    Strong Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship
Throughout my life, I have been known to have ambitious goals, some of which I have met, that have made me who I am today. My first goal that I have accomplished was placing in the 2022 Los Angeles Marathon - otherwise known as 26.2 miles of an emotional and physical rollercoaster. Years of training paid off on that warm spring day, where I placed third in the under 18 category. I also ran the marathon for a nonprofit organization that I’ve been a part of for the past 3 years. Volunteering with the World Vision organization has allowed me to contribute in ways I could have never imagined. I help plan 6 kilometer charity runs events throughout Bakersfield, and the funds go towards this program which sends our ambassadors out to Africa in order to build wells in communities for easier access to clean water. World Vision specifically emphasizes the six kilometer distance for their events because it is the average distance a child has to walk to attain water. Other than serving as a high school ambassador for this organization, other leadership roles I currently hold are captain of the Varsity softball team (and cross country for 3 years), involved in ASB Leadership at my high school, and also in my church. Another lofty goal of mine involves athletics because ever since I was a young girl I have always dreamed of playing softball at a big Division 1 College. I have played softball my whole life, and when it was time to get serious, my parents and I chose to join a more competitive organization out of Los Angeles in order for our scouting and recruiting levels to be higher and in a more competitive environment than what we have in our hometown, Bakersfield. After about 2 years of competitive softball with tournament after tournament all year long, it came the season of recruitment time. After a lengthy 5 month process of eligibility, I received a total of 7 collegiate offers to play softball at the next level. After traveling the country visiting these schools, I chose to accept a scholarship to play Division 1 softball at Wager College in Staten Island, New York. It truly took a village to get me where I am now, and I give back to my community in a way that is near and dear to my heart. I was an assistant coach in an amateur softball league for 8 year olds while also giving lessons and hosting local camps to teach kids who are first growing their love for the sport. My other passion includes my faith, as I consider myself heavily involved in our youth ministry at the small church I attend. That all being said, I consider my testimony my driving force in my leadership skills, as I use it to be able to relate to a wide crowd and give myself the confidence and validation to face anything ahead of me. I embody several key leadership qualities, including empathy, vision, and adaptability. My empathetic approach fosters strong connections with others, allowing me to understand and address their needs effectively. I possess a clear vision, setting goals and inspiring others to work towards a common objective with enthusiasm. Adaptability is another strength; I thrive in dynamic environments and am able to adjust strategies and approaches to overcome challenges. These qualities enable me to guide teams with confidence, build cohesive relationships, and drive success through a supportive and flexible leadership style
Fall Favs: A Starbucks Stan Scholarship
The first sip of a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks carries with it a wave of nostalgia, a warm embrace of memories that transport me back to cherished moments with my late grandma. The rich blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin evokes not just the essence of autumn, but also the essence of our weekly coffee dates—a tradition that was more than just a shared ritual; it was a deeply comforting connection and a form of therapy that strengthened our bond. Every fall, as the leaves turned golden and the air grew crisp, the Pumpkin Spice Latte became a symbol of those precious moments we spent together. The distinctive aroma of the latte—spicy and sweet—would envelop us as we sat across from each other in our favorite Starbucks, a cozy corner where time seemed to slow down. The barista’s cheerful “Pumpkin Spice Latte for you” was a signal of our time together, a small but significant part of our week that always left us both feeling uplifted. For me, these coffee dates were a sanctuary. My grandma had a gift for making even the simplest occasions feel extraordinary. As we sipped our lattes, we’d talk about everything and nothing—her stories of the past, my dreams for the future, and the little things that mattered in between. Each conversation was a balm for the soul, a way to navigate life’s ups and downs with grace and humor. The Pumpkin Spice Latte was more than just a beverage; it was a vessel for these heart-to-heart exchanges. The seasonal treat became intertwined with our memories, adding a sensory layer to our conversations that made them even more special. Each taste of the latte now brings with it a flood of warmth and affection, reminding me of those golden afternoons spent in her company. Our weekly Starbucks outings were a cherished ritual, a way for us to carve out time from our busy lives and simply be present with each other. They were moments of shared joy, where we celebrated the little things and offered each other comfort and support. My grandma’s presence was a steadying force in my life, and those lattes symbolized the love and connection that we nurtured through our time together. Even now, as I order a Pumpkin Spice Latte, I feel a poignant mix of joy and sadness. The latte serves as a reminder of those beloved coffee dates, the therapy they provided, and the unbreakable bond we shared. It’s a bittersweet reminder of the love and wisdom my grandma imparted, making each sip a tribute to the special relationship we had and the comfort it brought into my life.
    Nintendo Super Fan Scholarship
The buzz of excitement in the high school ministry youth group room was palpable. The air was thick with a blend of anticipation and camaraderie as friends gathered for what had become an annual highlight: the intense Mario Kart tournament. Amidst the clinking of soda cans and laughter, a sense of nostalgia began to settle over the group, recalling the many tournaments that had brought everyone together over the years. It was more than just a game night; it was a ritual that had woven itself into the fabric of our high school experience. The dim glow of the projector screen cast an electric hue over the room as the familiar theme music of Mario Kart filled the air. Each player took their place, controllers in hand, faces lit up with competitive determination. The smell of pizza and popcorn was a comforting backdrop to the frenzy of colorful characters zooming around digital racetracks. Every race was a thrilling spectacle of chaotic fun—banana peels flying, shells zooming, and friends shouting playful banter as they tried to gain the upper hand. It wasn’t just about winning; it was about the collective joy of the experience, the shared laughter when someone was hit by a red shell, and the camaraderie that emerged through the highs and lows of each race. The tournament had become a cherished tradition, a way to bond and create memories that would last long after we had moved on from high school. It was in those moments, surrounded by friends, that I truly understood the power of these gatherings. Nintendo, with its iconic Mario Kart series, had given us more than just a game; it provided a platform for connection and joy that extended beyond the digital realm. As I look back, I feel immense gratitude for how Nintendo’s games helped forge and strengthen friendships. The tournament nights were more than just fun—they were opportunities for us to connect on a deeper level, to share laughter, competition, and a sense of belonging. They were moments where we found solace in the familiarity of each other’s company and the shared thrill of racing through fantastical worlds. Nintendo’s creations, especially Mario Kart, played an integral role in those formative years. They allowed us to step into a world where the stresses of everyday life were momentarily forgotten, and where connections were made stronger through the simple joy of play. As we reminisce about those intense tournaments and the bonds we built, it’s clear that Nintendo’s contribution to our high school experience was invaluable, providing us with cherished memories that will always bring a smile to our faces.

