My name is Eva Shevchuk, and I am an international student pursuing my nursing degree.
I am deeply committed to my studies and excited to work as a nurse, where I can serve and give back to my community.
In August 2024, my husband, Alex, was diagnosed with high-grade B-cell lymphoma, stage 2E. His treatment has required extensive care, including a bowel resection and an ileostomy. For the past two months, I have been balancing the demands of nursing school, supporting Alex’s medical journey, and caring for our two daughters, ages 14 and 3. Alex has now begun chemotherapy, and though the initial results are encouraging, we are facing substantial financial hardship due to the loss of his income as our family's primary provider.
This diagnosis came as a sudden shock, especially as we were beginning to rebuild. Prior to this, our family had endured severe financial setbacks stemming from Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which led to the expropriation of Alex’s business by Russian authorities. Despite these hardships, I have maintained strong academic performance, and my children are happy and adjusting well.
I would appreciate help to navigate this time and allow me to complete my degree, empowering me to make a meaningful contribution to our community.
