My name is Eve, and I am a proud Haitian American woman, a first-generation college student, and someone who is deeply committed to making a difference in my community. I am currently pursuing a degree in social work with the goal of becoming a clinical counseling psychologist. My passion for mental health and advocacy is rooted in personal experience. It comes from growing up watching my mother carry the weight of the world on her shoulders to give me a better future, and from seeing the lasting effects of unhealed trauma in the lives of the people I care about. From a young age, I learned how to be strong. When I was just seven years old, my mother became my main support system. She worked hard, made endless sacrifices, and showed me what determination and love look like. Her strength inspired me, but there were still many challenges I faced emotionally. In Haitian culture, mental health is often not talked about. You are expected to be tough, to stay quiet, and to keep moving. But as I grew older, I realized that healing does not come from silence. It comes from being seen, supported, and given the space to process pain in a healthy way. That is why I chose to study social work. I want to be that safe space for others, especially children and families who have experienced trauma, poverty, or mental health struggles. I want to help people who feel unseen or misunderstood, and make sure they know they are not alone. I plan to work directly with underserved communities in Orlando, particularly with Haitian immigrants and youth, providing culturally sensitive mental health services and resources that meet their unique needs. This scholarship would be a tremendous help in continuing my education and turning these goals into reality. As a working student, I balance school, responsibilities at home, and my growing business, which focuses on translation, job support, and immigration services. Financial support through this scholarship would allow me to stay focused on my studies, take advantage of opportunities for growth, and relieve the stress of worrying about tuition, textbooks, and other school-related expenses. In the future, I hope to open a community resource center that offers mental health services, job placement, immigration assistance, and mentorship. I also want to expand my business, IET Supportive Services, into a staffing agency that uplifts and empowers people in my community, especially those who face language or cultural barriers. I want to build something that helps people move forward with confidence, healing, and support. Receiving this scholarship would not just help me financially. It would give me the ability to keep pushing toward a career that is centered on giving back and helping others. Everything I do is inspired by where I came from, who raised me, and who I want to become. I am truly thankful for the opportunity to be considered, and I am committed to using my education and voice to serve others with compassion and purpose.

Choosing to pursue a degree in social work was not something I took lightly. For me, it was not just about picking a career. It was about stepping into a purpose. I have always known that I wanted to help people, especially those who feel overlooked or silenced. Growing up in a Haitian American household where strength was expected and emotions were often kept inside, I know what it feels like to be unsupported when dealing with real-life struggles. That is what pushed me toward this path. I want to be a voice for those who do not always feel heard and a support system for people trying their best to get through difficult situations. At first, I believed social work was mostly about helping individuals through direct services like counseling, case management, or connecting people to resources. While that is definitely part of it, since starting the program, I have realized how layered and powerful social work really is. It is not just about helping people survive. It is about helping entire communities feel empowered, safe, and valued. I have learned that advocacy, policy change, and community outreach all play a huge role in building long-term solutions. That deeper understanding has only made me more passionate and committed to the field. One of the biggest reasons I chose this path was because of my own life experiences. I watched my mother work tirelessly to give me a better future, even when we did not have a lot. I have seen family members struggle with mental health issues, language barriers, and not having access to the right resources. I know what it feels like to need support but not know where to turn. Those moments helped shape who I am and gave me a deep desire to make a difference in the lives of others facing the same things. My plan is to work with underserved communities, especially Haitian immigrants and families in Orlando who are dealing with trauma, poverty, or lack of mental health support. I want to work with children, teens, and families and provide culturally sensitive services that reflect their realities and speak their language. Being able to offer services in both English and Haitian Creole will help build trust and connection. My goal is to help people feel seen, understood, and supported. In the future, I hope to open a community center that provides wraparound services like mental health counseling, immigration help, job readiness programs, and support for families. I also want to mentor young people who are interested in social work or psychology, especially those who come from similar backgrounds. I want to remind them that their personal challenges do not hold them back. In fact, those experiences can be what make them strong, compassionate professionals. This scholarship would give me the support I need to keep moving forward with my education and goals. Social work is not just a degree for me. It is my calling, and I plan to use it to give back to my community and make sure others feel less alone and more hopeful.

