Bio

Hi there! My name is Faith, and an international student from Kenya. I am currently pursuing a nursing degree, I am so passionate about making a difference in people's lives. Being part of the Nursing program has allowed me to develop strong skills and a better understanding of patient care. I am dedicated to learning and being able to provide quality care to individuals of all backgrounds. As an international student, I have faced unique challenges along my education journey. Adapting to a new culture, being far away from family and friends, and navigating a different education system are some of the hardships I have encountered. However, these challenges have only made me stronger, fueling my determination to succeed in the nursing program. I have developed virtues such as resilience, patience, and a strong sense of independence which I believe are in line with the nursing career. I remain committed to my studies despite all the obstacles that come my way. I must make a positive impact in the healthcare field. Thank you for considering my application!

Coming to the United States to pursue my degree has always been my dream and also to any other student in my home country. I was very lucky and excited that I got a chance to have a taste of the quality education that we always had been told of: I mean who would not like to have a reputable degree? All was well until I came to America, I started facing a different side of life, all alone in a foreign country, with no friends yet, I did not know where to start nor what to do. Everything and everyone was new and it was so hard for me. I was becoming an adult and I was experiencing a lot of transitions, it was so overwhelming that I now had to do everything by myself being far away from my family. It became worse even when my parents had a financial crisis and couldn't send me funds for my expenses also due to the increasing money rates it was hard for them to send money and even the little that they would send was not enough for me. I was forced to take up one of the on-campus jobs so that I could sustain myself and at times I have to make sacrifices so that I can at least save for my school fees. I know I have a choice of going back to my home country but what benefit will it be? Not that my parents have the money to fund my education there! Going back home will make me a life failure something that I do not want. I really what to make my community proud. I want to make an impactful change in my country. Looking at what happened to my late grandmother I cannot just give up: my grandmother died a while ago ailing from cancer, It was discovered late and when we went to seek treatment it was said that she had to travel abroad but unfortunately we did not have the funds so she died. Since then I promised myself that I will not let anyone else around die of any ailment. that is why I want to become and a nurse and even someday a doctor. The US has invested a lot in the medical and health sector I find it to be a foundation for the success of my dream. I believe that this scholarship will contribute greatly to my fulfillment. I have not been mentally stable because I don't know if I will push through my four years or if I will just have to return to my country.

Giving back to my community has always been my dream since I was young, I have always wanted to do something that will change not only my life but also the lives of those around me. The Past few years have been so challenging, we have been hit so hard as a country because of the incompetence in our medical field. People are dying because as a country, although we have the personnel, we lack the types of equipment that facilitate the success of our personnel. It is saddening that as a country, we still have to send patients out of the country to get treatment and this might not happen to all the patients because of various reasons. Some people are not lucky enough to have the amount of money required to get treatment abroad and some may have the money but encounter long or delayed flights that may accelerate an illness, especially during emergencies and the patient may end up dying on the way. I tend to blame myself for the death of my grandmother, I wish I could do something to help her other than watching her die. She had been ailing from cancer and it was so unfortunate that we discovered that when it was a little bit late. As I said before we do not have the equipment in our country, the doctors said that our grandmother was required to go outside of the country to get treated. Being from a humble background we could not raise the amount that was required in time, and she passed away. This built the urge within me that I had to do something soon. It is painful that we are forced to watch our loved ones die simply because we lack the major resources to have their health restored. For how long we are going to see our people die without us doing anything(Not because we do not want to but because we are not able)?. That is why I decided to come abroad so that later I can take with me all the knowledge, skills, and resources that I would have acquired. I promised myself that I won’t allow myself to lose anyone else close to me and that is why I hope to build a health facility that will contain all the resources that we go looking for abroad and provide better health care to the community. I hope to go home having obtained a quality degree as a registered nurse and be privileged to provide my services to the ministry of health in my country. I appreciate you reading through to the end and will appreciate it more if I get the scholarship. I have a dream and I know that with your help I will accomplish my goals.
