Hi, my name is Eric Spivey, and I’m passionate about gaming, streaming, and anything related to math. I also enjoy working on creative projects like graphic design and video editing, where I get to combine my technical skills with creativity. Whether I’m creating content, solving problems, or editing videos, I love bringing ideas to life and learning something new in the process. I’m currently working toward getting back into school after stepping away due to the high cost of college. It was a tough decision, but I’ve stayed motivated. With the help of scholarships like this one, I hope to continue my education and build a future that blends my interests in technology, creativity, and problem-solving.

Camari Hunt 4x Foundation Independent Living Expenses Scholarship
Pursuing independence and stability has been both a challenge and a blessing for my personal growth. From the moment I signed the lease to my first apartment, everything became real. I moved in with what little I had—furniture, small appliances, TVs, and my desktop computer. That was the first major step toward adulthood. I was working about 38 hours a week as a server at Buffalo Wild Wings and had just enrolled in a six-month cybersecurity course. I knew right away that my hours would need to be cut back, but I was determined to take the chance.
Everything happened within that same month—rent, utilities, rental insurance, household items, and gas to get to work all hit me at once. The best days to make money at Buffalo Wild Wings were during the week and weekends, but that also happened to be when we had class projects due. I used to work double shifts Friday through Sunday, sometimes 12 to 15 hours straight, only to go home and force myself to stay up late finishing assignments. The class was geared toward people 25 and older, so I stood out. I already felt like I didn’t belong.
It was hard. There were days I didn’t eat because paying bills came first. But even with that, I still made time to help my elders. On Sundays before work, I’d stop by to assist my family’s older relatives and their friends from church. I would also set aside tip money from the night before to buy food for homeless people in my area or near my job. I never wanted to give out money that could be used for the wrong reasons, so I made sure to bring them food instead. If I was going days without eating, I could only imagine what they were going through—not knowing when their next meal would come or where they’d sleep.
Throughout that cybersecurity course, I struggled to find balance between survival and success. I had to fight to stay awake after long shifts, then turn around and give 100% to school. I’d wake up exhausted but determined to stay attentive, finish classwork, and complete group projects. The goal of my education was to create a better future for myself, one where I could earn an entry-level data analysis or cybersecurity job and finally feel secure.
These experiences taught me discipline, empathy, and how to keep going even when life gets heavy. They’ve shaped my educational and career goals. I want to complete my training in cybersecurity and eventually become a security analyst. Technology is constantly evolving, and I want to be part of protecting individuals, especially in vulnerable spaces like healthcare or nonprofit organizations. I’ve always had a passion for helping others, and cybersecurity would allow me to do that in a modern, meaningful way.
Outside of work and school, giving back has always been important to me. Whether it's helping my family elders or looking out for others in need, I’ve never stopped caring about my community—even when I had very little myself. These small acts have made me stronger and more connected to my purpose.
This scholarship would be life-changing. It would give me the space to fully focus on my education without having to sacrifice meals or rest to make ends meet. It would help lift the financial burden that so often forces me to choose between progress and survival. Most of all, it would bring me one step closer to becoming a leader in a field where people like me are underrepresented—and where we are needed the most.