Early childhood trauma can shape someone’s whole life. When kids go through things like abuse, neglect, or unstable home environments, it can affect their emotions, how they think, and even how they build relationships as adults. A lot of people walk around carrying pain from their childhood that they never had the chance to deal with. That’s why I’m pursuing a career in clinical counseling psychology to help people heal from that kind of trauma and build a better future for themselves. I’ve seen firsthand what early trauma can do, not just in others but in myself. My mom has been my world since I was seven, raising me mostly on her own. She gave me so much love and strength, but that didn’t take away all the hard times we faced. There were moments that left me feeling anxious, unsure of myself, and emotionally shut down. Growing up Haitian American, I also saw how mental health wasn’t really talked about in our community. There was this unspoken pressure to stay strong, keep quiet, and just move on. But the truth is, staying silent doesn’t make the pain go away. It just buries it deeper. I learned to keep my feelings to myself because that’s what I thought I had to do. It wasn’t until later in life that I started to realize how much those unspoken emotions were affecting my confidence, relationships, and sense of identity. That’s when I knew I wanted to be part of the solution. I want to help others understand that their trauma doesn’t define them and that it’s okay to ask for help. That’s what drives me every day. In my career as a clinical counseling psychologist, I plan to work with children, teens, and families who have experienced trauma. My goal is to provide culturally sensitive, compassionate care that meets people where they are. I want to create a safe space for people to talk about what they’ve been through without fear of being judged or misunderstood. I also want to educate families especially those in immigrant or underserved communities about mental health and the importance of emotional support. In the long term, I hope to open a community mental health center in Orlando that focuses on trauma-informed care for marginalized groups, especially Black and Haitian families. I want to offer counseling, support groups, and workshops that focus on emotional development, healing, and building resilience. I also want to provide interpretation services and translation support to help break language and cultural barriers that often stop people from seeking help. This scholarship would give me the financial support I need to continue my education and stay focused on my goals. I’m committed to using my experiences and my voice to help others heal. My dream is to turn pain into purpose, not just for myself, but for every child, teen, or adult who is still trying to make sense of the hurt they’ve carried for too long. I believe healing is possible, and I want to be part of that journey for as many people as I can.

As someone who has faced adversity and overcome challenges in life, I can relate to Malgorzata's struggles on a personal level. Like her, I have encountered obstacles and setbacks along my journey, but I have also learned valuable lessons and gained strength from overcoming them. Malgorzata's determination to pursue her dreams despite facing financial hardships and societal expectations resonates with me deeply. As a Black Haitian American from a single-parent household, I have experienced firsthand the impact of socioeconomic barriers and systemic inequalities on opportunities for advancement. My mother, who became a single mom at a young age, instilled in me the importance of resilience, hard work, and perseverance. She sacrificed her own dreams to ensure that my siblings and I had access to education and opportunities for success. And I am reminded that with courage, perseverance, and a steadfast belief in oneself, anything is possible.

My journey with mental health has deeply influenced my goals, relationships, and understanding of the world. Losing my father at a tender age of 7 while we were on vacation in Haiti was a pivotal moment that shaped my perspective on life. Growing up as the youngest of four in a single-parent household, my mother, a Haitian immigrant, took on the role of both parents. She was a teenage mom herself, but her resilience and determination to provide for our family left a lasting impression on me. Witnessing my mother's strength and sacrifices instilled in me a profound appreciation for the importance of family and the resilience of the human spirit. Her unwavering support and unconditional love served as a beacon of hope during challenging times, and her emphasis on prioritizing the well-being of our family before pursuing my own dreams left a lasting impact on my values and priorities. Navigating the complexities of grief and loss at a young age also heightened my awareness of mental health struggles. It taught me the importance of empathy and understanding in supporting others facing similar challenges. As a Black Haitian American, mental health has always been a taboo topic within my community, but my personal experiences have fueled my passion for destigmatizing conversations around mental health and promoting access to resources and support. In terms of my goals, my journey with mental health has inspired me to pursue a career path focused on advocating for mental health awareness and providing support to those in need. Whether through counseling, advocacy work, or community outreach initiatives, I am committed to making a positive impact in the lives of others by promoting mental wellness and resilience. On a personal level, my experiences with mental health have deepened my relationships and fostered a greater sense of empathy and connection with others. They have taught me the importance of vulnerability and authenticity in building meaningful connections and supporting loved ones through their own struggles. Moreover, my journey with mental health has broadened my understanding of the world and the diverse experiences of individuals within it. It has underscored the universality of mental health challenges and the need for collective efforts to address them on both individual and societal levels. In essence, my journey with mental health, shaped by my experiences as a Black Haitian American from a single-parent household, has deeply influenced my goals, relationships, and worldview. It has fueled my passion for promoting mental wellness, resilience, and equity in all aspects of life.

