My name is Emily, and I come from Cuba. Since moving to the United States, I’ve had to rebuild my life from the ground up, learning a new language, adjusting to a different culture, and starting college in a place where everything felt unfamiliar. But through all of that, one thing has remained clear: I want to use my life and my career to make a real difference in the world, starting with my community. Right now, I’m a student at Southern Regional Technical College, working toward transferring to a four-year university to study civil engineering. I chose civil engineering because I want to help build the world around me, literally. I want to work on the roads, bridges, and buildings that people depend on every day. For me, engineering isn’t just about design or construction, it’s about safety, access, and improving the quality of life for entire communities. But even before I become an engineer, I believe in giving back. One of the ways I try to support others right now is by helping classmates who struggle with English the same way I did when I first arrived. I know how it feels to sit in a classroom and not understand what’s going on to be smart and capable, but still feel left out because of language. When I see someone going through that, I try to help them feel seen and supported, even if it’s just explaining something in simpler words or sitting with them so they don’t feel alone. Small things matter. Outside of school, I also go to the gym regularly. It’s something that helps me stay healthy, strong, and focused. But it’s also a place where I connect with others, especially women who are just starting out and feel unsure of themselves. I’ve had a few younger girls ask me for tips or encouragement, and I always try to motivate them. I think feeling confident in your body gives you strength in other areas of life, too, and I love being able to inspire that. After I graduate and become a civil engineer, I want to work on projects that serve underdeveloped or low-income communities—places like the one I grew up in. I want to help build things that make people’s lives easier, safer, and more connected. I believe that good infrastructure shouldn’t just be for rich neighborhoods—it should be for everyone. I also want to be a mentor someday, especially for young immigrant women like me who are trying to find their place in the world. If I can show someone that it’s possible to come from another country, start over, and still achieve big things, then I’ll feel like I’ve really succeeded, not just professionally, but personally. Making the world better doesn’t always mean doing huge things. Sometimes it means being kind. Being patient. Reaching out. Listening. Supporting someone who’s going through something you understand. That’s how I try to live now, and how I plan to keep living after college. In short, I want to build a better world in every way I can—through the bridges I design and through the bridges I build between people. That’s my mission, and I’m working toward it every single day.

Essay: Making a Positive Impact Through My Career My name is Emily Reyes Gonzalez, and I am currently a college student working hard to build a better future for myself and my community. I recently moved to the United States from Cuba with a dream of studying civil engineering and making a real difference in the world around me. I have always believed that education is the key to opportunity, and that with hard work and dedication, anyone can create a better life, not only for themselves but also for others. From a young age, I have been passionate about understanding how things are built and how they can be improved. I would spend hours observing construction sites, fascinated by how something so big and strong could be created from the ground up. As I grew older, this curiosity became a true passion for civil engineering. I want to be part of the process that builds safe, sustainable communities for future generations. My goal is to specialize in infrastructure projects that help underserved areas. Many communities, especially in rural and low-income regions, suffer from poor roads, unsafe buildings, and outdated systems that limit their growth and opportunities. I want to use my knowledge and skills to create better environments where people can live, work, and dream safely. I believe that good infrastructure is not just about buildings and bridges — it’s about giving people the foundation they need to thrive. Coming to the United States has not been easy. Leaving my home country and starting over in a place where I am still learning the language has been one of the hardest challenges of my life. However, these struggles have made me stronger, more determined, and more grateful for every opportunity that comes my way. I work hard every day to improve my English, succeed in my classes, and build the future I have always dreamed of. Receiving this scholarship would be a life-changing support for me. It would allow me to focus more on my studies without the heavy worry of financial pressure. It would also be a recognition of the effort and sacrifices I have made, and a reminder that I am not alone in this journey. With your help, I can continue moving forward, achieving my goals, and giving back to the community that welcomed me. I am committed to using my education and career to make a real, lasting impact. I want to be an example for others who come from difficult beginnings, to show them that dreams are possible with hard work, courage, and a willingness to serve others. Through civil engineering, I hope to build not only stronger bridges and roads, but stronger communities and brighter futures. Thank you for considering me for this opportunity. I promise to make the most of it and to always work toward making a positive difference in the world.

My name is Emily Reyes Gonzalez, and I am an immigrant from Cuba. I came to the United States full of dreams, hopes, and determination to build a better future through education. Although starting over in a new country has not been easy, I am committed to doing everything I can to succeed and reach my goals. When I arrived in the U.S., I barely spoke English. It was a huge challenge, and honestly, it still is. But every day, I study hard to improve, and I’ve already made great progress. I am currently attending Southern Regional Technical College and plan to transfer to a four-year university to study Civil Engineering. My dream is to become an engineer not only because I love math and science, but because I want to contribute to building safer and better communities. I want to make a difference. Coming from Cuba, I know what it means to live with limited resources and no guarantees. I was raised to value hard work and education, even when things felt impossible. Here in the U.S., I don’t have family members who can support me financially. I’m trying to build everything from zero. That’s why this scholarship would mean everything to me. It’s not just money—it’s a lifeline, an opportunity to stay in school, to focus on learning instead of just surviving. I want you to know that I don’t take education for granted. I study with all my heart. I don’t give up. Even when I feel tired, even when I’m scared or unsure, I keep going—because I know this is my one shot. I am determined to make my family proud, to honor their sacrifices, and to prove that with enough effort and support, anything is possible. My current circumstances are far from easy. I live in a small town, I don’t have a car, and I depend on public transportation or others’ help just to get to school. I’ve had to learn how to manage my time and responsibilities with very little guidance. Despite all of this, I never use my situation as an excuse. I use it as motivation. Every obstacle I face is a reminder of why I’m doing this: for a better future, not just for me, but for those I love. In the future, I hope to mentor and support other students like me—immigrants, first-generation college students, people who just need someone to believe in them. I want to use my success to help others rise, just like I’m hoping someone will help me now. If I receive this scholarship, I will make the most of it, and one day, I hope to give back and make someone else’s dream possible too. Thank you for considering my application. I truly appreciate the opportunity.

