My major goal for the future is to become a teacher that fosters a kind and loving environment for her students. Ever since I was a little girl, I had my heart set on being a teacher. I want to be there to help support and encourage young students to be their best and become good people. My first step to getting to my goal started junior year of high school when I joined the Teaching Professions program at Millstream. The teachers, Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Gleason, showed me the kind of teacher I want to be, and I am forever grateful for both of them. Now that I am in college, I am taking steps towards achieving my goal every single day by attending class and getting a 4.00 GPA in my first semester. I am also working on campus on top of attending class to be able to afford college, this is my plan for the next four years as long as my class schedule allows it. Any financial assistance I can get would help me so much in being able to focus on my classes and work, rather than being stressed about whether I will have enough money to make my next payment for school. Especially in the 2025-2026 school year because I am predicted to get significantly less financial aid due to my brother no longer being a dependent to my mother despite me paying for college by myself, and even with my brother not being a dependent she still cannot afford to help me even if she wanted to. I have to save every penny I possibly can to make my payments on time already in the 2024-2025 year and am unbelievably stressed about finances for the next year. Overall, I would say I am a very hard-working student trying to balance my finances, classes, and work all at once. Working on campus I do not make a lot of money so any assistance I can get to help be able to pay for my schooling is so deeply appreciated and cherished. Within the last year my dad got diagnosed with Colon Cancer. Along with this diagnosis they did scans and we discovered he had an enlarged Thyroid so severe it needed to be removed before they could do surgery to remove the Colon Cancer. The doctors were surprised he was even able to breathe with how enlarged his Thyroid was, it was very close to completely closing off his airway. While we were worried about the Colon Cancer and waiting to get it removed the doctors informed us that it was a bigger priority to remove the Thyroid because of the risk of not being able to intubate if there were an emergency during the Cancer surgery. After getting his Thyroid removed, he had to wait 3-4 weeks before being able to get the Colon Cancer removed. During this time the doctors did a biopsy on his Thyroid and discovered it was cancerous as well. The teachers I previously mentioned, Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Gleason, were a major support system for me during this time and I am beyond grateful for the love, compassion, and empathy they showed me during that time. It is my goal to foster a loving and happy classroom half as amazing as theirs was. They showed me what it meant not only to be an educator, but a true teacher. A teacher who will do anything to love and support their students in their hard times and I cannot wait to do the same for my future students.

As I begin my journey into education I plan on using the skills learned through my experiences in my classroom. I truly solidified my desire to teach when I began babysitting. In high school, I joined a career tech class called Teaching Professions. This class taught me the basic to building relationships with students and different teaching styles. I understand that there are many different styles of learning, such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Through my experiences in Teaching Professions I got real classroom experiences and got the opportunity to do fun and interactive activities with students. Seeing these activities and strategies in action helped me see the kind of differentiation and assistance some students may need. I also plan on implementing inclusive teaching strategies in my classroom to help promote and accept diversity within my classroom. My goal is to use my classroom as a safe space for any and all students no matter who they are. I intend on helping all of my students feel confident and celebrated while in my class. It is also important to encourage students to engage in projects and issues around the community so they can be well-rounded and understand the world around them. I will heavily emphasize the importance of community involvement, this is to help them understand that there are many people coming from many different walks of life, but ultimately everybody is important and deserves to be treated as such. By helping them be supported and represented they will be excited to learn and understand that they are important. Teaching my students through these tactics will help them form their own opinions while also understanding biases in the world. Representing all my students in my classroom will give them confidence and set them up for success in their future endeavors. I will use educational activities I learned while attending Teaching Professions, as well as relationship building skills I learned in the class and at mentoring. As well as fun and exciting activities I did while babysitting to help make my future classroom fun and enjoyable for the students. My biggest dream is to be an influential and kind teacher and to be somebody my students can come to and trust when they need somebody there for them. I am eager for my journey as an educator to begin and am beyond excited to see what the future holds for me in my career path.

I have always loved the aspect of being able to test the bounds of my abilities. One of my favorite activities to do in Minecraft to push these limits is building different houses. The game offers an endless array of styles, complexities, and aesthetics to experiment with. This ranges from big oak cabins and wooded mansions to little cottages and huts. Each building project presents many different unique challenges and requires a different set of skills. This allows me to express my creativity and bring my imaginative ideas to life while expanding my skills in the game. I enjoy this process, not only because it lets me express my creativity and show my skills, but also lets me see what I can do within the games’ parameters. There’s not always going to be the exact block you want or need to complete so it helps me rest myself and see what in Minecraft I can use as a substitute for what I really want. Whether it’s designing the intricacies of what to put inside the house, or trying to perfectly match the outside of the house to my vision, each project is an opportunity to expand my skill set. Building in Minecraft is often the main thing I do, and I don’t often take the time to do much else because to me it is the one thing that really helps me express myself within the game in such an interesting and unique way.

