My life goal is to be a reproductive health nurse. As a reproductive health nurse, I will work with various obstetrics and gynecological private practices and reproductive counseling centers. I will contribute my special nursing perspective and expertise to these organizations. With my knowledge and the help of UNF's community-based learning I intend to work with midwives in the rural areas of Nigeria, where female genital mutilation is still being practiced, as well as places where young girls lack awareness-- abolishing these practices and spreading more awareness. I also desire to help couples battling infertility be aware of fertility treatment options, decrease high mortality rates and bring change to the women's health sector of Nigeria. Enrollment at UNF, my determination and my current work with the founder of Garnet Care Foundation will ensure I achieve this goal.

"Iy’o wu mi e wue, oun e m’omaiye meji jeun ototo i" is a yoruba adage translated to Every human being has special characteristics that make him unique a saying my dad never forgets to mention. I was born into a family of 5. Growing up as a child I had unexplained interest in healthcare, every career day at school I will beg my mom to dress me up as either a nurse or Doctor .
I could remember coming home from my break just to be informed my pastors wife has died during childbirth leaving behind an infant and 4 children. I cried not because I knew her, but because her death could have been avoided if only we had competent health professionals in my country. She died from post partum hemorrhage.
I knew I had to be an agent of change in a country where the women's health sector suffers from neglect, lack of quality information, and a high mortality rate. So I started looking for where I can get good education that includes valuable experience and hands-on practical, not just a degree in the Unites States of America.
Coming to the United states as an international student I had to overcome fear of the unknown. Relocating to the USA at the age of 17 to pursue a higher education I was very scared of what will be the outcome, but I had to learn that in life you never know the outcome except you try. I have been forced to get out of my comfort zone, get involved in my community and enjoy the diversity the USA has to offer .
One person that continually inspires me is my dad. His hard work, dedication in seeing a project comes to pass as well as his love for those in his community motivates and inspires me to do more and be the best for those around me, despite we are not related by blood.
I have chosen to focus on the area of women's reproductive health nursing because I know improving the health of women not only saves lives and provides awareness but also contributes to the overall health and economy of the nation. Coming from a family with no maternal cousins due to fertility issues, I have experienced how reproductive health takes a toll on the family mentally and also affects the overall productivity of individuals. This is due to the lack of awareness and understanding of fertility treatments and post partum care
Getting my nursing degree from the University of North Florida in the United state will be the foundation of my career as a certified nurse midwife. I will work with women ensuring respect for their reproductive choices, sex education to younger girls, the correct use of contraceptives and supporting the needs of women during childbirth and pregnancy. As a midwife I will work with various obstetrics and gynecological private practices and reproductive counseling centers. I will contribute my special nursing perspective and expertise to these organizations. With my knowledge and the knowledge gotten from my community-based learning I intend to work with midwives in the rural areas of Nigeria, where female genital mutilation is still being practiced, as well as places where young girls lack awareness-- abolishing these practices and spreading more awareness. I also desire to help couples battling infertility be aware of fertility treatment options, decrease high mortality rates and bring change to the women's health sector of Nigeria. my determination and my current work with the founder of Garnet Care Foundation will ensure I achieve this goal.