My name is Emily Reyes Gonzalez, and I am currently a student at Southern Regional Technical College. I plan to transfer to Georgia Southern University to study Civil Engineering. I came to the United States a few months ago as an immigrant from Cuba, and I am doing everything I can to build a new life. Right now, I am facing a very difficult personal situation, and I don’t have the financial resources or family support that many others may have. That’s why this scholarship is so important to me — it is not just financial help, it is hope. I believe that education has the power to reduce intimate partner violence. When people have access to education, they are more likely to understand their rights, recognize abusive behaviors, and seek support when needed. Education helps build self-esteem, independence, and the ability to make informed decisions. It can also help break cycles of violence by teaching young people how to build healthy relationships and how to communicate in respectful, nonviolent ways. As a future civil engineer, I want to use my education not only to create strong buildings and safe roads, but also to be a strong voice in my community. Many immigrants, especially women, feel alone and powerless when going through abusive or controlling relationships. Some don’t speak the language well, and others are afraid to ask for help. I understand that feeling because I’ve been there. But I also know that education can open doors and create new paths. I want to use my own journey to inspire others — to show them that it is possible to overcome hard times and create a better future. My goal is to graduate and become a professional who not only contributes to society through engineering, but also supports young women who need someone to believe in them. I want to help others who are going through what I went through, and give back to the community that welcomed me. I believe that by sharing my experience, working hard, and staying focused on my dreams, I can make a difference — even if it starts small. This scholarship would give me the chance to continue my education without having to worry about how I will afford books, tuition, or transportation. Every dollar would go directly to my future. I study hard, I never give up, and I know what it means to fight for a dream. I may be going through a hard moment now, but I know that with support, I will rise. And when I do, I will make sure to lift others with me. Thank you for considering my application. I hope you see not just a student in need, but someone truly ready to grow, help others, and create something meaningful out of her challenges.

Growing up, I never heard anyone in my family talk about college. Not because they didn’t believe in it, but because they didn’t know how to get there. I come from a humble background, and I am the first in my family to pursue higher education. For us, survival always came before dreams. But I’ve always wanted more — not just for myself, but for my family, for my community, and for every little girl who was told to stay quiet and not take up space. Becoming a civil engineer is not just my career goal. It is my mission. I was born in Cuba and recently moved to the United States. Coming here meant starting over — in a new country, with a new language, and no roadmap. I didn’t know how the education system worked. I didn’t know what FAFSA meant. I didn’t even know how to register for classes. But I knew one thing: I wanted to build something better. I’ve always been fascinated by bridges, buildings, and roads — not just how they’re made, but how they connect people. Civil engineering gave me the answer to the question I’ve asked my whole life: How can I make a difference? Being a first-generation student means everything is harder. There is no one to call at home and ask, “How do I do this?” But it also means everything matters more. I value every class I take because I know the sacrifices behind it. My dream is to transfer to Georgia Southern University and earn my degree in civil engineering. I want to design safer cities, more resilient infrastructure, and greener communities. I want to be the person who makes life easier for others — just like so many people have done for me. But to do this, I need help. Financially, my family is not in a position to support my education. Every dollar I receive in scholarships is a step closer to breaking the cycle we’ve been stuck in for generations. This scholarship would not just support my studies — it would change the course of my life. It would help me focus on my education without the constant stress of how I will afford my next semester. More than that, it would show me that someone out there believes in me. Thank you for considering my application. I promise to make it count.

My name is Emily Reyes Gonzalez, and I’m originally from Cuba. Coming to the United States was one of the biggest changes in my life. I left behind everything I knew—my country, my friends, my childhood home—with one goal in mind: to create a better future for myself and my family. But starting over in a new country hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced challenges that have tested me emotionally, mentally, and physically. One of the hardest battles I’ve faced was with depression and body dysmorphia. For a long time, I struggled with how I saw myself and how I felt inside. I constantly compared myself to others, and no matter how hard I tried, I felt like I was never enough. It affected my confidence, my ability to enjoy life, and even my motivation to dream big. And when I moved to a new country, those feelings didn’t just disappear—in fact, at first, they got worse. I felt alone, lost in a language I didn’t fully understand, and unsure of my place in this new world. But little by little, I started to fight for myself. I began taking small steps to heal. I worked on building healthier habits, learned to be patient with myself, and slowly started to believe in my worth again. The process wasn’t perfect or fast, but I’m proud to say that today, I’m in a much better place. I’m stronger, more focused, and more determined than ever. Now, I’m studying in the United States with a clear goal: to become a civil engineer. I want to use my education to build things that matter—safe homes, strong roads, clean water systems—especially in places where people don’t have access to those basic needs. I’ve seen what it’s like to live without strong infrastructure, and I want to be part of the solution. Through my work, I want to help communities feel safe and supported—because I know how much that can mean when you’re just trying to survive. The obstacles I’ve faced have not broken me. They’ve made me more empathetic, more hardworking, and more grateful for every opportunity I have now. I plan to use my story and my education to inspire others—especially young women and immigrants—who may feel like their dreams are out of reach. If I can do it, they can too. This journey is just beginning, but I’m ready for it. I’ve already overcome so much, and I know that with education, determination, and heart, I can make a real difference in this world.

From Darkness to Purpose There was a time in my life when I didn’t recognize the person in the mirror—not just because of how I looked, but because of how I felt inside. I struggled with depression and body dysmorphia, quietly carrying pain that no one could see. On the outside, I smiled, helped others, and seemed fine. But inside, I constantly battled feelings of worthlessness and self-hate. Every flaw felt huge, every day felt heavy. Overcoming that wasn’t easy. I had to face things I didn’t want to admit, including how hard I was being on myself. Slowly, I started to learn how to be kinder to myself—how to speak to myself the way I would speak to a friend. I began taking better care of my body not because I hated it, but because I wanted to feel stronger, inside and out. That shift changed everything. My experience with mental health shaped my beliefs in a deep way. I no longer see strength as pretending everything’s fine. Real strength is admitting when you’re not okay and doing the work to heal. It taught me the importance of compassion, not just for others, but for myself. I believe now that everyone is fighting something we can’t always see, and that has made me more patient, more open, and more human. It also changed how I see relationships. I used to hide how I felt, afraid people would see me as weak or broken. But I’ve learned that vulnerability creates real connection. The people who stood by me during my darkest times showed me what true support looks like—and now I try to be that kind of person for others. I’ve become more honest, more empathetic, and more confident in setting boundaries and choosing relationships that help me grow. My career goals have also been shaped by this journey. I want to become a civil engineer not just because I love design and building—but because I want to create environments where people feel safe, included, and supported. Mental health has taught me how much our surroundings affect how we feel. I dream of working on projects that make life better for people—safe housing, strong roads, clean parks—things that improve both the body and the mind. This journey through depression and body dysmorphia didn’t break me—it built me. It gave me the tools to be resilient, the heart to care deeply, and the clarity to pursue a life of purpose. I am proud of how far I’ve come, and I carry that strength with me into everything I do.