Losing my father at such a young age was a pivotal moment in my life that profoundly shaped my perspective and priorities. As the youngest of four siblings, his absence left a void that I felt keenly throughout my childhood and beyond. His sudden passing during a vacation in Haiti was a stark reminder of life's unpredictability and the fragility of our existence. In the aftermath of this loss, I found myself grappling with profound questions about the meaning of life and what truly matters. It made me acutely aware of the fleeting nature of time and the importance of cherishing every moment with loved ones. This experience instilled in me a deep sense of resilience and determination to honor my father's memory by living a purposeful and meaningful life. Reflecting on this loss, I realized that I wanted to "fight" for the things that truly mattered to me: family, education, and making a positive impact in my community. My father's passing inspired me to strive for excellence in all areas of my life, knowing that he would have wanted nothing less for his children. His absence also underscored the importance of mental health and emotional well-being. Coping with grief and navigating the complexities of loss at a young age taught me the importance of seeking support and processing emotions in healthy ways. It ignited a passion within me to advocate for mental health awareness and support systems, particularly within the Black community where discussions around mental health are often stigmatized. Ultimately, the loss of my father propelled me to embrace life with a sense of purpose and determination. It taught me to cherish my loved ones, pursue my goals with unwavering dedication, and strive to make a positive difference in the world. Though his physical presence may be gone, his legacy lives on through the values he instilled in me and the impact he continues to have on my journey.

To enhance access to mental health care, particularly within Black communities, I envision establishing culturally competent mental health clinics in neighborhoods with significant Black populations. These clinics would offer specialized services tailored to the unique experiences and needs of Black individuals. Furthermore, advocating for increased representation of Black mental health professionals within these clinics is crucial. Having providers who understand the cultural nuances and challenges faced by Black individuals can help foster trust and rapport, ultimately encouraging more people to seek help. Additionally, destigmatizing mental health within the Black community is essential. This could involve organizing community events, workshops, and support groups that openly discuss mental health topics and encourage dialogue. Collaborating with local leaders, churches, and community organizations to promote mental health awareness and education is key. Moreover, exploring alternative and holistic approaches to mental health care that resonate with Black cultural practices and beliefs is important. This might include incorporating traditional healing methods, such as storytelling, art therapy, and spiritual practices, into mental health interventions. Overall, the goal is to address the specific needs and challenges faced by Black individuals, working towards breaking down barriers to mental health care and ensuring that everyone has the support they need to thrive.

