I plan to become a mentor to students that grew up like me. I want to help guide them in the way I wished someone was there to guide me. I'm a first generation college student and I found my own way around college. I did everything on my own but of course I wish I had the help I want to become. Which is why I always say "Be the change you want the world to see".
I'm a a Program Poach for a non profit organization group called Read Better be Better. Our mission is to connect young readers and youth leaders to inspire a love of literacy and learning. We also want a society in which all children master the foundational skills necessary to become independent learners. I'm making an impact in my community by being part of the after school program that helps students with their literacy and reading skills.
I hope that one day I can make a bigger impact and start a organization that helps first generation students like me. Where I can help find resources, scholarships, and mentors for students like me.