The Strength Behind the Scenes Caregiving has been a big part of my life, even though I never called it that before. In my family, helping each other is just what we do. When I was still living in Cuba, I helped take care of my grandparents, especially my grandfather, who struggled with health issues. I would help him walk, cook for him, and keep him company so he wouldn’t feel alone. After I moved to the United States, caregiving took on a different shape. My father, who brought me here, works long hours and doesn’t speak much English. I help him understand paperwork, translate at appointments, and manage things like phone calls or bills that would otherwise be overwhelming. It’s not always easy, especially while learning English myself and trying to adjust to a completely new life. But caregiving has made me more mature, more responsible, and more aware of how much others depend on me. It’s taught me patience and empathy. It’s also helped me grow stronger. I don’t just care for others physically—I support them emotionally, too. And in doing that, I’ve learned to support myself. This experience has had a huge impact on my goals. Watching my loved ones struggle with health and basic needs has made me more determined to create a better future—not just for myself, but for them too. It’s one of the main reasons I want to become a civil engineer. I want to design safe, useful spaces—places where people can live with dignity, move around easily, and feel secure. I know what it’s like to live in places where that’s not always possible, and I want to change that. Caregiving also taught me that success doesn’t mean doing it all alone—it means being strong enough to carry others when they can’t carry themselves. That’s the kind of person I want to be, both in my career and in life. This scholarship would mean more than just money—it would be a life-changing support. Right now, my family can’t help me financially, and I’m doing everything I can to pay for college while still being there for my loved ones. Receiving this scholarship would give me the freedom to focus on my education without constantly worrying about how I’ll afford the next semester. It would help me stay on track to transfer to Georgia Southern University and continue pursuing my dream of becoming a civil engineer. Most importantly, it would be a reminder that my hard work—and the care I’ve given to others—has value. I’m not just asking for help. I’m asking for a chance to prove what I can do with it.

Being the first in my family to earn a college degree would be one of the proudest accomplishments of my life. I was born and raised in Cuba, where opportunities were limited and education often felt out of reach. My family always believed in learning, but survival came first. We didn’t have access to the resources people in other countries take for granted. Coming to the United States gave me the chance to dream bigger—but it also meant starting over in every way. This journey is deeply personal. I’m not just going to college for myself; I’m doing it for my parents, who left everything behind so I could have a better life. I’m doing it for my grandparents, who never had the chance to finish school but taught me the value of hard work and honesty. I carry their hopes with me every time I open a book, take a test, or struggle through a tough class in English. Being the first would mean breaking a cycle. It would show my family and future generations that we can do more than survive—we can thrive. It’s also a way of honoring where I come from. I may be in a new country now, but I bring my culture, my resilience, and my determination with me every step of the way. I know this path won’t be easy, especially without financial help. But I am committed. I want to walk across that stage one day with my head high, knowing I turned sacrifice into success. That degree will be a symbol of courage, growth, and endless gratitude. I want to study civil engineering. Since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by how things are built—bridges, roads, buildings, and everything that helps a city function. When I moved to the U.S. from Cuba, that interest turned into a passion. I started noticing how good engineering can make life easier, safer, and better. That’s what I want to be a part of. Civil engineering allows me to use both my mind and my heart. It’s a career that demands problem-solving, creativity, and a deep sense of responsibility. I love that it’s not just about numbers or blueprints—it’s about people. I want to help build communities where families can live safely, where kids can get to school, and where basic needs like clean water and stable roads are met. My goal is to transfer to Georgia Southern University and become the first engineer in my family. I want to create things that last, projects that matter, and a life that I can be proud of. Studying civil engineering isn’t just my plan—it’s my purpose. My biggest long-term goal is to become a civil engineer and use my skills to improve lives, especially in underdeveloped or underserved areas. I want to work on meaningful projects—safe roads, clean water systems, strong housing—things that make daily life better for people who need it most. One day, I even hope to return to places like Cuba and help rebuild communities that lack strong infrastructure. Another goal is to support my family. My parents gave up so much for me to have this chance. I want to give back to them, whether it’s helping financially or just making them proud. I dream of buying them a home, giving them comfort, and letting them know their sacrifices led to something beautiful. Later in life, I’d love to mentor joung immigrants, that just like me are seeking a better future and pursuing a dream.

Why Education Is Important to Me, and the Legacy I Hope to Leave Education is more than just classes or degrees to me—it's my future, my freedom, and my way to build a life with purpose. I didn’t grow up with many opportunities, but I’ve always had big dreams. Coming from Cuba and starting over in a new country has been the hardest challenge of my life, but it has also made me more determined than ever to succeed. Education is my path to becoming someone I can be proud of, and someone who can make a real difference in the world. I want to become a civil engineer. Not just because I love math, science, and building things, but because I want to help build communities—especially those that have been forgotten or left behind. When I see a road or a bridge or a clean water system, I see more than just construction. I see people getting to work, kids going to school safely, families having clean water to drink. I want to be the kind of engineer who puts people first, and I know education is the only way to get there. But more than a career, education gives me the confidence I need. As someone still learning English, every class I take, every new word I understand, feels like a victory. Some days are frustrating, and sometimes I’m scared I won’t be good enough, but I remind myself that I’ve already come so far. I left my home, my family, my culture, and started again from zero. I know how to fight for what I want, and I’ll keep fighting. The legacy I hope to leave is not about being famous or rich. I want to show that someone like me—a Cuban immigrant, a student with limited resources, a young woman with a dream—can still rise, can still build something important. I want my future children to see that their mother didn’t give up, no matter how hard it got. I want other immigrants to feel hope when they hear my story. And I want to give back to the community that gave me the chance to study, by using my skills to make their lives better. If I get the chance to continue my education and reach my goals, I’ll carry that responsibility with pride and gratitude. I’m not just studying for myself—I’m studying for everyone who believes in me and for the people I’ll help in the future. That’s the legacy I want to leave behind.

