Hello! my name is Felicia , I am a 33-year-old mother of three, currently pursuing my Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree at Jersey College, with plans to reenroll upon completion to earn my Registered Nurse (RN) degree and eventually finish my education journey as a nurse practitioner. My aspiration is to work in the emergency department, where I can combine my love for medical science with my passion for helping others. My journey to this point has been challenging yet transformative. I became a mother at a young age and survived domestic abuse, experiences that have profoundly shaped my perspective on life and deepened my empathy for others. These trials have not only instilled in me a resilient spirit but also a fervent desire to make a positive impact in the lives of those in need. Currently, I am in my second term at Jersey College, preparing to start my third. My time in school has solidified my commitment to nursing and strengthened my resolve to excel in this field. The rigorous coursework and hands-on clinical experiences have fueled my fascination with medical science and highlighted the critical role that compassionate care plays in patient recovery. Balancing my responsibilities as a mother and a student has been demanding, yet it has also been incredibly rewarding. My children are my greatest motivation, and I strive to be a role model for them, demonstrating that perseverance and dedication can overcome any obstacle. They inspire me to work harder every day and to pursue my dreams relentlessly. The emergency department is where I believe I can make the most significant difference. I am eager to provide immediate, life-saving care to patients in critical situations and to offer support to their families during some of their most vulnerable moments. If I said my life was easy it would be a lie..at a young age I had my first child and decided to get married and have my other 2 children. I dropped out of high school and had no future of my own to look forward too. At 25 years old I made changes, I became a survivor of domestic abuse and not a victim, I got my GED as well as completed a certificate program for medical coding and billing I went through school with a 3.4 GPA. After completing the program during Covid I realized I wasn’t able to find a job and that I had really wanted a career more focused with patient care. The ability to go to a in person school wasn’t available for me at the time, I decided to become licensed to sell health insurance in multiple states. Again, the desire to help someone was still there. Throughout my entire life I knew I wanted to help people and be in the medical field . I always looked to help others with such an interest in anything medical but I hadn’t pinpointed exactly what it was. After my previous experience in school I knew I could do it . But to physically go to school was scary and the opportunity to wasn’t available to me. I woke up one day and said “what am I waiting for?” And I made the step (which was scary to say the least) and enrolled into nursing school at Jersey College ( full time LPN day program) The struggle is still there but I am making it. 3 kids and barely any money coming in is making it difficult for I get by. Even though I anm struggling at home to get by while still paying my ($430) monthly tuition. I have been able to maintain my grades, my classwork, learning new skills at my clinical sits as well as my long days start at 3:50 in the morning and ending by 10pm. So far I have completed my first term in the 90’s and working on my second term. Any help that could be provided would be seriously appreciated.