Life as an immigrant and foreign student has been a journey filled with both challenges and triumphs. One particular challenge I faced was adapting to a new educational system and environment. Coming from Haiti, where educational resources are limited and access to quality education is a luxury afforded to few, I found myself grappling with the rigorous demands of academia in the United States. The transition was daunting, as I navigated unfamiliar coursework, cultural norms, and language barriers. However, amidst the challenges, I discovered a resilience within myself that I never knew existed. I realized that my upbringing in Haiti, where perseverance and determination were ingrained values, had equipped me with the fortitude to overcome obstacles. With unwavering determination, I pushed myself to excel academically, seeking out additional support and resources to bridge the gap between my past education and the standards of excellence in my new environment. Through this experience, I learned the importance of resourcefulness and resilience in the face of adversity. I also gained a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices my family made to provide me with opportunities for a better future. Their unwavering support and belief in my abilities fueled my determination to succeed, serving as a constant source of motivation during challenging times. Moreover, my journey as an immigrant and foreign student has taught me valuable lessons about cultural diversity and the power of embracing difference. Interacting with peers from diverse backgrounds has broadened my perspective and enriched my understanding of the world. It has taught me to approach life with an open mind and a willingness to learn from others, regardless of their cultural or socioeconomic background. Looking ahead, I am inspired to pursue a career path that allows me to make a meaningful impact in my community and beyond. I am passionate about leveraging my experiences and education to advocate for underrepresented communities, particularly immigrants and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. I am committed to breaking down barriers to education and empowering others to reach their full potential, just as I have been empowered on my own journey. In conclusion, my journey as an immigrant and foreign student has been transformative, shaping not only my personal and academic growth but also my aspirations for the future. I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and remain steadfast in my dedication to creating positive change in the world. It’s been a wild journey.

As a Black student from a low-income background, pursuing higher education has been both a dream and a challenge for me. Growing up in a disadvantaged neighborhood, I witnessed firsthand the disparities in access to quality education and the limited opportunities available to those from marginalized communities. Despite facing numerous obstacles along the way, I remained determined to break the cycle of poverty and achieve my academic and career goals. From a young age, I developed a passion for learning and a strong work ethic, driven by the belief that education is the key to unlocking a brighter future. However, as the first in my family to pursue a college degree, I encountered financial barriers that threatened to derail my aspirations. With limited resources and financial support, I struggled to afford tuition, textbooks, and other essential expenses associated with higher education. Despite these challenges, I remained steadfast in my commitment to academic excellence and community involvement. Throughout high school, I volunteered at local organizations, mentored younger students, and participated in extracurricular activities to broaden my horizons and make a positive impact in my community. These experiences not only enriched my personal growth but also reinforced my determination to overcome adversity and pursue my dreams. Receiving this scholarship would be a game-changer for me and my family, providing much-needed financial assistance to pursue my higher education goals. With this scholarship, I will have the opportunity to focus on my studies, gain valuable hands-on experience through internships and research opportunities, and ultimately achieve my goal. Overall, receiving this scholarship would not only provide me with the financial support I need to pursue my education goals but also serve as a source of motivation and encouragement to continue striving for excellence. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and look forward to making the most of it as I embark on this next chapter of my academic journey.

I find immense inspiration in the life and work of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress and the first Black candidate for a major party's nomination for President of the United States. Shirley Chisholm's journey from her humble beginnings in Brooklyn, New York, to becoming a trailblazer in American politics is nothing short of remarkable. As the daughter of immigrant parents from the Caribbean island of Barbados, Chisholm faced discrimination and adversity from an early age. However, she refused to let societal barriers hold her back, and she went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in sociology from Brooklyn College and a Master's degree in early childhood education from Columbia University. What sets Shirley Chisholm apart for me is her unwavering commitment to social justice and equality. Throughout her career in public service, she advocated tirelessly for the rights of marginalized communities, including women, people of color, and the poor. As the founder of the Congressional Black Caucus and the National Women's Political Caucus, Chisholm worked to amplify the voices of underrepresented groups in the political arena and to advance policies that addressed systemic inequalities. Chisholm's groundbreaking presidential campaign in 1972 shattered barriers and challenged the status quo in American politics. Despite facing immense opposition and skepticism, she fearlessly declared her candidacy for the Democratic Party's nomination, becoming the first woman and the first Black person to seek the presidency from a major political party. Though she ultimately did not win the nomination, her historic campaign paved the way for future generations of women and people of color to pursue higher office. What resonates most with me about Shirley Chisholm's legacy is her unapologetic embrace of her identity and her refusal to conform to societal expectations. As a Black woman navigating predominantly white and male-dominated spaces, she never hesitated to speak truth to power and to advocate for the issues that mattered most to her constituents. Her famous motto, "Unbought and Unbossed," serves as a powerful reminder of her fierce independence and determination to challenge the status quo. In my own life, I strive to embody Shirley Chisholm's spirit of courage, resilience, and activism. Her example inspires me to use my voice and my platform to advocate for social justice, to fight against systemic injustices, and to uplift those whose voices are often silenced or marginalized. By following in her footsteps and carrying forward her legacy, I hope to contribute to a more equitable and inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their race, gender, or background.

