Depression changed my life long before I understood what I was experiencing. It did not arrive all at once. One moment I could be laughing with friends, and the next I would find myself sitting on the floor, overwhelmed by emotions I could no longer control. I kept telling myself that I was strong enough to handle it alone, but eventually I reached a terrifying realization: if I did not ask for help, I might not survive. Before my mental health declined, I was a confident student who loved learning and believed hard work could solve almost anything. As depression deepened, I struggled to get out of bed, attend classes, and concentrate on assignments. My GPA dropped from 3.56 to 3.20. From the outside, it looked like I had simply stopped performing well. In reality, I was fighting a battle that very few people knew existed. Everything began to change because one professor noticed that something was wrong. She encouraged me to seek help. She probably thought it was an ordinary conversation, but for me it became the turning point that saved my life. I reached out, accepted support, and slowly learned that healing is not a single decision but a series of small, courageous ones. That experience completely reshaped my relationships. Before depression, I believed kindness meant being friendly. Now I understand that real compassion requires paying attention. People can smile, earn good grades, and appear successful while quietly struggling. Because I know what invisible pain feels like, I make an intentional effort to check on friends, listen without judgment, and remind people they do not have to carry their burdens alone. Supporting friends through grief, family struggles, and difficult seasons has become one of the most meaningful parts of my life because I never want someone to experience the loneliness I once felt. My experience also transformed my goals. I am pursuing mechanical engineering because I want to improve lives through innovation, but I also hope to leave an impact beyond my profession. I want to mentor students, especially those who feel isolated, overwhelmed, or uncertain of where they belong. Sometimes changing a life begins with technology. Other times it begins with a conversation. Depression changed how I see the world. It taught me that strength is not pretending to be okay; it is having the courage to ask for help and the compassion to recognize when someone else might need it. I survived one of the darkest periods of my life, and because I did, I now approach every opportunity with gratitude, every relationship with empathy, and every goal with a deeper sense of purpose.

Depression did not enter my life all at once. It arrived quietly. One moment I could be laughing with friends, and the next I would find myself sitting on the floor, overwhelmed, exhausted, and unable to carry the weight of my own thoughts. I believed I could handle everything on my own, but the darkness grew heavier until I reached a frightening realization: if I did not ask for help, I might not survive. The hardest part was that very few people knew what I was experiencing. I had always been an outgoing student who loved learning, so when my grades began to slip, most people only saw the numbers. They did not see the battle happening behind the scenes. My GPA dropped from 3.56 to 3.20 because I struggled to attend class, concentrate, and complete assignments. I was not losing my ability to succeed. I was losing hope. Recovery began with one conversation. A professor noticed that something was wrong and encouraged me to speak with someone. She was addressing what seemed like a completely different issue, yet her kindness reached something much deeper. She probably does not realize it, but that simple conversation changed my life. I sought help, accepted support, and slowly began rebuilding myself one day at a time. Healing transformed more than my mental health; it transformed my perspective. Before experiencing depression, I believed I understood compassion. After surviving it, realized how invisible suffering can be. The people who smile the brightest may still be carrying unbearable pain. I learned that kindness is not limited to grand gestures. Sometimes it is asking one more question, staying a little longer, or reminding someone that they do not have to face life alone. Today, I approach every relationship with greater empathy because I know what it feels like to believe no one understands. That experience has inspired me to support friends through grief, family struggles, and moments of loneliness. I cannot erase another person's pain, but I can make sure they never feel abandoned while carrying it. As a mechanical engineering student, I hope to spend my career improving people's lives through innovation. Just as importantly, I hope to be remembered as someone who noticed the people others overlooked. This scholarship would help me continue my education while honoring a lesson that forever changed me: healing is possible, hope can return, and a single act of compassion can alter the course of a person's life. I am living proof of that truth.

Selected Passage "You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength." - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations Essay Thesis: Marcus Aurelius argues that genuine freedom is achieved by governing our own thoughts rather than attempting to control circumstances beyond our influence. His words are not an invitation to ignore hardship; they are a call to cultivate resilience, responsibility, and purpose. The passage endures because it teaches that the strongest person is not the one who experiences the fewest difficulties but the one who responds to them with wisdom. At first reading, the quotation appears simple. However, every phrase carries meaning. Aurelius begins by identifying what belongs to us: our minds. He immediately contrasts this with what does not belong to us: outside events. This distinction is the heart of Stoic philosophy. Human beings naturally try to control outcomes, other people, or unexpected events. When those efforts fail, frustration often follows. Aurelius challenges that instinct. Instead of measuring our lives by Circumstances, he asks us to measure them by character. The phrase "you have power" is especially significant. Aurelius does not promise comfort, wealth, or success. He promises something more lasting: the ability to choose our response. That choice cannot prevent disappointment, but it determines whether disappointment becomes defeat or growth. In this way, strength becomes an internal quality instead of an external achievement. This lesson remains relevant because modern society often encourages the opposite mindset. Social media, competition, and constant comparison persuade many people that happiness depends on controlling every aspect of life. When plans fail, it becomes easy to blame circumstances or other people. Aurelius offers a different path. By focusing on judgment, discipline, and thoughtful action, individuals regain ownership of their lives even when conditions are imperfect. A closer reading also reveals that Aurelius is not promoting passivity. Some readers misunderstand Stoicism as accepting whatever happens without action. Instead, Stoicism encourages purposeful action within the limits of reality. We cannot choose every event, but we can choose honesty instead of deception, courage instead of fear, and perseverance instead of surrender. Acceptance is not giving up. It is recognizing reality clearly so that meaningful action becomes possible. I understand this distinction through my own educational journey. Leaving Nigeria to study mechanical engineering in the United States meant stepping into uncertainty. I encountered homesickness, unfamiliar academic expectations, financial pressures, and the challenge of adapting to a new culture. None of those experiences were entirely within my control. What remained within my control was my willingness to keep learning, ask questions, seek mentors, and continue moving toward my goals. Reading Aurelius reminds me that resilience is built through countless ordinary decisions rather than one extraordinary moment. The quotation also resonates with engineering itself. Engineers constantly work within constraints. Materials have limits, budgets are finite, and designs must satisfy safety requirements. Successful engineers do not waste time wishing those limitations disappeared. They study them carefully and create solutions within them. Innovation begins by understanding reality rather than resisting it. In that sense, the mindset Aurelius describes mirrors the mindset required for engineering: thoughtful, disciplined, and focused on what can actually be improved. Beyond personal success, the passage contains an ethical message. If our thoughts and actions belong to us, then responsibility belongs to us as well. We become less interested in assigning blame and more interested in becoming people of integrity. Communities become stronger when individuals accept responsibility for their own conduct. Progress begins with self-mastery before it extends outward to families, workplaces, and society. The final sentence, "Realize this, and you will find strength," is not describing a destination but a lifelong practice. Strength is discovered every time someone chooses patience over anger, perseverance over discouragement, or compassion over resentment. It grows through repeated decisions that often go unnoticed by everyone except the person making them. Although Marcus Aurelius wrote these words nearly two thousand years ago, they continue to speak to students, leaders, and ordinary people because human nature has not changed. Every generation faces uncertainty. Every person encounters setbacks beyond their control. What determines the quality of a life is not the absence of hardship but the wisdom with which hardship is met. By reminding us that our greatest power lies within our own minds, Aurelius offers a philosophy that remains as practical today as it was in ancient Rome.

When people hear the word "immigrant," they often think about crossing borders. For me, becoming an immigrant meant leaving behind the people I loved most to pursue a future I believed was possible. I grew up in Nigeria dreaming of becoming an engineer. I loved my country, but I also understood the challenges that many young people face when trying to build the future they imagine. I wanted an education that would challenge me, expose me to new ideas, and prepare me to solve real problems. That dream led me to the United States with two suitcases, countless questions, and the determination to make every sacrifice worthwhile. The hardest part of my journey was not the flight itself. It was saying goodbye. My mother hugged me at the airport, kissed my forehead, and reminded me that everything would happen at the right time. I cried from Port Harcourt to Lagos and throughout my journey to America. When I arrived at my dorm, I could not even unpack my suitcases for an entire day because I missed home so deeply. For the first time in my life, I had to build a life without the comfort of my family beside me. As an immigrant, I quickly learned that success requires more than academic ability. I had to adapt to a new culture, navigate unfamiliar systems, and learn to advocate for myself. During my first year, unexpectedly had to leave my dorm after my living environment became unwelcoming. Instead of allowing that setback to define me, focused on the reason I came. I earned a place on the Dean's List and secured my first engineering internship, achievements that reminded me perseverance can transform obstacles into opportunities. Today, I am studying mechanical engineering because I want to design transportation technologies that make people's lives safer and more sustainable. My goal reaches beyond engineering itself. I hope to mentor other international and first generation students who are leaving home with the same hopes and fears once carried. want them to know they belong, that asking for help is a strength, and that their background is something to be proud of. Receiving this scholarship would reduce the financial burden of studying far from home, allowing me to focus more on research, certification exams, and professional development. More importantly, it would represent an investment in someone determined to give back. I crossed an ocean to build a better future for myself. My greatest hope is that the opportunities I gain will allow me to create opportunities for others.

People often think selflessness begins with grand gestures. For me, it began with understanding what loneliness feels like. There was a season in my life when I struggled quietly. I felt isolated, overwhelmed, and unsure whether anyone truly saw what was carrying. Recovering from that period changed me. Instead of allowing those experiences to make me withdraw from others, they taught me to notice when someone else was hurting. I made a promise to myself that if I ever had the chance to make another person feel less alone, I would take it. One of the moments that shaped this promise came when a close friend lost a family member. I knew there were no perfect words to erase grief, so I focused on simply being present. I checked in consistently, listened without trying to solve everything, and reminded my friend that healing does not happen on anyone else's timeline. Sometimes we talked for hours. Other times we sat in silence because silence was all that was needed. What mattered most was making sure they knew they did not have to face that season alone. That experience taught me that helping people is rarely about having the right answers. It is about showing up with compassion, patience, and consistency. I carry that same mindset into every part of my life. Whether I am helping classmates understand coursework, serving in my church community, or encouraging another student who feels overwhelmed, I try to become the kind of person I once needed. As an international student pursuing mechanical engineering in the United States, I understand how easy it is to feel out of place. Moving thousands of miles away from home has given me an even greater appreciation for kindness. A conversation, a listening ear, or a small act of encouragement can completely change someone's day. Those moments may seem ordinary, but I believe they create lasting impact. My passion for engineering and my commitment to serving others are connected by the same purpose: improving lives. One day I hope to design technologies that make transportation safer and more accessible, while also mentoring young women and first generation students who wonder whether they belong in STEM. Success means little if it is not shared with others. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue pursuing my education while investing more time in research, service, and mentorship. More importantly, it would support someone who believes that the greatest legacy we can leave is not measured by what we achieve for ourselves, but by how many people we lift along the way.

The last thing my mother said before I boarded my flight to the United States was, "You've come this far, and you know what you want. Go to America. Everything will happen at the right time." For three hours before my flight, I barely spoke. I wasn't silent because I had nothing to say. I was silent because I didn't know how to express the pain of leaving my family. I had never been away from my mother for more than a few days, and now I was leaving Nigeria with two suitcases, knowing I would not see my family again for a long time. She hugged me, kissed my forehead, and reminded me that she would always be a part of me. As I walked through security, looked back one last time. She never turned around. I cried all the way from Port Harcourt to Lagos and throughout my journey to the United States. When I arrived at my dorm room, I left my suitcases unpacked for an entire day because I could not stop crying. Still, reminded myself why had come. wanted opportunities that were difficult to find back home and believed my dreams were worth crossing an ocean for. Being a first generation college student has meant learning everything through persistence. Every application, internship search, and unfamiliar system became something I had to navigate on my own. During my first year, I also had to leave my dorm after my living environment became unwelcoming. Although I questioned whether I belonged, I refused to let temporary hardships define my future. That determination led me to the Dean's List and my first engineering internship. When I received the offer, I called my parents in Nigeria. We all cried because that moment represented every sacrifice we had made. It reminded me that perseverance can change uncertainty into opportunity. Growing up in Nigeria inspired me to pursue a path that is still uncommon for many women: mechanical engineering. My goal is to develop safer and more sustainable transportation technologies while mentoring young women, especially first generation and international students, who dream of careers in STEM. Receiving this scholarship would reduce my financial burden, allowing me to focus on research, certification exams, and becoming the engineer I aspire to be. I left Nigeria with two suitcases and a dream. I hope to build a future that creates opportunities not only for myself but also for others who dare to believe they belong.

