My decision to pursue a career in nursing stemmed from both personal experiences and a desire to advocate for and care for individuals. When I was growing up, I always knew that I wanted to help people, and I thought I wanted to be a doctor. As I got older, I noticed that it was the nurses who really help in the recovery of a patient and had a stronger patient-caregiver relationship than providers do. I have also seen firsthand how family members were medically treated and how important compassion and empathy can be in their recovery and care. Unfortunately, I have also seen the health care system fail a family member due to not providing the right amount of support. A family member of mine experienced mental illness and was consistently in and out of mental health facilities during my childhood. I realized that the facilities he was in did not have the correct number or type of nurses to fully explain their recovery process. I will help when I am a nurse to prevent others and their families from feeling confused, unsupported, or unheard during vulnerable moments, and to ensure that patients receive the education, advocacy, and empathy they deserve throughout their care. I am drawn to both the nursing roles of a caregiver and an advocate. I find meaning in being present, listening attentively, and helping patients feel heard and supported during difficult times. As a dedicated nursing student, I aim to learn and gain as much experience as possible during my time in school, enabling me to graduate with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe and compassionate care. I am very motivated and eager to expand my knowledge, allowing me to develop my skills and prepare for a career as a nurse. I also currently work as a nursing assistant on weekends and on days off from school to gain as much knowledge as I can and to help afford the upcoming semesters. I currently work part time at a children's hospital as a nursing assistant in New York. Children's voice's are often overlooked and not taken account for when performing cares and coming up with treatment plans. After working at this hospital for the past year, I have realized how important it is to advocate for the child's wants and needs. Making their voice's heard has been one of the most fulfilling jobs I have had the privilege of having and their is no other felid I rather go into.

Receiving this scholarship would play a meaningful role in supporting my educational and professional goals. Nursing school is both academically and financially demanding, and this scholarship would help relieve financial stress, allowing me to focus more fully on my studies, clinical experiences, and skill development. With this support, I would be able to dedicate more time to learning, practicing, and growing as a future nurse rather than worrying about financial barriers for myself and my supporting family. This scholarship would also allow me to fully engage in clinical opportunities that strengthen my skills and confidence in patient care. For example, I would be able to complete unpaid nursing internships that may offer more experience to offer than only working as a paid nursing assistant. Nursing internships pair students with registered nurses and teach them the roles of nurses, rather than just nursing assistant duties. I plan to use the opportunities provided through my education to help shape the future of nursing by promoting compassionate, patient-centered care and advocating for patients and families during vulnerable moments. By combining my personal experiences, dedication to learning, and commitment to empathy, I hope to contribute to a healthcare system that values both clinical excellence and human connection.