John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
My story is one truly led by God and mid journey I chose to use my years of trials and ups and downs to bring me closer to the Lord, and this is when my life truly 360’d and brought me here today. After my 15th birthday my family and I made the decision to join a team down south to better my skill and chances of recruitment. Then began the hardest 2 years of my life. My time with this organization came down to the matter of the fact that I was not from any school in the Los Angeles area - that I was the girl from Bakersfield. Weekend after weekend brought devastation as I faced the mental battles that the game of softball brings. Strike out after strike out on top of empty promises made by coaches whom I idolized and let determine my self-worth led me to a not so happy place. My parents would say now that the person on that field they saw weekend after weekend was someone they never knew. I bore these burdens and brought everything upon myself - taking things into my own hands to make change happen in an environment that was weighing me down way outside of athletics. I had a hard sit down with my parents where we acknowledged my state of true rock bottom, and with their support I threw my hands up and gave everything that I was dealing with to God. My church started up a weekly bible study in our high school ministry at the beginning of last summer and this addition to my routine is what I believe completely changed everything. This decision to go to Wagner comes in a far second the best decision I’ve made which was choosing to give my life to the Lord and live for Jesus. I reached the part of my walk where I owed it not to myself but to God who then led me to the right coaches at the right time and gave me the strength and clarity to recognize that “i5” was not where I was supposed to be. I left mid tournament and joined my current team the next day with a first at bat dead center home run. And within 3 months of being with this team, I became a d1 commit. I wouldn’t change any part of what I went through because calculating with Christ adds up to where I am now, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything. This experience left me with many scars as well as lessons - teaching me what I want in a mentor or coach but more importantly how to rely on my faith. My journey through adversity and triumphs have shaped me into a driven person with ambitions of a successful career in the workplace. My passion for athletics is why I am determined to get a degree in nutritional science in hopes of becoming a nutritionist or dietician.

