    Lost Dreams Awaken Scholarship
Recovery, to me, means breaking cycles that once felt unavoidable. Growing up, addiction was normalized in my life. Both of my parents struggled with alcoholism and ultimately passed away still caught in that cycle. For a long time, I believed that was the path I was meant to follow. At one point in my life, I found myself there too. Because of that, recovery became more than just stopping a behavior, it became a decision to change my future. Recovery means choosing honesty over avoidance. It is recognizing the patterns I learned and having the courage to face them rather than repeat them. It means understanding that healing is not perfect or one-size-fits-all, but that I still show up for myself every day. It has redefined what strength means to me. Strength is no longer about enduring pain in silence, it is about taking accountability, making better choices, and continuing to grow even when it is difficult. Recovery has taught me to reflect instead of react, and to process my experiences rather than run from them. Most importantly, recovery means freedom. It is the freedom to choose a different life, to create stability where there was once chaos, and to be present for my family. It is how I ensure that my story does not repeat itself, but instead becomes something stronger, healthier, and whole.
    Enders Scholarship
My story begins with loss, but not just the loss of my parents’ lives. Long before they passed, I lost the chance to know them free from addiction. Both of my parents struggled with alcoholism and substance abuse, and they ultimately passed away still caught in that cycle. Their absence left a space in my life, but their struggles left something deeper, pain, confusion, and patterns I had to fight to overcome. Growing up, addiction was my normal. It shaped my environment, my instability, and how I learned to cope with difficult emotions. I experienced a quiet kind of grief early on, loving people who were physically present but not fully there. When they passed, I had to grieve not only who they were, but who they could have been. For a long time, I carried emotions I didn’t fully understand: anger at the chaos, sadness for what I lacked, and shame about where I came from. The hardest moment came when I recognized that I was repeating the same pattern. Because addiction was what I knew, I struggled with alcoholism in my own life. Realizing that I was walking a path I never wanted forced me to confront myself in a way I never had before. Breaking that cycle has been one of the most difficult things I have ever done. It required honesty, accountability, and strength I didn’t know I had. Through that process, I learned that I am not defined by my past, but by my choices. I learned that resilience is built in the moments when you decide to change, even when it’s hard. Reflection has played a key role in my healing. While meditation and journaling were not always formal habits, I have relied heavily on self-reflection. Writing has helped me process grief, release anger, and understand my thoughts more clearly. Putting my experiences into words made them feel less overwhelming and helped me see my growth over time. It gave me a way to heal. My decision to continue my education is deeply connected to my experiences. I did not follow a traditional path, but education gave me a second chance to build something different. I am currently pursuing my MBA, and my goal is to teach business and create programs that focus on entrepreneurship and financial literacy. I want to help others who come from difficult backgrounds build stable, independent futures and see possibilities beyond their circumstances. The biggest influences in my life are my children and grandchildren. They are the reason I chose to break cycles and build a different life. They remind me every day that my choices matter. I am also inspired by the mentors and educators who believed in me when I struggled to believe in myself. My parents’ lives and their passing have shaped me deeply, but they do not define me. Their story is part of mine, but it is not my ending. I am choosing growth, stability, and purpose. I am choosing to turn pain into strength and create a future that looks nothing like the past I came from.