Choosing to pursue higher education has been one of the most important decisions of my life. As a first-generation student, college is more than just a path to a career; it is a doorway to opportunities that my family has never had. It represents growth, stability, and the ability to create a better future for myself and those I love. My journey has been filled with challenges, but each one has only strengthened my determination to succeed. Coming from a low-income background, I have always understood the value of education. My family has worked tirelessly to provide for me, but financial struggles meant that higher education was never guaranteed. Instead of seeing this as a limitation, I saw it as motivation. I knew that if I wanted to change my circumstances, I had to take charge of my education. I embraced every opportunity to learn and push myself beyond my comfort zone, even when resources were limited. One of the biggest challenges I have faced is navigating the college process on my own. Without family members who have been through it, I had to figure out applications, financial aid, and scholarships by myself. It was overwhelming, but I refused to let fear hold me back. I researched extensively, sought guidance from teachers and mentors, and worked hard to ensure that I was taking the right steps toward college. Every late night spent studying, every moment of uncertainty, and every challenge I overcame made me stronger and more determined. My passion for learning and my commitment to growth have also driven me to prepare for college academically. I have always been a dedicated student, pushing myself to excel despite the difficulties I faced. I sought out advanced courses, engaged in self-study, and worked tirelessly to improve my skills. Additionally, I have worked on strengthening my English, as it was a barrier when I first arrived in the United States. Every effort I have made has been with the goal of ensuring that I am ready to take on the challenges of higher education. Beyond academics, I have also prepared myself emotionally and mentally for college. Being a first-generation student comes with pressure—the pressure to succeed, to make my family proud, and to not waste the opportunities I have been given. However, I have learned to embrace this responsibility not as a burden, but as a privilege. I am proud to be breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations in my family. I have built resilience, adaptability, and a mindset that refuses to give up, no matter how difficult the journey gets. Higher education is my chance to build the future I dream of. I plan to study civil engineering because I want to make a tangible impact on the world by designing infrastructure that improves lives. More than just earning a degree, college will allow me to grow, to connect with others who share my passion, and to use my knowledge to create positive change. Receiving financial support through scholarships would make a significant difference in my ability to achieve this goal. It would allow me to focus on my education without the constant stress of financial limitations. More importantly, it would validate the hard work and perseverance that have brought me this far. I am ready to embrace the challenges of college with determination and purpose. I have prepared myself through resilience, self-motivation, and an unwavering belief in the power of education. Higher education is not just my dream—it is my path to a future filled with possibilities, and I am committed to making the most of it.

The Impact of Being a First-Generation and Low-Income Student on My Educational Journey As a first-generation and low-income student, my educational journey has been filled with challenges, sacrifices, and moments of self-doubt. Coming from Cuba to the United States, I faced the daunting task of adapting to a new language, culture, and educational system. Despite these obstacles, my background has also given me a deep sense of resilience, determination, and gratitude for every opportunity I receive. Growing up, access to resources and educational opportunities was limited. My family has always worked hard to provide for me, but financial constraints meant that I had to navigate many aspects of my education on my own. From translating important documents to figuring out how to apply for college and scholarships, I have had to take on responsibilities that many of my peers did not have to worry about. While this has been overwhelming at times, it has also shaped me into a resourceful and independent learner. My journey has not been easy, but every challenge I have faced has strengthened my desire to succeed. I have learned to embrace perseverance and self-motivation, knowing that education is the key to breaking the cycle of financial struggle. Attending college is not just a personal goal; it is a necessity for me and my family. I want to build a future where I can provide stability and opportunities for those who have supported me along the way. My goal is to become a civil engineer, a career that will allow me to contribute to society in meaningful ways. I am passionate about designing and improving infrastructure to create better living environments for people, especially those in underserved communities. Engineering is not just about building structures; it is about shaping the world around us and ensuring that everyone has access to safe and sustainable spaces. Beyond my career aspirations, attending college represents something much greater. It is a symbol of hope and possibility for people like me—those who come from humble beginnings but refuse to let their circumstances define their future. Earning a degree means proving to myself and to others that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. It means setting an example for other first-generation students who may feel lost or discouraged in their pursuit of education. Receiving financial support through scholarships would make a significant difference in my ability to achieve these dreams. Without it, my journey would be even more challenging, as my family cannot afford the costs of higher education. I am committed to working hard and making the most of every opportunity that comes my way, and I will continue to push forward despite any difficulties I encounter. Attending college is not just about getting a degree—it is about breaking barriers, creating a better future, and using my knowledge to uplift others. I am determined to make a lasting impact, and I am ready to embrace the journey ahead with courage and unwavering dedication.

Building an Empathetic and Understanding Global Community As a young woman who recently immigrated from Cuba to the United States, I have faced many challenges that have shaped me into a resilient and compassionate person. My journey has taught me the importance of empathy, understanding, and perseverance. Through my unique experiences, talents, and skills, I hope to contribute to a more connected and compassionate global community. One of my strongest skills is my ability to adapt and learn quickly. Moving to a new country and immersing myself in a different culture has been difficult, especially with the language barrier. However, I have worked hard to improve my English and embrace new opportunities. This ability to adapt allows me to connect with people from different backgrounds, understand their struggles, and offer support. I know what it feels like to be in a new and unfamiliar place, and I want to use my experiences to help others facing similar challenges. Education is a powerful tool for building bridges between people, and I am determined to use my knowledge to make a difference. I have chosen to study civil engineering because I want to create infrastructure that improves communities and enhances people’s lives. Engineering is not just about constructing buildings and roads; it is about designing spaces that bring people together, promote inclusivity, and provide opportunities for growth. By pursuing this field, I hope to contribute to a world where everyone has access to safe and sustainable environments, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status. Beyond my academic goals, I also strive to foster empathy and understanding through my personal interactions. Having grown up in Cuba, I have seen firsthand how limited resources can shape people’s perspectives and opportunities. Now, in the United States, I understand the privilege of access to education and resources. This contrast has deepened my empathy for those who struggle, and I am committed to using my voice to advocate for equal opportunities. Whether through mentoring students who are learning English, sharing my story with others, or simply offering a kind word to someone in need, I believe that small acts of understanding can create meaningful change. Additionally, my passion for astronomy has taught me to see the world from a broader perspective. When I look at the stars, I am reminded that we are all part of something much larger than ourselves. This realization fuels my desire to contribute to a global community that values kindness and cooperation over division. Just as the universe is vast and interconnected, so are our human experiences. We all share common dreams, fears, and hopes, and I want to use my skills to build bridges rather than walls. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue my education and work toward my dream of becoming a civil engineer. More importantly, it would empower me to keep striving for a world where empathy and understanding are the foundation of every interaction. Through my experiences, determination, and commitment to helping others, I am confident that I can make a meaningful impact on the global community.

