A big aspect of my art is my family, I love to create works of art that are meaningful to both me and my family. I have a large family with seven siblings, and I’m the youngest. Despite the fact that my siblings have moved out and reside in different parts of the state, our family remains incredibly close. And seeing my family grow bigger throughout the years makes me so happy. The pictures of my art that I provided depict my family. One is of my sister, one of my mother, and one of my niece. Another aspect of my own life that inspires me is my heritage, growing up in a Mexican household had a very big impact on my art. Growing up, I watched my mom make tortillas, cook caldo, and preparing rice and beans. These dishes have always been a staple of my childhood. I even made an AP portfolio all about my culture, which is where I selected these works of art from. Next school year, I plan to go to the University of North Texas in order to continue my education in studio art. There I want to explore different mediums of creating art. With a degree in art I plan to go into creative fields such as graphic design, fashion design, or a tattoo artistry.

My love of art stemmed from the occasional art classes we would have in elementary school. I always got excited when we would have the once-a-week art class. I loved making the messy watercolor paintings in art class, or drawing meaningless objects on homework, and even coloring with crayons in a coloring book. Some art teachers furthered my love for art by encouraging me to continue taking art classes. In middle school, my art teacher, Mr. Ramos, helped me improve my art by teaching me all of the different forms and expanding my knowledge so much more than what I had in elementary school. I learned to do pottery, color with colored pencils, paint, and work with proper watercolors. In high school, I learned how to refine the techniques that I had learned and focus on an art form that I was best at. Mr. Mayfield, my high school art teacher, showed me how to paint properly, and I learned new styles of painting. He showed me how art doesn’t have to be smooth, that it can be sharp and have rough edges. I created some of my favorite artworks while I was learning under him. Around middle school, I got a phone and joined the world of social media. That's where I found many artists who posted their artwork online, and this fostered my love for art even more. These artists revealed a whole new world to me. They would post videos of their process when they were creating their art and show how I could improve my own. These random artists on the internet set forth ideas for what I could make with my art. They inspired me to try digital art. This new way of creating art was so fascinating to me because you could use whatever colors you want with whatever type of brush you want, without having to buy the colors or brushes. It was a new experience that motivated me to create more works of art that could be easily made without spending a lot of money. My favorite artist is Claude Monet because of his art style. I love his use of color in his paintings and the strokes of his paintbrush. My favorite artwork of his is “Woman with a Parasol,” made in 1875, because of how detailed it looks from afar, but when you get closer, you notice how it really isn’t that detailed. I like the way the clouds are depicted in the painting; they are scribbly and have no shape, and the dress of the woman has many colors, but we know that it is white. The use of color amazes me, and I hope I can one day I can create art with so much fluidity.