    Tawkify Meaningful Connections Scholarship
Relationships have played a pivotal role in shaping both my personal growth and my professional aspirations. My journey has been deeply influenced not only by the connections I have built, but also by moments when those connections were absent. These experiences have taught me that meaningful relationships are not simply a source of support, they are a driving force behind resilience, success, and purpose. As a teenager experiencing homelessness, I faced instability and uncertainty without a strong support system. During that time, I learned to rely heavily on my own determination, but I also came to understand how critical encouragement, mentorship, and connection are in helping individuals move forward. When I chose to earn my GED, it marked more than an academic achievement, it was the beginning of intentionally forming relationships that would help guide my path. Those early connections with educators and mentors gave me the confidence to pursue higher education and redefine what I believed was possible for my future. As a first-generation college student, navigating higher education was both challenging and transformative. Without a clear roadmap, relationships with faculty, advisors, and peers became essential to my persistence and success. These experiences shaped my understanding of how impactful supportive relationships can be, especially for individuals who may feel uncertain or underserved. Today, as an Academic Coordinator and educator, I prioritize building strong, trust-based relationships with my students. I work closely with them to overcome academic and personal barriers, guiding them toward workforce readiness and long-term success. I have seen repeatedly that when students feel supported, they are more motivated, confident, and capable of achieving their goals. Looking ahead, relationships will remain central to my professional goals. I am currently pursuing my MBA and plan to teach business, while eventually developing a program focused on entrepreneurship and financial literacy. In these roles, success will not depend solely on knowledge or technical skill, it will depend on the ability to build meaningful connections. Entrepreneurship, in particular, is rooted in relationships: establishing trust, developing networks, and collaborating with others. I aim to prepare my students not only with practical business skills, but also with the interpersonal skills necessary to lead, communicate, and form lasting professional partnerships. On a personal level, relationships are equally important in shaping my long-term goals. As a mother of three and a grandmother, my family is my greatest source of motivation and purpose. They remind me daily why I strive for stability, growth, and continued education. Friendships, and family connections all contribute to my sense of balance and emotional well-being. They provide accountability, encouragement, and perspective, qualities that are essential to maintaining both personal fulfillment and professional success. Ultimately, my long-term goals are rooted in service: helping others overcome barriers and build sustainable futures. Relationships are the foundation of that work. Whether I am mentoring a student, collaborating with colleagues, or supporting my family, I strive to create meaningful connections that empower others. My life has shown me that success is not achieved in isolation. it is built through connection, trust, and shared growth. By continuing to invest in relationships, I am not only working toward my own goals, but also contributing to the success and well-being of those around me.

Something I want to build is a comprehensive educational program that combines career and technical education, business knowledge, and life skills to empower individuals, particularly those who face barriers, to achieve independence and long-term success. This vision is both a personal goal and a professional commitment shaped by my own experiences and my work in education. My goal is to build a program that goes beyond traditional classroom instruction by integrating real-world applications, such as culinary arts, child development, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and workforce readiness. I want to create a space where students not only gain academic knowledge, but also develop practical skills that directly translate into employment, career advancement, or business ownership. This includes teaching students how to manage money, build resumes, develop professional communication skills, and understand how to start and sustain a business. This vision is deeply personal to me. As someone who experienced homelessness as a teenager and navigated education as a first-generation college student, I understand the importance of having access to guidance, resources, and opportunity. I want to build something that serves as that bridge for others, especially for students who may not have a strong support system or clear direction. By creating a structured and supportive learning environment, I hope to help individuals recognize their potential and gain confidence in their ability to succeed. In the future, I also plan to expand this vision into my own business, where I can offer workshops, training programs, and community-based education focused on entrepreneurship and personal development. This would allow me to extend my reach beyond traditional educational settings and serve a broader population, including adults seeking new skills or career changes. The impact of what I hope to build is both personal and community-driven. For me, it represents growth, purpose, and the continuation of the journey I began when I chose to pursue education despite my circumstances. It is a way to honor the challenges I have overcome by creating opportunities for others. For my community, this work can provide access to resources that promote economic stability, career readiness, and self-sufficiency. By equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed, I hope to contribute to breaking cycles of poverty and creating stronger, more resilient communities. Ultimately, I want to build something that creates lasting change, something that not only educates, but uplifts, empowers, and transforms lives.

