Unfortunately, I was not able to play the regular season because my parents' busy work schedules made it difficult to get the required sports physical in time. I was disappointed, but I understood that some circumstances are beyond our control. Even though my baseball journey was short, it had a lasting impact on me. When I first arrived in the U.S., there were concerns about how I would adapt to the new education system. However, I quickly demonstrated my capability, earning numerous awards for my proficiency in reading and writing. I believe what sets me apart is my ability to work effectively in teams, build meaningful relationships, and lead by example. While I am naturally quiet and may take some time to open up, those who know me well—my teachers and coaches—see the dedication and effort I consistently put into everything I do. My family has always stressed the importance of academics, often placing it on the same level as, if not above, sports. Beyond my academic and athletic commitments, I have been involved in organizations like Upward Bound, Boys Mentoring, the Future Engineers Club, and the National Honor Society. Transitioning as an immigrant from Nigeria, I had the opportunity to come to the U.S. at the age of 3. Maryland, in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S., became home to my family of eight. When I first arrived here, it was like a whole different world where technology was accessible and at the touch of your fingertips. screens, gaming consoles, smart phones, tablets, desktop computers at home and at the library, and systems. My father had always warned me not to play games on the laptop and tablet, but I was hooked on the TV when we acquired a TV and then a computer, watching cartoons like Dragon Ball Z Kai and playing games on his laptop. Nevertheless, the 4-year-old me continued to play despite my father's criticism. And as I got older, I discovered additional kinds of technology, mostly video gaming consoles like the Xbox, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo DS. I had to "wake up and smell the coffee" as I became older and more mature. I controlled my grades all through middle school. and, in spite of some professors' resentment toward me for my success, didn't let mistakes or failing marks. It didn't stop me from being acknowledged by my peers and offering assistance to others in the classroom, but losing my grandmother —who passed away on my birthday while still in high school—was what truly shaped who I am. Though I didn't cry, I felt incredibly hollow on the inside. It was evident in the way I practiced basketball every day with my coaches, which had an impact on my skill level and helped me grow up and adopt a more proactive outlook on life. whatever gets me to this point. Taking a courageous and self-assured stance in front of you today, I am ready and willing to put time, effort , energy, blood ,sweat and tears into my endeavor to greatness and strive for excellence, On and off the Court. As One of my goals is to become the best and establish a reputation for myself in the basketball community as well as in the engineering and cybersecurity domains. It didn't stop me from being recognized by other students and lending a helping hand to others in class, but what really made me who I am would be when I lost my grandmother, and she died on my birthday. I didn't shed tears but became really empty inside. It was shown through my daily basketball practices with my coaches and affected my game, as it caused me to mature and be forward with my approach to life. Which brings me to where I am now. I strongly believe that studying information technology at The Amazing Norfolk State University will be great. For one, the school has a great information technology program and the Nesbe Organization, as well as an outstanding basketball program, which I will look forward to and aspire to become a part of. The transition to the U.S. was a significant change for me. Navigating the complex, sometimes hostile identity politics of American life at such a young age when my family emigrated from Nigeria forced me into an unusual spot where I had to address some profound existential questions. Eight members of my family landed in Maryland with big opportunities ahead, but the challenges we would face settling into a new culture and environment were prominent. This big move called on the same resilience and adaptability that were a part of our Nigerian culture. We had barely started on our journey home when the field of education revealed just how successful I could be in every way. Educators initially had concerns about my adjustment to the American schooling system, particularly with language and adapting to a new curriculum. However, my reading and writing proficiency became evident through the academic awards I earned. Throughout middle school, I continued my academic success and took on the role of assisting my classmates with papers and other tasks while my teacher was occupied with other students. In my final year of middle school, the global pandemic occurred and significantly altered the academic environment. Despite this change, my grades were maintained, but my eyes were open to different opportunities that came my way, for example, Upward Bound, and I am glad I took up this opportunity. While doing Upward Bound, I have done food banks and feeding my community ever since I was in elementary school, as well as feeding the poor with my church. Throughout the UB program, I prioritized my academics and remained focused on my goal of entering college to pursue a degree in information technology. I developed a fascination with computers and technology from a young age, sparked by my love for playing online computer games and exploring the functions of the computer. I loved playing online computer games and learning the different functions of the computer. Forensics is my area of interest, especially in computer forensics, where I find joy in solving cases and engaging in security engineering projects. This scholarship is crucial, as it would not only help me achieve my dream of pursuing a cybersecurity degree but also relieve my family of the financial strain related to my college education. The scholarship's coverage of essential expenses like a reliable laptop, tuition, transportation, and fees will directly enhance my academic focus and success in college, allowing me to dedicate more energy to my studies. My ultimate goal is to work for the CIA, where I aim to contribute to protecting private data and preventing online threats, ultimately striving to create a positive impact on the world.
