My name is Faye, and I am a nursing student who came to the United States alone at seventeen. I have put myself through school while working jobs on the side and working through immigration court, learning most of it the hard way because there was no one ahead of me who had done it first. That experience is why I chose nursing. I know what it is to move through systems that were not built for you and to need someone to show up anyway. I want to be that person for immigrant patients and families who walk into a hospital already afraid they will not be understood, the ones who get overlooked because no one slows down to explain what is happening to them. I am a strong candidate not because things came easily, but because they did not, and I stayed anyway. With scholarship support I can put less energy into surviving and more into my clinical training and the patients I will one day care for.