I still remember standing in the airport in Port Harcourt, trying to convince myself I was ready. My mother hugged me tightly before I walked toward security while my father, who had already left for work, called to wish me a safe journey. We took pictures, smiled through tears, and promised we would see each other again soon. As the plane lifted off, I cried from Port Harcourt to Lagos and again during my flight to the United States. I was not simply leaving my country. I was leaving my family, my culture, and everything familiar, in pursuit of a future I hoped would change my life. I chose to study in the United States because I wanted opportunities that were difficult to find at home. Nigeria will always be where my heart is, but I knew I wanted more for my future than the limitations created by economic uncertainty and insecurity. I have always believed that I have the potential to accomplish great things if I am willing to work hard enough. Coming to America was not about running away from my country. It was about running toward the life I knew I was capable of building. The excitement of beginning college quickly met reality. During my first year, I unexpectedly had to pack my belongings and leave my dorm room after realizing my living environment was no longer welcoming. Thousands of miles away from everyone I loved, I suddenly felt alone. There were moments when I questioned whether I truly belonged here or whether I had made the right decision by leaving home. Instead of allowing that experience to define me, I chose to focus on the reason I had come. Every challenge became another reminder that growth rarely happens inside our comfort zones. That mindset carried me forward. I devoted myself to my studies, earned a place on the Dean's List, and secured my first engineering internship. Receiving that internship was one of the proudest moments of my life because it reminded me that every sacrifice, every late night studying, and every tear shed on my journey to the United States had meaning. It proved that resilience is not about avoiding hardship. It is about continuing to move forward despite it. As a mechanical engineering student, I hope to design technologies that improve transportation and make people's lives safer and more sustainable. Beyond engineering, I want to mentor young women, especially first generation and international students, who wonder if they belong in STEM. I want them to see that success is possible even when the journey begins with uncertainty and fear. Receiving this scholarship would help me continue pursuing my education while allowing me to focus on becoming the kind of engineer and mentor I aspire to be. The girl who cried on the flight from Nigeria could not see exactly what the future would hold. Today, I still do not know every step ahead, but I know why I started. My goal is not only to build a successful career, but also to build opportunities for others who dare to dream beyond the borders of where they began.

The first thing lost wasn't my patience. It was a bolt. It was barely bigger than my fingernail, and somewhere between my desk and the floor, it disappeared. I froze, staring at the half built robot car in front of me. Anyone walking into the room would have laughed. One tiny bolt couldn't possibly matter that much. Apparently, they had never built anything before. For the next thirty minutes, my room looked like the aftermath of an investigation. I checked under my chair, emptied my backpack, shook out my hoodie, and even searched inside my slippers because I had convinced myself the bolt had somehow landed there. It hadn't. Eventually I sat on the floor, surrounded by scattered tools and tiny electronic parts, wondering how something so insignificant had brought all my progress to a halt. That was when I realized engineering has a funny way of teaching life lessons. People celebrate the finished invention. They admire the sleek design, the moving parts, or the final presentation. Nobody applauds the hour someone spends looking for a missing bolt. Yet without that bolt, nothing else works. As a mechanical engineering student, I spend a lot of time solving problems that look ridiculous from the outside. Sometimes the obstacle is a loose wire. Sometimes a line of code refuses to cooperate. Sometimes the answer is sitting in the instruction manual I was too stubborn to read the first time. The work is rarely dramatic. It is mostly persistence. That tiny bolt reminded me that progress often depends on details that nobody notices. We are taught to chase big achievements: internships, grades, research opportunities, scholarships. Those accomplishments matter, but they are built on hundreds of small decisions that never appear on a resume. Choosing to start over instead of giving up. Asking for help when pride says not to. Reading one more page. Testing one more idea. Eventually I found the bolt. It had rolled into the fold of my toolbox, hiding in plain sight the entire time. I laughed because I had spent half an hour searching everywhere except the most obvious place. The robot eventually worked, but the bolt is the part I remember most. Whenever I begin a new project now, I think about how easy it is to overlook the smallest pieces simply because they are small. Whether I am designing something, studying for an exam, or navigating life as a first generation college student, I remind myself that meaningful progress is rarely built from one grand moment. It is built from ordinary moments repeated with care. Most people would say the story is about losing a bolt. I think it is about discovering that the smallest pieces often carry the greatest weight.

When I left Nigeria to study engineering in the United States, I quickly realized that earning a degree would require far more than attending lectures and passing exams. It meant adapting to a new country, learning a different educational system, and building a life away from the people who had always supported me. As a first-generation college student, there was no roadmap waiting for me. Every decision, from understanding financial aid to finding internships, became something I had to figure out through persistence and curiosity. Those experiences changed my understanding of education. To me, education is the ability to create opportunities where none seem to exist. Mechanical engineering appealed to me because it transforms ideas into practical solutions. I have always been fascinated by how thoughtful design can improve people's everyday lives. Whether I am contributing to the design of an autonomous electric party bus, exploring sustainable engineering concepts, or strengthening my technical skills through projects outside the classroom, I enjoy solving problems that require creativity as much as technical knowledge. Education has taught me that innovation is not reserved for people with the most resources. It belongs to those willing to keep learning. Beyond academics, education has shaped my confidence. There have been moments when I questioned whether I belonged in a field where women are still underrepresented. Instead of allowing doubt to define me, I chose to seek opportunities that would help me grow. I pursued leadership roles, volunteered within my university community, and accepted an automotive mechanical design internship that allows me to gain real world engineering experience. Each opportunity has reminded me that growth comes from stepping into unfamiliar situations rather than waiting until I feel completely prepared. Education has also given me a sense of responsibility. Every milestone I reach represents possibilities that extend beyond myself. I hope to become an engineer who develops transportation technologies that are safer, more sustainable, and more accessible. I also want to encourage young women, especially those from backgrounds like mine, to pursue careers in STEM without believing they need to fit a particular mold to succeed. Sometimes the most meaningful form of leadership is simply showing someone else that their goals are achievable. Receiving this scholarship would ease some of the financial challenges that come with pursuing higher education, but its significance goes beyond financial support. It would serve as a reminder that determination, service, and ambition are recognized and valued. More importantly, it would allow me to continue investing my energy where it matters most: becoming an engineer who uses knowledge to solve problems, create opportunities, and inspire others to believe that their circumstances do not determine the limits of their future. For me, education is not just the path to a career. It is the foundation that allows me to transform challenges into possibilities and, one day, help others do the same.

Growing up in a low-income household taught me that resilience is not something you choose, it becomes a necessity. As an international student from Nigeria, my family has made countless sacrifices so could pursue opportunities that once seemed out of reach. There were times when financial uncertainty made it difficult to focus on anything except survival. Instead of allowing those obstacles to define me, I chose to let them strengthen my determination. Living with limited resources forced me to become resourceful. I learned to solve problems creatively, appreciate every opportunity, and work harder than I ever thought possible. Every scholarship, every academic achievement, and every leadership opportunity represents more than personal success, it reflects my family's sacrifices and my commitment to creating a better future. Today, I am pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering because I want to use technology to solve real-world problems that affect underserved communities. Outside of coursework, I continuously challenge myself to learn new software, strengthen my problem-solving abilities, and develop projects that demonstrate innovation and creativity. I also look for opportunities to mentor and encourage others, especially students who may doubt whether they belong in STEM because of financial or personal challenges. Coming from a low-income background has taught me empathy, perseverance, and gratitude. It has shown me that circumstances do not determine potential; determination does. My experiences have fueled my ambition to become an engineer who creates opportunities for others, inspires future generations, and contributes meaningful solutions to society. Receiving this scholarship would not only ease the financial burden of my education but also bring me one step closer to fulfilling my mission of using engineering to improve lives.

Growing up, I believed that success was mostly determined by talent. The more I read, however, the more I realized that the people I admired were rarely the smartest in the room. They were the ones who stayed disciplined, embraced failure, and continued learning long after everyone else had given up. Books have reshaped the way I think about success, leadership, and my future as an engineer. They have taught me that achievement is built through consistent effort, curiosity, and the willingness to solve problems that matter. One book that profoundly influenced me was Atomic Habits by James Clear. Before reading it, I focused almost entirely on outcomes: earning good grades, landing internships, or completing ambitious projects. This clearly challenged that mindset by emphasizing the importance of systems over goals. His argument that small, consistent improvements compound over time completely changed how I approach both school and personal growth. Instead of waiting for motivation, I developed routines that made learning and improvement a daily habit. This philosophy has helped me become more disciplined in engineering, where success often depends on patience, repetition, and continuous refinement. Another book that left a lasting impression on me was The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. Covey's emphasis on personal responsibility and proactive decision making, taught me that leadership begins long before someone receives a title. I learned the importance of taking initiative, communicating effectively, and focusing on solutions rather than excuses. These lessons have influenced how I approach group projects, collaborate with classmates, and prepare for leadership opportunities within my academic community. Reading biographies of innovators and entrepreneurs has also shaped my ambitions. Their stories revealed that nearly every breakthrough was preceded by setbacks, criticism, and uncertainty. Rather than discouraging me, these examples taught me that failure is often part of meaningful innovation. As a mechanical engineering student, this perspective has encouraged me to tackle challenging projects involving automation, intelligent systems, and product design without fearing mistakes. Every unsuccessful prototype or programming bug becomes another opportunity to learn instead of a reason to quit. Beyond technical knowledge, books have expanded my understanding of the responsibility that comes with innovation. They have reinforced the idea that engineering is ultimately about improving people's lives. Whether through safer transportation systems, sustainable technologies, or artificial intelligence that solves real world problems, I want my work to have a positive and lasting impact on society. The greatest lesson books have given me is that learning never ends. Every page I read broadens my perspective, challenges my assumptions, and motivates me to aim higher. As I continue my education, I hope to combine the knowledge I gain from books with practical engineering experience to create technologies that improve lives. My long term goal is not simply to become a successful engineer, but to become an innovative problem solver whose work leaves a meaningful impact on the world.

As a mechanical engineering student, I have become fascinated by the intersection of artificial intelligence and engineering. Rather than viewing Al as just another software tool, I see it as a way to solve real-world problems through intelligent systems that combine data, hardware, and human-centered design. Over the past two years, I have intentionally explored Al through personal projects, engineering coursework, and independent learning, challenging myself to move beyond simply using Al models and toward understanding how they are built, integrated, and applied. One of the projects that sparked my interest was designing a Smart Crosswalk Safety System. My goal was to explore how computer vision could improve pedestrian safety by detecting people approaching a crosswalk and triggering visual warnings for drivers. While developing the concept, I learned about object detection, image processing, Raspberry Pi integration, and the importance of optimizing systems for real-time performance. This project strengthened both my engineering mindset and my curiosity about embedded Al. I have also explored Al by building software tools that automate everyday tasks. One example is an Al-powered study assistant that allows students to upload notes, ask questions in natural language, and generate quizzes and flashcards. Creating this project introduced me to API integration, backend development, prompt engineering, and designing intuitive user experiences. I enjoy the process of taking an idea from concept to implementation and continuously improving it through testing and iteration. Beyond my own projects, I have invested significant time in learning the fundamentals of machine learning through online courses and technical documentation. I have studied concepts such as supervised learning, regression, classification, clustering, feature engineering, and model evaluation while strengthening my programming skills in Python. Every project has reinforced the value of experimentation, debugging, and continuous learning. What excites me most about Al is its ability to create meaningful impact across industries. As a future engineer, I hope to develop intelligent systems that improve transportation, manufacturing, environmental sustainability, and public safety. I am especially interested in combining machine learning with robotics and autonomous systems to build technologies that make everyday life safer and more efficient. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue expanding my technical skills while pursuing ambitious engineering projects that push me outside my comfort zone. I do not claim to know everything about Al, but I bring curiosity, discipline, and a willingness to learn. I believe the future belongs to engineers who can combine technical expertise with creativity and ethical responsibility, and I am committed to becoming one of them.