As a Black individual whose parents are immigrants, I am keenly aware of the intersectionality of social justice issues that impact marginalized communities like mine. Growing up in a household shaped by the immigrant experience and witnessing the struggles faced by both immigrants and Black individuals, I have developed a deep sense of empathy and advocacy for a range of social justice causes. One of the social justice issues that holds particular significance to me is immigration reform and immigrant rights. As the child of immigrants, I have seen firsthand the challenges and barriers that immigrants face in pursuit of a better life. From navigating complex immigration policies to confronting discrimination and xenophobia, immigrants often encounter systemic injustices that hinder their ability to thrive and contribute to society. By advocating for comprehensive immigration reform and policies that prioritize family reunification, protect the rights of undocumented immigrants, and provide pathways to citizenship, we can work towards creating a more just and inclusive society where immigrants are treated with dignity and respect. In addition to immigration reform, racial justice and combating systemic racism are fundamental social justice issues that resonate deeply with me. As a Black individual, I have experienced and witnessed the pervasive effects of racism and discrimination in various aspects of life, from interactions with law enforcement to disparities in education and employment. The legacy of slavery, segregation, and ongoing racial injustice continues to shape the experiences of Black people in America, perpetuating inequalities and hindering progress towards racial equality. By actively engaging in anti-racism work, advocating for police reform, and promoting equity and inclusion in all spaces, we can work towards dismantling systemic racism and creating a more equitable society where all individuals are treated fairly and justly regardless of their race or ethnicity. Furthermore, LGBTQ+ rights and gender equality are social justice issues that are important to me as an ally and advocate. LGBTQ+ individuals face discrimination and marginalization based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, leading to disparities in access to healthcare, employment, and housing. By supporting LGBTQ+ rights, fighting against discrimination, and promoting inclusive policies and practices, we can work towards creating a society where everyone is free to live authentically and without fear of discrimination or prejudice. Ultimately, getting involved in social justice issues is important because it allows us to stand up for what is right, advocate for those who are marginalized or oppressed, and work towards creating a more just and equitable world for all. By raising awareness, mobilizing communities, and advocating for change, we can make a meaningful impact and create a better future for generations to come.

Being a teen parent or being raised by teen parents has profoundly influenced my life and shaped my goals and aspirations in significant ways. One of the primary ways being a teen parent has impacted me is in my approach to education. Despite the added responsibilities of parenthood, I was determined to pursue my education and create a better future for myself and my child. Witnessing the importance my parents placed on education, despite their own challenges, instilled in me a strong belief in the power of knowledge and the opportunities it can provide. This belief served as a driving force behind my academic endeavors, motivating me to excel in school and pursue higher education opportunities. Furthermore, being a teen parent has shaped my career aspirations. I recognize the significance of financial stability and providing a secure future for my family, which has fueled my ambition to build a successful career. I am driven not only by personal ambition but also by a desire to create a better life for my child and break the cycle of hardship that may have been present in my own family. This motivation has guided my career choices and inspired me to work diligently towards achieving my professional goals. In addition to influencing my educational and career pursuits, being a teen parent has also impacted my perspective on relationships and family dynamics. I have learned firsthand the importance of strong familial bonds and the value of creating a supportive and nurturing environment for my own family. This realization has influenced my goals to prioritize family life and strive to be a loving and involved parent, despite the challenges that may arise. Overall, being a teen parent has instilled in me resilience, determination, and a strong sense of responsibility. It has taught me the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity and the value of hard work in achieving my goals. Through my experiences as a teen parent, I have learned valuable life lessons that have shaped my aspirations for the future. I am committed to creating a better life for myself and my family, and I am confident that my experiences will continue to guide me as I pursue my goals and strive for success.

