Dr. Jade Education Scholarship
As a mother of two, a woman who was once told I couldn’t have children due to my fibroids and hyperthyroidism, living my dream life feels like a beautiful miracle, one that I have come to cherish every single day. Before I became a mother, my life was clouded by uncertainty. For years, I battled the physical and emotional challenges of fibroids and hyperthyroidism, conditions that made me question whether I would ever experience the joy of motherhood. I watched others have children, experiencing the highs and lows of parenting, while I faced a heartbreaking sense of longing. It was a painful and isolating journey. The thought of never having children, of not being able to nurture life the way I had always imagined, weighed heavily on me. But God had other plans for me.
Against the odds, I was blessed with not one, but two beautiful children. Becoming a mother has not only fulfilled a deep personal dream but has given me a new perspective on life. Every day, I am in awe of the little miracles that are my children. The bond I share with them is a constant reminder of God's blessings and the power of hope. I am now living a life I once thought was out of reach, and my greatest joy is being their mother, guiding them, nurturing them, and sharing in their growth and development.
But living the life of my dreams is not just about being a mother. It extends beyond my family to the career and impact I hope to have in the world. My dream life involves being a compassionate social worker, someone who advocates for vulnerable communities, especially those facing mental health challenges. I aspire to provide culturally sensitive mental health services, focusing on immigrant families and individuals from underrepresented communities. Through my work, I want to provide healing, empowerment, and support to people who, like me, have faced obstacles that may seem insurmountable.
To achieve this dream, I am pursuing my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. The life I envision is one where I am not only a mother but also a skilled and empathetic professional who has the knowledge and experience to make a meaningful impact in my community. I dream of opening my own therapeutic practice, Amare’s Therapeutic, where I can offer counseling services to individuals and families in need. This dream is intertwined with my passion for social justice and my personal experiences as an immigrant and a mother. I want to create a space where people can find healing and strength, knowing that they are seen and heard.
Receiving the Dr. Jade Education Scholarship would be a significant step toward realizing these dreams. It would ease the financial burdens of my education, allowing me to focus on developing the skills I need to serve my community effectively. The scholarship would empower me to provide a better future for my children, to lead by example, and to demonstrate that perseverance and faith can turn dreams into reality.
Living the life of my dreams means embracing the gifts I have, pursuing my passions, and using my experiences to give back to others. It means raising my children in a home filled with love, faith, and opportunity, and inspiring them to follow their own dreams, no matter the obstacles they may face. It’s a life where personal growth and service to others go hand in hand, and every day is an opportunity to make a positive impact.
Pastor Thomas Rorie Jr. Christian Values Scholarship
As a devout Orthodox Christian, my journey into Christianity and my relationship with God has been shaped by my cultural upbringing, experiences, and personal growth. I was introduced to Christianity at a young age by my family. Growing up in Ethiopia, I was raised in the Orthodox Christian tradition, a practice deeply rooted in our culture. My family taught me the importance of faith, prayer, and the rituals that connected us to the Lord. However, my spiritual path took unexpected turns when my family immigrated to the United States when I was just seven years old.
Upon arriving in the U.S., my father and stepmother introduced me to the Mormon faith. This was a significant shift from my Orthodox Christian upbringing, and while I became familiar with the practices of the Mormon religion, I never felt a deep connection to God through its teachings. I participated in church activities and embraced its doctrines, but something was missing. I didn’t feel the profound spiritual connection that I once had with God in my Orthodox Christian upbringing. In many ways, this transition caused me to drift further from God and lose sight of my faith and values.
As I moved to Virginia during my high school years to live with my uncle, I found myself completely disconnected from my spiritual roots. My uncle, though loving and supportive, did not emphasize the importance of church attendance or Bible study, and so, I stopped practicing my faith altogether. Without the guidance and structure I had once had in my family, I struggled to maintain a connection with God. During this time, I often felt God’s presence in my life, but I didn’t devote the time or energy needed to nourish that relationship.
Years passed, and I found myself drifting even further from God, though the longing to reconnect with Him never fully disappeared. It wasn’t until I became a mother three years ago that I realized the importance of spiritual renewal in my life. The birth of my first son was a transformative experience. I began to reflect on the blessings God had given me – my family, my health, and the opportunity to raise a child in this world. One morning, I woke up with a profound realization: I needed to repair the relationship I had neglected for so long. God had blessed me with the family I had always dreamed of, and it was time for me to show my gratitude and dedication to Him.