When people imagine the future of robotics, they often picture humanoid machines replacing doctors, teachers, or even friends. I imagine something different. I imagine robots becoming invisible, not because they disappear, but because they become such a natural part of life that we stop noticing them. The real challenge will not be building smarter robots. It will be teaching them to understand the people they are designed to help. In the year 2042, my grandmother lived alone in a small coastal town. At eighty six, she refused to leave the home where she had spent her entire life. Her memory was not what it used to be, and climbing stairs became more difficult every month. Instead of moving her into a nursing facility, our family welcomed a home assistant robot named Atlas. Atlas was not human. It did not pretend to smile or tell jokes that sounded rehearsed. Instead, it quietly learned her routines. Every morning it reminded her to take medication, prepared breakfast exactly the way she liked it, and adjusted the home's temperature before she even noticed she was cold. When storms approached, Atlas secured the windows and contacted emergency services if flooding became a threat. Everything seemed perfect until one rainy afternoon. My grandmother sat silently staring at an old photograph. Atlas detected signs of sadness. Following its programming, it attempted to cheer her up by playing upbeat music, increasing the room's lighting, and suggesting breathing exercises. None of it worked. Finally, Atlas asked, "Would you like me to remove this photograph since it appears to cause emotional distress?" My grandmother smiled sadly. "No," she whispered. "It reminds me of my husband." Atlas processed the sentence. Its cameras recognized tears, but tears had always been classified as negative emotional indicators. Yet my grandmother continued looking at the picture as if it were the most valuable object in the world. For the first time, Atlas encountered something it had never fully understood: humans sometimes choose pain because it keeps love alive. That evening, Atlas did something unexpected. Instead of offering another solution, it simply sat beside her in silence. The engineers later discovered that Atlas had begun creating new emotional models that could not be measured only by heart rate, facial expressions, or voice patterns. It learned that compassion sometimes meant doing nothing except sharing a quiet moment. That discovery changed robotics forever. In the following years, engineers stopped asking, "How can robots become more intelligent?" They began asking a more important question: "How can robots better understand humanity?" As a future mechanical engineer with a taste for robotics, I believe this is where robotics is heading. Today's robots already perform surgeries with incredible precision, assemble vehicles faster than humans, inspect dangerous environments, and even assist during natural disasters. Their mechanical capabilities continue improving every year through better sensors, stronger materials, and advances in artificial intelligence. However, the greatest opportunity is not replacing human workers. It is extending human ability. Imagine robots helping firefighters navigate collapsing buildings before people enter. Imagine autonomous underwater robots repairing damaged pipelines after hurricanes. Imagine agricultural robots reducing food waste by identifying unhealthy crops one plant at a time. Even atmospheric water harvesting systems, a research concept that fascinates me, could use autonomous robots to maintain equipment in remote regions where clean drinking water is scarce. Yet every opportunity introduces difficult questions. Who becomes responsible when an autonomous robot makes a mistake? How do we prevent companies from collecting deeply personal information through household robots? If robots perform most physical labor, how do we prepare future generations for meaningful work? Engineering has never been only about building machines. It is also about accepting responsibility for the consequences of those machines. Isaac Asimov imagined rules that would keep robots from harming people. While those famous laws inspired generations of engineers, reality is much more complicated. Human life is full of situations where there is no perfect answer. A rescue robot may have seconds to decide whom to save first. A medical robot may recommend treatments that conflict with a patient's wishes. These decisions require not only intelligence but ethics. That is why the future of robotics depends as much on engineers as on programmers, psychologists, ethicists, and ordinary families who will live alongside these machines. When I eventually design robotic systems, I hope they are remembered not because they were the fastest or most advanced, but because they solved real problems while respecting the people they served. Technology should never replace compassion. It should create more opportunities for it. Perhaps the greatest achievement in robotics will not be building a machine that thinks exactly like a human. It will be building one that understands enough about humanity to know when logic should give way to kindness. If that future arrives, robots will not simply change the world. They will help us become better versions of ourselves.

Sabrina Carpenter's career has inspired me because she is a great example of what perseverance looks like. She started in entertainment at a young age, faced years of challenges and criticism, and continued to improve her craft without giving up. Watching her journey reminds me that success rarely happens overnight. It comes from consistency, patience, and believing in yourself even when others overlook your potential. As a mechanical engineering student, I often face difficult classes, long hours of studying, and moments where I question whether I am capable of reaching my goals. Seeing Sabrina continue to work hard throughout her career encourages me to stay committed to my own path. Her story reminds me that growth takes time, and every challenge is an opportunity to become stronger. I also admire her confidence and creativity. Whether she is writing music, performing, or expressing herself through her artistry, she embraces who she is. That confidence inspires me to be more comfortable with my own ideas and ambitions. One of the things I appreciate most about Sabrina is that her success feels earned. She continued working even when she was not receiving the same level of recognition she has today. Her journey shows that persistence can eventually open doors that once seemed impossible. As an international student, pursuing higher education comes with financial and personal challenges. There are days when balancing school and responsibilities feels overwhelming. Listening to Sabrina's music provides encouragement and reminds me to keep moving forward. I hope to use my education to design technologies that improve people's lives, and want to approach my goals with the same resilience and dedication that Sabrina Carpenter has shown throughout her career.

1. When did you find TXT I found TXT in 2021 through social media. I started listening to their music out of curiosity, but I stayed because I connected with both their songs and their personalities. Over time, they became one of the artists I listened to the most. 2. What do you think is one of the most important characteristics of a MOA? I think one of the most important characteristics of a MOA is kindness. Supporting TXT also means supporting other fans, encouraging people, and creating a positive community. Being respectful and uplifting is something that makes the fandom special. 3. Do you have a TXT bias, and if so, why did you choose them? Yes, my bias is Beomgyu. I like his sense of humor and how he can make people laugh, but I also admire how hardworking he is. He reminds me that it's okay to be yourself while still giving your best. 4. It would also help my family, who have made many sacrifices to support my education. 10. How has TXT influenced you for good? TXT has reminded me that growth isn't always easy, but it's worth it. Their music encourages me to keep moving forward even when school becomes overwhelming. As an engineering student, there are many difficult days, and their messages about perseverance motivate me to keep working toward my goals. 11. How will you use your education to do good in the world? I am studying mechanical engineering because I want to design technology that improves people's lives. I hope to work on sustainable engineering solutions and create products that solve real problems. I also want to encourage other young students, especially international students and young women, to pursue STEM careers. Receiving an education is a privilege, and I want to use mine to make a positive difference in my community and beyond.

The first time I opened a CAD program, I realized engineering was more than equations on a page, it was a way to transform imagination into something real. Watching a simple sketch evolve into a design that could one day solve a problem fascinated me. Since then, I have approached every challenge with the mindset of an engineer: stay curious, embrace failure, and keep improving until the solution works. That mindset became especially important when I left Nigeria to pursue a Mechanical Engineering degree in the United States. Becoming an international student meant leaving behind everything familiar and rebuilding my life in a completely different country. I had to adapt to a new academic system, navigate financial responsibilities, and learn to succeed without the support network I had always relied on. There were moments of uncertainty, but each obstacle strengthened my resilience. Instead of asking why something was difficult, I began asking, "How can I solve it?" Beyond my coursework, I actively challenge myself through independent engineering projects that push me to apply classroom knowledge in practical ways. One of my favorite projects has been designing an active aerodynamic spoiler prototype using CAD software and building a physical model to demonstrate how engineering can improve vehicle efficiency. Like every engineering project, it involved redesigns, unexpected setbacks, and constant problem-solving. Those moments taught me that innovation is rarely about getting everything right the first time. It is about learning, adapting, and refusing to give up. My curiosity has also led me to explore sustainable engineering. I developed a concept for a biomimetic atmospheric water harvesting system inspired by nature's ability to collect moisture from the air. Projects like these remind me that engineering is ultimately about people. Every design has the potential to make transportation safer, communities more sustainable, and everyday life a little better. Leadership has become another important part of my journey. Mechanical Engineering is giving me far more than technical knowledge. It is teaching me how to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate with diverse teams, and solve complex problems under pressure. These are skills that will shape not only the engineer I become but also the leader I hope to be. After graduation, I plan to build a career designing innovative automotive and transportation technologies that improve efficiency, sustainability, and safety. I also hope to pursue graduate studies so I can contribute to research that advances the future of engineering. Long-term, I want to mentor aspiring engineers especially young women and international students, who may not always see themselves represented in STEM. I want them to know that their ideas matter and that persistence can open doors that once seemed impossible. Receiving this scholarship would ease the financial burden of pursuing my education and allow me to dedicate more time to research, engineering projects, leadership, and service. More importantly, it would be an investment in someone who is determined to use engineering to solve meaningful problems, strengthen communities, and inspire others to pursue ambitious goals of their own. I do not simply want to earn a degree. I want to build solutions that leave a lasting impact long after I graduate.

When I first read about Malgorzata "Maggie" Kwiecien, I immediately connected with her story because many of the challenges she faced reflect parts of my own journey. Like Maggie, I moved to the United States on my own to pursue education and create opportunities for a better future. Leaving behind everything familiar, family, home, culture, and comfort. All of which required courage, resilience, and determination. As an international student from Rivers State, Nigeria, I understand how difficult it can be to navigate a completely different environment while trying to succeed academically and personally at the same time. One of the ways I relate to Maggie most is her bravery. Moving to another country alone is not easy, especially when you do not have a strong support system nearby. There are moments of loneliness, uncertainty, and fear that many people do not see. When I first arrived in the United States, I had to adapt to a new culture, a new educational system, and a completely different lifestyle while balancing financial and emotional pressures. At times, the experience felt overwhelming, and questioned whether I was strong enough to continue. However, like Maggie, I refused to allow those challenges to stop me from pursuing my goals. I also admire Maggie's determination to continue learning and pushing herself beyond limits. Her devotion to education and becoming an expert in whatever she pursued deeply resonates with me because I share that same passion for growth and self-improvement. I am currently pursuing an engineering pathway because I have always been interested in problem-solving, innovation, and creating solutions that positively impact people's lives. STEM requires discipline, resilience, and intellectual curiosity, and those are qualities I continue developing every day through my educational journey. Another quality I share with Maggie is perseverance through adversity. Being an international student often means carrying responsibilities that people around you may not fully understand. Financial pressure, homesickness, academic stress, and emotional isolation can make the journey feel incredibly difficult. There were moments during my education when balancing those challenges felt exhausting, but I reminded myself why I began this journey in the first place. knew that every sacrifice was making was helping me build a future filled with opportunity and purpose. What inspires me most about Maggie's story is that she never allowed challenges to define or limit her. Instead, she continued striving toward excellence and lived boldly despite hardship. That mindset inspires me because I want to approach my own life with the same determination and courage. Although my journey has been filled with obstacles, it has also taught me resilience, independence, and the importance of believing in my future. In many ways, I see parts of myself reflected in Maggie's story. Like her, I moved far away from home in pursuit of education and opportunity. Like her, I continue pushing myself to grow despite difficulties and uncertainty. Most importantly, like Maggie, I believe that strength is not about avoiding hardship, but about continuing to move forward even when the journey feels difficult.