Being a first-generation college graduate means more than just earning a degree—it represents a breakthrough for my family and a personal milestone achieved through hard work, perseverance, and the support of those around me. I am the first in my family to navigate the complex world of higher education, and every step of my journey carries the hopes and dreams of my parents, who sacrificed so much for me to have these opportunities. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the struggles my family faced to secure a stable future. This background instilled in me a deep appreciation for education as a pathway out of hardship. Achieving a college degree is not only a personal accomplishment but also a tribute to the sacrifices made by my family. It means that I have turned their dreams into reality, proving that with determination and hard work, we can overcome obstacles that once seemed insurmountable. My extracurricular activities have played a pivotal role in shaping who I am today. In high school and college, I actively engaged in a variety of clubs and organizations that allowed me to grow both academically and personally. For example, I joined the engineering club, where I collaborated with peers on innovative projects and developed problem-solving skills that are essential in my field. The Journey That Led Me to Civil Engineering My name is Emily Reyes Gonzalez, and I am a young woman with a dream. I was born and raised in Cuba, and six months ago, I moved to the United States to pursue a better future. Since I arrived, I have faced many challenges—learning a new language, adapting to a different culture, and figuring out how to achieve my goals. Despite these difficulties, I remain focused on what truly matters to me: becoming a civil engineer. My passion for engineering started when I was a child. In Cuba, I lived in a place where infrastructure was often in poor condition. Roads had cracks, buildings showed signs of decay, and bridges looked unsafe. I always wondered why things were not built to last longer or withstand the elements. That curiosity grew stronger over the years, but I never had the opportunity to explore it deeply. However, everything changed one day when a hurricane hit my hometown. After the storm, many homes were damaged, including my grandparents’. Seeing them struggle with repairs made me feel helpless, but it also gave me a purpose. I realized how important it is to have strong and safe buildings, not just for comfort but for survival. That experience made me want to learn how to design structures that can withstand natural disasters. I want to help communities stay safe and ensure that people, especially families like mine, do not have to suffer due to poor construction. Coming to the United States was a life-changing decision. I knew that here, I would have access to better education and more opportunities, but it also meant leaving behind everything familiar—my home, my friends, and even my beloved dog, Kai, who stayed with my grandparents. Starting over in a new country has not been easy, especially because English is not my first language. I often doubt myself, wondering if I will ever be good enough to succeed in college and in my career. However, I refuse to let fear stop me. Every day, I work hard to improve my English and prepare for my studies. I have enrolled at Southern Regional Technical College as a first step toward transferring to Georgia Southern University, where I plan to major in civil engineering. I am deeply committed to this path because I know that my future depends on it. I need this opportunity so much because education is my only way forward. My family has made sacrifices to support me, and I do not want to let them down. More than that, I want to prove to myself that I can achieve my dreams, no matter how difficult the journey is. If I am given the chance to continue my education, I will not take it for granted. I will dedicate myself fully to learning, growing, and using my knowledge to make a real difference in the world. This is not just a career choice for me—it is my passion, my purpose, and my way of giving back.

I love math because it is the language of the universe. No matter where you are or what you are studying, math is always present, shaping the way we understand the world. It is logical, precise, and beautifully structured, yet it also allows for endless discovery and creativity. One of the things I love most about math is how it provides clear answers. In a world full of uncertainties, math offers certainty. There is always a solution—sometimes it takes time to find, but it is always there, waiting to be uncovered. The process of solving a problem, breaking it down, and finally reaching the correct answer is incredibly satisfying. It feels like solving a puzzle, where every piece fits perfectly into place. Math is also powerful. It is behind everything from engineering and architecture to medicine and space exploration. Without math, we wouldn’t have bridges, skyscrapers, or technology. It allows us to make predictions, build innovations, and push the limits of what is possible. This is why I admire it so much—because it has real-world applications that improve lives. Another reason I love math is that it challenges me. It forces me to think critically and approach problems in different ways. Sometimes, an equation seems impossible to solve, but with patience and persistence, the answer becomes clear. Math teaches discipline, resilience, and the importance of never giving up, lessons that apply to all aspects of life. I need this opportunity so much because I want to continue learning and growing in my understanding of math. I want to use it to make a difference, whether by designing structures, solving real-world problems, or contributing to innovations that can help people. Math is more than just numbers to me—it is a tool that can change the world, and I want to be part of that change.

One technology that truly inspires me is satellite imaging. While satellites have been around for decades, their impact on our world continues to grow in ways that make life better for millions of people. From tracking climate change and natural disasters to helping with agriculture and even connecting remote communities to the internet, satellite technology has transformed the way we understand and interact with our planet. What inspires me the most about satellite imaging is its role in disaster relief. When hurricanes, wildfires, or earthquakes strike, satellites provide real-time images that help emergency responders know where to send aid. This technology has saved countless lives by allowing rescue teams to act quickly and efficiently. Seeing how something as simple as a photo from space can make such a huge difference in people's lives reminds me of the power of technology when used for good. Beyond emergencies, satellites also help fight climate change. They track deforestation, measure rising sea levels, and monitor air pollution. This data is crucial for scientists and policymakers who are working to protect the environment. Without satellites, we wouldn’t have the same level of understanding of how our planet is changing, and we wouldn’t be able to take action as effectively. Another thing I love about this technology is its ability to connect people. In many rural areas where traditional internet infrastructure is impossible to build, satellites provide internet access. This means that students in remote villages can get an education, doctors can communicate with patients in far-off locations, and people can stay connected no matter where they are. It’s incredible to think that something orbiting thousands of miles above Earth can bring people closer together. I need this opportunity so much because I want to be part of the future of technology—one that focuses on making the world a better place. I want to learn, grow, and eventually use my skills to work on projects that have a real impact, just like satellites have. This technology has shown me that even the sky is not the limit when it comes to creating positive change, and I hope to be part of that change one day.

