Hi! My name is Emily Thompson and I live in the broader Salt Lake area. I participated on the debate team for two years of high school and did events such as Lincoln Douglus style debate, and impromptu and extemporaneous speaking. This led me to incredible opportunities in understanding different perspectives and opinions of people of diverse cultures, ethnicities, and religious communities. This also led me to understand international issues, conflicts, and potential solutions in politics, healthcare, and agriculture. One of my greatest achievements was winning third place at a state tournament in extemporaneous speaking. I have also enjoyed the fantastic opportunity to be a Debate Student Coach. I have had the pleasure to aid students in their speech and essay writing, research and critical thinking skills, poise, and confidence. I hope to be able to use the skills that I’ve learned to succeed in HOSA debate competitions. I have a great passion for biology and chemistry and as such, I aspire to become a NICU Nurse and eventually, a genetic counselor. I enjoy painting, playing basketball, reading, and cooking. I love making a difference in the community through service activities my church helps to organize. I am currently apart of HOSA (Healthcare Students of America) and SMAD (Students Making a Difference).