    Jerrye Chesnes Memorial Scholarship
Returning to school was both a courageous and challenging decision for me, shaped by my responsibilities as a mother, my professional commitments, and my personal determination to grow. One of the most significant challenges I faced was balancing multiple roles at once. As a mother of three, I am responsible not only for providing financially, but also for being emotionally present and supportive in my children’s lives. At the same time, I have maintained a full-time career while pursuing higher education. Managing coursework, deadlines, work obligations, and family responsibilities required a high level of discipline, time management, and sacrifice. There were many moments when the demands felt overwhelming. Late nights of studying after caring for my family, early mornings preparing for work, and consistently pushing through fatigue were part of my routine. Financial pressure also added to the challenge, as continuing my education while supporting a household required careful planning and prioritization. Being a first-generation college student added another layer of difficulty, as I had to navigate the academic system largely on my own without a built-in support network or clear guidance on how to manage the process. Despite these challenges, returning to school has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It has allowed me to rediscover my strengths, build confidence, and prove to myself that I am capable of achieving my goals regardless of the obstacles in my path. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA while balancing these responsibilities has been a reflection of my commitment, perseverance, and drive for excellence. Each accomplishment, whether completing a course or reaching an academic milestone, has reinforced my belief in the value of hard work and persistence. Additionally, my return to school has strengthened my ability to connect with and support my students. Many of them face their own challenges, and my experiences allow me to relate to them on a deeper level. I am able to demonstrate that success is not always a straight path, and that with determination and support, it is possible to overcome barriers and continue moving forward. Ultimately, the challenges I have faced in returning to school have shaped me into a more resilient, focused, and purpose-driven individual. They have reinforced my commitment to my education and to creating a better future for myself and my family. More importantly, they have strengthened my ability to serve others, as I continue to lead by example and show that growth and success are achievable at any stage in life.
    Minority Single Mother Scholarship
My journey has been shaped by resilience, determination, and a strong commitment to creating a better future for both myself and my family. As a single mother, pursuing my education has not been a linear or easy path, but it has been one of the most meaningful decisions of my life. Every step I have taken has been driven by the desire to break cycles, create opportunities, and show my children that perseverance and education can change the course of your life. One of the greatest challenges I have faced has been balancing the responsibilities of raising my children while continuing my education and building a career. There have been moments when time, finances, and emotional demands felt overwhelming. Managing coursework, work obligations, and family responsibilities required constant sacrifice, careful planning, and discipline. There were times when I had to study late at night after my children were asleep, or push through stress and exhaustion to stay committed to my goals. As a single parent, the weight of responsibility rests solely on me, which can make the journey feel isolating at times. However, these challenges have also been the most defining aspects of my growth. They have strengthened my resilience, time management, and determination. More importantly, they have deepened my sense of purpose. My children are my greatest motivation. I want them to see that challenges do not define you, it is how you respond to them that matters. I want them to understand the value of education, hard work, and persistence by witnessing it firsthand. What has been most fulfilling is seeing the progress I have made despite the obstacles. Earning my degrees, maintaining a high level of academic performance, and continuing to pursue my MBA while raising my family has been incredibly rewarding. It has reinforced my belief that growth is always possible, regardless of where you start. Professionally, being able to support and guide students, many of whom face similar struggles, has given my journey even greater meaning. I am not only improving my own life, but also making a difference in the lives of others. Through further education, I hope to uplift both myself and my family by creating long-term stability, opportunities, and generational impact. Advancing my education allows me to expand my career, increase my ability to provide, and serve as a role model for my children and future generations. My goal is not only financial security, but also the ability to give back, to use my knowledge and experiences to support others, particularly those facing barriers similar to my own. Ultimately, my journey as a single mother pursuing education is about perseverance, growth, and purpose. It is about building a future where my family thrives and where I can continue to uplift others along the way.