Misophonia has been a constant challenge throughout my academic journey, affecting my ability to concentrate and thrive in learning environments. I have experienced strong emotional and physical reactions to everyday sounds that many of my peers take for granted. For instance, the tapping of a pen or the rustling of papers in a quiet library can trigger anxiety and discomfort that disrupts my focus during study sessions and lectures. This hypersensitivity to sound has led to moments where I felt overwhelmed, isolated, and misunderstood by both classmates and instructors. One of the most challenging aspects in academic settings is trying to keep up with coursework while battling these sensory distractions. I often found myself in situations where I would need to step out of class to calm down or use noise-canceling headphones to block out disruptive noises. These interruptions not only affected my academic performance but also my self-esteem. I started questioning my abilities, feeling that my condition was holding me back from achieving my full potential. However, over time, I realized that my struggles with misophonia could also be a source of strength. I began to see that by sharing my experiences, I could help others who might be going through similar challenges. Motivated by this, I decided to contribute to the misophonia community in any way I could. I reached out to local support groups and online forums where people shared their experiences with misophonia. Through these interactions, I learned that I was not alone, and that my challenges were valid. To support and advocate for others with misophonia, I started a blog where I shared personal stories, coping strategies, and resources for those struggling with the condition. Writing about my experiences allowed me to connect with others and provide a platform where they could also share their journeys. I have also volunteered at awareness events in my community, where I spoke about misophonia and how it affects academic performance and daily life. By participating in these events, I hoped to break the stigma surrounding the condition and encourage institutions to create more accommodating environments for students with sensory sensitivities. Additionally, I have contacted school counselors and disability support services at my university to discuss potential accommodations. This advocacy led to the implementation of quieter study areas and designated zones in the library, which have helped not only me but also other students who might have similar sensitivities. I continue to engage in these discussions, striving to ensure that academic settings become more inclusive and supportive for everyone. Looking forward, I plan to expand my efforts by collaborating with mental health professionals and educators to develop programs and workshops focused on sensory processing disorders. I believe that increasing awareness and understanding can lead to better support systems for students like me. I am committed to using my experiences to promote positive change, both in academic settings and in the broader community. Ultimately, I need this help so much, and I am determined to be a voice for those with misophonia, ensuring that our challenges are acknowledged and addressed in a compassionate and proactive manner.

Leadership is not just about taking charge; it is about inspiring and guiding others to achieve a common goal. One of the moments that truly tested my leadership skills was when I helped a group of classmates in my English class after moving to the United States. Coming from Cuba, I understood how difficult it was to adapt to a new language and education system, and I saw that many of my peers were struggling just like me. Instead of waiting for someone else to take the lead, I decided to step up and support them. The biggest challenge was that I was still learning English myself, yet I had to find a way to help others understand the lessons. Many students were afraid to ask questions or participate because they felt insecure about their language skills. I knew that if we worked together, we could all improve, so I formed a small study group where we could practice speaking, writing, and helping each other with assignments. To make this work, I had to develop strategies to keep everyone engaged. I encouraged open discussions, used visual aids to explain difficult concepts, and created a supportive environment where mistakes were seen as part of the learning process. I also made sure to motivate everyone, reminding them that progress takes time but that every effort counts. The impact of our study group was incredible. Not only did our grades improve, but we also gained confidence in using English in daily life. Seeing my classmates feel more comfortable speaking and participating in class was the biggest reward. It was a moment that showed me the power of leadership—not as a position of authority, but as an opportunity to uplift and empower others. This experience reinforced my belief that leadership is about service, and I plan to apply these skills to my future career as a civil engineer. In engineering, teamwork and problem-solving are essential, and I want to be the kind of leader who listens, supports, and motivates others to find innovative solutions. Whether it is leading a team on a construction project or mentoring young students in STEM, I want to use my leadership skills to create a positive impact. I know that challenges will always be present, but this experience taught me that with patience, determination, and a willingness to help others, any obstacle can be overcome. Leadership is about bringing people together, and that is exactly what I aim to do throughout my academic and professional journey.

Selected Passage (from the Tao Te Ching, Chapter 11): "Thirty spokes share the wheel’s hub; It is the center hole that makes it useful. Shape clay into a vessel; It is the space within that makes it useful. Cut doors and windows for a room; It is the holes which make it useful. Therefore profit comes from what is there; Usefulness from what is not there." Essay: My central thesis is this: the true essence of function and beauty in our world lies not in what is present, but in what is purposefully absent. This passage from the Tao Te Ching challenges our conventional understanding by asserting that emptiness and void are not deficits but indispensable components that create possibility and meaning. The text immediately disrupts our typical perception of value by comparing the physical structure of everyday objects. In the case of the wheel, it is not the solid material of the spokes or the rim that defines its utility—it is the empty hub at its center that enables motion and balance. This inversion of expectations asks us to reconsider what we often overlook: the space that allows the whole to work. Similarly, when clay is molded into a vessel, it is not the clay itself that gives the container its purpose, but the empty space it encloses, which holds nourishment and meaning. This thought-provoking idea shifts our focus from what is tangible to what facilitates function. Furthermore, the passage extends this concept to architecture. A room’s walls are punctuated with doors and windows—intentional gaps that allow light, air, and human interaction. These voids are essential; without them, a room would be nothing more than a solid block, devoid of life and purpose. The text asserts that “usefulness comes from what is not there,” underscoring that absence is an active contributor to the value of an object or space. The underlying message here is a meditation on balance. The writer is not merely describing physical objects but is inviting us to explore a broader philosophical principle: every creation is a blend of presence and absence. This balance is essential for functionality and beauty. It prompts a reevaluation of our instinct to measure worth solely by visible substance. Instead, it calls for an appreciation of the “gaps” or “silences” in our lives, which often foster creativity, growth, and renewal. By highlighting the role of emptiness, the passage encourages a mindset where the unseen is as celebrated as the seen. It challenges us to embrace the idea that what is missing is sometimes the very catalyst for what can be built or experienced. In our modern world—where we often equate fullness with success—this ancient wisdom reminds us that strategic absence can create room for innovation, understanding, and transformation. Furthermore, as we navigate through a world saturated with constant noise and an incessant push for accumulation, this ancient philosophy offers a refreshing perspective. It teaches us that emptiness is not a void to be feared but a canvas waiting for creative input. Embracing this understanding allows us to slow down, appreciate moments of silence, and discover innovative solutions to complex challenges. In doing so, we learn that sometimes less is indeed more, and by consciously creating space in our lives, we open the door to transformative possibilities that enrich our existence. Ultimately, this text speaks to a profound truth: the spaces that seem void are, in reality, the essential arenas where life’s potential is nurtured. Recognizing and valuing these spaces can lead to a richer, more balanced existence, both in our physical environments and within our inner lives. In essence, this ancient wisdom invites us to redefine completeness by valuing the spaces and silences in our lives as sources of strength. Embracing these voids is not an act of surrender but a conscious choice to create room for innovation, growth, and inner peace. In a world that often celebrates accumulation, acknowledging the beauty in absence enables us to cultivate balance and clarity. Let us carry this timeless insight forward, using the power of emptiness to foster deeper connections with ourselves and the world around us, and ultimately, to spark transformative change.