This realization led me to take concrete steps toward deepening my faith. I began reading my Bible daily, committing to understanding the Word of God. I also made attending church a priority, ensuring that every Sunday was a time to worship and connect with the Lord. This renewed commitment brought me closer to God and strengthened my relationship with Him. I no longer feel distant or disconnected from Him. I now know, without a doubt, that I am a child of God, loved and guided by His grace.
My journey into Christianity has not only shaped my spiritual life but has also influenced my career aspirations and goals. As I grew closer to God, I became more aware of His calling for me to serve others and be a vessel of His love. I realized that my passion for helping others and advocating for those who are marginalized is rooted in my Christian values. As a mother and an immigrant, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by vulnerable communities, and I feel called to make a difference in their lives.
With this calling in mind, I have pursued a career in social work, earning my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in 2021. I am now pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from The Catholic University of America to further develop my skills and to be better equipped to serve those in need. My goal is to work as a crisis specialist, particularly with organizations like Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, where I can support individuals in moments of crisis and help them navigate life’s most difficult challenges. Ultimately, I aspire to establish a private practice, Amare’s Therapeutic, that focuses on providing culturally sensitive mental health services to individuals and adolescents in need, especially within immigrant and underserved communities.
Receiving the Pastor Thomas Rorie Jr. Christian Values Scholarship would be a transformative gift in supporting both my academic and professional endeavors. This scholarship would provide the financial relief I need to focus on my studies without the added stress of financial burden. With the support of this scholarship, I can devote more time to my education and clinical training, advancing toward my goal of becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Additionally, the scholarship would allow me to continue my work within the community, making an impact as I grow in my career and personal faith.
This scholarship is not just an opportunity for me to further my education, it is a chance to honor God for all the blessings He has bestowed upon me. My future plans involve not only advancing in my career as a social worker but also using my knowledge, experience, and faith to serve others in a meaningful and impactful way. The Christian values I hold dear, particularly those of love, compassion, and service, will guide every step of my professional journey.
In conclusion, my journey into Christianity has been one of growth, renewal, and deepened faith. The support of the Pastor Thomas Rorie Jr. Christian Values Scholarship would help me achieve my academic and professional aspirations while allowing me to continue living out my faith through service to others. I am committed to using the gifts God has given me to make a positive impact on the lives of those who need it most. I am grateful for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship and the chance to share my story and goals. Thank you for considering my application.

It is more than financial support, it symbolizes empowerment, encouragement, and hope. With the dedication I have shown throughout my academic and professional journey, I am committed to using this opportunity to transform both my life and the lives of those I serve.
Graduating with a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from The Catholic University of America will be a pivotal moment, representing the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice. It will not only be a symbol of personal achievement but also a stepping stone toward creating a better future for my family and community. As an immigrant from Ethiopia and a mother of two, I have overcome numerous challenges that have shaped my resilience and determination. Adapting to a new country, navigating systemic inequities, and pursuing higher education while raising a family have been defining aspects of my journey. Each challenge has strengthened my resolve to use education as a tool to uplift both myself and others.
Once I achieve my goal of earning an MSW degree, my immediate focus will be on contributing to society as a crisis specialist with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington. This role is an ideal platform for me to provide meaningful support and advocacy for underserved populations. By addressing immediate crises with empathy and professionalism, I hope to foster resilience, hope, and healing in the lives of those I assist. This work aligns with my passion for social justice and my commitment to serving underrepresented communities. I believe that social work offers a unique opportunity to bridge gaps in services, empower individuals, and address systemic inequities that disproportionately impact vulnerable populations.
My long-term aspiration is to establish Amare’s Therapeutic, a private practice specializing in culturally sensitive mental health services. Growing up in a low-income household, I witnessed the effects of poverty, discrimination, and systemic inequities firsthand. These experiences fueled my passion for helping others and ignited my dedication to advocating for social justice. Through Amare’s Therapeutic, I aim to provide individuals and adolescents with the support they need to overcome challenges, develop resilience, and thrive. Mental health care is often stigmatized, particularly in immigrant communities, and my practice will work to dismantle these barriers by fostering trust, understanding, and inclusivity.
My career aspirations are deeply rooted in my personal values and experiences. Social work, for me, is not solely a profession, it is a calling to create positive change and address the challenges faced by those who are most vulnerable. In the short term, I will focus on earning my Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) credential while gaining practical experience as a crisis specialist. This credential is a critical step in me becoming a highly skilled and effective social worker capable of making a meaningful impact in the social work field. It will also equip me with the knowledge and expertise needed to pursue my long-term goals.