I am not in the foster care system, I am currently a senior in high school at Findlay, where I am a very hardworking person and believe a lot in giving back to my community. I always strive to be a well-rounded and influential person, my major goal is to have a positive impact on those I meet throughout my life. In my opinion one of the biggest ways to help impact the community is through teaching and volunteering, which is why these are my future plans. To begin with, I have two jobs that I currently work that have helped learn a lot of important life skills. My first job is as a babysitter. This has helped me learn how to work well with children and how to calmly diffuse situations, which is an important skill for me in life because I want to be an elementary teacher. My second job is at Bellacino’s, a pizza shop. I really enjoy this job and it has taught me a lot of great skills as well, such as improving my communication skills and how to work well with others. Building onto my experiences that have given me lots of life skills, I volunteer lots of my time within my community. The most impactful thing I have volunteered for would have to be Children’s Mentoring Connections. I would go to Bigelow Hill every Wednesday and spend an hour with my mentee just getting to know each other and build a strong relationship. This program had a huge impact on me and furthered my dream of being a teacher. I have also volunteered with Clothe-a-Child at Kohl’s helping fill the children’s bags and giving them the clothes they picked out. In addition, I have volunteered at lots of basketball games selling 50/50 tickets for the softball team as well as many kids camp for Findlay softball throughout the past few years. As I begin my journey into education I plan on using the skills learned through these experiences in my classroom. My plans are to attend BGSU for four years to get my Bachelor’s degree and become certified to teach K-3. I plan on achieving this goal by working hard in college and staying focused on my studies. I will use all the skills I have learned through my many life experiences to help me do this. I will use educational activities I learned while attending Teaching Professions, as well as relationship building skills I learned in the class and at mentoring. The person who has influenced me most in life has undoubtedly been my mom. She is somebody I look up to in life and one day I hope I can be half as great as her. She is an insanely hardworking and intelligent woman whom I respect greatly and look up to immensely. She has been an absolute light in my life despite the numerous challenges our family has recently gone through. My mom has been committed to her place of employment for 18 years despite not truly loving her career. She goes to work everyday knowing she will not be doing something she loves just to help provide for her family. This selflessness and care is something I will always admire her for and hope I can achieve that level of selflessness one day. Her willingness to put her dreams and happiness aside to ensure we are provided for makes me appreciate her hard work more than anything in life. Her hardwork and determination has taught me a lot about sacrifice and the importance of family, but I want to ensure I am not stuck in the same situation as her, because I can see the effect it has had on her over the years. My mom supports me endlessly and encourages me to follow my dreams despite her own personal struggles. Even after my dad lost his job and we became a one-income family and were faced with financial difficulties we never had to deal with before, she supported me in anything I wanted. My dad was recently diagnosed with cancer and it has been an extremely challenging time for all of us. Despite the emotional toll this had on her, she stayed strong to help me through the difficult times, ensuring I never felt alone while facing these hardships in my family. My mom’s dedication to showing me the support needed to become a confident and independent woman has been instrumental in making me who I am today. She has believed in me no matter what, even when I fail. She always encourages me to keep trying and has shown me time and time again I am capable of achieving my goals if I keep working. Her support has made me a better person, she has taught me how to be an empathetic and understanding person while still standing up for myself. Her strength and resilience through all of these things has inspired me beyond words and I am immensely grateful to be her daughter.

I am proud to be an American for many different reasons, but the biggest reason is the freedoms and diversity within our country. Our country has provided countless opportunities for many people for a very long time and has become a beacon for democracy for those seeking a better life throughout the world. While I believe America is an amazing country and I am beyond grateful to live here, it is not perfect. One thing I believe needs to be changed is addressing the social injustice and discrimination that many people are faced with everyday. America is a very diverse country with people from lots of different backgrounds, but not everybody is always treated fairly nor do they get the recognition they deserve. There are countless things people could be discriminated against for, but I would like to see that change. When I become a teacher I will strive to make every child feel equal and loved in the classroom. It is important as an educator to recognize biases and help eliminate them within your classroom so that all your students feel heard and respected. It helps show them that they are worthy and empowers them to stand up for themselves in the future to help fight against the discrimination they may face. I plan on implementing inclusive teaching strategies in my classroom to help promote and accept diversity within my classroom. My goal is to use my classroom as a safe space for any and all students no matter who they are. I intend on helping all of my students feel confident and celebrated while in my class. Representing all my students in my classroom will give them confidence and set them up for success in their future endeavors. I am extremely proud of the freedoms and liberties promised by America but I can recognize that there is still work to be done. As I progress into my career as a teacher I am committed to making a difference in America one class at a time by using education, representation, and advocacy to promote community involvement and understanding within my students.