As a non-traditional student, my path to pursuing higher education has been marked by a series of unique circumstances and challenges that distinguish my journey from that of traditional college students. One significant aspect that sets me apart is the presence of various life responsibilities that demand my attention alongside my academic pursuits. Unlike many traditional students who transition directly from high school to college, I have had to navigate the complexities of balancing full-time employment, familial obligations, or other caregiving duties while pursuing my educational goals. Juggling these responsibilities requires a high level of time management, organization, and resilience to stay focused on my academic endeavors. Additionally, I may have experienced a gap in my education, either due to personal reasons or financial constraints. This hiatus from formal education provided me with valuable life experiences and insights, but re-entering the academic sphere after a break presents its own set of challenges. It requires me to readjust to the rigors of academic coursework and to adapt to changes in educational technology and pedagogy that may have occurred during my absence. My background and life experiences also contribute to my status as a non-traditional student. Coming from a diverse cultural, socioeconomic, or professional background, I bring a unique perspective to the classroom that enriches the learning environment for myself and my peers. My diverse experiences shape my worldview and influence the way I approach academic challenges and opportunities. Flexibility is another key aspect that characterizes my educational journey as a non-traditional student. I may require accommodations and adjustments to accommodate my existing commitments and responsibilities. Whether it's accessing online courses, evening classes, or part-time study options, having flexibility in my academic schedule allows me to pursue my education while meeting my other obligations effectively. Now, regarding the scholarship, it plays a crucial role in supporting my educational aspirations and helping me achieve my academic goals. As a non-traditional student, I may face financial barriers that hinder my ability to afford tuition, textbooks, and other educational expenses. The scholarship provides me with the financial assistance I need to alleviate some of these burdens and focus more fully on my studies. Furthermore, receiving this scholarship is not just about the financial support; it's also about validation and recognition of my hard work, dedication, and potential as a student. Knowing that my efforts are being acknowledged and rewarded motivates me to continue striving for excellence in my academic pursuits. With the help of this scholarship, I can pursue my educational goals with greater confidence and determination, knowing that I have the support and encouragement of the scholarship committee behind me. In conclusion, as a non-traditional student, I bring a unique set of experiences, challenges, and aspirations to my educational journey. The scholarship will serve as a valuable resource in helping me overcome financial obstacles and pursue my academic goals with greater focus, determination, and confidence.

To achieve this ambitious goal, I intend to embark on a multifaceted journey that encompasses various aspects of sustainable living, environmental advocacy, and community engagement. My approach will be rooted in a deep understanding of the interconnectedness between human well-being and the health of the environment. First and foremost, I will prioritize the promotion of sustainable living practices within my community. This includes advocating for the adoption of eco-friendly habits such as reducing waste, conserving energy, and minimizing carbon footprint. Through educational workshops, social media campaigns, and community events, I will raise awareness about the environmental impact of everyday choices and empower individuals to make more sustainable decisions in their daily lives. One of the key pillars of my approach will be to champion initiatives that prioritize environmental conservation and restoration. I plan to actively participate in local clean-up efforts, tree planting campaigns, and habitat restoration projects. By volunteering my time and resources to these endeavors, I aim to contribute to the preservation of natural ecosystems and biodiversity in my community, thereby fostering a healthier and more resilient environment for future generations. In addition to physical conservation efforts, I recognize the importance of promoting mental and emotional well-being as an integral component of overall wellness. Research has shown that spending time in nature, practicing mindfulness, and engaging in outdoor activities can have profound positive effects on mental health. Therefore, I will work to create opportunities for individuals to connect with nature and experience the therapeutic benefits of outdoor environments. This may involve organizing nature walks, mindfulness workshops, or community gardening projects that promote a deeper connection with the natural world. On a global scale, I am committed to supporting organizations and initiatives that address pressing environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, and habitat destruction. Whether through financial contributions, advocacy efforts, or volunteer work, I will actively engage with environmental conservation groups and amplify their impact on a broader scale. By leveraging the power of collective action and collaboration, I believe we can drive meaningful change and create a more sustainable future for all. In conclusion, my vision for the next five years is to harness the transformative power of wellness to create a positive environmental impact in my local and global communities. Through advocacy, education, and collective action, I am confident that we can build a healthier, more sustainable world for current and future generations.