Amare’s Therapeutic represents the culmination of my vision for a more equitable and compassionate society. By providing culturally sensitive services, I hope to address the unique challenges faced by immigrants, adolescents, and other disadvantaged groups. My practice will also serve as a platform for raising awareness about the importance of mental health and advocating for systemic change. By fostering a culture of openness and understanding, I aim to create a world where everyone feels supported, valued, and empowered to thrive.
Receiving the Pastor Thomas Rorie Jr. Furthering Education Scholarship would be transformative in helping me achieve these aspirations. The financial demands of graduate education are significant, and this scholarship would alleviate the burden, enabling me to focus on my studies and career development. As a tenant of the Housing Opportunities Commission in Montgomery County, Maryland, and a mother of two, I face financial challenges that reflect my need for this support. Affordable housing has played a crucial role in enabling me to pursue higher education, but the cost of tuition remains a significant barrier. This scholarship would provide the financial relief necessary to prioritize my education and fully dedicate myself to achieving my goals.
Beyond its financial impact, this scholarship represents an investment in my potential to create meaningful change. It serves as a reminder that perseverance and hard work are valued and that dreams are worth pursuing. With the support of this scholarship, I will be able to dedicate myself to academic excellence, professional growth, and the pursuit of social justice. I am committed to using this opportunity to not only transform my own life but also to uplift others and contribute positively to society.
Looking to the future, my plans are centered on creating lasting change in my community and beyond. Upon completing my MSW degree and earning my LCSW credential, I will dedicate the early years of my career to crisis intervention and advocacy. Working with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington will provide me with the experience and insights needed to address the complex challenges faced by individuals in crisis. This work will also prepare me to take on greater responsibilities and expand my impact as a social worker. Addressing immediate needs with compassion and professionalism is essential to fostering hope and resilience in the lives of those I serve.
Amare’s Therapeutic will be the cornerstone of my long-term vision. Through this private practice, I aim to provide accessible and impactful mental health services that empower individuals to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. By creating a safe and inclusive space, I hope to dismantle barriers to care and foster trust among clients. The experiences I have gained through navigating these dual roles have significantly shaped my career goals and deepened my commitment to making a positive impact through my chosen field of social work.
One of the most significant challenges I face is managing time effectively. With my husband working full-time, the responsibility of raising our young children primarily falls on me. Balancing the responsibilities of motherhood with the demands of a graduate program has required resilience, time management, and unwavering determination.
One of the most significant challenges I anticipate is managing my time effectively. She Rose in Health Equity
Advancing health equity is a deeply personal mission for me, shaped by my own journey through significant health challenges. As a Black woman navigating the healthcare system, I’ve witnessed the disparities that often plague women like me, particularly in areas of reproductive health. My battle with fibroids and hyperthyroidism not only changed my life but also ignited a passion to advocate for health equity and holistic wellness for Black women.
I was first diagnosed with fibroids and hyperthyroidism under traumatic circumstances in 2020. Rushed to the hospital due to extreme pain in my lower abdomen, I felt like my world was crashing down. The experience was terrifying. I cried and screamed as my husband drove me to the hospital, and I spent 12 hours in a cold hospital bed filled with fear about what was happening to my body.
When the doctor finally arrived, his lack of empathy made the situation even harder to bear. He informed me I had three fibroids the size of tangerines and explained that they would continue to grow, causing heavy bleeding and eventually requiring surgery. This devastating news came just a month after I had been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. My husband and I had been planning to start a family, but now, I felt hopeless, as if my dreams of motherhood had been shattered.
For weeks, I wrestled with feelings of despair, wondering how this had happened to me. But through the strength of God, the unwavering support of my husband, and a determination to take control of my health, I began to educate myself about my conditions. Researching fibroids and hyperthyroidism led me to understand the limited and invasive treatment options available. The suggested procedures, including myomectomy and uterine fibroid embolization, came with risks to my fertility and no guarantees of permanent relief.
It was during this time that I discovered holistic medicine. I connected with Dr. Lauren White, an OB/GYN specializing in holistic womb health and endocrinology. Through her care, I embraced alternative treatments such as acupuncture, v-steaming, herbal teas, and a healthier diet. Over six months, I not only reduced the size of my fibroids but also regained a sense of control over my health. To my amazement, I was able to conceive, and I am now pregnant again while continuing my journey to heal my body naturally.
