My father once said, "If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life". I remember being a little girl watching my dad grab his camera and talk about how beautiful the soft light was. I never appreciated how beautiful that light was until I was old enough to see the softness it carried. Now that I have taken my fathers footsteps into the film and photography world I am proud to say that I can sit here and say that his work carries admiration. My favorite piece was one he caught on film back in the day, I remember he told me that TIMES magazine had wanted the piece. TIMES magazine wanted a piece my father had worked on, how many people can say that? The light catches the shadow and contrast so elegantly, almost as if the picture was a painting. To this day I will say this is one of the most interesting pieces my eyes have seen, and I don't say that as his daughter. I say that because credit needs to be given where it's deserved.
Growing up watching somebody so close to me that created literally works of art, made me have a larger appreciation to not only photographers but any other artists out there. Think about how many years society has talked about world wide known artist, how much the those art pieces go for. They go for multi millions and are talked about by thousands because the art is appreciated. It is unfortunate how many artist there are that go unnoticed, and I'm not talking about fame. I am talking about the appreciation when someone admires your work. The greatest feeling I can express is when someone tells me why they love my work. I don't mean the compliment of " it's pretty" or "your model is beautiful" the compliments of how the light catches the eyes or how the contrast and shadow lays just right. Photography has only begun for me, and I know if dedication is there along with admiration for the art I will go far in life.
There is beauty in people, nature, animals, even objects. If you look at something and create a vision behind it you are able to express that admiration through your work to others. Some might have a harder time seeing it beneath surface level but isn't that the beautiful part showing others what's beautiful.
Financially I am supported by my single mother, she is so proud of me for being her only child that attends college. I see the financial burden my education puts on her even though there is not a day goes by that she tell me that it will all be worth it. I wish to make her proud but also take the stress and worry off her shoulders.
