Growing up, I had no idea what I wanted to do for a career. Like many students, I explored different possibilities and changed my mind more than once. It wasn’t until recently that I discovered a field I could truly see myself in. While attending an insurance trade show with my dad, I was introduced to the world of risk management and insurance. As I spoke with professionals and learned more about the industry, I realized it was much more than policies and paperwork—it was about helping people protect what matters most to them. That experience sparked an interest that quickly grew into a passion.
Before attending that trade show, insurance was never a career I had seriously considered. However, seeing the relationships that professionals built with their clients and learning how they help people through difficult situations completely changed my perspective. I was drawn to the idea of having a career that combines problem-solving, business knowledge, and serving others. The more I learned about risk management and insurance, the more I realized it was a field where I could make a meaningful impact.
What excites me most about risk management and insurance is the opportunity to help people navigate uncertainty. Life is unpredictable, and unexpected events can create financial and emotional challenges. Insurance provides security and peace of mind during those moments. I want to be someone who helps individuals, families, and businesses make informed decisions and feel confident that they are protected when life doesn’t go according to plan.
I am currently a Business major with a Finance minor at the University of Lynchburg. Through my coursework, I have developed a stronger understanding of financial planning, decision-making, and risk assessment. These experiences have reinforced my interest in the insurance industry and have prepared me to continue learning about the field. My long-term goal is to build a successful career in insurance while also pursuing opportunities in real estate. Both industries are built on trust, strong relationships, and helping clients make important decisions for their future.
Beyond academics, I enjoy connecting with people and building relationships. Whether through sports, work, or everyday interactions, I have learned the value of communication, teamwork, and earning the trust of others. These are qualities that I believe will help me succeed in the insurance industry and allow me to serve clients well throughout my career.
The CL Proferes Scholarship would help me continue pursuing these goals by easing the financial burden of college and allowing me to focus on gaining the education and experience needed to succeed in the industry. It would also provide encouragement as I work toward a career that I am genuinely passionate about.
Finding my passion for risk management and insurance has given me a clear direction for my future. What started as a trip to a trade show with my dad turned into an opportunity that helped shape my career goals. I am excited to continue learning, growing, and preparing for a future where I can make a positive impact in the lives of others. Thank you for your consideration.