This experience transformed me and inspired my commitment to health equity. I am passionate about advocating for holistic approaches to healthcare, especially for Black women who are often dismissed or inadequately treated in traditional healthcare settings. My goal is to empower women with the knowledge and resources to advocate for their own health.
The She Rose in Health Equity Scholarship will enable me to further my education as I begin my Master of Social Work (MSW) program at The Catholic University of America. Through my studies, I aim to develop community programs that provide access to holistic care and educate women on managing conditions like fibroids and thyroid dysfunction. I also plan to work directly with healthcare providers to address racial biases and improve cultural competency, ensuring that Black women receive the care and respect they deserve.
By breaking down barriers to equitable healthcare, I hope to create lasting change. My journey has taught me that health equity is not just about addressing disparities; it is about restoring dignity, respect, and hope to the lives of Black women. This scholarship will allow me to pursue this mission with unwavering determination, ensuring that my story and experiences contribute to a future where all women can thrive.
Jayson Desmond Bailey Memorial Scholarship
Bullying is an issue that has deeply shaped my life, igniting a passion to address this social problem and advocate for change. As a mother of two boys, I am determined to create a future where all children feel safe and valued in their environments. My drive to combat bullying stems from my personal experiences and my desire to instill resilience and kindness in the next generation.
During middle school, I was the target of relentless bullying by a group of girls. What began as verbal taunts and exclusion quickly escalated into physical violence. For an entire year, I endured the sting of their words and the pain of their actions. The situation reached a peak when they attacked me in the cafeteria, in full view of my peers. It was a moment that left me feeling humiliated, isolated, and powerless.
Although this experience was one of the most challenging times in my life, it also became the foundation for my dedication to addressing bullying. Surviving that ordeal taught me the importance of standing up for oneself and others, even in the face of adversity. It also made me acutely aware of the lasting effects bullying can have on mental health, self-esteem, and overall well-being.
Today, as a mother and an advocate, I strive to create spaces where children feel empowered to speak out against bullying and support one another. I aim to educate my boys on the importance of empathy and kindness, teaching them to respect others and stand up for those who may be targeted. Beyond my role as a parent, I am pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) at The Catholic University of America to deepen my ability to address systemic issues that perpetuate bullying and oppression.
Through my graduate studies, I aim to focus on school-based interventions and community programs that provide resources and support for students facing bullying. I want to work with schools to implement anti-bullying initiatives, provide training for teachers and staff, and establish counseling services for victims and perpetrators. Bullying is not just an individual issue, it is a societal one that requires a collective effort to dismantle harmful behaviors and foster a culture of inclusivity.
This issue is deeply important to me because no child should feel the pain and fear I once felt. By addressing bullying, I hope to create a ripple effect of positive change, honoring the values of respect and compassion that Jayson Desmond Bailey held dear. My experiences have given me both the understanding and the resolve to dedicate my life to building safer, more supportive environments for all children.
Nabi Nicole Grant Memorial Scholarship
In 2020, I faced one of the most challenging periods of my life. I was rushed to the hospital after experiencing unbearable pain in my lower abdomen, pain so severe it felt as though I was having a miscarriage. My husband drove me as I cried and screamed in fear, uncertain about what was happening to my body. After 12 hours in the hospital, a doctor coldly informed me that I had multiple fibroids, each the size of a tangerine. He explained that the fibroids would continue to grow, cause heavy bleeding, and eventually require surgery.
This news was devastating. Just a month prior, I had been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, and now fibroids were added to my health struggles. To make matters worse, my husband and I had been planning to start a family, but this diagnosis felt like a crushing blow to that dream. My mind spiraled with fear, doubt, and hopelessness. I asked myself repeatedly, Why is this happening to me?
The following weeks were filled with appointments, consultations, and research. I learned that the treatment options available such as a myomectomy or uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) came with risks that could jeopardize my fertility. The weight of these decisions pushed me into a depressive state, leaving me feeling lost and powerless.
During this time, I leaned heavily on my faith. I turned to God, seeking strength and guidance in my moments of despair. Through prayer and reflection, I found the courage to shift my mindset from helplessness to action. I reminded myself that God’s plan for my life included hope and healing, even in the face of uncertainty. With this renewed strength, I began researching alternative approaches to managing my condition.