My name is Emmanuella Nneoma Okpara, and international student, hailing from South-South, Nigeria. Growing up in Nigeria, I learned that many of the challenges people face every day are not simply problems, they are opportunities for innovation. That perspective inspired me to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering, where I hope to design technologies that improve lives through sustainable and intelligent engineering. I wish to establish an engineering company dedicated to developing practical solutions for challenges such as clean water access, energy-efficient transportation, and smart mechanical systems that make everyday life safer and more efficient. I believe the best engineers learn by building, not just by studying. Throughout college, I have intentionally sought opportunities to strengthen my technical skills beyond the classroom. I have taught myself how to use CAD software to design mechanical systems, and I have built Arduino-based engineering projects that combine programming, electronics, sensors, and mechanical design. One of my recent projects involved designing and constructing an intelligent vehicle prototype with an active aerodynamic spoiler. From creating the CAD model to wiring electronic components, programming the Arduino, integrating ultrasonic sensors, and troubleshooting hardware failures, every stage of the project challenged me to think critically and develop practical engineering solutions. Those experiences taught me that engineering is an iterative process built on persistence, creativity, and continuous improvement. As I continue my education, I plan to pursue undergraduate research, competitive engineering internships, and leadership opportunities that will expose me to real-world design challenges. My long-term goal is to earn advanced degrees in engineering so I can combine research with industry experience before launching my own company. Every class I take, every project I build, and every skill I develop brings me one step closer to creating technologies that improve lives while inspiring future generations of engineers to believe that they, too, can solve the world's most pressing challenges. Beyond technical skills, I understand the importance of representation. As a Black woman pursuing Mechanical Engineering, I know firsthand how valuable it is to see women succeeding in STEM fields that have historically lacked diversity. My goal is not only to become an engineer but also to become a mentor who encourages young women, especially Black women and international students, to believe they belong in engineering. hope to create internship opportunities through my future company and support programs that provide hands-on STEM experiences for students who may not otherwise have access to them. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue investing in the tools, software, and hands-on projects that transform classroom knowledge into real engineering experience. More importantly, it would bring me one step closer to becoming the kind of engineer who uses innovation to solve meaningful problems while opening doors for the next generation of women in STEM.

When I chose to study Mechanical Engineering, I wasn't drawn to it because I liked equations or machines. I chose it because engineering gives me the ability to solve problems that matter. Every design begins with a question: How can this be made better? That mindset has shaped not only the way I approach school but also the kind of engineer I hope to become. The area of design that interests me most is sustainable product design and intelligent mechanical systems. I want to create technologies that use fewer resources, waste less energy, and improve people's everyday lives. To me, sustainability is not simply about protecting the environment. It is about designing products that last longer, consume fewer resources, and remain accessible to the people who need them most. That passion extends beyond the classroom. In the photos attached to this application, you can see one of the engineering projects I have been building using an Arduino microcontroller, ultrasonic sensors, a servo motor, and a small robotic vehicle. What began as a simple prototype quickly became an exercise in problem-solving. I spent hours testing wiring, rewriting code, redesigning mechanisms, and learning from failures before the system behaved the way I intended. That experience taught me that engineering is rarely about getting the answer right the first time. It is about continually improving a design until it performs reliably and efficiently. Building projects like this has changed the way I think about sustainability. Every prototype forces me to consider material choices, energy consumption, efficiency, and how a product could be improved before it is manufactured on a larger scale. I have also explored concepts such as biomimetic atmospheric water harvesting, inspired by nature's ability to collect water efficiently from the air. Projects like these have convinced me that some of tomorrow's greatest environmental solutions will come from engineers willing to question existing designs and imagine better ones. As I continue my education, I plan to prioritize sustainability by designing products with their entire life cycle in mind. That means choosing durable and recyclable materials whenever possible, reducing unnecessary waste through digital modeling and simulation, improving energy efficiency, and creating products that can be repaired instead of replaced. Sustainable engineering is not one design decision, it is a philosophy that should guide every stage of development. My long-term goal is to establish an engineering company dedicated to creating practical, sustainable technologies that address challenges such as clean water access, energy efficiency, and intelligent transportation systems. I also hope to mentor aspiring engineers, especially women and international students, by giving them opportunities to gain hands-on experience through internships and collaborative projects. Every prototype I build reminds me that innovation starts small. It begins with curiosity, a willingness to fail, and the determination to keep improving. I believe the future of design belongs to engineers who create solutions that are not only innovative but also sustainable, accessible, and capable of making a meaningful difference in people's lives.

Growing up in Nigeria, I learned early that life can change in an instant. After my family's home was robbed, my parents had to focus on rebuilding our stability and finding a safe place for us to live. During that time, I moved in with my grandparents, who became my primary caregivers for much of my childhood. Looking back, I realize they did far more than raise me, they shaped the values that continue to guide every decision I make. Some of my favorite memories are the simplest ones. In the evenings, my grandfather would roast corn for all of us, and we would sit together on the balcony while he told stories about perseverance, integrity, and the importance of making the most of every opportunity. He believed education was the greatest gift anyone could receive. To encourage us, he created friendly competitions among his grandchildren, rewarding us based on our academic performance. It was never about the money; it was about teaching us that discipline, consistency, and hard work should always be celebrated. My grandmother showed her love differently. Every morning before sunrise, she woke up to bathe us, prepare us for school, and make sure we were ready to learn. Their quiet sacrifices taught me that true leadership is often expressed through service. Those lessons became the foundation of my life. When I moved to the United States as an international student to pursue Mechanical Engineering, carried those values with me. Adjusting to a new country, culture, and education system was challenging, but my grandparents had already taught me resilience. Engineering has become more than a degree for me; it is an opportunity to solve meaningful problems. Through independent projects, including designing an active aerodynamic spoiler using Arduino and researching biomimetic atmospheric water harvesting, ! have discovered that innovation requires curiosity, patience, and persistence. Every challenge strengthens my determination to become an engineer who creates solutions that improve people's lives. Although I have not had extensive nonprofit experience, I believe service begins by using your skills to help others. As my career develops, I hope to mentor young women, international students, and aspiring engineers who may not always see themselves represented in STEM. I also want to establish internship opportunities through my future engineering company so students can gain practical experience regardless of their background. I believe knowledge has the greatest impact when it is shared. Outside of school, I enjoy building engineering projects, cooking, dancing, and staying active through fitness. These interests keep me creative, disciplined, and balanced while allowing me to approach problems from different perspectives. If had to choose one person who motivates me most, it would be my grandfather. His unwavering belief in education changed the course of my life. He taught me that success is not defined by where you begin but by your willingness to work hard, remain humble, and help others along the way. Every goal pursue today is rooted in the lessons he taught me from that balcony many years ago. My greatest hope is to honor his legacy by using my education to create opportunities, solve meaningful problems, and inspire others to believe in their own potential.

If I had to choose one Taylor Swift performance that best captures her artistry and resilience, it would be her performance of All Too Well (10 Minute Version) during The Eras Tour. What makes it so moving is not only the song itself but the way Taylor transforms a deeply personal story into a shared experience with tens of thousands of people. Every audience member seems to know every word, creating an atmosphere that feels less like a concert and more like a collective memory. What stands out to me is Taylor's ability to be vulnerable while remaining completely in command of the stage. Singing a ten minute song in front of a stadium requires confidence, but it also requires trust, trust that the audience will stay with you through every lyric, every pause, and every emotion. Instead of relying on elaborate choreography or special effects, she allows storytelling to take center stage. That choice reminds me that true performance is not about doing the most; it is about making people feel something real. As someone pursuing a career in engineering, I find that surprisingly inspiring. Although engineering and music seem like different worlds, they share an important principle: creating something meaningful takes patience, revision, and courage. Taylor has spoken openly about rewriting songs and reclaiming ownership of her work, and her performances reflect years of dedication rather than overnight success. They remind me that excellence is built through persistence and a willingness to keep improving, even when the process is difficult. I also admire how she has turned her platform into something larger than herself. Whether through her songwriting, live performances, or connection with fans, she demonstrates that authenticity can have a lasting impact. In a world where it is often tempting to hide imperfections, Taylor shows that honesty can be a strength. For me, the most moving performance is not memorable because of its production value alone. It is memorable because it tells a story with sincerity, resilience, and confidence. It reminds me that the most powerful performances, whether on a stage, in a laboratory, or in everyday life, are the ones that connect with people through authenticity. That is the lesson hope to carry with me throughout my own career: create work that is meaningful, stay committed to constant improvement, and never lose sight of the people you hope to inspire.

If I could create a brand-new Love Island USA challenge, I would design one that creates drama without forcing it. The best moments on the show happen when Islanders reveal how they truly feel, so my challenge focuses on honesty, strategy, and a little bit of chaos. Every Islander receives 10 Love Bucks, a fictional currency they can use to bid on sealed envelopes placed around the villa. Each envelope is labeled with a category such as Most Loyal, Biggest Red Flag, Marriage Material, Secret Crush, Most Genuine, Best Kisser, Most Likely to Cheat, or Best Future Parent. Islanders secretly decide how to spend their 10 Love Bucks. They can use all of them on one category they desperately want revealed or spread them across several envelopes. Once the bidding is over, everyone gathers around the fire pit with Ariana. The highest bidder for each envelope gets to open it. Before the results are shown, everyone in the villa votes anonymously on the category using tablets. The results immediately appear on the villa screen. Here's where the real drama begins: the villa also finds out who spent the most Love Bucks to reveal that category. Imagine someone spends all 10 Love Bucks on Secret Crush. Instantly, everyone knows they were desperate to hear the answer. Then the anonymous votes reveal that someone's crush isn't the person they're currently coupled up with. Suddenly, couples begin questioning each other, friendships are tested, and conversations that were being avoided can no longer be ignored. The winning couple earns an exclusive luxury date outside the villa. In addition, the Islander whose predictions match the villa's opinions the most wins immunity from the next dumping. This creates an incentive to really understand the dynamics of the villa instead of simply guessing. I think this challenge would become a fan favorite because the drama comes naturally from the Islanders' own choices rather than from random dares. It rewards strategy, exposes hidden feelings, and creates unforgettable moments that viewers would be talking about long after the episode ends.

My long-term goal is to become a mechanical engineer, earn advanced degrees, and eventually build an engineering company that develops sustainable technologies capable of solving real-world problems. I am particularly interested in innovations related to clean water access, intelligent mechanical systems, and energy-efficient transportation. I want to create products that improve everyday life while providing opportunities for future engineers through internships, mentorship, and research. To achieve that vision, I have developed a realistic plan with measurable milestones, required resources, and contingency strategies. The first step is completing my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering while continuing to strengthen my technical skills through hands-on projects. Outside the classroom, I plan to expand my experience with CAD software, embedded systems, prototyping, and programming. Building projects, such as my active aerodynamic spoiler prototype and atmospheric water harvesting concept, it allows me to apply theory to practical engineering challenges. During this stage, I also intend to secure engineering internships to gain experience in product development and manufacturing. My estimated annual expenses include tuition, housing, books, software, transportation, and engineering materials. While costs vary, anticipate educational and living expenses of approximately $30,000-$40,000 per year, with an additional $1,000-$2,000 dedicated to project materials, software, and prototyping. After graduation, I plan to work for an engineering company where I can learn from experienced professionals while pursuing a master's degree and, ultimately, a Ph.D. During these years I will continue developing engineering concepts into patentable technologies, build relationships with mentors and industry partners, and save capital to launch my own business. Key resources will include research laboratories, makerspaces, engineering software, mentors, professional organizations, and grant or scholarship funding. If one path becomes unavailable, I will adapt by seeking research assistantships, employer-sponsored graduate education, or startup incubators that support early-stage engineering ventures. My long-term objective is to establish an engineering company focused on sustainable product development. Initial funding will come from personal savings, engineering consulting, grants, competitions, and potential investors. I understand that entrepreneurship carries uncertainty, so my plan includes gaining industry experience before launching a company, validating products through prototypes and customer feedback, and scaling gradually instead of expanding too quickly. This scholarship is an essential part of that plan because it reduces financial barriers and allows me to devote more time to research, internships, and technical development. Ultimately, my goal is not only to build successful technologies but also to create opportunities for others, proving that thoughtful planning, persistence, and education can transform ambitious ideas into lasting impact.