It is important for me to share my testimony because though I am young, I believe that God has worked tremendously in my life and spreading his good word is the least I can do to serve Him. My relationships that I have made within our high school ministry and beyond are ones that I cherish the most, and being involved in the church has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I plan on instilling my passions in the workplace as well.

My time with this organization came down to the matter of the fact that I was not from any school in the San Bernardino, Saugus, Santa Clarita area - that I was the girl from Bakersfield. Weekend after weekend brought devastation as I faced the mental battles that the game of softball brings. Strike out after strike out on top of empty promises made by coaches whom I idolized and let determine my self worth led me to a not so happy place. I had a hard sit down with my parents where we acknowledged my state of true rock bottom, and with their support I threw my hands up and gave everything that I was dealing with to God. The struggles I was facing at the time was due I the immense pressure I put on myself as well as a toxic team environment that broke athletes down rather than uplift and support. I channel my ADHD through athletics, but in the classroom, I have faced a multitude of focus problems which have set me far behind in some classes. This was also due to the dullness of the subject but in my chemistry class my sophomore year I struggled to grasp concepts in the classroom; I worked as hard as I could and tried to teach myself the content, but nothing clicked. I ended up almost failing the course, but due to the usage of the last-minute writing skills, an essay was written and successfully convinced this teacher for a passing grade. In this essay I acknowledged my learning set backs and how in the future I would learn to adapt faster and ask for help in order to not fall behind so much. My story is very special to me and one I take pride in, and the time I'm here I aim to give back the time the softball community has given me throughout my years. I want to help grow the love of the sport and be someone kids remember as they grow up and mature in their own softball journeys - a big reason for this is because of my cousin Jayla and I want more than anything to show her how she can be a leader and do anything she wants to do because I will always be there for her. My family led me to the best part of God and I will always be grateful for them, for they were the contributing factor in my decision to get baptized. After my New York visit to Wagner, I knew that this was going to be the perfect fit. This decision to go to Wagner College in the fall comes in a far second the best decision I’ve made which was choosing to give my life to the Lord and live for Jesus.

The time, memories and traditions we’ve shared taught me everything I want for my own future. My parents never once questioned me on my quest to play college ball and I’m so happy to share this dream has become a reality. They've taught everything I know. Connie Konatsotis Scholarship
My name is Emma Rocha, and in the fall I will attend Wagner College in order to further my education in health sciences. I plan on pursuing my schooling onto my master's and doctorate to further support me in this field, where I have aspirations to use this degree to study nutritional science. My passion for nutrition and physiology originates from my background in long distance running, as I was heavily invested in properly fueling my body for the rigorous marathons I completed during that time of my life. Balancing the chemical makeup of different foods to sufficiently provide enough for my body is something I value to this day and my driving desire to pursue a career revolving around this passion of mine. With this degree, I plan on entering the medical field or hospital setting as a nutritionist or dietician, creating extensive meal plans for a wide variety of patients all across the board. I enjoy doing so already in my life for the handful of people I privately train. This consists of workout plans or exercise recommendations as well as a meal organizer of simple and quick meals protein positive, also entailing foods to avoid. In high school, I was able to participate in the 4 year PLTW Biomedical Sciences program where I was able to learn to navigate around labs and verify my passion for this field of work. This class served as a mini escape for me because of its unique set up; it was as though you were on the job taking on case load by case load varying from study of body systems to PCR procedures and gel electrophoresis. Lately we have been planning weekly bible studies for our high school ministry as well as hosting events like worship nights and promoting it out as much as we can. After traveling the country visiting these schools, I chose to accept an almost full scholarship to play Division 1 softball at Wager College in Staten Island, New York. I am beyond excited to spend my college years there and could not thank my support circle enough. It truly took a village to get me where I am now, and I give back to my community in a way that is near and dear to my heart. I was an assistant coach in an amateur softball league for 8-year-olds while also giving lessons and hosting local camps to teach kids who are first growing their love for the sport. This serves as an income for me as well as allowing me to share my knowledge of the sport I love. Through my years involved in the sport of softball myself, I am able to connect with these athletes on a level that most middle-aged coaches cannot. Surrounding myself in an environment like this has allowed me to find fulfillment in a passion I have had from a very young age.