I am an education professional and academic leader with over a decade of experience serving students in secondary, post-secondary, and career-focused settings. My work is rooted in supporting student growth, building workforce readiness, and creating equitable learning environments. However, my commitment to serving those with special needs goes beyond my professional role, it is deeply connected to my personal experiences and my belief that every individual deserves the opportunity to succeed. As a teenager, I experienced homelessness and did not complete high school in a traditional setting. Earning my GED became a turning point in my life and shaped my passion for education. Later, as a first-generation college student, I navigated higher education without a clear roadmap. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of what it feels like to face barriers, feel overlooked, and struggle to see a path forward. While my challenges were different, they have allowed me to relate to and advocate for students with diverse learning and life needs, including those in special education. Throughout my career, I have worked closely with students who require additional academic, emotional, and behavioral support. I have seen firsthand how individualized instruction, patience, and consistency can transform a student’s confidence and ability to succeed. I believe that serving students with special needs requires more than instructional knowledge; it requires empathy, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to meeting each student where they are. I strive to create structured and supportive environments where students feel safe, valued, and capable of growth. I have also taught courses in areas such as culinary arts, hospitality, child development, personal finance, and employability skills. These career-focused subjects are especially important for students with special needs because they provide practical, hands-on learning opportunities that build independence and real-world skills. My goal is to continue integrating these approaches into my teaching, helping students develop not only academically, but also socially and professionally. I am particularly passionate about ensuring that students with special needs are prepared for life beyond the classroom, including employment, financial stability, and self-sufficiency. Looking ahead, I plan to expand my impact by continuing to develop my expertise in both education and business. My long-term goal is to teach and eventually create programs or a business that focuses on career readiness, life skills, and entrepreneurship for individuals with diverse learning needs. I want to build opportunities that extend beyond traditional classrooms, ensuring that individuals with special needs have access to resources that empower them to succeed in the workforce and in their communities. As a mother of three and a grandmother, service, patience, and advocacy are central to who I am. I bring those values into my work every day, and I am committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of my students. My goal is not only to educate, but to empower, helping individuals recognize their potential, overcome barriers, and build futures they are proud of.
    Future Green Leaders Scholarship
Sustainability is a priority in my field because education plays a critical role in shaping not only workforce readiness, but also the values and habits that students carry into their daily lives and future careers. In areas such as culinary arts, hospitality, and career and technical education, sustainability is not just an abstract concept, it is something that can be practiced, modeled, and applied in real, tangible ways. Teaching students how to reduce waste, use resources responsibly, and make environmentally conscious decisions prepares them to contribute to a more sustainable future both personally and professionally. In culinary arts specifically, sustainability is essential due to the significant impact the food industry has on the environment. Issues such as food waste, excessive packaging, and inefficient use of resources contribute to environmental harm. By prioritizing sustainability in culinary education, we can teach students practical strategies such as portion control, minimizing food waste, sourcing ingredients responsibly, and understanding the value of seasonal and local foods. These lessons not only reduce environmental impact but also align with industry trends, where sustainability is becoming increasingly important to employers and consumers alike. As an educator, I see my role as modeling and integrating these practices into everyday learning. In the classroom, I can incorporate lessons on waste reduction by teaching students how to repurpose ingredients, properly store food to extend its life, and measure accurately to avoid excess. I can also introduce discussions around cost efficiency, which connects sustainability to financial literacy, helping students understand that reducing waste is both environmentally responsible and economically beneficial. By connecting sustainability to real-world outcomes, I can make it meaningful and relevant to students. Looking toward the future, I plan to further expand my impact by teaching business and eventually creating my own educational business focused on entrepreneurship and career skills. Through this work, I intend to emphasize sustainable business practices, showing students and community members how environmental responsibility can be integrated into business models. This includes teaching concepts such as ethical sourcing, reducing operational waste, and making decisions that consider long-term environmental and community impact. Additionally, I hope to develop programs that educate individuals not only on how to succeed professionally, but also on how to make responsible choices that support sustainability in their homes, workplaces, and communities. Whether teaching culinary arts or business, I believe sustainability should be embedded into instruction, not treated as an afterthought. It is about building awareness, responsibility, and long-term thinking. Ultimately, sustainability is about stewardship—taking responsibility for the resources we have and making choices that protect opportunities for future generations. As an educator, I have the ability to influence how students think, act, and lead. By integrating sustainable practices into my teaching and future business endeavors, I can help develop individuals who are not only skilled and career-ready, but also mindful of their impact on the world around them.
