During one of my ride-alongs as an EMT student, we responded to a call for an elderly woman who had fallen in her home. When we arrived, we found her on the floor, disoriented and in pain. She was scared, alone, and visibly shaken. While the lead paramedic assessed her injuries, I noticed how she gripped his hand tightly, desperate for reassurance. Instead of focusing solely on the medical assessment, he took a moment to speak to her gently, asking about her family, her favorite memories, and what made her happy. As they talked, her breathing slowed, and her panic subsided. Though we were there to provide emergency medical care, it was his compassion that made the biggest difference in calming her fear. I expected to learn technical skills during my EMT training—how to assess a patient, how to take vital signs, how to administer life-saving interventions. What I did not expect was how much I would learn about the human side of medicine. Seeing that paramedic take the time to comfort the patient reminded me that even in the most urgent situations, human connection matters. A patient’s fear and anxiety are just as real as their physical pain, and addressing both is crucial to providing quality care. That moment had a profound effect on me. It reinforced my belief that compassion is just as important as clinical skill in healthcare. I had always understood nursing to be about treating illnesses and injuries, but this experience showed me that it is just as much about treating fear, loneliness, and uncertainty. In that moment, the paramedic didn’t just see a patient—he saw a person, someone who needed comfort just as much as she needed medical attention. This experience has shaped the way I approach patient care as I continue my journey toward becoming a nurse. Whether in emergency situations or long-term treatment settings, I want to be the kind of healthcare provider who takes the time to make my patients feel seen and valued. It is easy to get caught up in the technical aspects of medicine, but true healing requires both skill and empathy. I will always remember that call—not because of the emergency itself, but because of the compassion that turned a frightening moment into one of comfort and connection. That is the kind of nurse I want to be—one who treats not just conditions, but people, with kindness and understanding. By carrying this lesson with me, I hope to make a meaningful impact on my future patients, ensuring they feel supported not just medically, but emotionally as well.

Nursing is more than just a career path for me—it is a way to serve, to heal, and to advocate for those in need. My passion for nursing stems from both my upbringing and my personal experiences in healthcare. Growing up, I was surrounded by strong role models in the medical field, including my mother, a nurse practitioner. She would often bring me to the hospital where she worked in the rehab unit, and there, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact that compassionate, skilled nurses have on patients’ lives. Watching her and her colleagues care for individuals who were recovering from life-altering injuries and illnesses inspired me to pursue a career in nursing. I saw the power of patience, advocacy, and resilience in action, and I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to making a similar impact. My goal is to specialize in pediatric ER nursing, where I can combine my ability to think quickly in high-pressure situations with my deep commitment to patient care. Currently, I am training to become an EMT, an experience that has reinforced my ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively in medical emergencies. Beyond providing immediate, life-saving interventions, I also want to contribute to my community by engaging in public health initiatives and advocating for those who may struggle to access care. Many individuals—especially veterans, people with disabilities, and underserved populations—face significant barriers when seeking medical treatment. My goal as a nurse is not just to treat symptoms but to help patients navigate the healthcare system, ensuring they receive the long-term support they need. Whether through community outreach programs, patient advocacy, or mentorship for future healthcare professionals, I want to use my skills to uplift and support those around me. My connection to the military has also played a defining role in shaping my values and aspirations. My father is an Air Force veteran who was disabled while serving. His experiences exposed me to the realities many veterans endure, from long wait times for treatment to the difficulty of finding specialized care that truly addresses their needs. Seeing this struggle firsthand has motivated me to be part of the solution. I hope to use my nursing career to advocate for better care for veterans and individuals with disabilities, ensuring they receive the respect and attention they deserve. Whether working in a hospital setting or contributing to community health initiatives focused on veterans, I want to make a difference by providing compassionate, effective care to those who have sacrificed so much for others. For me, nursing is about more than just treating patients—it is about honoring the values of service, resilience, and empathy that I have carried with me throughout my life. My experiences, from growing up around healthcare to witnessing the challenges my father and other veterans face, have given me a clear purpose. I am committed to making a lasting impact in my community, ensuring that every patient I encounter feels heard, valued, and cared for. By pursuing a career in nursing, I hope to embody the same spirit of dedication and service that has shaped me, using my skills to bring healing, hope, and advocacy to those who need it most.