The Mad Genius The first time I realized I might think like an engineer, my project refused to cooperate. The servo motor spun. The ultrasonic sensor detected movement. The Arduino uploaded the code without errors. Everything worked, except the one thing I actually wanted it to do. I stared at the tiny spoiler sitting on my desk. Instead of lifting smoothly when an object approached, it twisted sideways like it had developed a personality of its own. I remember laughing. Then I remember refusing to quit. Most people think a "mad genius" is someone who suddenly shouts "Eureka!" and invents something revolutionary overnight. I think they're wrong. A mad genius is someone who willingly spends four hours solving a problem that nobody else notices. Someone who takes apart something that already works because they believe it can work better. Someone who gets excited when something breaks because every failure contains information. That day, my room slowly became an engineering laboratory. Popsicle sticks covered the table. Foam board scraps littered the floor. Paper clips became mechanical linkages. Tape held together ideas that hadn't yet earned screws. Every failed design led to another sketch. I wasn't building a school project anymore. I was chasing a question. How do you convert rotational motion into linear motion using only the materials you have? The answer didn't appear in a textbook. It appeared after dozens of tiny experiments, terrible designs, accidental discoveries, and moments where I thought, "This shouldn't work..." until it did. That's when I realized something about innovation. Genius is rarely a lightning strike. More often, it looks like controlled obsession. It looks like staring at the same problem from twenty different angles until one finally makes sense. It looks irrational to everyone else because they only see the final result. They don't see the countless failures that made it possible. That mindset follows me everywhere now. When I learned about atmospheric water harvesting, I didn't simply think, "That's interesting." I wondered how mechanical systems inspired by nature could collect water more efficiently. When I drive behind a car, I wonder how airflow changes around it. When I open a machine, I don't ask, "How was this built?" I ask, "How could it be better?" That curiosity has become the foundation of my life. Growing up in Nigeria taught me that many problems people face every day are accepted simply because no one has solved them yet. Studying Mechanical Engineering has convinced me they are engineering challenges waiting for someone stubborn enough to refuse "good enough." One day, I hope to build a company that develops sustainable technologies solving problems like water scarcity, energy efficiency, and intelligent transportation. But even then, I doubt people will call me a genius. They'll probably see a finished product. What they won't see are the notebooks full of crossed-out ideas, the prototypes that failed, the late nights, the code that didn't compile, the designs that collapsed, or the engineer who kept asking, "What if I try one more time?" To me, that is what a mad genius looks like. Not someone born different. Someone curious enough to become different.

When I think about my future, I do not simply picture a job title or a paycheck. I picture solving problems that matter. As a Mechanical Engineering student and international student from Nigeria, my goal is to become an engineer who transforms innovative ideas into technologies that improve people's lives. I hope to build a company focused on sustainable engineering solutions, particularly in areas such as clean water access, intelligent mechanical systems, and energy efficient design. I want my work to demonstrate that engineering is not just about machines, it is about improving communities and expanding opportunities for future generations. My passion for engineering extends beyond the classroom. I enjoy designing, building, and testing projects because they teach me how to turn ideas into reality. Through independent projects, I have explored concepts such as an active aerodynamic spoiler controlled with Arduino and researched biomimetic atmospheric water harvesting. These experiences have strengthened my problem-solving skills and shown me that meaningful innovation requires patience, creativity, and persistence. My long-term plan is to gain industry experience after graduation, pursue advanced studies, and eventually launch an engineering company that develops products capable of addressing real-world challenges while creating jobs and mentoring future engineers. Being an international student has made this dream both exciting and challenging. My family has made tremendous sacrifices so I could study in the United States, and I never take those sacrifices for granted. Every semester represents not only an academic milestone but also the result of years of hard work and faith from the people who believe in me. Because international students have limited access to financial aid, scholarships make a meaningful difference. Receiving this scholarship would reduce financial pressure, allowing me to focus more fully on research, internships, engineering projects, and professional development instead of constantly worrying about educational expenses. One of my greatest goals is to use my education to create opportunities for others. I want to mentor young women, first-generation students, and international students who may question whether they belong in engineering. I also hope to build internship programs through my future company so that talented students can gain practical experience regardless of their background. I know how valuable encouragement can be because my own journey has been shaped by the support of my family, grandparents, teachers, and mentors. This scholarship would be more than financial assistance, it would be an investment in my ability to turn ambition into action. It would help me continue building the knowledge, technical skills, and leadership experience necessary to achieve my goals. More importantly, it would help me create a future where innovation improves lives, education opens doors, and success is measured not only by personal achievement but also by the opportunities I create for others. That is the future I am committed to building.

When I was young, my family experienced a traumatic home robbery that changed our lives. Overnight, our sense of security disappeared, and my parents had to focus on rebuilding our lives and finding a stable place for us to live. During that difficult period, I moved in with my grandparents. What began as a temporary solution became the foundation of my childhood. While my parents worked tirelessly to rebuild our family's stability, my grandparents became the people who raised me, guided me, and shaped the person I am today. My grandparents did much more than provide me with a place to live they gave me a childhood filled with love, structure, and purpose. Some of my favorite memories are the simplest ones. In the evenings, we would roast fresh corn and sit together on the balcony while my grandfather shared stories about life, perseverance, and the importance of character. Those quiet moments became lessons that no classroom could teach. My grandfather believed education was the greatest investment anyone could make. To encourage us, he created friendly competitions among my siblings and me. After every grading period, he rewarded us based on our academic performance, with the highest grades earning the biggest prize. It was never about the money. It was his way of showing us that hard work deserved recognition and that excellence was something to pursue, not fear. He taught us to celebrate one another's success while always striving to improve ourselves. My grandmother showed her love through sacrifice. Every morning, she woke before sunrise to prepare us for school. She bathed each of us, made sure we were dressed, fed, and ready on time, never complaining about how much work it took. Looking back, I realize those mornings were acts of quiet devotion. She taught me that love is often demonstrated through consistency, responsibility, and putting the needs of others before your own. Together, my grandparents instilled in me discipline, humility, resilience, and an unwavering respect for education. Even when resources were limited, they reminded me that my circumstances did not define my future. Those values continue to shape every decision I make as a Mechanical Engineering student. I approach difficult coursework and engineering projects with the same determination they encouraged in me as a child. Their influence also shaped my future goals. I want to become an engineer who develops technologies that solve meaningful problems and eventually build a company that transforms research into products that improve lives. Just as my grandparents invested their time, patience, and belief in me, I hope to invest in others by mentoring young engineers, creating internships, and opening doors for students who need encouragement. Looking back, I no longer see the challenges my family faced as obstacles alone. They became the experiences that shaped my character and strengthened my ambition. My grandparents gave me far more than a home, they gave me values that continue to guide my life. Every step I take toward my future is also a reflection of everything they invested in mine, and I hope to honor their sacrifices by using my education to create opportunities and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

When people ask me what I want to do after graduation, they often expect a simple answer, become an engineer. While that is true, it is only the beginning of my vision. I want to create technologies that solve problems people have accepted for far too long and build a company capable of bringing those ideas into the real world. Growing up in Nigeria taught me that innovation is not a luxury , it is often a necessity. Many communities face challenges that are invisible to much of the world, from inconsistent infrastructure to limited access to essential resources. When I moved to the United States as an international student, I entered classrooms filled with technology, laboratories, and opportunities I had only imagined. Rather than seeing that difference with frustration, I saw it as a responsibility. If I have access to knowledge that can improve lives, then I have a responsibility to use it. Engineering gives me something no other field can: the ability to transform imagination into reality. Every sketch can become a prototype. Every prototype can become a product. Every product has the potential to improve someone's life. I have already begun that journey. Outside my coursework, I spend my time building engineering projects because I believe innovation is learned through practice. I have designed an active aerodynamic spoiler prototype using Arduino and sensors to understand how intelligent mechanical systems respond to changing conditions. I have researched biomimetic atmospheric water harvesting because I am fascinated by the possibility of collecting clean water from the air using nature-inspired engineering. Each project teaches me more than technical skills it teaches me how to think critically, test ideas, accept failure, and improve designs until they work. Ten years from now, I envision leading an engineering company that develops sustainable technologies addressing challenges such as water accessibility, energy efficiency, and intelligent transportation systems. I do not want innovation to remain inside research papers or laboratories. I want it to become affordable products that improve everyday life. As an international student, I know what it feels like to enter a room believing everyone else already understands the system. I have experienced the uncertainty of navigating higher education far from home while balancing financial responsibilities and adapting to a different culture. Those experiences have made me determined to create opportunities for others. As I grow, I want young women to see leadership positions in engineering occupied by people who look like them. The people who inspire me most are my parents. Their sacrifices made it possible for me to pursue an education they believed could change not only my future but the future of generations after me. Every tuition payment represented faith in my potential. Every encouragement reminded me that education is a privilege carrying responsibility. Receiving this scholarship would be far more than financial assistance. It would allow me to spend less time worrying about how to continue my education and more time doing what I came here to do: design, build, research, and innovate. It would move me closer to turning ideas into technologies that improve lives. The legacy I hope to leave is not measured by titles or income. It is measured by problems solved, opportunities created, and people inspired. If my work allows a community to access clean water, encourages a young woman to pursue engineering, or gives another international student the confidence to chase an ambitious dream, then I will know my education accomplished exactly what it was meant to do.

My faith has been one of the strongest sources of stability throughout my life. Leaving Nigeria to pursue a Mechanical Engineering degree in the United States meant stepping into an unfamiliar environment filled with new academic expectations, financial pressures, and the challenge of being far from my family. There were moments when the future felt uncertain, but my faith reminded me that difficult seasons are opportunities to grow rather than reasons to give up. Prayer has given me peace during stressful times, and my belief in God's guidance has encouraged me to continue moving forward even when I could not see the entire path ahead. My faith has taught me that perseverance, gratitude, and humility are just as important as intelligence or talent. Faith has also shaped my character. It reminds me to treat people with kindness, to remain honest in my work, and to use my abilities in service of others rather than for personal recognition alone. As an engineering student, I strive to approach every assignment and project with integrity because I believe excellence is a form of stewardship. The opportunities I have received are gifts that carry responsibility, and I want to honor them by working diligently and serving others whenever can. Even during setbacks, my faith helps me focus on what can learn instead of becoming discouraged by temporary failures. As I look toward my career, I believe my faith will continue to guide the decisions I make as an engineer and entrepreneur. My goal is to build technologies that improve lives through sustainable engineering and innovation. As a woman pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, have come to understand that empowerment is not always measured by grand achievements; it is often reflected in the courage to enter spaces where women remain underrepresented and to encourage others to do the same. My impact on women's empowerment begins with the example I strive to set every day. By choosing a challenging STEM field, embracing leadership opportunities, and remaining committed to my goals despite obstacles, I hope to demonstrate that women belong wherever innovation and problem-solving take place. Every classroom, laboratory, and engineering project I complete reinforces the message that talent and determination are not defined by gender. My experiences as an international student have also shaped my understanding of empowerment. Moving from Nigeria to the United States required resilience, adaptability, and confidence in my ability to succeed in a new environment. These experiences have taught me that empowering women means encouraging them to believe in their potential even when they feel like outsiders. I enjoy sharing my experiences with younger students and peers because representation matters. When another young woman sees someone with a similar background pursuing engineering, research, or entrepreneurship, it makes those goals feel more attainable. I hope to continue mentoring women interested in STEM by offering guidance, encouragement, and practical support as they pursue their own ambitions. Looking ahead, I want my career to create opportunities that extend beyond my own success. My long-term goal is to build an engineering company that develops sustainable technologies while creating internships and professional opportunities for aspiring engineers. I want my life to demonstrate that determination, education, and perseverance can overcome barriers that once seemed impossible. Whether I am designing new technologies, mentoring future engineers, or leading my own company, I hope to inspire women to pursue ambitious goals with confidence. Empowerment is not simply about opening doors for myself; it is about making sure those doors remain open for the women who follow. If my journey encourages even one young woman to believe she belongs in engineering, leadership, or entrepreneurship, then I will know I have made a meaningful difference.

