind but also enabled me to approach every challenge with a clear sense of purpose. I learned that true leadership is rooted in humility and compassion, qualities that my faith has instilled in me.
Volunteering at Camp Daley further reinforced the role of faith in my life. Working with underserved children, I witnessed firsthand how a little kindness and guidance can make a big difference. It reminded me that every act of service, no matter how small, is a reflection of the love and compassion that God calls us to share. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been fascinated by the idea of taking something complicated and breaking it down so anyone can understand it. One of the things that really interests me is financial literacy. It might not seem as exciting as a last-minute touchdown on the football field, but for me, learning about money management and entrepreneurship has a power all its own.
In high school, I had the chance to dive into this passion as President of the Crespi Business Bureau. I organized workshops on budgeting, investing, and starting your own business. What really got me going was seeing how these skills could change lives. When my classmates learned that a little planning and discipline could lead to big opportunities, it struck me that financial literacy isn’t just about numbers—it’s about empowerment. It made me realize that understanding money matters can give people the confidence to pursue their dreams, no matter where they come from.
Being on the football field taught me the importance of discipline and teamwork, lessons that carry over perfectly into the world of finance. In sports, every play counts and every teammate has a role. Similarly, in managing money, every decision impacts your future, and working together—whether with a mentor or a team of advisors—can make all the difference. Both areas require persistence, strategy, and a willingness to learn from mistakes.
Outside of the classroom and the field, I also volunteer at Camp Daley, a sleepaway camp for underserved kids. There, I see firsthand how a little guidance can spark big changes. Whether I’m helping kids learn new skills or organizing activities, I’m reminded of the importance of sharing knowledge. This has inspired me to think about ways I can merge my love for sports, leadership, and financial education to create programs that help young people build a secure future.
Looking ahead, as I prepare to attend Colby College in Maine, I plan to continue exploring this passion. I’m eager to study more about business and finance so I can eventually give back to my community in a meaningful way. I truly believe that by understanding and sharing financial literacy, I can help create opportunities for others—just like a well-executed play on the field can change the outcome of a game.
Nickels Student Athlete Scholarship
Playing sports in high school has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding parts of my life. As a student-athlete, I’ve had to juggle early morning practices, long afternoons filled with classes, and then evenings of extra training. Sometimes, it felt like there just weren’t enough hours in the day. I remember rushing from the classroom to the field, trying to cram in homework between practice drills. It wasn’t just about finding time—it was also about learning how to manage stress and keep my priorities straight.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is the physical toll that sports take on my body. Injuries, muscle fatigue, and even just the everyday wear and tear from constant practice have made me appreciate the importance of recovery and self-care. There were days when I was so sore or tired that all I wanted to do was give up. But those tough moments taught me the value of pushing through, even when the odds seem stacked against me. I learned to listen to my body, take time to rest when needed, and still stay committed to my goals.
Another challenge is dealing with the pressure to perform. Whether it’s the expectations from my coaches, the competitive spirit of my teammates, or my own high standards, there’s always a sense of pressure that can sometimes feel overwhelming. I’ve had to learn how to handle disappointment when things didn’t go as planned, and how to use those setbacks as a way to improve. Losing a game or making a mistake in a critical moment was hard at first, but over time, I realized that those moments were also opportunities to learn and grow.
Team dynamics also present a unique set of challenges. Football isn’t just an individual effort—it’s a team sport that requires trust, communication, and sometimes even compromise. I’ve had disagreements on the field, and there have been times when my teammates and I didn’t see eye-to-eye on strategies. These experiences taught me how important it is to listen to others and to work together to find a solution that benefits the whole team.
Overall, being a student-athlete has taught me valuable life lessons. I’ve learned the importance of discipline, hard work, and perseverance. I now understand that challenges—whether they are physical, mental, or emotional—are just stepping stones on the path to success. Every early morning, every tough practice, and every setback on the field has prepared me for the future. These experiences have shown me that with determination and teamwork, I can overcome any obstacle and keep moving forward.
In the end, the challenges of playing sports in high school have not only made me a better athlete but also a stronger, more resilient person. These lessons will undoubtedly continue to shape my future, both on and off the field.