Growing up, I had a unique window into the world of healthcare. My mother, a dedicated nurse practitioner, often brought me to the hospital where she worked in the rehab unit. While other kids spent their afternoons at home or playing outside, I spent mine walking through hospital halls, observing nurses and therapists as they cared for patients recovering from strokes, surgeries, and serious injuries. Watching my mom interact with her patients—listening to their concerns, celebrating their progress, and offering unwavering support—left a lasting impact on me. It was in that environment, surrounded by compassion and resilience, that I first discovered my own passion for healthcare. The rehab unit was more than just a place where patients healed physically; it was a space of emotional and mental recovery as well. I saw firsthand how much a nurse’s presence could mean to someone who was struggling—how a kind word, a reassuring touch, or simply taking the time to listen could make all the difference. I watched my mom advocate for her patients, ensuring they had the resources and care they needed, even beyond the hospital. Seeing this instilled in me a deep respect for the role of a nurse, not just as a medical provider but as a lifeline for those in need. Beyond the hospital, the broader community I grew up in also played a significant role in shaping my goals. I was raised in an environment where hard work and service to others were valued above all else. My mother’s dedication to her patients wasn’t just a job—it was a calling, and that mindset extended into the way she raised me. She taught me the importance of empathy, responsibility, and stepping up when someone needs help. These values became the foundation of my desire to pursue nursing, a career where I can make a tangible impact on people’s lives. Now, as I train to become an EMT, I carry those lessons with me every day. The fast-paced nature of emergency medicine has reinforced my ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and provide care in high-stress situations. However, my experiences in the rehab unit taught me that true healing goes beyond immediate medical intervention—it requires patience, advocacy, and a deep understanding of the human experience. This is why I aspire to become a nurse, specifically in emergency or trauma care, where I can combine my skills in crisis response with the compassionate, long-term support I learned to appreciate in the rehab unit. The community that raised me—both in my home and in the hospital—shaped me into the person I am today. It gave me a sense of purpose and a drive to serve others. As I move forward in my journey, I hope to take what I’ve learned and use it to give back, ensuring that every patient I encounter receives not only medical care but the same kindness, dignity, and support that first inspired me to pursue this path.

Nursing is more than a profession to me—it is a calling rooted in service, compassion, and resilience. I have always been drawn to the idea of helping others, but my experiences in emergency medical services have deepened my desire to become a nurse. Working as an EMT has given me firsthand exposure to the fast-paced, high-stakes nature of healthcare and has solidified my commitment to patient care. However, while I have gained valuable experience in emergency response, I want to take my role a step further. Nursing offers the opportunity to build ongoing relationships with patients, advocate for their well-being, and provide care that extends beyond the immediate crisis. Beyond the hospital walls, I see nursing as a way to uplift and strengthen my community. Healthcare is not always accessible to everyone, and I want to bridge that gap by bringing medical knowledge and compassionate care to those who need it most. As a nurse, I plan to contribute by working in emergency and trauma care, ensuring that people receive immediate, life-saving treatment regardless of their background or financial situation. Additionally, I hope to be involved in public health initiatives that promote preventative care and health education. Many communities, especially underserved populations, lack access to information about managing chronic conditions, recognizing early signs of illness, or understanding their healthcare options. I want to play an active role in outreach programs that provide education on topics like first aid, disease prevention, and mental health awareness. By equipping individuals with knowledge, we can empower them to take control of their health and prevent medical crises before they occur. Beyond direct patient care, I also hope to contribute by mentoring future healthcare professionals. My experience as Captain of my EMT class has shown me the value of leadership and guidance in medical training. I want to continue supporting and educating those entering the field, whether by mentoring aspiring nurses, assisting in training programs, or volunteering in youth outreach programs that inspire the next generation of healthcare workers. Nursing is not just about treating symptoms; it’s about advocating for patients, offering reassurance in difficult moments, and being a steady presence when people are at their most vulnerable. I want to use my skills to bridge gaps in healthcare, provide compassionate care to those who feel unseen, and continue learning so I can offer the best possible support to my patients. Pursuing a degree in nursing is the next step in my journey, and I am eager to grow into a healthcare professional who makes a tangible difference in people’s lives. I am ready to bring my dedication, resilience, and passion to the field, ensuring that every patient I encounter receives not only excellent medical care but also the kindness and respect they deserve.