Building a Legacy Through Civil Engineering Legacy is more than just a name left behind; it is the impact we make on the world through our work, our passion, and our dedication. For me, that impact will be through civil engineering. I have always been fascinated by the way cities grow, how bridges connect people, and how well-designed infrastructure can improve lives. My dream is to build a career—and eventually a business—that focuses on creating sustainable, long-lasting structures that not only serve communities today but also stand the test of time for future generations. One day, I hope to establish my own civil engineering firm, one that specializes in innovative and environmentally responsible infrastructure. Too often, rapid urban development comes at the cost of sustainability. I want to change that by designing roads, bridges, and buildings that integrate green technology, reduce environmental impact, and prioritize safety. Infrastructure is the backbone of society, and I want my work to contribute to a world where people can move, work, and live more efficiently and sustainably. But beyond the physical structures, I want my legacy to be about the people I inspire. Civil engineering is a field that still lacks strong female representation, and I want to show that women belong in this industry just as much as men. Through mentorship and leadership, I hope to encourage other young women to pursue careers in engineering and STEM. Shining my light is about more than just my own success—it’s about making a difference in my community. I plan to use my knowledge and skills to contribute to projects that provide essential infrastructure to underserved areas. Whether it’s improving roads, designing flood-resistant structures, or finding solutions for safer and more accessible public spaces, I want my work to reflect my commitment to helping others. To achieve this, I know that education, experience, and perseverance will be key. Civil engineering is a challenging field that requires problem-solving, creativity, and technical expertise. I am committed to learning everything I can, not only in the classroom but also through internships, research, and hands-on projects. I want to work with experienced engineers, gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to eventually lead my own projects and business. Every challenge I face along the way will be an opportunity to grow, pushing me closer to the legacy I hope to build. The beauty of engineering is that it lasts. Decades from now, long after I’ve retired, I hope to see the roads I helped design still guiding travelers, the bridges I built still connecting cities, and the young engineers I mentored leading the next generation. That, to me, is a true legacy—one built with purpose, passion, and an unwavering commitment to creating something that matters.

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by the power and importance of water. Growing up in Cuba, I saw firsthand how important it is to have access to clean water, as well as the challenges that come with managing it. That experience sparked my interest in pursuing a career in civil engineering, with a focus on water resources. Water resources engineering is essential because it directly affects the quality of life for people around the world. From providing clean drinking water to managing flood risks, this field helps safeguard communities, industries, and the environment. Water is a finite resource, and as populations grow and climate change brings new challenges, it becomes increasingly important to develop sustainable solutions to manage water effectively. By pursuing civil engineering with a focus on water resources, I hope to contribute to these solutions and make a lasting impact. This scholarship will help me tremendously in my academic journey. By providing the financial support needed for my studies, it will allow me to focus on gaining the knowledge and skills that are essential for success in this field. Furthermore, the internship opportunity with HDR will give me invaluable hands-on experience, allowing me to apply what I’ve learned in the classroom to real-world projects. The combination of financial support and practical experience will solidify my career and give me the confidence to pursue my goals in water resources. Water resources engineering is more important than ever, especially in today’s rapidly changing world. Climate change has already led to more severe weather events, such as floods and droughts, which put tremendous pressure on water management systems. In many regions, access to clean water is a constant challenge, and infrastructure is often outdated or insufficient. Engineers who specialize in water resources play a critical role in designing and maintaining systems that protect water supplies, ensure proper distribution, and reduce risks of flooding. Without these systems, entire communities would be vulnerable to natural disasters, and agricultural productivity would be at risk. As the global population continues to grow, the demand for water will only increase. Water resources engineering will be central to addressing this issue by developing innovative solutions that balance the needs of humans, agriculture, and the environment. This is why my major is so important in today’s society – it’s about protecting vital resources and ensuring that future generations have the water they need to thrive. In ten years, I believe that water resources engineering will have a significant impact on society, especially in terms of sustainability and technology. Advances in water conservation techniques, desalination, and water treatment will help communities reduce their dependency on natural water sources. Engineers will develop smarter systems that use technology to monitor and control water usage, minimizing waste and ensuring that supplies are distributed efficiently. I believe I am a good candidate for this scholarship because I am passionate about water resources engineering and committed to using my education to solve real-world challenges. I am driven to learn, and I am excited about the possibility of applying my knowledge to improve water management systems. Throughout my life, I have always sought out opportunities to lead and help others, whether in school or in my community. I am eager to bring that same energy and dedication to my studies and future career. This scholarship will provide me with the resources I need to succeed and achieve my long-term goals, and I am ready to take on that responsibility with the ambition to make a positive impact.

As a first step toward obtaining my ultimate goal: earning a degree in Civil Engineering at Georgia Southern University, I have decided to enter the Southern Regional Technical College Interdisciplinary Studies Program. It will help me build a good foundation for the rest of my learning, working on my English skills, and making sure that I take up only transferable credits when I move to complete my degree at a four-year university. This pathway will prepare me well since I moved to the United States and will act as a buffer for the time given to me to adjust to education levels while keeping my eyes on achieving long-term dreams. Using Knowledge to Lend Society Help: As a civil engineer-to-be, I hope to construct stable and efficient infrastructure rewarding his contribution. Through this field, I want to design and improve roads, bridges, and buildings that enhance the quality of life in communities. Mainly, I advocate for creating functional structures while at the same time caring for the environment to ensure that future generations have safe and state-of-the-art developments. I want to inspire other young women and immigrants to pursue careers in STEM by showing them that they can overcome barriers with determination and commitment. Work-and-College Balance Right: now, I am not working yet, but being a student alone is proving a great challenge, especially being new in a country, language, and culture. But I really pay attention to my studies and future career. Working while in school entails exceptional time management and discipline; however, it also provides real-life experience invaluable in the field. My first priority is quality education so that I will become whatever I wanted and positively impact society. Moving to a new country and pursuing higher education has to be most challenging and rewarding. Adjusting to a different school system while improving my English has required lots of patience, resilience, and diligence and great humble determination. Every kind of trouble I faced-language barrier, culture shock, and self-doubt-encouraged me to carry on. It is a journey that taught me hard work and how to step outside my comfort zone. I am very positive these different experiences made me a better student and future engineer, as well as a much more resilient person who can take on any barriers. Learning Lifelong: commitment to education and training is by no means confined to years spent working towards a degree; education is a journey of discovery that will be ever-formative of my ability to make a difference. A field as dynamic as civil engineering demands my capacity to adapt constantly to new technologies and other innovations that might be brought up to the table to improve upon existing forms of infrastructure and sustainability. I will pursue internships, opportunities for research projects, and mentorships to build up my learning and readiness to meet challenges I will face in the field. Through a commitment to continuous learning, therefore, I will be prepared to give back to society with the kind of work which will live on in the legacy of my profession.

