Hello, dear reader. My name is France Endy Consolabe, but I prefer to go by Endy. I am the third of 5 children and both my parents are Caribbean immigrants. My family and I have lived in the U.S. for almost 10 years, with Texas being our home for 7 of those years. To answer this question, I must delve back into how I ended up giving great consideration to nursing in the first place. Coming out of high school, I wouldn’t say that I particularly knew which direction to take academically. Two possible options were to follow either my father who was in finance or my mother who was a nurse practitioner before we moved, having emigrated, bound for the U.S., due to severe insecurity that threatened our family. With grade school scores on the high side in both math and physics, I considered engineering as well. Still, I wasn’t sure. However, the path was laid out before I could make up my mind. After moving to Florida at the age of 18, then soon after, to Massachusetts, within the same year, my first job was at a Rehabilitation hospital where I discovered in myself the ability, and excited desire, to positively influence the lives of others while they move through the healthcare system. This initial experience also kindled the dormant drive that was in me and set me on a journey to achieve a high level of clinical expertise, as necessary to be a great nurse, which would make a great pair with my organic ability to therapeutically relate with patients, for the promotion of holistic healing. My long-term goal is to earn a degree for advanced practice in healthcare after graduating with a bachelor’s of Nursing. One that will allow me to open a quality-focused Long Term Care Facility that provides dignified care to the elderly. I have started on this journey later than most have, to be precise, 3 years later since my high school graduation in 2015. Then also, between getting culturally acclimated both socially/academically, and working to pay my way through school, more time has elapsed, keeping me away from the goal still. However, after much hard work, today I am closer. Other than a graduation date that is now nearing with great speed, I have been blessed with the opportunity to work currently as a student nurse in a hospital intensive medical unit. An opportunity for which I must again reiterate, by grace, has proven itself to be what I needed for some financial relief and practical academic support. At this juncture, I require just a little bit more of a financial push to carry me over to the finish line. I hope that in these short lines, I was able to give you a compelling glimpse into my person, and world, to prompt my selection for this scholarship.

This initial experience also kindled the dormant drive that was in me and set me on a journey to achieve a high level of clinical expertise, as necessary to be a great nurse, which would make a great pair with my organic ability to therapeutically relate with patients, for the promotion of holistic healing. As far as my goals regarding supporting my community as a registered nurse, the focus is on both educating and bringing much-needed awareness regarding the best methods for promoting one’s health. Many individuals end up in a hospital bed with various types of avoidable problems. Medical Ailments stemming from either poor habits, problems that have persisted without being appropriately cared for due to incompetent providers or patient non-compliance, or not taking the necessary precautions like wearing seatbelts or using protective tools when partaking in high-risk activities. Therefore, the impetus is on others like me, with advanced health maintenance and promotion knowledge, to assist those who are not as fortunate with information that, we can say quite literally, has the power to even save their lives in some instances. In summary, I can say that is why I have decided to pursue a career in nursing. I am driven by this calling, to serve others and give them, as far as it is within my power and ability to do so, what I have to the end of that purpose; which will help them improve on their livelihood.