Coach "Frank" Anthony Ciccone Wrestling Scholarship
Coach Frank always rooted for an underdog—a role that I once found difficult to accept, yet it has since become a cornerstone of my identity. In my sophomore year of high school, I was known as the underdog on our football team. Coming from a small town with limited exposure to high-level sports, I was often overshadowed by teammates with more natural talent and longer experience. While many saw me as someone who would never secure a starting position, I decided to use that label as a driving force in pursuing my passion for football and personal growth.
Balancing the rigorous demands of being an athlete with my responsibilities as President of the Crespi Business Bureau and active involvement in Student Government was no small feat. At times, I felt overwhelmed by the expectations placed on me both on and off the field. My volunteer work at Camp Daley, where I helped underserved children experience the joys of a supportive environment, also added to my busy schedule. Despite these commitments, the challenges on the football field hit hardest. Each practice felt like a test of my endurance and ability, as whispers of doubt followed me every time I stepped onto the turf.
Instead of allowing those doubts to define me, I embraced the underdog role. I remembered Coach Frank’s belief that being an underdog meant having something special—a burning desire to prove yourself against all odds. With that mindset, I began dedicating extra hours to perfect my skills. I arrived early to practice, stayed late to work on my drills, and always asked for feedback from my coaches. I learned to analyze my mistakes, using every misstep as a lesson in resilience. Even when fatigue and self-doubt crept in, I pushed forward, driven by the belief that my hard work would eventually change perceptions.
This perseverance paid off during a pivotal game when our team was down by a wide margin. In a moment that encapsulated my entire journey, I was given the opportunity to lead a crucial drive. Every pass and every sprint was a testament to my relentless effort to overcome my underdog status. Although the game didn’t end in a perfect victory, that drive marked a turning point—not only for me, but for how my teammates and coaches viewed what determination could achieve.
Embracing my role as an underdog taught me that setbacks are not a reflection of weakness but a chance to grow stronger. I now see challenges as opportunities to learn, and I carry this lesson into every aspect of my life—from leading projects in the Crespi Business Bureau to volunteering at Camp Daley. For anyone who finds themselves feeling underestimated, my advice is simple: lean into the challenge. Let every obstacle fuel your ambition and work ethic, and never let the opinions of others limit your potential.
Looking ahead, as I prepare to join Colby College in Maine, I know that the resilience I developed as an underdog will continue to guide me. Despite the financial hurdles I still face, the lessons learned on the football field have instilled in me a relentless drive to succeed and inspire others. In every struggle, I see a chance to prove that the underdog can rise—and that belief will always be my guiding light.

Simon Strong Scholarship
When I look back on my high school years, one period stands out as a true test of my resilience. Balancing academic pressures, extracurricular responsibilities, and personal hardships often felt overwhelming. One particular semester, when I was juggling my role as President of the Crespi Business Bureau, volunteer work at Camp Daley, and rigorous AP courses, I encountered adversity in the form of self-doubt and burnout. It was a time when every day presented a new challenge, and the fear of failing not only myself but also those who depended on me loomed large.
The turning point came when I received feedback from a trusted mentor who noticed that my constant drive was taking a toll on my well-being. Their honest conversation helped me realize that pushing myself to the brink wasn’t the answer; instead, I needed to strike a balance between my ambitions and self-care. I started by re-evaluating my priorities and organizing my time more effectively. I learned to delegate responsibilities within CBB and to ask for help when needed—a lesson that was initially difficult because I equated asking for help with weakness.
Through this process, I discovered the power of resilience. I began incorporating small breaks into my schedule, set aside time for reflection, and even introduced mindfulness techniques into my daily routine. Gradually, I regained my energy and found that I could meet my commitments without sacrificing my mental health. This period of adversity, though challenging, reshaped me into someone who values balance and understands that strength is not measured solely by how much one can do, but also by one’s ability to care for oneself.
The experience taught me that adversity is not a permanent state, but rather a catalyst for growth. It revealed that vulnerability and asking for support are not signs of failure but of courage. If I were to advise someone facing similar challenges, I would say: trust in your ability to adapt, recognize when you need help, and never be afraid to reassess your path. Remember, your worth isn’t defined by your productivity alone, and taking time to recharge is essential for sustained success.
In conclusion, this period of struggle and self-discovery has become a cornerstone of who I am today. It has molded my leadership style to be more empathetic, collaborative, and realistic. I now approach challenges with a balanced perspective, knowing that each setback is an opportunity to learn, grow, and ultimately, become a better version of myself. Embracing adversity has taught me that with patience, support, and perseverance, any obstacle can be overcome.

One issue that has stood out to me is the lack of opportunities for disadvantaged youth. Many children grow up without access to stable support systems, mentorship, or enriching experiences that can help them develop confidence and ambition. My time working at Camp Daley, a sleepaway camp for underserved children, showed me just how much a positive environment can impact young lives. Seeing kids from inner-city communities light up with joy, build friendships, and grow in confidence made me realize how important it is to invest in the next generation.
Motivated by this experience, I took the initiative to continue supporting nonprofit groups at the camp, assisting with weekend programs and special events. Whether working in the kitchen, organizing supplies, or ensuring campers had the resources they needed, I knew that even small contributions could make a big difference. My leadership roles in Student Government and as a school ambassador also allowed me to advocate for service-based initiatives, encouraging more students to get involved in giving back to the community.
So far, I’ve helped create meaningful experiences for young campers while strengthening my own leadership, work ethic, and ability to adapt to different needs. However, I know there’s still more to be done. Moving forward, I want to expand these efforts by organizing volunteer groups from my school to work with programs like Camp Daley. By connecting students with service opportunities, I hope to foster a culture of giving back and ensure that more children have access to the support and mentorship they deserve. Empowering young people today creates stronger communities for the future, and I’m committed to continuing that work.