From a young age, I knew I wanted to work in healthcare, but it wasn’t until I experienced the impact of compassionate medical professionals firsthand that I truly understood my calling. The kindness and dedication of nurses I encountered left a lasting impression on me, inspiring me to pursue a career in nursing so that I could provide the same level of care and support to others. My passion for nursing was also influenced by my mother, who is a nurse practitioner. Growing up, I watched her dedicate herself to her patients, balancing clinical expertise with genuine compassion. Seeing her commitment to patient care and advocacy showed me what it truly means to make a difference in someone’s life. Her work has been a constant source of inspiration, reinforcing my desire to follow in her footsteps and pursue a career that allows me to help others in their most vulnerable moments. To prepare for this journey, I have taken intentional steps to gain hands-on experience in healthcare. Currently, I am training to become an EMT, a role that has strengthened my ability to think critically under pressure, communicate effectively with patients, and work as part of a medical team. As the Captain of my EMT class, I have developed leadership skills, learned to remain calm in high-stress situations, and reinforced my commitment to patient-centered care. Responding to emergencies has given me firsthand experience with the unpredictability of healthcare and solidified my passion for helping others in their most critical moments. As I move forward in my journey, I plan to specialize in pediatric ER nursing. The fast-paced nature of emergency medicine aligns with my strengths and experiences as an EMT. I thrive in environments where quick thinking and decisive action can make a life-or-death difference. More importantly, I want to be the nurse who reassures my young patients and their families in their most vulnerable moments, providing comfort and stability in times of crisis. My journey into healthcare has been shaped by my experiences as both a patient and a caregiver, and every step along the way has reinforced my passion for nursing. I am ready to take this next step, equipped with the skills, resilience, and compassion necessary to excel in this field. My goal is to not only provide exceptional medical care but to be a source of comfort and hope for my patients, ensuring that no one feels alone in their time of need.

From a young age, I always knew I wanted to dedicate my life to helping others. However, it wasn’t until I began working with diverse communities and training as an EMT that I truly understood the impact of compassionate care. Nursing, to me, is more than a profession—it is a calling to serve, to heal, and to be a source of comfort in people’s most vulnerable moments. My journey began at the YMCA, where I worked with children, adults with disabilities, and individuals from underserved backgrounds. I saw firsthand how a simple act of kindness could change someone’s day. Whether it was helping a teen find a group or activity that they would fit the best with or supporting a struggling parent, I realized the power of patience, empathy, and human connection. This experience solidified my desire to pursue a career where I could make a lasting difference in people’s lives. I had considered going further into a career at an organization, but I felt that an aspect was missing. Wanting to take my passion further, I enrolled in EMT training and quickly found myself drawn to emergency medicine. As Captain of my class, I embraced the responsibility of leading and supporting my peers, ensuring that we all grew into competent and confident providers. Working under pressure, responding to medical emergencies, and comforting patients in distress only strengthened my desire to become a nurse. It showed me the importance of staying calm in chaos and being a reassuring presence for those in need. What excites me most about nursing is the opportunity to build lasting relationships with patients. While EMTs stabilize and transport, our connection with the patient ends when we hand them off to the emergency department. However, nurses stay with patients throughout their healing journey. I want to be there—not just to administer medication or dress wounds, but to offer comfort, listen to their fears, and celebrate their progress. Additionally, my mom is a Nurse Practitioner, and I have grown up hearing about her experiences working in multiple different departments. My experiences have shaped me into someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, values teamwork, and deeply cares about others. Nursing is the perfect blend of my skills and passions, and I am eager to embark on this path. I look forward to the challenges, the learning, and most importantly, the opportunity to be a source of hope and healing for those who need it most.