When my family made the decision for me to pursue my education in the United States, we knew we were investing in opportunity. What we underestimated was the weight of the sacrifices that opportunity would require. As an international student from Nigeria, the greatest challenge my family has faced has been the financial and emotional burden of supporting an education thousands of miles from home. Every tuition payment, travel expense, and daily living cost has represented not just money, but years of hard work, sacrifice, and faith in my future. Coming to the United States meant leaving behind the familiarity of my home, my extended family, and the support system I had always known. I entered an unfamiliar educational system where I had to learn new academic expectations while adapting to a different culture. At the same time, I carried the responsibility of knowing that my family's investment in me came with high expectations. There were moments when the pressure felt overwhelming, but those moments also became the source of my greatest growth. Watching my family make sacrifices for my education changed the way I approach every opportunity. I no longer view my classes as assignments to complete but as opportunities to honor the trust my family has placed in me. It has taught me discipline, gratitude, and resilience. Rather than allowing challenges to discourage me, I have learned to treat them as problems waiting to be solved, a mindset that naturally led me to pursue Mechanical Engineering. Engineering appeals to me because it combines creativity with purpose. enjoy the process of identifying a problem, designing a solution, testing ideas, and improving them until they work. Throughout college have pursued engineering projects that strengthen both my technical knowledge and my ability to think critically. These experiences have confirmed that I want to build technologies that improve people's lives while eventually creating my own engineering company focused on sustainable innovation. The financial realities of being an international student have also shaped my future goals. They have inspired me to become financially independent, build a successful engineering career, and one day create opportunities for others who face similar barriers. I hope to mentor students from underrepresented backgrounds and demonstrate that where you begin does not determine where you can end up. Looking back, I realize that my family's greatest challenge became my greatest motivation. Their sacrifices remind me that success is never achieved alone. Every accomplishment I earn reflects the support, encouragement, and belief they have invested in me. Those experiences have shaped me into someone who values perseverance over convenience, growth over comfort, and service over personal recognition. As I continue my education, I carry my family's sacrifices with me as a constant source of motivation. My goal is not only to build a successful career but also to create innovations that improve lives and open doors for future generations. The challenges my family faced in helping me pursue my education have become the foundation of my character, my ambition, and my commitment to making that sacrifice worthwhile.

Moving from Nigeria to the United States to pursue higher education transformed my understanding of what it means to be an outsider. As an international student, I entered a system with unfamiliar academic expectations, cultural differences, and financial challenges. Although these obstacles were intimidating, they became the foundation of my resilience and shaped both my educational journey and my long-term goals. One of my greatest hopes was that higher education would give me opportunities that extended beyond the classroom. I wanted to study Mechanical Engineering because I believe engineering has the power to solve real-world problems and improve lives. However, I quickly realized that success required much more than earning good grades. I had to learn how to navigate a new educational system, seek out research opportunities, communicate across cultures, and adapt to an environment very different from the one I had always known. Every challenge strengthened my confidence and taught me to embrace growth instead of fearing uncertainty. One of my biggest concerns has been the financial burden of being an international student. Unlike many domestic students, international students often have limited access to financial aid while paying significantly higher tuition. This reality has required me to be intentional with every opportunity I pursue. Scholarships are not simply awards to me, they are investments that allow me to continue building the future I have envisioned. They provide the freedom to focus on learning, research, and innovation rather than constantly worrying about financial limitations. Being an outsider has also influenced how I define success. My goal is not only to earn a degree but to become an engineer and entrepreneur who transforms ideas into technologies that create lasting impact. Throughout my studies, I have pursued engineering projects that strengthen my technical skills while encouraging creative problem-solving. These experiences have reinforced my desire to develop sustainable technologies and eventually build an engineering company that transforms research into practical solutions for communities around the world. At the same time, my experiences have given me a deep appreciation for representation and mentorship. I know how overwhelming it can feel to enter an unfamiliar environment without knowing exactly where you belong. Because of that, I hope to mentor future international students and aspiring engineers, helping them navigate the challenges I once faced. I want them to see that their background is not a disadvantage but a unique perspective that can inspire innovation and meaningful change. Looking ahead, my experiences as an international student continue to shape every goal I pursue. They have taught me resilience, adaptability, and gratitude, qualities that will guide me throughout my career. Rather than viewing myself as an outsider, I now see myself as someone capable of bridging cultures, solving complex problems, and creating opportunities for others. My journey has shown me that education is not simply about personal success; it is about gaining the knowledge and perspective needed to improve lives. That belief continues to drive my ambition to become an engineer, entrepreneur, and leader who leaves a lasting impact on the world.

Ten years from now, I see myself as more than a mechanical engineer, I see myself as an entrepreneur building technologies that solve real world engineering problems. My goal is to combine technical expertise, research, and business to create products that improve sustainability, transportation, and infrastructure while generating jobs and opportunities for others. My vision is built around the following milestones: Years 1-2: Build Technical Expertise • Graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. • Begin my career at an innovative engineering company such as Tesla, SpaceX, Lockheed Martin, or another organization focused on advanced manufacturing and product development. • Gain hands-on experience in design, testing, prototyping, and manufacturing while learning how successful engineering companies bring ideas to market. Years 3-5: Develop Innovative Products • Earn a Master's degree while continuing to work in industry. • File my first patent for an engineering invention focused on sustainable transportation or energy-efficient mechanical systems. • Build a network of engineers, researchers, and investors. • Launch a small engineering consulting and product development business that helps companies solve design challenges while funding my own research. Years 6-10: Scale an Engineering Company • Transition from consulting to manufacturing proprietary products. • Lead a startup developing intelligent mechanical systems, advanced transportation technologies, or sustainable engineering solutions. • Expand from prototypes into commercial products used by businesses and consumers. • Create internships for engineering students, particularly international and underrepresented students, giving them opportunities to gain practical experience. By the end of ten years, I want my company to be recognized not only for innovation but also for solving meaningful problems. Success, to me, is not measured solely by revenue but by the value created through engineering. The values that drive this vision are curiosity, resilience, and impact. As an international student, I have learned that progress requires persistence. Every challenge whether adapting to a new country, managing financial obstacles, or balancing demanding coursework has strengthened my determination and work ethic. I believe entrepreneurship is one of the most powerful ways engineers can create change. Great inventions do not improve lives unless they are transformed into products that people can access and use. That is why I want to become both an engineer and a business leader. I want to bridge the gap between innovation and implementation. Ultimately, my greatest accomplishment will not simply be founding a successful company. It will be creating technologies that improve everyday life, generating opportunities for future engineers, and proving that determination, education, and innovation can turn ambitious ideas into lasting impact. Ten years from now, I hope to look back knowing I built something that extends far beyond myself a bit company that continues solving problems, inspiring innovation, and improving lives for generations to come.

The American Dream is often described as the belief that anyone, regardless of where they come from, can build a better life through hard work and determination. While I believe there is truth in that idea, my definition has become more personal. To me, the American Dream is not the promise of success, it is the opportunity to pursue it. Growing up in Nigeria, I learned to appreciate education as one of the most powerful tools for changing the trajectory of a person's life. When I came to the United States as an international student, I quickly realized that opportunity alone does not guarantee success. It demands resilience, sacrifice, and the courage to keep moving forward even when the path is uncertain. Being thousands of miles away from my family, adapting to a new culture, and balancing the financial realities of studying abroad, they have challenged me in ways I never anticipated. Yet those experiences have also strengthened my belief that dreams become meaningful only when we are willing to work relentlessly for them. The American Dream, to me, is the freedom to imagine a future that is bigger than your present circumstances. It means having access to an education that encourages curiosity, innovation, and critical thinking. It means living in a society where ideas can become inventions, where determination can become opportunity, and where a person's background does not have to define the limits of their future. As a Mechanical Engineering student, I see this dream reflected in engineering itself. Every breakthrough begins as an idea that someone believed was worth pursuing. Engineers solve problems that improve transportation, develop sustainable technologies, and create systems that make everyday life safer and more efficient. My dream is to become one of those engineers. I hope to contribute to projects that address real-world challenges while continuing my education through graduate school and eventually earning a doctorate. For me, success is not measured solely by the title I hold or the salary I earn, but by the impact my work has on others. However, I also believe the American Dream comes with responsibility. Opportunity is most meaningful when it is shared. As I progress in my career, I hope to mentor students who may feel uncertain about pursuing STEM, particularly international students and young people from underrepresented backgrounds. I want them to know that they belong in classrooms, laboratories, and engineering firms just as much as anyone else. Sometimes all a student needs is someone who believes in their potential before they believe in it themselves. Many people associate the American Dream with financial security or homeownership. While those are worthwhile goals, I believe they are outcomes rather than the dream itself. The true dream is having the freedom to learn, to grow, to contribute, and to build a life based on purpose instead of limitation. It is the chance to fail without giving up, to adapt without losing hope, and to create opportunities that extend beyond yourself. For me, the American Dream is not about arriving at a destination. It is about continually striving to become a better student, engineer, leader, and person. It is about transforming challenges into opportunities and using the knowledge I gain to improve the lives of others. As an international student, I do not see the American Dream as something I have already achieved. I see it as something I earn every day through perseverance, education, and the belief that with opportunity and hard work, I can help build a better future, not only for myself, but for the communities I will serve.

Growing up in Nigeria and pursuing higher education in the United States as an international student has taught me that resilience is not simply enduring hardship, it is using every challenge as motivation to grow. These experiences have shaped my determination to become a mechanical engineer who creates solutions that improve lives. My long-term goal is to earn my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, gain industry experience in designing innovative mechanical systems, and eventually pursue graduate studies and a Ph.D. focused on marine engineering. The values that drive me are curiosity, perseverance, and service. Curiosity inspires me to ask questions and seek creative solutions. Perseverance reminds me that meaningful accomplishments require discipline and resilience, especially when navigating the financial and personal challenges of studying far from home. Service keeps my goals centered on creating technology that benefits people rather than simply advancing my own career. Engineering represents more than a profession to me; it is an opportunity to solve real-world problems and make a lasting impact. Receiving this scholarship would reduce financial barriers and allow me to focus on my education, research, and professional development. More importantly, it would bring me one step closer to using engineering not only to build better technologies but also to create opportunities and inspire future generations to pursue ambitious dreams.

I love math because it challenges me to think critically, solve problems creatively, and see the world from a logical perspective. What fascinates me most about math is that it is both structured and limitless at the same time. There is always a solution to discover, a pattern to understand, or a new way to approach a problem. Math teaches patience, discipline, and persistence because sometimes the answer does not come immediately, and you have to keep working until everything finally makes sense. That process of struggling, learning, and eventually solving a problem is incredibly rewarding to me. Growing up, I became interested in math because I enjoyed understanding how things worked. I liked that math could explain real-world situations and help solve practical problems. Over time, I realized that math is more than just numbers or equations it is a universal language that connects science, engineering, technology, and innovation. One of the reasons I love math is because it pushes me outside my comfort zone. It teaches me resilience and reminds me that mistakes are part of learning. There were times when certain concepts felt difficult or frustrating, but overcoming those challenges gave me confidence in my ability to improve through effort and persistence. Math taught me that intelligence is not only about understanding something immediately, but also about being willing to continue learning even when something feels challenging. Math has also shaped the way approach life. It taught me to remain patient under pressure and to break large problems into smaller, manageable steps. Those lessons extend beyond the classroom and influence how I handle challenges in everyday life. As an international student balancing academics, personal responsibilities, and adapting to a new environment, often rely on the same problem-solving mindset that math encourages. Most importantly, love math because it represents possibility. It is at the center of discovery, innovation, and progress. From engineering and architecture to astronomy and technology, math allows people to create solutions that improve lives and push humanity forward. I hope to continue using my passion for math throughout my education and future career so can contribute to meaningful innovation and inspire others to believe they are capable of succeeding in STEM fields as well.

My field of study is engineering, and am interested in astronomy because it combines innovation, discovery, and problem-solving in ways that push humanity forward. Ever since I was younger, I have been fascinated by how technology and science allow us to understand things that once seemed impossible to reach. Astronomy represents curiosity on the largest scale, it is the study of the unknown, the exploration of space, and the continuous search for answers about our universe. What excites me most is how engineering plays a critical role in making astronomical discoveries possible. Engineering and astronomy are deeply connected because every advancement in space exploration depends on technology, design, and innovation. My interest in astronomy is also connected to my desire to contribute to something larger than myself. Growing up in Rivers State, Nigeria, I learned the importance of resilience, curiosity, and determination. Moving to the United States as an international student further strengthened my passion for STEM and innovation. Adapting to a completely different environment while balancing academic and personal challenges taught me perseverance and independence. Those experiences made me realize how important education and scientific advancement are in creating opportunities and expanding human potential. In ten years, my ideal job would involve working as an engineer in the aerospace or space technology industry, contributing to projects that advance exploration, research, and innovation. I would love to work on technologies related to spacecraft systems, satellite development, or advanced engineering solutions that support astronomical discovery. Beyond technical contributions, I also hope to inspire young women and international students to pursue careers in STEM fields without feeling limited by fear or circumstance. Representation matters, and want my journey to remind others that success is possible regardless of where you come from. I also hope to use my future career to positively impact communities by encouraging greater access to STEM education and opportunities. Many young students, especially girls from underrepresented backgrounds, may not always see themselves reflected in fields like engineering or astronomy. I want to help change that by becoming someone who demonstrates that determination, education, and resilience can open doors to incredible possibilities. Ultimately, astronomy inspires me because it reflects humanity's desire to keep learning, exploring, and growing beyond limitations. Engineering gives me the opportunity to contribute to that progress in meaningful ways. Through hard work, innovation, and continued education, I hope to build a career that allows me to contribute to scientific discovery while also inspiring others to dream bigger about what is possible for their own futures.

