With my credentials being just enough to convince the hiring committee that I was fit, the limited understanding of the English language really hampered my communication of ideas and expression of my passion for the position. I left that interview feeling defeated—a setback that briefly dislodged my confidence. Instead of feeling disheartened, I resolved to take things up a notch; this meant registering in intensive language classes, participating in local conversation clubs, and volunteering in positions that called for me to interact with native speakers. I grabbed every opportunity to learn, often staying back in class to practice pronouncing words and enlarging my vocabulary. This relentless focus not only improved my language abilities but also gave me a new outlook on the issue of failure; every slip became a stepping stone toward a level of proficiency and self-assurance.