Arriving in the United States was an exciting yet intimidating experience. I arrived in a land of opportunity, full of drive and determination, but the new language and customs also posed some serious challenges for me. The first few weeks were quite a nightmare. I had difficulty explaining myself, giving and following directions was a great undertaking, and often I was left to stand alone by the barriers of the language. All these challenges were very intimidating in the beginning; they actually triggered my growth. One of those events remains etched in my memory. It happened a little after I arrived in the country when I landed an important job interview. With my credentials being just enough to convince the hiring committee that I was fit, the limited understanding of the English language really hampered my communication of ideas and expression of my passion for the position. I left that interview feeling defeated—a setback that briefly dislodged my confidence. Instead of feeling disheartened, I resolved to take things up a notch; this meant registering in intensive language classes, participating in local conversation clubs, and volunteering in positions that called for me to interact with native speakers. I grabbed every opportunity to learn, often staying back in class to practice pronouncing words and enlarging my vocabulary. This relentless focus not only improved my language abilities but also gave me a new outlook on the issue of failure; every slip became a stepping stone toward a level of proficiency and self-assurance. The journey, though, was more about confronting my fears and making the necessary life adjustments. Every obstacle presented a chance for me to learn about resilience and venturing out of my comfort zone. It taught me that most of the time, it is the weak moments of a person that make success possible; it is the tenacity in persisting in difficult times that leads one to victory, despite the obstacles, which are as great as they can ever be. With this spirit of determination in mind, I would see mentoring as the crucial next step on my personal and professional growth journey. I am more than willing to join a mentorship program with Inspire11. Insights from a mentor can offer working theories to polish the already existing excellent language and suggest ways to deal with some tricky cultural factors." Besides, surrounded by a mentorship community, people would also assure responsibility, inspiration, and a network of identical-minded people who are also committed to pushing their limits." With that, I feel that I will be able to "turn it up to 11" in all aspects of my life." This will mean converting every challenge into an opportunity for excellence." Getting to the United States and facing my fears helped shape my view of success." An obstacle is never the end; instead, it is a beginning: a chance to learn, grow, and reframe possibilities." I will exuberantly make my foray into my future with the resilience gained from each of the previously mentioned setbacks and a steadfast belief that each challenge surely must lead to a better tomorrow."

What inspires me the most is creating something worthwhile—whether it's designing a bridge, contributing to the development of an infrastructure, or proving to myself that I am able to reach the heights of my goals. In the past, I was a fast learner, but I also have to contend with my doubts. Yet I refuse to be stopped by fear. Every challenge, from mastering English to making sense of the college system in a new country, is like a spur pushing me to become more and more resilient. If I could achieve one thing in my life, it would be to become a successful civil engineer involved in large projects that leave lasting impressions on communities. Additionally, I am desirous of motivating others, such as myself, who also have had to start anew in a foreign country and at times feel lost. I would love it if I reached the level where I feel fully confident in my abilities and feel assured that all of the hard work and sacrifices made over the years were truly worthwhile. The most important thing to me is being proud of myself in the future, being financially stable, and capable of giving back to those who have supported me along the way. 2- What amazes me the most about STEM is its capacity to mold the world with the help of logical thought, innovation, and problem-solving. The way I have always been excited is how things work; and through the medium of STEM, one can understand and better the world around them. My passion for engineering stems from my desire to construct buildings that are not only functional, but also have some impact on daily living for the people. I am particularly excited by the very idea of engineering, particularly civil engineering, of being able to design buildings, bridges, and even infrastructure that will be resilient with time and useful to the community. The very idea of designing constructions which will withstand the test of time for the greater benefit of society, yet will combine creativity and technical knowledge is what thrills me.The major focus is on civil engineering, but I acknowledge that IT is a critical tool that could help all STEM fields. Technology forms the backbone of modern engineering, starting from state-of-the-art design software down to data analysis of construction projects. If I were to work in IT, I believe I could provide value through integrating IT into infrastructure development, for example, in smart cities IT is utilized for the traffic systems, monitoring of environments, and managing resources. Therefore, I could be instrumental in creating safer, more sustainable urban environments through engineering coupled with technology.Together with my technical accomplishments, IT enables me to work for education and equal access. I would like technology to be used for improving people in the developing world access to engineering solutions for improved living standards. Whatever is done in civil engineering or IT remains my aim: using STEM to make a lasting positive difference by solving real-world problems and improving people's lives. 3- I had to face the biggest challenge when moving to the USA from Cuba and starting over. The hardest thing about this move was leaving my family and my country behind and being uprooted, yet the toughest pill to swallow has been getting through the new language, new culture, and new educational system all while working toward the ultimate goal of becoming a civil engineer. When I got here, I really felt lost and insecure, especially with my English. I knew I needed to improve fast to get a good start. Thus, I was committed to studying and practicing every day. I took advanced English classes from YouTube, noted down all of the content, and studied the topics constantly. I made an effort to talk in English, no matter how awkward it might have been. Getting through college applications was another big obstacle to contend with. I needed to translate my documents, figure out how to register for classes, and then ensure that my credits would transfer to Georgia Southern University. It felt like a huge battle to win; there were times when I felt so lost on what to do that I didn't even know how to apply for scholarships or what came next. But I never wanted to give up. My determination and belief that my future depends on hard work pushed me through those hurdles. I reminded myself of my capabilities every time I doubted myself. I have a lot more to go, but what I have faced in this endeavor made me stronger and gave me more confidence in myself.

To overcome this, I have been actively working on my language skills by watching English-language shows like Friends, taking notes, and creating flashcards to expand my vocabulary. I also practice speaking and writing daily to build confidence. Despite my fears, I am committed to mastering English because I know it is essential for my academic and professional success. In addition to my studies, I am currently working to support myself financially and to build a foundation for my future. My job pays minimum wage, but it allows me to gain experience and prepare for bigger opportunities. I am also working to establish a financial history in the U.S. because I want to be able to support my loved ones in the future. One of my personal goals is to be in a stable financial position so that I can help my boyfriend come to the U.S. legally and build a life together. Receiving this scholarship would be a life-changing opportunity for me. It would ease the financial burden of tuition and allow me to focus more on my studies. With this support, I would be able to dedicate more time to excelling academically and preparing for my future career. I am deeply committed to my education and will work tirelessly to achieve my goals. This scholarship will not only help me financially but will also serve as motivation to continue pushing forward, knowing that there are people who believe in my potential. I am determined to make the most of every opportunity that comes my way. My journey has just begun, and I am ready to face every challenge with perseverance and dedication. With hard work, support, and a clear vision for my future, I am confident that I will achieve my dreams and make a meaningful impact in my chosen field.