Essay on Marcus Aurelius' Meditations. "You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength." - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations The central argument in Marcus Aurelius' statement is that human beings gain true strength not through control over external circumstances, but through mastery of their own minds. In this passage from Meditations, Aurelius presents a philosophy centered on self-discipline, emotional resilience, and rational thought. His claim is not that suffering disappears through optimism or denial. Instead, he argues that while people cannot always control events, they can control the meaning they assign to those events. The distinction between internal control and external uncertainty forms the foundation of Stoic philosophy and explains why Aurelius believes inner discipline creates stability even in difficult circumstances. His words continue to remain relevant because modern society often encourages people to seek peace through external success rather than internal understanding. Marcus Aurelius wrote Meditations during periods of war, political conflict, and personal hardship. As a Roman emperor, he experienced pressure and uncertainty on a scale most individuals could not imagine. Yet despite his authority and status, Aurelius repeatedly emphasized that power over external events is limited. Illness, death, failure, rejection, and uncertainty remain unavoidable parts of human existence regardless of wealth or influence. Because the external world constantly changes, Aurelius believed that depending entirely on circumstances for happiness creates emotional instability. People become anxious because they attempt to control outcomes that ultimately remain unpredictable. Stoicism therefore shifts focus away from controlling the world and toward mastering perception and response. The phrase "You have power over your mind" emphasizes Aurelius' belief that the mind is the foundation of freedom. According to Stoic philosophy, external events influence life temporarily, but they do not ultimately determine character unless individuals allow them to dominate their thinking. Aurelius argues that emotional resilience is developed through discipline and perspective rather than inherited naturally. A person who can remain calm, rational, and morally grounded during adversity possesses a deeper form of strength than someone who merely experiences comfort or success. This idea challenges modern assumptions about power because society frequently associates strength with influence, wealth, or achievement. Aurelius instead defines strength internally through self-control and wisdom. The second half of the passage, "not outside events," reflects Aurelius' understanding of the instability of life. Human beings naturally desire certainty and control, but Aurelius argues that such control is impossible. People cannot guarantee success, prevent suffering, or predict the future completely. Careers fail, relationships change, and unexpected hardship occurs regardless of preparation or intention. Aurelius does not present this reality pessimistically; instead, he sees acceptance of uncertainty as liberating. Once individuals stop demanding complete control over life, they become less emotionally dependent on outcomes. Stoicism therefore teaches acceptance rather than resistance to reality. This philosophy becomes especially meaningful when considering how individuals respond differently to hardship. Two people may experience the same external difficulty yet emerge with completely different perspectives. One person may become bitter, hopeless, or consumed by fear, while another develops resilience, wisdom, and emotional maturity. Aurelius would argue that the difference lies not in the event itself but in interpretation. External circumstances may create pain, but suffering is intensified when individuals view hardship as evidence that life is unfair or meaningless. Stoicism teaches that adversity itself is neutral; what matters is the response chosen afterward. Aurelius philosophy also emphasizes responsibility. Rather than blaming circumstances entirely for emotional suffering, he encourages individuals to examine their own thoughts and reactions carefully. This does not mean external systems or hardships are irrelevant. Poverty, discrimination, illness, and personal loss genuinely affect people's lives. However, Aurelius argues that individuals still possess agency within difficulty. Even when circumstances cannot be changed immediately, people can still choose dignity, patience, discipline, and integrity. This belief is empowering because it suggests that strength remains possible even during limitation. The statement additionally challenges modern society's obsession with external achievement. Today, many individuals define success through grades, wealth, appearance, social media validation, or professional recognition. Because these things depend heavily on outside approval and changing conditions, they often create anxiety and insecurity. Aurelius believed that attaching identity entirely to external success weakens emotional stability because those things can disappear at any moment. Stoicism instead values internal qualities such as wisdom, honesty, courage, and self-discipline. According to Aurelius, a person who governs their own thoughts possesses greater freedom than someone who merely controls external circumstances. Another important aspect of this passage is its discussion of emotional endurance. Aurelius does not deny human emotion or suggest that people should never experience sadness, frustration, or fear. Instead, he argues that emotions should not overpower reason completely. Human beings naturally react emotionally to hardship, but Stoicism teaches individuals to pause, reflect, and respond thoughtfully rather than impulsively. This approach requires self-awareness because it separates events from assumptions. For example, failure may feel permanent in moments of fear even though it often becomes temporary growth later. Aurelius encourages people to challenge destructive thinking rather than accept it immediately as truth. The passage also reflects a deeper philosophical definition of freedom. Modern society frequently associates freedom with unrestricted choice or favorable conditions, but Aurelius defines freedom internally. A person controlled entirely by fear, anger, insecurity, or external approval lacks genuine freedom because their emotions depend completely on circumstance. In contrast, someone who develops discipline and perspective remains mentally stable even during uncertainty. This interpretation explains why some individuals maintain hope and composure despite suffering while others become overwhelmed by comparatively smaller difficulties. Aurelius believed inner stability mattered more than external comfort. In educational settings, Aurelius' philosophy remains particularly relevant. Many students tie their identity entirely to academic performance, competition, or future success. Failure or setbacks therefore feel catastrophic because self-worth becomes dependent on achievement. Aurelius would likely argue that setbacks themselves are not destructive; rather, the interpretation of setbacks determines their emotional impact. A failed exam, rejection, or obstacle can either become evidence of inadequacy or an opportunity for growth. Stoicism encourages perseverance because it prevents temporary difficulties from defining identity permanently. The passage also critiques emotional impulsiveness. In moments of disappointment or anger, people often react immediately without examining whether their interpretation is rational. Aurelius believed impulsive reactions weaken judgment because emotions can distort reality. Criticism may feel devastating when filtered through insecurity, while temporary hardship may appear permanent when filtered through fear. Stoicism teaches individuals to pause before reacting and evaluate thoughts carefully. This practice develops emotional discipline because it allows reason to guide behavior rather than temporary emotion. Another reason this passage remains significant is because it applies universally regardless of culture, time period, or social class. Every human being experiences uncertainty, disappointment, grief, and hardship. Some people struggle financially, while others experience illness, loneliness, discrimination, or personal failure. Aurelius' philosophy offers a framework for enduring these experiences without surrendering entirely to hopelessness. His message is not that life becomes easy through Stoicism, but that people become mentally stronger when they focus energy on what they can actually control. Furthermore, Aurelius' ideas challenge the modern tendency toward constant comparison. Social media and public culture encourage individuals to measure themselves according to external validation and appearance. As a result, many people become emotionally dependent on recognition from others. Aurelius rejects this mindset because it places self-worth entirely in external hands. Stoicism instead encourages individuals to evaluate themselves according to values, integrity, and self-discipline. Peace becomes possible when people stop allowing public opinion to define identity completely. The phrase "Realize this, and you will find strength" serves as the conclusion of Aurelius' argument. Strength, according to Stoicism, does not come from avoiding suffering but from understanding how perception shapes suffering. Once individuals accept that external events remain unpredictable, they become less emotionally controlled by them. This realization creates resilience because energy shifts toward thoughts, actions, and values rather than impossible attempts to control everything externally. Aurelius therefore defines wisdom not as intellectual superiority but as the ability to remain mentally grounded during instability. Personally, this passage remains meaningful because it reflects a reality all people eventually encounter. Human beings cannot completely avoid disappointment, uncertainty, or hardship. However, Aurelius offers a perspective that transforms adversity into an opportunity for growth instead of defeat. His philosophy encourages individuals to stop measuring strength by the absence of pain and instead measure it through perseverance, discipline, and emotional resilience. Ultimately, Marcus Aurelius argues that inner mastery is more powerful than external control. Through Stoic philosophy, he teaches that while individuals cannot fully govern life's circumstances, they retain authority over their own responses, values, and perspectives. This distinction changes the meaning of suffering because it shifts focus from circumstance to interpretation. Aurelius believes peace is not discovered through perfect conditions but through the cultivation of self-control strong enough to endure imperfection. His words continue to resonate because they address a timeless human struggle: the desire to remain stable in an unpredictable world. Rather than promising escape from hardship, Aurelius offers something more realistic and enduring the ability to face hardship with dignity, wisdom, and strength. Moreover, Aurelius' philosophy encourages individuals to separate temporary emotion from permanent truth. Human beings often assume that difficult moments define their entire future, especially during periods of stress or uncertainty. Stoicism challenges this assumption by reminding individuals that emotions change just as circumstances do. A painful experience may feel unbearable in the present yet later become a source of growth and wisdom. Aurelius therefore encourages patience because he understands that perspective often changes over time. The passage also demonstrates the importance of mental discipline in leadership and personal relationships. Individuals who cannot control anger, fear, or insecurity often make impulsive decisions that harm both themselves and others. Aurelius believed wisdom required the ability to remain thoughtful even during emotional pressure. This idea applies not only to rulers or leaders, but also to ordinary individuals navigating everyday life. Self-control creates stability because it prevents temporary emotions from dominating long-term values and behavior. Finally, Aurelius' words remain powerful because they recognize both the difficulty and dignity of being human. Life inevitably includes uncertainty, disappointment, and suffering, yet Stoicism argues that individuals still possess the ability to respond with courage and integrity. Aurelius does not promise perfection or emotional invulnerability. Instead, he encourages people to develop the inner strength necessary to endure hardship without losing themselves completely. His philosophy remains meaningful because it offers realistic hope grounded in discipline, perspective, and resilience.