My journey led me to holistic medicine and eventually to Dr. Lauren White, a holistic OB/GYN specializing in womb health and endocrinology. Under her care, I explored treatments like acupuncture, vaginal steaming, herbal teas, and healthy eating. These holistic practices helped me regain a sense of control over my health, and for the first time since my diagnosis, I felt hopeful again.
Within six months, my faith and determination paid off. My fibroids began to shrink, and I was blessed with a miracle, I became pregnant. I am currently pregnant again, still managing my fibroids through natural methods, and I am deeply grateful for the strength God gave me to overcome this trial.
This journey has taught me the power of faith in overcoming even the most daunting challenges. It has inspired me to be an advocate for women navigating similar health struggles and to use my voice to bring awareness to holistic health options. Through my podcast, The Sunday Service Podcast, I now share stories and connect women with specialists who can help them find the best treatments for their unique journeys.
My reliance on faith during this time not only carried me through my darkest moments but also gave me a sense of purpose. I am now committed to using my experiences to empower others, trusting that God’s plan for me is to serve and inspire those who feel hopeless, just as I once did.
Lauren Newmark Uterine Fibroid Research Scholarship
In 2020, my life changed forever when I was diagnosed with fibroids and hyperthyroidism. I was rushed to the hospital due to excruciating pain in my lower abdomen, a pain that felt so severe I feared I might be experiencing a miscarriage. My mind raced with fear, and tears filled my eyes as my husband drove me to the hospital. After hours in a cold hospital bed filled with uncertainty, a doctor entered the room and told me I had multiple fibroids, each the size of a tangerine. He explained that they would likely grow larger, causing heavy bleeding, and that surgery would eventually be necessary.
This news was devastating. Just a month earlier, I had been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, and now fibroids were added to my health struggles. My husband and I had been planning to start a family, but this diagnosis felt like a death sentence for our dreams. As the doctor spoke, I couldn’t stop asking myself, Why is this happening to me? I felt helpless, hopeless, and completely overwhelmed.
In the weeks that followed, I was determined to learn everything I could about fibroids and their treatment. However, the more I researched, the more disheartened I became. Treatment options like myomectomy and uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) carried risks that could affect my fertility. This left me in a deep state of depression, feeling powerless over my own body and my future.
With the support of my husband and my faith in God, I began to rebuild my strength. I immersed myself in research and discovered alternative approaches to managing fibroids. This journey led me to Dr. Lauren White, a holistic OB/GYN specializing in womb health and endocrinology. Under her guidance, I explored holistic treatments like acupuncture, vaginal steaming, herbal teas, and dietary changes. For the first time since my diagnosis, I felt a sense of control over my health.
Within six months of following a holistic lifestyle, I saw significant improvements in my condition. Not only did my fibroids shrink, but I also regained my sense of self. Most importantly, I achieved what I feared would be impossible, I became pregnant. I am currently pregnant again, still managing my fibroids through natural methods, and grateful every day for this second chance.
In addition to advocating for holistic treatments, I created The Sunday Service Podcast, which focuses on women’s health. The podcast connects women with specialists who can help them navigate their journeys and find the best treatments for their health issues. This platform has allowed me to amplify the voices of experts and empower women to make informed decisions about their health.
My personal journey with fibroids has ignited a deep passion for advancing research, treatment, and awareness in this field. I know firsthand the fear, confusion, and isolation that often accompany this diagnosis. Women need better options, ones that prioritize their overall well-being, protect their fertility, and give them hope.
As I pursue my academic and professional goals, I aim to become an advocate for uterine fibroid research and holistic treatment options. I plan to raise awareness about alternative approaches, educate women about their choices, and contribute to research that improves care and outcomes. By sharing my story, I hope to inspire other women to take control of their health and know they are not alone. Through this scholarship, I want to honor the struggles of women like me and continue working toward a future where uterine fibroids are no longer a source of fear, but an opportunity for empowerment.
Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
Mental health has played a profound role in shaping my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. My journey through mental health challenges and advocacy has been a path of self-discovery, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to fostering healing in myself and others.
Growing up in a dysfunctional and abusive home, I became familiar with the shadows cast by untreated mental health struggles. The effects of intergenerational trauma, compounded by the stigma surrounding mental health in my community, created an environment where seeking help was often seen as a sign of weakness. Witnessing the toll this took on my family profoundly influenced my beliefs about mental health. I came to understand that mental wellness is just as vital as physical health, and that addressing mental health issues openly and empathetically is key to breaking cycles of pain and dysfunction.