While I know my faith can carry me far in life, I know it is up to myself to hustle and pay for my education while my parents focus on raising the rest of my siblings, since they are much younger. It is due to their great influence on which I attribute my initial passion for health care. In the fall of 2024, I will attend Wagner College, a prestigious, private institution in New York City where I will pursue not only my education in health science but also further my athletic career as well. I am committed to many things in my life, but as I prepare for my first college semester, I am prioritizing my family's financial needs and doing my part to relieve the burden as much as possible. This scholarship would provide a significant amount of relief to the costly tuition I will embark on post attending Wagner College. Besides the passions previously stated, I have always been a health and athletic driven individual - which after research and maturing I am deciding to channel in a future career in dietetics and nutritional science. Helping others in a potential hospital setting all while utilizing my strengths of meal planning and knowledge of kinesiology is what I see myself accomplishing in my adult years as I aspire to attain my doctorate as well. I currently live in a small town in California called Bakersfield, and this upcoming move to New York will bring an abundance of challenges in itself. I plan on using my time in the big apple to focus on why I am there and honor the sacrifices my family is making (financially) to support me all 4 years. In order to do this, I will use my passions to stay grounded and get the most of my education.

Being in a toxic environment led to an impactful cannon event in my life that got me to where I am today. Two years ago, in the beginning weeks of my sophomore year, my family and I made the decision to move softball teams to a reputable organization in Santa Clarita in hopes to increase my exposure and eventually boost my college recruiting process. Being with this team made me adapt to a higher competitive environment of softball which benefitted my game tremendously. We had quite a few girls join and this created a very obvious shift between the local girls and girls like me who had to travel 2 or more hours place to place. My coach started to treat another girl and I as the “Bakersfield Girls”; this title to them is used in solely a derogatory manner, and this was just the beginning. My playing time, my plate appearances, and everything in between started to be affected not by talent level, but based on the town I came from. I wasn’t a local to Los Angeles, therefore in my Coach’s eyes I obviously didn’t have the capability to compete at a high level. As a student athlete, to see this kind of activity from someone who I let have so much power over me was damaging to my self worth and mental health. Time and time again, it was empty promises made to me throughout this past summer. I would have been more understanding if I was being outplayed on the field, but I simply wasn’t and his bias was something I could do nothing about. Coming to this realization took a lot of dependance on my faith and on my own abilities; it also took having the athletic and worldly maturity to know my limits while still demanding the best from myself. After a rocky start to this 2023 summer season, my family stepped in and brought their concerns to me. It was then where I broke down and admitted I needed out from this team; I let this group of toxic coaches dictate how I valued myself. Letting them have this power over me was what was anchoring me to my athletic rock bottom. To say the proceeding sequence of events were coincidental would be absolutely false. I then managed by the grace of God to switch teams to a very reputable organization based out of Anaheim, and this has to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. Only there was my presence acknowledged, my skill praised, and my soul alive. From the girls, to the coaches, and even the fields, my instant connection was electric. Surrounding myself in this positive and uplifting environment, while still playing and competing at an extremely high level, put truth to the phrase “feel good, play good”. I had an immediate breakout debut and am continuing to thrive at my craft. Softball now has a much deeper meaning and place in my heart. The sport has not only taken me from rock bottom to the very top, but it has brought me through some of the toughest mental and physical trials I will ever face. With the resources, connections, and exposure through my new team, I have been able to earn a multitude of collegiate offers to continue my athletic and academic career. My journey has truly been one for the books. Whether it has served as an escape from reality or the root of my troubles, I will always be in indefinite debt to the sport as a whole.

After traveling the country visiting these schools, I chose to accept an almost full scholarship to play Division 1 softball at Wager College in Staten Island, New York. I am beyond excited and enjoy giving back to my community in a way that is near and dear to my heart. I was an assistant coach in an amature softball league for 8 year olds while also giving lessons and hosting local camps to teach kids who are first growing their love for the sport.