I want to pursue a career in STEM because I am passionate about problem-solving, innovation, and creating solutions that can improve people's lives. Growing up in Rivers State, Nigeria, saw how access to technology, infrastructure, and education can greatly impact communities and create opportunities for growth. Those experiences inspired me to pursue engineering because I realized STEM fields have the power to solve real-world problems and create meaningful change. I enjoy challenging myself academically and learning how science, mathematics, and technology can be used to build a better future for others. For me, pursuing STEM is not only about personal success or earning a degree. It is about creating opportunities for myself while also becoming someone who can positively impact my community. As an international student, my journey has required resilience, sacrifice, and determination. Adapting to a new environment while balancing academic and financial pressures taught me discipline, perseverance, and the importance of continuing to believe in my goals even during difficult moments. These experiences strengthened my desire to succeed in STEM because I know education can transform lives and open doors that once seemed impossible to reach. One of the biggest ways I hope to uplift my community through my degree is by using my knowledge and skills to contribute to projects that improve quality of life and create opportunities for others. I want to use engineering to help solve problems related to infrastructure, innovation, and development, especially in underserved communities where resources may be limited. I also hope to inspire younger students, especially young women and international students, to pursue careers in STEM without feeling limited by fear, background, or circumstance. My name is Emmanuella Okpara, and am an international student from Rivers State, Nigeria pursuing higher education in the United States. I believe I should be considered for this scholarship because my journey reflects resilience, determination, ambition, and a deep commitment to building a better future through education. Every opportunity have received has come through sacrifice, hard work, and perseverance, and despite the challenges have faced, I continue to remain focused on my goals and personal growth. Leaving my home in Nigeria to pursue an education abroad was one of the most difficult and life-changing decisions I have ever made. While I was excited about the opportunities ahead of me, I quickly realized that adapting to a completely different environment would require strength in ways I had never experienced before. As an international student, I had to adjust to a new culture, a different educational system, and the emotional reality of being far away from my family and support system. There were moments when loneliness, financial stress, and uncertainty became overwhelming. However, those experiences taught me resilience and shaped me into someone stronger, more disciplined, and more determined to succeed. One of the reasons I believe I deserve this scholarship is because I understand the true value of education. To me, education is not simply about earning a degree. It is about creating opportunities, gaining knowledge, and building a future that once felt impossible to reach. Growing up in Rivers State, Nigeria, I understood early that success requires consistency, sacrifice, and the willingness to continue moving forward despite obstacles. Those lessons continue to guide me every day as I pursue my academic goals. Academically, I remain committed to pursuing excellence even while balancing the pressures that come with being an international student. I am currently pursuing an engineering pathway because I have always been passionate about problem-solving, innovation, and creating solutions that positively impact people's lives. Engineering represents more than a career to me; it represents the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society through creativity, knowledge, and critical thinking. I enjoy challenging myself academically because I know that every class, every assignment, and every obstacle I overcome is preparing me for the future I hope to build. Beyond academics, I believe one of my strongest qualities is perseverance. There were moments during my educational journey when financial pressure made continuing school feel uncertain. As an international student, there are many limitations and responsibilities that people often do not see. Balancing tuition concerns, academic expectations, and emotional challenges while trying to adapt to a new environment has not been easy. At times, I questioned whether I was strong enough to continue. However, instead of allowing those struggles to defeat me, I reminded myself why I began this journey. I knew that giving up would mean abandoning the dreams I worked so hard to pursue. Another reason I believe I should be considered for this scholarship is because of the personal growth have achieved through adversity. My experiences forced me to become independent and resourceful at an early stage in my life. I learned how to adapt quickly, manage responsibilities carefully, and continue striving toward my goals even during uncertainty. These experiences strengthened my confidence and taught me that resilience is developed through hardship. Today, I carry those lessons with me in every area of my life. In addition to my academic and personal growth, I hope to use my future career to positively impact others. One of my goals is to inspire students who may feel discouraged by their circumstances to continue believing in themselves and their dreams. Coming from Nigeria and pursuing my education abroad has shown me that success is possible even when the journey is difficult. I want to become someone who not only achieves personal success, but also encourages and uplifts others along the way. I believe representation and encouragement matter, especially for students who may feel limited by financial hardship, fear, or self-doubt. Outside of school, I continue to work on becoming a well-rounded individual by developing leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills through my daily experiences and interactions. Being in a completely different environment has pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me become more adaptable and open-minded. I have learned how to communicate with people from different backgrounds, remain calm under pressure, and continue growing through unfamiliar experiences. These lessons have shaped me into someone who values empathy, persistence, and hard work. Receiving this scholarship would mean more to me than financial support. It would serve as encouragement that my hard work, sacrifices, and determination are recognized and valued. This scholarship would help ease the financial burden of continuing my education and allow me to focus more fully on achieving my academic and professional goals. Most importantly, it would remind me that my dreams remain possible despite the obstacles I have faced. My journey has not been easy, but every challenge has strengthened my determination to succeed. I am committed to continuing my education, growing through adversity, and creating a future filled with purpose and opportunity. I believe I am deserving of this scholarship because I have demonstrated resilience, ambition, and the willingness to persevere even during difficult circumstances. With continued support and opportunity, I am determined to use my education not only to change my own life, but also positively impact the lives of others around me.

For much of my life, survival came before dreaming. Growing up in Rivers State, Nigeria, I learned early that resilience was not optional, lt was necessary. Opportunities were limited, and success often required sacrifice, discipline, and the ability to keep moving forward even when the future felt uncertain. Despite those challenges, I always carried the hope that education could create a different life for me, one where I could grow beyond my circumstances and build something meaningful for myself and my family. One of the most difficult yet transformative experiences in my life was moving abroad to pursue higher education. Leaving my home, family, and everything familiar behind was both exciting and terrifying. I entered a completely different environment where I had to adjust academically, emotionally, and financially all at once. There were moments when I felt isolated and overwhelmed, especially while trying to balance academic expectations with the financial realities of being an international student. At times, it felt like I was constantly trying to survive rather than truly live. During those difficult periods, I had to become resourceful in ways I never expected. I learned how to adapt quickly, manage responsibilities independently, and remain focused on my goals even when I felt emotionally exhausted. There were moments when self-doubt became overwhelming, but I reminded myself why I started this journey in the first place. I understood that every challenge I faced was shaping me into a stronger and more capable person. Instead of allowing hardship to discourage me, I chose to see it as motivation to continue building the future I envisioned for myself. What kept me hopeful was the belief that my struggles had purpose. Pursuing education abroad was never only about earning a degree; it was about creating opportunities that once felt impossible. Studying abroad has shown me that I am capable of more than I once believed. It has taught me independence, resilience, and confidence in my ability to adapt to unfamiliar situations. Most importantly, it has helped me realize that I deserve not only to survive circumstances but also to be above them. I am currently pursuing my education in the United States with plans to continue along an engineering pathway. My goal is to build a career where I can use problem-solving and innovation to create meaningful impact in people's lives. Through studying abroad, I hope to gain not only academic knowledge, but also personal growth, leadership skills, and the ability to contribute to communities both locally and globally. I want to learn from diverse perspectives, challenge myself intellectually, and continue developing into someone who can inspire others facing similar struggles. Studying abroad represents freedom to me, the freedom to dream bigger than fear, limitations, or circumstance. For so long, survival meant focusing only on getting through the next challenge. Now, education is helping me imagine a future shaped by purpose, ambition, and possibility. Although the journey has not been easy, every obstacle I have overcome reminds me that resilience and hope can coexist. I no longer want to simply survive life; I want to create a life that truly feels like my own.

Going to college means far more to me than simply earning a degree. It represents hope, opportunity, sacrifice, and the chance to completely change the direction of my future. As an international student from Rivers State, Nigeria, attending college has been one of the biggest and most life changing steps I have ever taken. Leaving behind my home, family, and everything familiar to pursue an education taught me that growth often requires courage and perseverance. Every challenge I have faced along this journey has reminded me why education is so important to me and why I refuse to give up on my goals. To me, college is a pathway to independence and self-improvement. It is an opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to build a meaningful and successful future. Growing up, I understood that education could open doors that once seemed impossible to reach. It has always represented a chance to create stability, not only for myself but also for my family and future generations. Through college, I am learning how to think critically, solve problems, adapt to challenges, and continue growing as a person. However, my college journey has not been easy. As an international student, I have faced financial pressures, cultural adjustments, and moments of loneliness while trying to balance academics and personal responsibilities. There were times when I felt overwhelmed and questioned whether I was strong enough to continue. Being far away from home made some challenges feel even heavier because I had to learn how to navigate difficult situations independently. Yet, those experiences shaped me into someone stronger, more disciplined, and more resilient than I ever imagined I could be. What I am trying to accomplish through college goes beyond academic success. I want to build a career in engineering where I can use my knowledge and creativity to solve real-world problems and positively impact others. I am passionate about creating solutions, helping communities grow, and proving that determination can overcome difficult circumstances. I want my future career to reflect not only my intelligence and hard work, but also my resilience and compassion for others. I am also trying to accomplish something deeply personal: I want to prove to myself that my dreams are valid no matter where I come from or how difficult the journey becomes. There is pressure that comes with being an international student and trying to create a better future while carrying the expectations of family and personal ambition. Every class I complete and every obstacle I overcome feels like proof that I am capable of more than my fears and doubts sometimes tell me. Most importantly, I hope my journey can inspire others who may feel discouraged by their own circumstances. I want people to see that success is possible even when the path is uncertain or difficult. College is helping me become not only a better student, but also a stronger and more purposeful individual. Although the journey continues to challenge me, it has also taught me resilience, independence, and the importance of believing in myself. For me, attending college is not just about achieving a degree it is about creating a future filled with opportunity, growth, and purpose.

Higher education represents far more to me than earning a degree it represents opportunity, transformation, and the chance to create a better future for myself and others. As an international student from Rivers State, Nigeria, pursuing higher education has already required tremendous sacrifice, resilience, and determination. Engineering is not only a career path for me; it is an opportunity to develop solutions that can positively impact communities and inspire others who come from backgrounds similar to mine. Through higher education, I hope to gain the technical knowledge, leadership skills, and experiences necessary to turn my ambitions into reality. However, my journey toward higher education has not been easy. As an international student, I have faced financial difficulties, cultural adjustments, and moments of self-doubt while trying to adapt to a completely new environment. There were times when balancing academic responsibilities with personal and financial pressures felt overwhelming. Being far from home often made me feel isolated, especially during difficult moments when I questioned whether I was strong enough to continue. Yet, every challenge strengthened my resilience and reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. Higher education has already changed me in many ways. It has taught me independence, discipline, and perseverance. I have learned how to adapt to unfamiliar situations, manage responsibilities, and continue striving toward my goals even during uncertainty. Beyond academics, my experiences have shaped my perspective on empathy and determination. I understand what it feels like to struggle silently while still trying to remain hopeful, and that understanding has made me more compassionate toward others. In the future, I hope to create a positive impact by using my education to inspire and support others who may feel limited by their circumstances. I want to prove that where you come from does not determine how far you can go. Many students, especially international students, face invisible challenges that people rarely see. I hope to one day mentor and encourage young people who feel discouraged by financial hardship, fear, or self-doubt. Sometimes, seeing someone else succeed despite difficulties can inspire others to keep believing in themselves. I also hope to contribute to my community by helping create opportunities for education and growth. Coming from Nigeria, I understand the importance of access to quality education and the difference it can make in someone's life. Education has the power to break cycles of limitation and open doors that once seemed impossible to reach. Through my future career and experiences, I want to use what I have learned to uplift others and contribute to meaningful progress. Ultimately, attending higher education is helping me become not only a better student, but also a stronger and more purposeful individual. Every obstacle I have overcome has shaped my character and strengthened my determination to succeed. I know the journey ahead will continue to require hard work and sacrifice, but I am prepared to keep pushing forward. I believe that with education, resilience, and opportunity, I can create a future that positively impacts both my own life and the lives of others around me.

Growing up, I always felt like I was "different" in ways that were hard to explain. As an international student from Rivers State, Nigeria, moving to a completely different environment forced me to confront parts of myself that I once saw as awkward or out of place. One thing that has always made me stand out is how deeply emotional and sensitive l am. In many environments, especially growing up, being emotional was often seen as weakness. I was the person who overthought situations, cared too deeply, and carried the weight of my responsibilities silently. For a long time, I tried to hide that part of myself because I thought strength meant pretending nothing affected me. When I moved away from home to pursue my education, that sensitivity became even more noticeable. I struggled with homesickness, loneliness, and the pressure of trying to succeed while adapting to a completely new culture. There were moments when I felt awkward because I spoke differently, carried different experiences, and often felt like I had to work twice as hard just to prove that I belonged. Watching others adjust easily sometimes made me question myself and wonder if I was the problem. I felt caught between trying to fit in and trying not to lose who I was. Over time, however, I began to realize that the very thing I once viewed as awkward was actually one of my greatest strengths. My sensitivity made me more compassionate, observant, and resilient. Because I know what it feels like to struggle silently, I naturally try to make others feel seen and understood. Because I overthink, I tend to approach challenges carefully and thoughtfully instead of carelessly rushing through them. And because I feel things deeply, I learned how to persevere through emotional hardship instead of running from it. Another thing that makes me stand out is my determination to continue moving forward despite uncertainty. As an international student, there are many sacrifices people do not see. There are financial struggles, emotional pressure, and moments of isolation that can make you feel invisible. Yet every day, I continue showing up for myself and my goals. I continue pursuing an education because I know it represents something greater than me-it represents opportunity, growth, and the ability to create a better future for myself and my family. I also think being different has taught me independence at an early age. Moving far away from home forced me to grow quickly and adapt to situations without always having immediate support. While that experience was difficult, it shaped me into someone who is resourceful, disciplined, and capable of handling challenges with maturity. I learned how to survive uncomfortable situations without allowing them to stop my progress. Today, I no longer see my "awkward" traits as flaws. I see them as qualities that have shaped my character and perspective. My emotional depth, resilience, and ability to adapt are all parts of who I am. They remind me that standing out is not always about being the loudest or most confident person in the room. Sometimes, it is about quietly continuing to grow through challenges that could have easily broken you. My journey has taught me that the things that once made me feel different are the same things that make me strong.