    Michael Rudometkin Memorial Scholarship
I embody selflessness through my commitment to serving others with empathy, consistency, and purpose, especially in my role as an educator. For me, selflessness is not defined by one-time actions, but by the daily choices I make to prioritize the well-being, success, and growth of others, even when it requires additional time, patience, or personal sacrifice. One of the most meaningful ways I demonstrate selflessness is through the support I provide to my students, particularly those facing significant life challenges. Many of my students come from difficult backgrounds, including unstable housing, financial hardship, or limited family support, circumstances similar to what I experienced as a teenager. Because I understand those struggles, I make it a priority to be a consistent and reliable presence in their lives. I have stayed after hours to provide extra academic support, helped students navigate personal challenges, and connected them with resources they might not have known were available. In many cases, I have been someone they could trust and rely on when they felt they had no one else. In my role as an Academic Coordinator, I have worked one-on-one with students who were at risk of failing or dropping out. Rather than simply focusing on their academic performance, I took the time to understand their circumstances and identify underlying barriers. For example, I worked with a student who was struggling academically due to responsibilities at home and lack of stability. By providing flexible support, consistent encouragement, and helping them build time management and coping skills, I was able to help that student regain confidence and successfully complete their coursework. Moments like these reflect my belief that every student deserves individualized attention and a genuine investment in their success. Beyond the classroom, my selflessness extends into my broader approach to service. I strive to create programs and learning opportunities that meet students where they are and prepare them for real-world success. Whether through teaching personal finance, employability skills, or culinary and hospitality courses, I focus on equipping students with practical tools that will benefit them long after they leave my classroom. As a mother of three and a grandmother, selflessness is also deeply rooted in who I am personally. I understand the importance of care, patience, and sacrifice, and I carry those values into my professional life. I do not separate who I am from what I do, my work is an extension of my desire to uplift others and make a meaningful difference. Ultimately, I embody selflessness by consistently choosing to invest in others, advocate for those who may not have a voice, and create opportunities for individuals to succeed
    Future Nonprofit Leaders Award
I want to pursue a career in the nonprofit sector because it aligns closely with my personal values, lived experiences, and long-term commitment to service. Throughout my life, I have experienced and witnessed the impact that barriers, such as poverty, lack of access to education, and limited resources, can have on individuals and families. Because of this, I am deeply motivated to be part of solutions that create opportunities, provide support, and empower people to build better futures. My passion for nonprofit work is rooted in my own journey. As a teenager who experienced homelessness and later navigated higher education as a first-generation college student, I understand how critical access, guidance, and advocacy are. Nonprofit organizations often serve as a bridge for individuals who may otherwise fall through the cracks, and I am committed to contributing to that mission. I want to be part of systems that not only provide immediate support, but also create long-term pathways for success. Professionally, my background in education has strengthened my desire to work in the nonprofit sector. I have spent over a decade supporting students through academic challenges, career preparation, and personal development. Many of the students I work with face barriers similar to those I encountered: economic hardship, lack of mentorship, or limited exposure to career opportunities. Through this work, I have seen how targeted programs, resources, and intentional support can completely change a student’s trajectory. Nonprofit organizations are uniquely positioned to deliver these types of services in meaningful and impactful ways. My goal is to focus on areas such as education access, workforce development, and financial literacy. I believe these are critical components in breaking cycles of poverty and creating sustainable change. Through my work, I hope to develop and implement programs that equip individuals with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in both education and the workforce. I am especially passionate about ensuring that underserved populations, including first-generation students and those facing adversity, have access to opportunities that promote independence and long-term stability. In addition, my long-term vision of teaching business and eventually starting my own business aligns with the mission of many nonprofit organizations that focus on entrepreneurship and economic empowerment. I hope to use this knowledge to support community-based initiatives that help individuals start businesses, manage finances, and build generational stability. I believe that education, when combined with practical application, is one of the most powerful tools for transformation. Ultimately, I want my work in the nonprofit sector to create a positive and lasting impact by helping individuals see their potential, access opportunities, and achieve meaningful success. I am driven by the belief that everyone deserves a chance to thrive, regardless of their starting point. Through service, leadership, and continued growth, I am committed to making a difference in the communities I serve.

