Finalist

Bio

My name is Erwin Kamuene and I am a Congolese-American writer, journalist, and art critic born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. I obtained a bachelor's in writing, editing, and publishing from Emmanuel College (Boston) and currently do work as a freelancer. I've always been fascinated by storytelling and as I've gotten older, have grown committed to using storytelling to confront inequities and injustices. My work addresses topics of queerness, faith, Blackness, ecology, and migration, and has been published in Boston Art Review, Sojourners, and elsewhere. In September of 2026, I will be attending the University of Bristol (UK) to pursue a master's in social and cultural theory.
