Bio

I'm currently a college freshman at Lamar Institution of Technology, pursuing an associate degree in Allied Health with a focus on the Cardiac Sonography program. Growing up, I faced challenges with ADHD and Anxiety disorder, struggling with lessons and assignments that others found easy. Initially, I hesitated to seek help, fearing judgment due to my learning difficulties. However, I eventually opened up, breaking free from my self-imposed barriers. Admitting my struggles became a turning point, allowing me to discover effective methods to comprehend lessons and handle homework. This experience not only restored my confidence but also reignited my faith and happiness, enabling me to stay determined and focused on my life goals. I've learned that with a little support, remarkable transformations are possible. I would describe myself as an ambitious, creative, selfless, and passionate individual. Finding solutions to challenges is a key strength of mine, and I live by my mother's inspiring words: "As long as one tries and puts in the effort, no wrong will happen." Her influence encourages me to work hard and persistently pursue my goals. Beyond academics, I cherish spending time with my family, learning from their experiences, and gaining valuable advice. I find solace in studying, going on walks to clear my mind, cooking, and exploring new activities to enrich my life. Thank you for considering my story. I hope this brief insight into my life helps you understand who I am and why I believe I am a deserving recipient of your scholarship. Thank you, Evalina Simien

My Story Growing up, my parents taught me how to overcome hurdles and strive for inspiration that would guarantee my success. When facing mental health and educational issues, I soon experienced the lessons that came along with it, lessons that allowed me to be determined and set short-term and long-term goals for myself. Although the obstacles were a step back from where I wanted to be in life, I am truly thankful I went through the tough times and now I am able to see different perspectives of issues. High school had become my breaking point, because that meant I had to come out of my shell and when I tried I got belittled, people found me to be uneducated and useless. The embarrassment stuck with me for months and triggered my mental health trauma. I would stay up late wondering why I suffer from ADHD. It was hard for me to keep my anxiety under control and stay focused during serious times. When I put effort into communicating, I would sweat and forget what I was going to say and there were times when I did speak and did not make sense of any sort. I kept telling myself I was difficult and would never be regular. After a while, I started to seek therapy. It was tough because I was not comfortable opening up to a stranger about my mental health. I would typically discuss my feelings with my friends and parents, the people that were close to me. However, it did take me time to shatter the glass box I sheltered myself in and I soon began to express how I was feeling and ask what can be done to fix my situation. As days went by, I started to focus on myself and forget what society thought of me, I joined clubs, picked up new hobbies, and became comfortable with myself. Everything that my therapist advised had become my reality.