I am passionate about the special education teaching profession because it aligns deeply with both my personal experiences and my professional purpose. At its core, special education is about meeting students where they are, recognizing their unique strengths, and helping them overcome barriers to reach their full potential. This mission is one I connect with on a personal level. As someone who experienced homelessness as a teenager and did not complete high school in a traditional setting, I understand what it feels like to face challenges that can make success seem out of reach. While my circumstances were different, I share a common understanding with many students in special education, feeling overlooked, misunderstood, or defined by obstacles rather than potential. These experiences shaped my belief that every student deserves patience, support, and an environment where they feel seen, valued, and capable. My passion is also rooted in my professional experience. Throughout my career, I have worked closely with diverse student populations, including those who require additional academic, emotional, or behavioral support. I have seen firsthand how individualized attention, structured guidance, and consistent encouragement can transform a student’s confidence and ability to succeed. Special education provides the opportunity to take a personalized approach to instruction, which is essential for helping students build both skills and self-worth. In the classroom, I value creating a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and learning from their mistakes. I believe that structure and high expectations, when paired with empathy and understanding, allow students to grow in meaningful ways. Special education teaching allows me to apply this philosophy daily by adapting instruction, using creative strategies, and celebrating progress in all forms, no matter how small. Additionally, my work in career and technical education has shown me the importance of preparing all students for life beyond school. I am especially passionate about ensuring that students in special education have access to workforce readiness, financial literacy, and real-world skills that promote independence and long-term success. Every student deserves the opportunity to build a future they are proud of, and special education teachers play a critical role in making that possible. Ultimately, my passion for special education comes from a deep commitment to equity, advocacy, and service. I believe this profession is not just about teaching content, but about changing lives. It is about helping students see their own potential, providing them with the tools to succeed, and reminding them that their challenges do not define them. That is the impact I am driven to make, and it is why I am committed to this field.

I am a dedicated education professional and academic leader with over a decade of experience in secondary and post-secondary education, as well as state government. My work centers on student support, workforce readiness, and career-focused instruction, with a strong commitment to helping individuals overcome barriers, develop practical skills, and achieve long-term success. While my professional experience has shaped my skills, it is my personal journey that has most deeply influenced my purpose and direction. As a teenager, I experienced homelessness and did not complete high school in a traditional setting. During that time, I faced uncertainty and instability, but I also developed resilience, independence, and determination. Earning my GED became a turning point in my life. It was not simply an academic accomplishment, but a decision to take control of my future. From that moment forward, I committed myself to building a life rooted in growth, education, and service to others. As a first-generation college student, I entered higher education without a clear roadmap. Navigating systems, expectations, and opportunities on my own was challenging, but it also strengthened my perseverance and self-discipline. These experiences now allow me to relate to and support students who may feel uncertain or underserved. I understand the importance of guidance, encouragement, and access, and I strive to provide those to every student I work with. I went on to earn my Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences, graduating magna cum laude, as well as an Associate of Arts. I am currently pursuing my Master of Business Administration and maintaining a 4.0 GPA, reflecting my commitment to academic excellence and continuous improvement. I also hold professional teaching certifications in both New Mexico and Texas. My long-term goal is to teach business, where I can combine academic knowledge with real-world experience to better prepare students for economic independence and career success. Additionally, I aspire to start my own business focused on teaching entrepreneurship, business skills, and financial literacy. Through this work, I hope to extend my impact beyond the classroom and into the broader community. Prior to my career in education and government, I worked in a wide variety of roles, including fast food, security, investigative work, administrative support, bartending, and bar ownership. These experiences taught me valuable transferable skills such as communication, adaptability, problem-solving, and resilience. More importantly, they allow me to connect classroom concepts to real-world application, helping students see the relevance of what they are learning. I have also studied American Sign Language, which has strengthened my ability to support diverse learners and foster inclusive environments. Throughout my career, I have served as an Academic Coordinator, educator, and administrator. I have designed programs, provided one-on-one student support, and facilitated workshops focused on academic success and career readiness. I have taught courses in hospitality, culinary arts, child development, personal finance, employability skills, and leadership, always emphasizing practical application and student engagement. My experience in state government has further strengthened my organizational and operational skills, enabling me to manage responsibilities effectively and support institutional goals. As a mother of three and a grandmother, my commitment to education extends beyond my profession, it is part of who I am. I lead with empathy, structure, and purpose, creating environments where students feel safe, supported, and capable of success.