My experiences reshaped my relationships. Surviving an environment where conflict and emotional instability were prevalent taught me the value of healthy communication, boundaries, and emotional vulnerability. I have worked hard to cultivate relationships rooted in mutual respect and support. As a mother, I strive to create an environment where emotional expression is celebrated, and mental health is prioritized. This intentionality is a direct result of my experiences and my determination to break generational patterns.
My experiences with mental health also heavily influenced my career aspirations. Having witnessed the barriers to mental health care that marginalized communities often face, I have become passionate about advocating for accessible, culturally sensitive mental health resources. These barriers often include financial constraints, lack of representation among mental health professionals, and cultural stigma. I realized that I wanted to be part of the solution—to address these gaps and help others navigate their journeys toward healing.
This realization led me to pursue a career in social work, with a specific focus on mental health. I am currently working toward my MSW, and my long-term goal is to establish my own practice, Amare's Therapeutic. My vision is to create a safe space where individuals from underserved communities can receive holistic and culturally attuned mental health care. This practice will integrate traditional therapeutic approaches with innovative methods like trauma-informed care and community engagement, ensuring clients feel seen, heard, and understood.
One of the most significant lessons I’ve learned from my experiences is the importance of empathy. Mental health struggles are often invisible, and the stigma surrounding them can prevent individuals from seeking help. I believe that normalizing conversations around mental health and providing accessible resources is crucial to fostering a more inclusive and compassionate society. My own healing journey has made me a stronger advocate, not only for myself but also for others who may not yet have found their voice.
Through my work and personal life, I aim to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health. I am committed to educating others on the importance of mental wellness and creating spaces where conversations about mental health can take place without fear or judgment. This commitment drives my academic pursuits, my relationships, and my long-term goals.
This scholarship represents more than financial support; it represents an opportunity to amplify my mission. By alleviating the financial burden of my education, I can focus more fully on my studies and fieldwork, equipping myself with the tools needed to effect meaningful change. The Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship will allow me to continue my advocacy while preparing to provide the care and support that so many desperately need.
In conclusion, my experiences with mental health have not only shaped my beliefs and relationships but have also inspired my career aspirations. I am determined to contribute to a world where mental health care is accessible, stigma is eradicated, and individuals feel empowered to prioritize their well-being. This scholarship would be instrumental in helping me achieve these goals, ensuring that I can continue to advocate for and support those who need it most

Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
My personal journey with mental health has been both transformative and deeply instructive, shaping every facet of my life. Growing up in a dysfunctional and abusive home exposed me to the long-lasting effects of trauma and mental health struggles. Witnessing generational cycles of unresolved pain instilled in me an early desire to break free from these patterns. This personal history profoundly influenced my decision to pursue a career in social work, where I can empower others to confront and heal from their mental health challenges.
One of the most significant ways my experience has shaped my goals is through my commitment to advocacy and service. I am currently pursuing my MSW with the intention of opening my own therapeutic practice, Amare’s Therapeutic, where I plan to provide accessible, trauma-informed care to underserved communities. My struggles have fueled my passion for dismantling stigmas surrounding mental health, particularly in minority populations, where cultural and systemic barriers often prevent people from seeking the help they need.
In terms of relationships, my mental health journey has taught me the value of empathy, communication, and boundaries. I’ve worked to cultivate healthier dynamics with those around me, learning to prioritize mutual respect and emotional safety. Becoming a mother has heightened my awareness of how mental health influences parenting, and I strive to model resilience, openness, and self-compassion for my child.
My understanding of the world has also evolved. I now recognize how societal structures and cultural norms perpetuate stigmas and disparities in mental health care. These insights drive my efforts to advocate for policy reforms and create more inclusive support systems. For example, my engagement with trauma-informed care highlights the importance of addressing not just individual needs but also the systemic barriers that hinder recovery.
While mental health challenges can feel isolating, my experiences have connected me to a broader community of individuals committed to healing and growth. This connection inspires me to continue pursuing a path where I can bridge personal experiences with professional expertise, ultimately contributing to a world that values and prioritizes mental health for all.
Through this journey, I have learned that mental health is not just an individual experience but a collective responsibility. It shapes how we interact, build, and grow as individuals and communities. This understanding fuels my passion to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and reinforces my belief in the transformative power of compassion and care.
